• OpenVPN on Tomato and Vista - can't see my network

  I followed the instructions here (http://todayguesswhat.blogspot.ca/2011/03/quick-simple-vpn-setup-guide-using.html) to set up a TCP connection to OpenVPN on my Tomato router. Used TCP because the place I usually surf at seems to have the other ports blocked. My Vista laptop is able to connect to the router but I don't appear to be getting an IP address. I'm able to access my router's admin page, but I can't see the network at home. When I browse to Whatsmyip I see my home IP.   I'm trying to image a SATA laptop hard drive, using DriveImageXML, that is attached to my computer via a USB adapter. I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. DriveXML is returning: Could not initialize Windows Volume Shadow Service (VSS). ERROR C:\Program Files (x86)\Runtime Software\Drivelmage XML\vss64.exe failed to start. ERROR TIMEOUT Make sure VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. Click Help for more information. VSSVC.EXE is running in Task Manager, as is VSS64.exe. Looking at the FAQ on the Runtime webpage this turned up: Please verify in Settings-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services that the following services are enabled: MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Volume Shadow Copy Also make sure you are able to stop and start these services. Possible reasons for VSS failures: For VSS to work, at least one volume in your computer must be NTFS. If you use only FAT drives, VSS will not function. The required NTFS volume does not need to be identical with the volume you want to image. You should make sure that VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. If the problems persist, registering "oleaut.dll" and "oleaut32.dll" using "regsvr32" might help. Both of those services are running and can be started and stopped without issue. Using "regsvr32" to register ""oleaut32.dll" returns successful, but "oleaut.dll" returns: The module "oleaut.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found. Some other information that might be relevant. Browsing to the drive is successful, but accessing certain folders returns an "access" error. Windows runs a permissions adder that adds the current user profile to the NFTS permissions. Could this be the cause of the issue? DriveImage XML is running as Administrator. Thoughts?

• Cannot Start Nginx Compiled from Source

  I am trying to compile Nginx from source based on the original compiled Nginx server running on my DigitalOcean server ( Ubuntu-14.04 64x ) but with a few extra modules. I can get everything installed smoothly but I can not get it to start. I am sure the ini is correct because I copied the original source off the current running Nginx server [ Even though I see that Nginx now adds the ini when compiling fron source ]. And now to start the server: service nginx start And this is where s#!+ hits the fan - Nada. I check to see if Nginx is running with service --status-all and its not. Also with nginx -V and its not installed??? I reboot the system too and still nothing. So I am not sure what is wrong here. The ini was copied over from the old server along with all the other config files after deleting the old files. When I opened the new compiled files, the nginx default data was present so I replaced them with my old original data prior to starting the new server for the first time. Also to be safe, I rm /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default and symlinked with ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/default /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default with no errors and I verified that the data was in the sites-enabled/default file. I don't think the server really/fully installed because of the nginx -V result: The program 'nginx' can be found in the following packages: * nginx-core * nginx-extras * nginx-full * nginx-light * nginx-naxsi Try: apt-get install <selected package> Do/should I apt-get install nginx-1.7.4 ?? Or what package do I use being that its a custom package and make install earlier did nothing?? If you need to see the conf files I copied over from the old to the custom server, LMK and I'll post them. Again your help here would be appreciated!

• Birt on Tomcat unable to find JARs

  First, my setup: BiRT Runtime: 3.7.2. Ubuntu 10.04 Tomcat 6 Sun Java 1.6.0 I have a jar file I want to deploy onto the Tomcat server so it is usable by the runtime, so I placed the jar file in /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/birt/WEB-INF/lib. As I understand it this is the default location for JAR files that are going to be used by a BiRT report. But the jar file is not accessible by the report that is trying to call it. In the BiRT logs I see: Error evaluating Javascript expression. Script engine error: ReferenceError: "DynDSinfo" is not defined. (/report/data-sources/oda-data-source[@id="54"]/method[@name="beforeOpen"]#20) Script source: /report/data-sources/oda-data-source[@id="54"]/method[@name="beforeOpen"], line: 0, text: __bm_beforeOpen() org.eclipse.birt.data.engine.core.DataException: Fail to execute script in function __bm_beforeOpen(). Source: "DynDSinfo" is the class I am trying to reference.. and now for the kicker... this works fine on Tomcat6 on Windows 7. The same files in the same places. I have tried setting heap to 1024m, 512m and setting the stack to 64k and 128k (and each of these combinations) with no luck. My open files was originally 256 and I have bumped this to 1024. I have been googling around for a bit and all posts say to decrease heap size and increase stack size but that doesnt seem to help. Anyone have anymore ideas? • Sun-JRE on CentOS-4.8 RPM error: post-install scriptlet failed, exit status 5

