• Interconnection between 2 computers in different networks.

  Hi, What I want is to connect 2 computers (work and personal) primary for using a software KVM (Input Director or Synergy). Transferring files between them would be a plus. The main issue is that the work computer is in a secured enterprise network, and my personal computer is using a 3G+ modem for Internet access. On the work computer I do not have Internet access (only local network). I want to somehow connect them without to mess up either networks. I want my personal computer to not be seen in the work network. Is it possible? Suggestions: - use a simple UTP cable to connect the 2 computers with each other. Can they each be in both 2 networks without issues? - use some kind of usb cable, if exists

  Hello all. I have just inherited a network at my work- 1 primary server and about 65 computers running XP. All machines have Gigabit ethernet cards and all are connected through Gigabit switches and cat. 6 cables. The workstations send large numbers of image files to the server where they are held until they need to go to a printer. And I'm talking Gigs of files. We get a network slowdown when large number of files are coming from the workstations at the same time large numbers are also going the the printers. All machines have to be on the same subnet because of some proprietary software. Is there anything I can do to lessen this logjam? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• TrueCrypt Corrupted Files

  Several months ago, I needed to reorganize my data across multiple external hard drives with my laptops primary hard drive as the go-between. My external hard drives are all encrypted with TrueCrypt. It appears to me that somehow during the transfer of my files between the encrypted external drive an the unencrypted internal drive, the files were transferred "as-is" (in their encrypted state). The files range from very small to very large. It appears that this may have happened during one consecutive transfer session. Has anyone ever experienced this problem, and if so were you able to fix it? Is there a way to recreate the encrypted partition, transfer the files, and then decrypt them to their usable state? Or can the files somehow be decrypted through other means? UPDATE: I am running Windows 7 (x64) HP now, but may have been runninG ENT. then. Toshiba Laptop 650GB HDD / 4GB Mem. Latest version of TC

• 2nd apache server fails to start

  HI, I have determine that my 2nd server which fail to start because of this entry in conf. Once I remove this entry, the server start up as normal. Alias /Reports/ "//abc/filedir/a/" <Directory "//abc/filedir/a/"> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> I have a primary apache server which is also pointing to the folder with the same setting. I will like to know why the 2nd server failed to start, is it because the server one has locked the folder. //abc is my NAS server running on window 2003. Thanks

• Should I store my code/projects on my SSD or my secondary drive?

  I just got a new box. It has an SSD for the primary drive, and a 1TB SATA for the secondary drive. I'm going to run windows and my binaries on the SSD and keep all my downloads/documents/music/etc on the secondary drive. My question is should I also keep my Visual Studio Projects and code on the SSD or keep them on the secondary drive? The faster SSD would presumably be better for compiling and indexed searches, but would it be better to keep it on the 2nd drive for a more parallel disk IO situation?

  For a hard drive that has 4 or 5 partitions, I was able to mount one of them using Ubuntu LiveCD: sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt but is there a way to mount to the other partitions? • Adding a hyperlink in a client report definition file (RDLC)

