  • how to search for a term only in non test files

    I use ack and I like it. However from time to time I need to search for something in my code base and I want to ignore all the files residing in test directory. Basically all the files which have test in their absolute path should be not included in the search. How do I achieve that? I am willing to have a custom bash script. Something like ack_no_test "application" - search for "application" in all files but ignore files residing in test directory

  • How to "grep" out specific line ranges of a file

    There are often times I'll grep -l whatev file to find what I'm looking for. Say the output is 1234: whatev 1 5555: whatev 2 6643: whatev 3 If I want to then just extract the lines between 1234 and 5555, is there a tool to do that? For static files I have a script that does wc -l of the file and then does the math to split it out with tail & head but that doesn't work out so well with log files that are constantly being written to.

  • iPhone - At user event create objects in the view

    Hello, I am new to iPhone programming, so I think part of the problem is that I don't know what I really want to google to find my answer. I am looking for a method that allows a user to draw a line on the screen. There is no guarantee that it will be straight, it can be curved or whatever. I was thinking that I could create some small square image, and then as they draw, place them into a NSset. But I am not really sure how to communicate each new object up to the view. Up to this point, I've just been messing around with objects I put on the view and then assign movement to those, this is my first jump into on-the-fly object creation. It might be that I just need to jump into a class/object type or even a tutorial, any guidance would be great. Thanks!

I want the application to go to my tab view when the functions have been completed. How do I do this? Here is what the views look like.     Is it possible to keep references to views keyed off of their hashCode? Something like: Map<Integer, View> views; views.put(view1.hashCode(), view1); views.put(view2.hashCode(), view2); views.put(viewN.hashCode(), viewN); I have a few in my view hierarchy and am downloading images for each. I want to be able to iterate over them quickly, or see if I've already previously added one (hence the map).

  • How to make shell output redirect (>) write while script is still running?

    I wrote a short script that never terminates. This script continuously generates output that I have to check on every now and then. I'm running it on a lab computer through SSH, and redirecting the output to a file in my public_html folder on that machine. python script.py > ~/public_html/results.txt However, the results don't show up immediately when I refresh the address. The results show up when I terminate the program, but as I said, it doesn't halt by itself. Is that redirect (>) being lazy with with writing? Is there a way to continuously (or with an interval) update the results in the file? Or is it the webserver that doesn't update the file while it is still being written?

  • Why can't I view a directory in Linux?

    I am setting up a Linux web server running apache. I uploaded and untared my web sites files. The files in the main directory are all visible when I am SSH'd into the system. However, I am blocked from all subdirectories. If I write: # cd images Then I get the error: -bash: cd: images: Permission denied I am signed in as ec2-user. I untarred the stuff as ec2-user and I doubt there was any permissions in the tar file since I created the archive on a Windows system. The weird thing is that I am the owner of this directory. Here is a snippet of the command: ls -l drw-rw-r-- 19 ec2-user ec2-user 4096 May 4 04:09 images When I do "sudo su" and then type the command cd images everything is fine. Why do I get "Permission denied" as ec2-user if I am the owner and have rw permission?

    I have noticed some error during the Linux boot. They seem to continue to occur after the boot adding lines to the log every few seconds. Once booted this normally does not appear to be causing any problems. However, around 1 in 10 boots results in a kernel panic and the computer has on two or three occasions suddenly rebooted after being powered on for a number of hours. I presume the cause of the reboot is a kernel panic as well. I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and I have had Ubuntu installed on the computer for around a year. I have googled around and not found anything useful. I have provided the kernel log lines and the output of smartctl.     Hi all, I have a strange problem with StateListDrawable or maybe (probably) I'm missing something. I created a test application for it and the same problem occurs.   • What exactly is a Deamon ? ( how to run a root command from apache binded script that uses www-data user )?

    I am trying to run this command from WSGI script service httpd restart The problem is this command can only be run by root and apache uses the www-data user. it has been said the solution is to use a Deamon Process i suppose the idea is to send the command to a file that will be executed by a script that is considered "root" user.. its difficult to understand why they would call this a Deamon Process and try to scare me. Perhaps it should have been called : proxy process when i got the idea that this was a proxy process.. i thought about adding a line to /var/spool/cron/root that way the cron would execute the command for me. but of course this means i have to get the system time and then add 1 second to it and then add it to that line so cron would execute the command for me as root but my script demands an output instantly. so i suppose i need to create a DEAMON PROCESS that works like the cron. in other words it is a bash file that will execute the command in a plain file.. but will this DEAMON PROCESS be running a while command 24/7 every second ? would that not waste resources ? it only needs to activate itself to check for a command to execute when there is a command to be executed. i mean in PHP and other programming languages.. running a while statement when there is nothing to be executed could waste resources of the server.. so why should a deamon process constantly be listening for anything. i only want it to listen and execute when it is needed. i do not need a process that is constantly listening.