  I have a server with CentOS 4.8 installed. The provided is rubbish, but there's only a few months left, and they're busy being sued by Chase bank, so I doubt I can get CentOS 5. I wiped the server clean using Virtuozzo, and found that the default image is VERY empty. I even had to install yum myself. I've reached the point where I want to install TomCat. I downloaded the Sun JRE as a .rpm.bin file, did chmod a+x and ran it. • .NET 2.0 "not installed" after upgrade to Windows 7

  I Recently upgraded to Windows 7 (Business) RTM from Vista Business and everything is going great, it fixed the BSOD I was getting and the performance of my laptop is improved. However; during the upgrade, something seems to have gone awry with my .NET 2.0 installation. When attempting to install FlashDevelop, I get the following error from the installer package You need to install Maicrtosoft.NET 2.0 runtime before installing FlasgDevelop. You Have . I have a previous release of FD installed from before the upgrade and this still works fine. So I gave up on the new version of FD and got on with my day. Then I tried to install the Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.1 and that says I am missing a couple of prerequisites, one of which is .NET 2.0. When I download the .NET 2.0 runtime the installer fails, telling me that This product is already installed as part of the operating system. Does anyone have any idea how to make my computer recognise that .NET 2 is in fact installed. UPDATE I've checked Windows Features and everything relating to .NET is already installed. I've also been through my list of installed programs looking for .NET to in an attempt to uninstall it but it isn't there. In fact, the only thing that looks like a .NET distro that I am able to uninstall is the 3.5 Compact Framework.

  I have inherited a .NET Framework 1.1 web site that I must host with IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008. I'm having some trouble. 1. Installation I installed .NET Framework 1.1 following these instructions. The installation automatically created a new Application Pool "ASP.NET 1.1". I use that. 2. Trouble When I launch the web site I see web.config runtime errors: The tag contains an invalid value for the 'culture' attribute. I fix that one and then see: Child nodes are not allowed. I don't want to keep playing this whack-a-mole game. Something must be wrong. 3. Am I sure this is .NET 1.1? I examine the automatically created application pool. I see that it's 1.1. Advanced Settings... Basic Settings... This doesn't seem right. While 1.1 is set, it's not an option in the Advanced drop down selectors. And why in the Basic box is it just "v1.1" and not ".NET Framework v1.1.4322"? That would be more consistent. 4. I cannot create other .NET 1.1 App Pools I cannot select .NET Framework 1.1 for other application pools. It's not an option in the drop down selectors. What's up with that? What now? Why isn't v1.1 an option for all AppPools? How can I verify my application is in fact using .NET Framework 1.1? Why might I get these runtime errors?

• Managing multiple Apache proxies simultaneously (mod_proxy_balancer)

  The frontend of my web application is formed by currently two Apache reverse proxies, using mod_proxy_balancer to distribute traffic over a number of backend application servers. Both frontend reverse proxies, running on separate hosts, are accessible from the internet. DNS round robin distributes traffic over both. In the future, the number of reverse proxies is likely to grow, since the webapplication is very bandwidth-heavy. My question is: how do I keep the state of both reverse balancers / proxies in sync? For example, for maintenance purposes, I might want to reduce the load on one of the backend appservers. Currently I can do that by accessing the Balancer-Manager web form on each proxy, and change the distribution rules. But I have to do that on each proxy manually and make sure I enter the same stuff. Is it possible to "link" multiple instances of mod_proxy_balancer? Or is there a tool out there that connects to a number of instances, and updates all with the same information? Update: The tool should retrieve the runtime status and make runtime changes, just like the existing Balancer-Manager, only for a number of proxies - not just for one. Modification of configuration files is not what I'm interested in (as there are plenty tools for that).