  This post shows you how to add a hyperlink to your RDLC report. In a previous post, I showed you how to create an RDLC report. We have been given the requirement to the report we created earlier, the Northwind Product report, to add a column that will contain hyperlinks which are unique per row.  The URLs will be RESTful with the ProductID at the end. Clicking on the URL will take them to a website like so: http://localhost/products/3  where 3 is the primary key of the product row clicked on. To start off, open the RDLC and add a new column to the product table.   Add text to the header (Details) and row (Product Website). Right click on the row (not header) and select “TextBox properties” Select Action – Go to URL. You could hard code a URL here but what we need is a URL that changes based on the ProductID.   Click on the expression button (fx) The expression builder gives you access to several functions and constants including the fields in your dataset. See this reference for more details: Common Expressions for ReportViewer Reports. Add the following expression: = "http://localhost/products/" & Fields!ProductID.Value Click OK to exit the Expression Builder. The report will not render because hyperlinks are disabled by default in the ReportViewer control. To enable it, add the following in your page load event (where rvProducts is the ID of your ReportViewerControl): protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) { rvProducts.LocalReport.EnableHyperlinks = true; } } We want our links to open in a new window so set the HyperLinkTarget property of the ReportViewer control to “_blank”   We are done adding hyperlinks to our report. You can create your own buttons and add them to the control. Compatible with the AntiXSS Library When using the HTML Editor Extender on a public facing website, we strongly recommend that you use the HTML Editor Extender with the AntiXSS Library. If you allow users to submit arbitrary HTML, and you don’t take any action to strip out malicious markup, then you are opening your website to Cross-Site Scripting Attacks (XSS attacks). The HTML Editor Extender uses the Provider Model to support different Sanitizer Providers. The July 2011 release of the Ajax Control Toolkit ships with a single Sanitizer Provider which uses the AntiXSS library (see http://AntiXss.CodePlex.com ). A Sanitizer Provider is responsible for sanitizing HTML markup by removing any malicious elements, attributes, and attribute values. For example, the AntiXss Sanitizer Provider will take the following block of HTML: <b><a href=""javascript:doEvil()"">Visit Grandma</a></b> <script>doEvil()</script> And return the following sanitized block of HTML: <b><a href="">Visit Grandma</a></b> Notice that the JavaScript href and <SCRIPT> tag are both stripped out. All three assemblies are included with the CodePlex download of the Ajax Control Toolkit in the SanitizerProviders folder. Because the AntiXSS library requires Full Trust, you cannot use the AntiXSS Sanitizer Provider with most shared website hosting providers. Because most shared hosting providers only support Medium Trust and not Full Trust, we do not recommend using the HTML Editor Extender with a public website hosted with a shared hosting provider. Why a New HTML Editor Control? The Ajax Control Toolkit now includes two HTML Editor controls. Why did we introduce a new HTML Editor control when there was already an existing HTML Editor? We think you will like the new HTML Editor much more than the previous one. We had several goals with the new HTML Editor Extender: Lightweight – We wanted to leverage HTML5 to create a lightweight HTML Editor. The new HTML Editor generates much less markup and script than the previous HTML Editor. Secure – We wanted to make it easy to integrate the AntiXSS library with the HTML Editor. If you are creating a public facing website, we strongly recommend that you use the AntiXSS Provider. Customizable – We wanted to make it easy for users to customize the toolbar buttons displayed by the HTML Editor. Compatibility – We wanted to ensure that the HTML Editor will work with the latest versions of the most popular browsers (including Internet Explorer 6 and higher). The old HTML Editor control is still included in the Ajax Control Toolkit and continues to live in the AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor namespace. We have not modified the control and you can continue to use the control in the same way as you have used it in the past. However, we hope that you will consider migrating to the new HTML Editor Extender for the reasons listed above. Summary We’ve introduced a new Ajax Control Toolkit control with this release. I want to thank the developers and testers on the Superexpert team for the huge amount of work which they put into this control.   LinqPad as we all know has been a wonderful tool for running ad-hoc queries. With Windows Azure Table storage in picture LinqPad was no longer in picture and we shifted focus to Cloud Storage Studio only to realize the limited and strange querying capabilities of CSS. With some tweaking to Linqpad we can get the comfortable old shoe of ad-hoc queries with LinqPad in the Windows Azure Table storage. Steps: 1. Start LinqPad 2. Right Click in the query window and select “Query Properties” 3. In The Additional References add reference to Microsoft.WindowsAzure.StorageClient, System.Data.Services.Client.dll and the assembly containing the implementation of the DataServiceContext class tied to the Windows Azure table storage. 4. In the additional namespace imports import the same three namespaces mentioned above. 5. Then we need to provide following details. a. Table storage account name and shared key. b. DataServiceContext implementing class in your code. c. • Microsoft .NET Web Programming: Web Sites versus Web Applications

  In .NET 2.0, Microsoft introduced the Web Site. This was the default way to create a web Project in Visual Studio 2005. In Visual Studio 2008, the Web Application has been restored as the default web Project in Visual Studio/.NET 3.x The Web Site is a file/folder based Project structure. It is designed such that pages are not compiled until they are requested ("on demand"). The advantages to the Web Site are: 1) It is designed to accommodate non-.NET Applications 2) Deployment is as simple as copying files to the target server 3) Any portion of the Web Site can be updated without requiring recompilation of the entire Site. The Web Application is a .dll-based Project structure. ASP.NET pages and supporting files are compiled into assemblies that are then deployed to the target server. Advantages of the Web Application are: 1) Precompiled files do not expose code to an attacker 2) Precompiled files run faster because they are binary data (the Microsoft Intermediate Language, or MSIL) executed by the CLR (Common Language Runtime) 3) References, assemblies, and other project dependencies are built in to the compiled site and automatically managed. They do not need to be manually deployed and/or registered in the Global Assembly Cache: deployment does this for you If you are planning on using automated build and deployment, such as the Team Foundation Server Team Build engine, you will need to have your code in the form of a Web Application. If you have a Web Site, it will not properly compile as a Web Application would. The Serialize  helper method will serialize the model object and will persist it in a hidden field in the HTML form. The Serialize  helper is very useful when situations like you are making multi-step wizard where a single model class is using for all steps in the wizard. For each step you want to retain the model object's whole state.The below is serializing our model object. OAM Upgrade Steps Overview Pre-Req : You already have a OAM 11g Installed Upgrade Step 1: Configure User Store & Make it Primary Upgrade Step 2: Create Policy Domain , this is dome by UA automatically Upgrade Step 3: Migrate Partners : This is done by running Upgrade Assistant Verify successful Upgrade Details on UA step : To Upgrade the existing OSSO 10g servers to OAM server , this is done by running the UA script in OAM , which copies over all the partner app details from osso to OAM 11g , run_ua.sh is the script name which will ask you to input the Policies.properties from SSO $OH/sso/config folder of osso 10g & other variables like db password . • Service-Oriented Architecture and Web Services

