• allow editing of config files by WIndows Server 2008 admins running non-elevated?

  My company produces a cross-platform server application which loads its configuration from user-editable configuration files. On Windows, config files are locked down at Setup time to allow reading by all users but restrict editing to Administrators only. Unfortunately, on Windows Server 2008, even local administrators no longer have admin privileges (because of UAC) unless they're running an elevated app. My question is: if a Windows Server 2008 admin wants to edit an admins-only config file, how does he normally do it? Is he forced to use a text editor which is smart enough to auto-elevate when elevation is needed, like Windows Explorer does in response to access denied errors? Or is there something that we can do in our app (e.g. in ACLs we lay down at setup time) which signal apps (or explorer) that elevation is needed before editing the file or which otherwise make our app friendlier to admins running on modern Windows OS's?

  Are there any (free preferably) XML Editors combined with FTP and file-tree browsing Project wide find+Replace I.e A bit like what Dreamweaver MX is but with fancier XML capabilities /XSLT /XSD Perhaps even DW does this...im still on an older version. I'd like to keep a smooth flow between find-edit-view-upload any ideas? Background: I have converted most of the html files of my legacy site into XML (which match the directory structure of my 'public docs' folder). Part of a step towards turning it into completely dynamic data via MVC /Front Controller Pattern.

• Vi/Vim: How to pipe visually selected text to a UNIX command and append output to current file

  Using Vim, I'm trying to pipe visually selected text to a UNIX command and have the output appended to the end of the current file. For example, say we have a SQL command such as: SELECT * FROM mytable; I want to do something like the following: V # select text :'<,'!mysql -uuser -ppass mydb But instead of having the output overwrite the currently selected text, I would like to have the output appended to the end of the file. You probably see where this is going. I'm working on using VIM as a simple SQL editor. That way, I don't have to leave VIM to edit, tweak, test SQL code. Thanks!

• Question about software that tracks divs better than notepad++

  I recently got hired as a web developer, and the project that I am overseeing has a formatting issue on one of the pages because one of the divs is out of whack. It is a fairly complex page with quite a bit of php, and from what I can gather, I am missing a </div> tag somewhere, and accordingly everything is messed up. I am currently using notepad++, which is decent at lining up divs, meaning that if you click on the opening div tag, it will highlight purple and also highlight the closing one. But it seems as though if you have div tags that span several lines (hundreds) it won't work. Has anyone else run into a similar situation? Is there a better editor I could be using that would do a better job of helping me with my div issue? Or do I have to go through and line up the divs 1 by 1? (there are like over 100). Please let me know!! Thanks

• CodeMirror Dynamic Syntax Validation

  Been trying to decide between using CodeMirror or Ace editor. I've been leaning towards CodeMirror, however there's one feature of Ace that I really like and that is how it does syntax validation. So as I'm typing there can appear a warning or error icon in the left gutter area beside the line number, and when I hover over it it gives me a little description. Is there any way to get this functionality in CodeMirror? Specifically, I'm using the css mode for CodeMirror. It'd also be nice to be able to add in my own custom validation. Thanks.

I was just thinking if it is possible to write a piece of code-template that will return me a list of all private field in the class separated by && operator in Visual Stuudio? • Which PHP IDE would you use on Windows, if you're used to TextMate on the Mac?

  Until now, most of my PHP development had been done on a Mac in TextMate. For a new client I need to work on a secured windows box, and I was wondering which IDEs I should be looking at, as someone used to working with TextMate. I've tried the 'E' editor, and I'm unconvinced. I've tried IDEs on the Mac, and they always seem like poor relations... but given that I'm having to move development platforms anyway, is there something better I should be looking at? Are there any decent text editors out there that I'm missing?

I don't know if I should dismiss touch-typing as a misconception, or include it as a recommended prerequisite.   Hi All, I'm still not sure this is the correct way to go about this, maybe not, but I'll ask anyway. I'd like to re-write wordpress (justification: because I can) albeit more simply myself in Django and I'm looking to be able to configure elements in different ways on the page. So for example I might have: Blog models A site update message model A latest comments model. Now, for each page on the site I want the user to be able to choose the order of and any items that go on it. In my thought process, this would work something like: class Page(models.Model) Slug = models.CharField(max_length=100) class PageItem(models.Model) Page = models.ForeignKey(Page) ItemType = models.CharField(max_length=100) InstanceNum = models.IntegerField() # all models have primary keys. Then, ideally, my template would loop through all the PageItems in a page which is easy enough to do. But what if my page item is a site update as opposed to a blog post? Basically, I am thinking I'd like to pull different item types back in different orders and display them using the appropriate templates. Now, I thought one way to do this would be to, in views.py, to loop through all of the objects and call the appropriate view function, return a bit of html as a string and then pipe that into the resultant template. My question is - is this the best way to go about doing things? If so, how do I do it? If not, which way should I be going? I'm pretty new to Django so I'm still learning what it can and can't do, so please bear with me. I've checked SO for dupes and don't think this has been asked before...

  After adding in the WidgetsInTemplateMixin, I am receiving an error dest.appendChild is not a function In the documentation, it claims that there will be an error if this.containerNode is not able to contain any child objects. However, I have marked the containerNode attachment point for a div with dojo type "dijit/layout/ContentPane". Can anyone explain to me why this isn't working? • Declare module name of classes for logging

  I currently am adding some features to our logging-library. One of these is the possibility to declare a module-name for a class that automatically gets preprended to any log-messages writing from within that class. However, if no module-name is provided, nothing is prepended. Currently I am using a trait-class that has a static function that returns the name. template< class T > struct ModuleNameTrait { static std::string Value() { return ""; } }; template< > struct ModuleNameTrait< Foo > { static std::string Value() { return "Foo"; } }; This class can be defined using a helper-macro. The drawback is, that the module-name has to be declared outside of the class. I would like this to be possible within the class. Also, I want to be able to remove all logging-code using a preprocessor directive. I know that using SFINAE one can check if a template argument has a certain member, but since other people, that are not as friendly with templates as I am, will have to maintain the code, I am looking for a much simpler solution. If there is none, I will stick with the traits approach. Thanks in advance!