  I'm trying to image a SATA laptop hard drive, using DriveImageXML, that is attached to my computer via a USB adapter. I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. DriveXML is returning: Could not initialize Windows Volume Shadow Service (VSS). ERROR C:\Program Files (x86)\Runtime Software\Drivelmage XML\vss64.exe failed to start. ERROR TIMEOUT Make sure VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. Click Help for more information. VSSVC.EXE is running in Task Manager, as is VSS64.exe. Looking at the FAQ on the Runtime webpage this turned up: Please verify in Settings-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services that the following services are enabled: MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Volume Shadow Copy Also make sure you are able to stop and start these services. Possible reasons for VSS failures: For VSS to work, at least one volume in your computer must be NTFS. If you use only FAT drives, VSS will not function. The required NTFS volume does not need to be identical with the volume you want to image. You should make sure that VSSVC.EXE is running in your task manager. If the problems persist, registering "oleaut.dll" and "oleaut32.dll" using "regsvr32" might help. Both of those services are running and can be started and stopped without issue. Using "regsvr32" to register ""oleaut32.dll" returns successful, but "oleaut.dll" returns: The module "oleaut.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found. Some other information that might be relevant. Browsing to the drive is successful, but accessing certain folders returns an "access" error. Windows runs a permissions adder that adds the current user profile to the NFTS permissions. Could this be the cause of the issue? DriveImage XML is running as Administrator. Thoughts?

Already Google and several users have had this same issue but none posted the solution or they never solved. Note: Each of the servers also has two other separate tomcat domains that run different applications Investigated area: There is no Heap Memory Leak and the GC is running fine without any issues over any period of time The current busy thread count corresponds directly to the application usage – weekends and nights have lesser no. of threads compared to business hours ThreadLocal uses a WeakReference internally. If the ThreadLocal is not strongly referenced, it will be garbage-collected, even though various threads have values stored via that ThreadLocal. Additionally, ThreadLocal values are actually stored in the Thread; if a thread dies, all of the values associated with that thread through a ThreadLocal are collected. If you have a ThreadLocal as a final class member, that's a strong reference, and it cannot be collected until the class is unloaded. But this is how any class member works, and isn't considered a memory leak. The cited problem only comes into play when the value stored in a ThreadLocal strongly references that ThreadLocal—sort of a circular reference. In this case, the value (a SimpleDateFormat), has no backwards reference to the ThreadLocal. There's no memory leak in this code. Can anyone please let me know what could be the cause of this and what to be monitored?

• Is there a way to run CUDA applications with the CUDA device being a secondary adapter?

  I've been trying to run a CUDA program on a remote computer which has Windows 7 installed. The GPU is GeForce GTX 480. One of the problems I've been facing is that, the computer has two adapters, 1) Standard VGA Adapter 2) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 Even though this shows in the device manager. The desktop uses the standard VGA Adapter. I'm assuming this is because the Standard VGA is the primary adapter. Also the device manager shows that the monitor is connected to the standard VGA Adapter. In this scenario if i try to run any CUDA application it fails to recognise a CUDA capable device. Is it necessary for the NVIDIA adapter to be the primary one? Or is there any way to use CUDA when the graphics card is a secondary adapter. I've seen a few posts in the NVIDIA forums on this before, one suggests using another low cost NVIDIA card as the primary adapter, but that is currently not an option. I couldn't find any other solutions. Thanks I tried running the deviceQuery test from the NVIDIA GPU Computing Samples. This was the result i obtained CUDA Device Query (Runtime API) version (CUDART static linking) cudaGetDeviceCount FAILED CUDA Driver and Runtime version may be mismatched FAILED The driver version I'm using is 263.06. The CUDA version is 3.2 I ran the same test on my desktop which also has windows 7 and a GeForce GTX 465. The CUDA toolkit version is 3.2. The driver version was the same and the test passed, although it failed with an older driver.

  I'm using suidperl to run some programs that require root permissions. however, the runtime linker won't expand library paths which contain $ORIGIN entries so the programs i want to run (jstack from java) won't run. more info here There is one exception to the advice to make heavy use of $ORIGIN. The runtime linker will not expand tokens like $ORIGIN for secure (setuid) applications. What else can I do? Update: Remote Desktop does not work. It just disappear after entering username and password from Win7-64 computer Update: I have disconected server.