  Service oriented architecture is an architectural model for developing distributed systems across a network or the Internet. The main goal of this model is to create a collection of sub-systems to function as one unified system. This approach allows applications to work within the context of a client server relationship much like a web browser would interact with a web server. In this relationship a client application can request an action to be performed on a server application and are returned to the requesting client. It is important to note that primary implementation of service oriented architecture is through the use of web services. Web services are exposed components of a remote application over a network. Typically web services communicate over the HTTP and HTTPS protocols which are also the standard protocol for accessing web pages on the Internet.  These exposed components are self-contained and are self-describing.  Due to web services independence, they can be called by any application as long as it can be accessed via the network.  Web services allow for a lot of flexibility when connecting two distinct systems because the service works independently from the client. In this case a web services built with Java in a UNIX environment not will have problems handling request from a C# application in a windows environment. • Creating a DNS Server

  OK, I am a complete newbie to all this, so please bear with me. I want to create a DNS Server (like Google does - 8.8.8.8). I understand that a DNS Server is a Server that gives a IP on being given a hostname, ie. when I ask it what is the IP of google.com, it says "64.233.160.0". So, what I want to do is create a similar one that holds records of what translates to what. I thought of this since it looks to be similar to a webserver - ask for a page and it gives back the page. That is, when my machine has the IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and people chose xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx as their Primary DNS Server, then when they ask "www.google.com", I sould be able to tell "64.233.160.0". So, how do I create this DNS Server that is accessible to everyone in the world ? It would be easier if we have something like EasyPHP which is the analogue to a webserver here. For example, you can make the ModalPopup draggable. You also can programmatically hide and show a modal popup from either server-side or client-side code. UploadingBackColor – The color to display in the upload field while a file is being uploaded. ErrorBackColor – The color to display in the upload field when there is an error uploading a file. CompleteBackColor – The color to display in the upload field when the upload is complete. UploaderStyle – The user interface style: Traditional or Modern. PersistFile – When true, the uploaded file is persisted in Session state. The last property PersistFile, causes the uploaded file to be stored in Session state. That way, if completing a form requires multiple postbacks, then the user needs to upload the file only once. For example, if there is a server validation error, then the user is not required to re-upload the file after fixing the validation issue. In the sample code above, this condition is simulated by disabling client-side validation for the RequiredFieldValidator control. The RequiredFieldValidator EnableClientScript property has the value false.   I like to use both StyleCop and CodeIt.Right to validate my code – StyleCop because it’s free and CodeIt.Right because it’s really good. While StyleCop provides only validation, CodeIt.Righ provides both validation and correction of violations. Unfortunately, CodeIt.Right’s supplied template for code file headers does not conform to StyleCop rules. Fortunately, CodeIt.Right allows us to define our own template. • SQL SERVER – GUID vs INT – Your Opinion

  I think the title is clear what I am going to write in your post. This is age old problem and I want to compile the list stating advantages and disadvantages of using GUID and INT as a Primary Key or Clustered Index or Both (the usual case). Let me start a list by suggesting one advantage and one disadvantage in each case. INT Advantage: Numeric values (and specifically integers) are better for performance when used in joins, indexes and conditions. Numeric values are easier to understand for application users if they are displayed. Disadvantage: If your table is large, it is quite possible it will run out of it and after some numeric value there will be no additional identity to use. GUID Advantage: Unique across the server. Disadvantage: String values are not as optimal as integer values for performance when used in joins, indexes and conditions. More storage space is required than INT. Please note that I am looking to create list of all the generic comparisons. There can be special cases where the stated information is incorrect, feel free to comment on the same. Please leave your opinion and advice in comment section. I will combine a final list and update this blog after a week. By listing your name in post, I will also give due credit.