If there is not a mobile view, the normal view will be rendered.5) In the  ASP.Net MVC 4.0 (Internet application) I created earlier (not the first project which was a mobile one) I can run it once more and see how it looks on the browser. If I want to view it with a mobile browser I must download one emulator like Opera Mobile.You can download Opera Mobile hereWhen I run the application I get the same view in both the desktop and the mobile browser. That was to be expected. Have a look at the picture below 6) Then I create another version of the _Layout.mobile.cshtml view in the Shared folder.I simply copy and paste the _Layout.cshtml  into the same folder and then rename it to _Layout.mobile.cshtml and then just alter the contents of the _Layout.mobile.cshtml.When I run again the application I get a different view on the desktop browser and a different one on the Opera mobile browser.Have a look at the picture below ?he Controller will instruct the ASP.Net runtime to select and render a view named _Layout.mobile.cshtml when the request will come from a mobile browser.?he runtime knows that a browser is a mobile one through the ASP.Net browser capability provider. Hope it helps!!!

    Consider this code (type names genericised for the purposes of example): // Bound to ListBox.ItemsSource _items = new ObservableCollection<Item>(); // ...Items are added here ... // Specify custom IComparer for this collection view _itemsView = CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(_items) ((ListCollectionView)_itemsView).CustomSort = new ItemComparer(); When I set CustomSort, the collection is sorted as I expect. However I require the data to re-sort itself at runtime in response to the changing of the properties on Item. The Item class derives from INotifyPropertyChanged and I know that the property fires correctly as my data template updates the values on screen, only the sorting logic is not being called. I have also tried raising INotifyPropertyChanged.PropertyChanged passing an empty string, to see if a generic notification would cause the sorting to be initiated. No bananas. EDIT In response to Kent's suggestion I thought I'd point out that sorting the items using this has the same result, namely that the collection sorts once but does not re-sort as the data changes: _itemsView.SortDescriptions.Add( new SortDescription("PropertyName", ListSortDirection.Ascending));

    i want to render one of these sets of views: head body-$id1 foot OR head body-$id2 foot which set exsists. i do it like this: try { $this->render("head"); $this->render("body-$id1"); $this->render("foot"); } catch (Exception $e) { $this->render("head"); $this->render("body-$id2"); $this->render("foot"); } but it causes the head view be rendered twice if body-$id1 does not exists. do you have a better solution? in another saying, may i check the existance of body-$id1 before rendering it?

    I usually see Ruby on Rails books using script/generate model Story name:string link:string which is a singular Story, while when it is controller script/generate controller Stories index then the Story now is Stories, which is plural. Is this a standard on Ruby on Rails? Is it true in other MVC frameworks too, like CakePHP, Symfony, Django, or TurboGears? I see that in the book Rails Space, the controller is also called User, which is the same as the model name, and it is the only exception I see. Update: also, when scaffold is done on Ruby on Rails, then automatically, the model is singular and the controller and view are both plural.

  • General approach for posting business logic status messages to UI?

    Hello all. I have been struggling with this question for awhile now, and I haven't reached a conclusion. I'm not typically a UI programmer, so forgive the noobishness. I'm writing a typical application with a UI layer (WPF) and a business layer. I want to post status messages to the UI from the business layer (perhaps deep within the business layer), but I don't want the business layer to have any knowledge of the UI. Is there a generally accepted pattern for this? I was thinking to have a message queue of some sort to which the business layer posts status messages, and have the view model of the UI subscribe to that queue and intercept messages from the queue and route them to the UI. Is that a good approach? Is there somewhere else I should start? Thank you.

  • producing a typewriter-like effect

    Android newb here. Please use small words :-) I'd like to simulate typewriter output on my Android. The output being displayed is generated by a game and is somewhat freeform. The effect I want to see individual characters appear at a rate of about 6 characters a second. When a 'carriage return' is seen, I'd like to insert a delay then resume typing on the left. What are some suggestions on views? Would the view of choice for this be a TextView? Even that seems like overkill for this read-only coarsely scrolling output. I saw something on this thread about an AsyncTask. That looks useful. Perhaps my game will write to some manner of buffer, and a subclass of AsyncTask will pull characters out every .15 seconds or so, add them to the TextView, then invalidate() the TextView? Sound like a plan?

Do I need to use the model layer for my experiment? How? Or do I need to modify my controller?