  Hi Guys, Wondering if it's possible to change a value returned from a queryset before sending it off to the template. Say for example you have a bunch of records Date | Time | Description 10/05/2010 | 13:30 | Testing... etc... However, based on the day of the week the time may change. However this is static. For example on a monday the time is ALWAYS 15:00. Now you could add another table to configure special cases but to me it seems overkill, as this is a rule. How would you replace that value before sending it to the template? I thought about using the new if tags (if day=1), but this is more of business logic rather then presentation. Tested this in a custom template tag def render(self, context): result = self.model._default_manager.filter(from_date__lte=self.now).filter(to_date__gte=self.now) if self.day == 4: result = result.exclude(type__exact=2).order_by('time') else: result = result.order_by('type') result[0].time = '23:23:23' context[self.varname] = result return '' However it still displays the results from the DB, is this some how related to 'lazy' evaluation of templates? Thanks! Update Responding to comments below: It's not stored wrong in the DB, its stored Correctly However there is a small side case where the value needs to change. So for example I have a From Date & To date, my query checks if todays date is between those. Now with this they could setup a from date - to date for an entire year, and the special cases (like mondays as an example) is taken care off. However if you want to store in the DB you would have to capture several more records to cater for the side case. I.e you would be capturing the same information just to cater for that 1 day when the time changes. (And the time always changes on the same day, and is always the same)

  I'm trying to set up a Rails Template that would allow for comprehensive set-up of a specific Rails app. Using Pratik Naik's overview (http://m.onkey.org/2008/12/4/rails-templates), I was able to set up a couple of scaffolds and models, with a line that looks something like this ... generate("scaffold", "post", "title:string", "body:string") I'm now trying to add in Delayed Jobs, which normally has a migration file that looks like this: create_table :delayed_jobs, :force => true do |table| table.integer :priority, :default => 0 # Allows some jobs to jump to the front of the queue table.integer :attempts, :default => 0 # Provides for retries, but still fail eventually. table.text :handler # YAML-encoded string of the object that will do work table.text :last_error # reason for last failure (See Note below) table.datetime :run_at # When to run.   There's a bunch of special macros that MFC uses when creating dialogs, and in my quick tests I'm getting weird errors trying to compile a template dialog class. Is this likely to be a big pain to achieve? • No "redefinition of default parameter error" for class template member function?

  Why does the following give no compilation error?: // T.h template<class T> class X { public: void foo(int a = 42); }; // Main.cpp #include "T.h" #include <iostream> template<class T> void X<T>::foo(int a = 13) { std::cout << a << std::endl; } int main() { X<int> x; x.foo(); // prints 42 } It seems as though the 13 is just silently ignored by the compiler. Why is this? The cooky thing is that if the template declaration is in Main.cpp instead of a header file, I do indeed get the default parameter redefinition error. Now I know the compiler will complain about this if it were just an ordinary (non-template) function. What does the standard have to say about default parameters in class template member functions or function templates?

  in the problem i am facing i need something which works more or less like a polymorphic class, but which would allow for virtual template methods. the point is, i would like to create an array of subproblems, each one being solved by a different technique implemented in a different class, but holding the same interface, then pass a set of parameters (which are functions/functors - this is where templates jump up) to all the subproblems and get back a solution. if the parameters would be, e.g., ints, this would be something like: struct subproblem { ... virtual void solve (double& solution, double parameter)=0; } struct subproblem0: public subproblem { ... virtual void solve (double& solution, double parameter){...}; } struct subproblem1: public subproblem { ... virtual void solve (double* solution, double parameter){...}; } int main{ subproblem problem[2]; subproblem[0] = new subproblem0(); subproblem[1] = new subproblem1(); double argument0(0), argument1(1), sol0[2], sol1[2]; for(unsigned int i(0);i<2;++i) { problem[i]->solve( &(sol0[i]) , argument0); problem[i]->solve( &(sol1[i]) , argument1); } return 0; } but the problem is, i need the arguments to be something like Arg<T1,T2> argument0(f1,f2) and thus the solve method to be something of the likes of template<T1,T2> solve (double* solution, Arg<T1,T2> parameter) which cant obviously be declared virtual ( so cant be called from a pointer to the base class)... now i'm pretty stuck and don't know how to procede...

• Image is not displaying in email template on 2nd time forward

  Good day Friends, I've a mass mailing program with simple mail templates (HTML and few Images). I've a problem with image display. My clients are not getting images in the mail. Sometimes they get a mail with all the images, But if they forward the same email to someone else, they can’t get the images in forwarded mail. I really don’t know what’s happening with the approach., most of the cases the 2nd time forwarded mail is not showing the images properly. For example, consider I send a mail to client A, Here, Client A will get a mail with Images. Further, If Client A forward the same message to Person B then Person B is not getting Images in the Forwarded email. I’m using the following Approach to Embed an image in the mail template: StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(" <some html content> <img src=\"cid:main.png\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" usemap=\"#Map\"> </html content ends here>"); Attachment imgMain = new Attachment(Server.MapPath("main.png")); imgMain.ContentId = "main.png"; MailMessageObject.Attachments.Add(imgMain); Instead of attachment, I tried bypassing the Image path from server directly.
