  • Need to check uptime on a large file being hosted

    - by trustfundbaby
I have a dynamically generated rss feed that is about 150M in size (don't ask) The problem is that it keeps crapping out sporadically and there is no way to monitor it without downloading the entire feed to get a 200 status. Pingdom times out on it and returns a 'down' error. So my question is, how do I check that this thing is up and running

  • ASP.NET access a folder as ASPNET even though impersonation is set

    - by Ron Harlev
I have my ASP.NET web.config set with impersonation <identity impersonate="true" userName="domainName\userName" password="userPassword" /> I'm running some a method like IO.Directory.GetFiles(somePath) And monitoring the file system access with Process Monitor I keep getting all the access requests from the aspnet_wp.exe process to the folder, as the ASPNET user. Why am I not seeing the access as the impersonated user?

  • Virtualenv with Eclipse (Galileo)

    - by Adam Nelson
Does anybody have directions for getting Eclipse (Galileo), PyDev, and Virtualenv working together? I'm specifically trying to run Pinax but any instructions are fine. I thought I had it (and even blogged everything but the final step - interactive debugging) and still there is no solution. I'm specifically on OS X but any answer should be sufficient. This is the best resource I've found so far: http://blog.vlku.com/index.php/2009/06/10/djangoeclipse-with-code-complete-screencast/

  • How are DynamicResources built and their use in contextmenus.

    - by miguel
Are dynamic resources truly dynamic? If I define a DynamicResource, I realise that an expression is created (where?) that is not translated into a resource until runtime, however, What I do not understans is whether this dynamicresouce, once built, is now "Static" For instance, if I create a context menu via a dynamicresource, are the menuitems which are created at runtime on access then static, even if they are bound? If so, how can i create a dynamic context menu in XAML?

  • Facebook graph api resources!

    - by kielie
Hi guys, I am creating a little flash game for the facebook platform, but I am finding it very difficult to get any decent documentation on the graph api, so if anyone has a decent resource for a beginner to go and learn the basics, I would appreciate it very much, as I am struggling to grasp the concept. Thanx!

  • Fixed income data online

I am looking for a resource to download fixed income data online, much like there is access to stock data from yahoo. At the very least I'd like the treasury bonds. I use python, but any help would be appreciated.

  • Is there a message generator

    - by Jlouro
I don’t want to have my messages to the user stored in the application, or in a resource file. By message I mean, those difficult strings that we have to write to tell the user what is going on or wrong in the application at the precise time. Is there a simple message generator? Simple stuff, but as to handle singular/plural and feminine/masculine.

  • How does the setup bootstrapper detect if prerequisites are installed?

    - by Marek
Trying to solve this problem. I would like to learn how the bootstrapper detects if prerequisites (specifically .NET 3.5) are installed. According to this reference, a way to detect if .NET is installed is to check the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v3.5 Using process monitor, I have inspected registry queries done by the bootstrapper (setup.exe) and it did not show any access to this registry key. Does anybody know how the bootstrapper determines whether the prerequisites are installed on the target system?

  • Did anyone give these smart pointers (auto_any, scoped_any, shared_any) a test drive?

    - by Johann Gerell
I'm investigating smart pointers with "shared" functionality for Windows CE and Mobile, where the VS 2008 tr1 std::shared_ptr cannot be used (due to linkage to a v.9 dll not present on CE, obviously, if I understand it correctly). There's a semi-old MSDN Magazine article with sources from a Microsoftie (Eric Niebler): Achieve More Reliable Resource Management with Our Custom C++ Classes. The reasoning, design and implementation of his shared_any looks solid, but I'm wondering if anyone ever actually tested the lot on any platform (not necessarily WinCe/WM)?

  • Where did this class come from?

    - by Karl
How would you go about establishing where a class ( or maybe resource ) has been loaded from? I am trying to work out exactly where a class has been loaded from. Does anyone know if you can find out the following: Which Jar file did the class come from ? What classloader loaded the file?

  • how do addressing modes work on a physical level?

    - by altvali
I'm trying to learn this basic thing about processors that should be taught in every CS department of every university. Yet i can't find it on the net (Google doesn't help) and i can't find it in my class materials either. Do you know any good resource on how addressing modes work on a physical level? I'm particularly interested in Intel processors.

  • Windows PE - Where and how are strings stored if not in resources?

    - by sdadsas
Usually strings (like content/titles of dialog boxes) in .exe files are stored in some sort of resources. But in some recent exes I disassembled/resource-inspected I couldn't find any resources containing the string but it was somehow hardcoded with db's into the program source code. How can I extract and modify strings directly located in the program? I assume those are just the equivalent to const char*s in C++? Why would someone not "outsource" the contents of dialog boxes, menus, etc?

  • How can you debug Lego Mindstorms programs?

    - by chris
Is there any way to add any sort of debugging to a Lego Mindstorms program, when using the NXT drag-and-drop environment? It would be nice to be able to monitor the status of the various sensors, but even knowing what step in the program was running would be nice.

  • Prevent PowerPoint from pausing when focus is lost

    - by great_llama
I've written an app that allows me to start multiple PowerPoint presentations, each on its own monitor (this particular config has 4 monitors). The problem I have now is that only the presentation that has focus has any animation. The other 3 pause until they receive focus via mouse click. Is there any way to keep this pause behavior from happening? (trick PowerPoint into thinking that all 4 retain focus, or anything else to accomplish 4 simultaneously animated presentations...)

  • x:Static markup extension

    - by plotnick
I have a Window.Resource object and the next statement <CollectionViewSource Source="{Binding Source={x:Static Application.Current}, Path=someProperty}" x:Key="someView" /> But what if I need to point to a public property in the Window's code-behind, not the App's? I've tried to use 'this' instead of 'Application.Current', but it doesn't work. Help me...
