What I want to be able to do is to remove the minimize and maximize, while keeping the close. I also what to make the close minimize the form instead of closing it. How can this be done?

  • Labeling a chart in VB.NET (VS 2008)

    Hi all, I have created a basic chart in VB.NET (VS 2008) and it is working good, but I would like to label the axies of the chart. The method "AxisLabel" is not what I am looking for. I want to put the word "Dollars" vertically on the far left hand side of my chart (just left of the numbers labeling the "y" axis) and the word "Months" horizontally at the bottom of the chart but above the legend (just below the numbers labeling the "x" axis).   • How do you make cin typesafe?

    It is well known that cin is not typesafe (e.g. cin integer; and entering "fifty five" will cause it to flip out). I have seen many not-so-elegant ways to hand this, such as getlining a string and using sstream to convert it to a number, or looping with cin.fail() and clearing the stream and reentering it, etc. Is there any library or anyway to overload the inserter operator to make cin automatically typesafe?

  • Given a program's source code, what is a simple way to calculate the function points?

    For class, I was told to give a function point count for Mozilla Thunderbird, however I am absolutely stumped as to how to approach this. Some methods I saw online suggested analyzing the interface of the program itself, however they used very simple methods. Thunderbird has a very complex interface and has so many FPs, I'm not sure if I could do it by hand. Some help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Automatically creating C# wrappers from c headers?

    Is there a way to automatically create p/invoke wrappers for .net from a c header? Of course I could create them by hand, but maintaining them would be painful, and I'd probably make a mistake somewhere resulting in hard to debug crashes. I tried SWIG, but it created full classes where simple structs would be sufficient. I'd prefer if the output worked on mono too, but that is not necessary.

  • Is there a way to split a widescreen monitor in to two or more virtual monitors?

    Like most developers I have grown to love dual monitors. I won't go into all the reasons for their goodness; just take it as a given. However, they are not perfect. You can never seem to line them up "just right". You always end up with the monitors at slight funny angles. And of course the bezel always gets in the way. And this is with identical monitors. The problem is much worse with different monitors -- VMWare's multi monitor feature won't even work with monitors of differnt resolutions. When you use multiple monnitors, one of them becomes your primary monitor of focus. Your focus may flip from one monitor to the other, but at any point in time you are usually focusing on only one monitor. There are exceptions to this (WinDiff, Excel), but this is generally the case. I suggest that having a single large monitor with all the benefits of multiple smaller monitors would be a better solution. Wide screen monitors are fantastic, but it is hard to use all the space efficiently. If you are writing code you are generally working on the left-hand side of the window. If you maximize an editor on a wide-screen monitor the right-hand side of the window will be a sea of white. Programs like WinSplit Revolution will help to organise your windows, but this is really just addressing the symptom, not the problem. Even with WinSplit Revolution, when you maximise a window it will take up the whole screen. You can't lock a window into a specific section of the screen. This is where virtual monitors comes in. What would be really nice is a video driver that sits on top of the existing driver, but allows a single monitor to be virtualised into multiple monitors. Control Panel would see your single physical monitor as two or more virtual monitors. The software could even support a virtual bezel to emphasise what is happening, or you could opt for seamless mode. Programs like WinSplit Revolution and UltraMon would still work. This virtual video driver would allow you to slice & dice your physical monitor into as many virtual monitors as you want. Does anybody know if such software exists? If not, are there any budding Windows display driver guru's out there willing to take up the challenge? I am not after the myriad of virtual desktop/window manager programs that are available. I get frustrated with these programs. They seem good at first but they usually have some strange behaviour and don't work well with other programs (such as WinSplit Revolution). I want the real thing!

    I'm trying to rotate a canvas element AFTER it's been appended to the DOM. Canvas is 600x50 and this is the code at hand: var canvas = document.getElementsByTagName('canvas')[2]; var ctx = canvas.getContext('2d'); ctx.translate(300, 25); // rotate @ center ctx.rotate(angle * Math.PI/180); which isn't accomplishing the task.     I need a regular expression to basically get the first part of a string, before the first slash (). For example in the following: C:\MyFolder\MyFile.zip The part I need is "C:" Another example: somebucketname\MyFolder\MyFile.zip I would need "somebucketname" I also need a regular expression to retrieve the "right hand" part of it, so everything after the first slash (excluding the slash.) For example somebucketname\MyFolder\MyFile.zip would return MyFolder\MyFile.zip.

  • No pre-built ActionBar for Android pre-3.0?

    I note the release a few days ago of the static library bringing fragments to Android versions prior to 3.0, but does this library include the ActionBar? I suspect not. I assume that for an app that will work on pre-3.0 versions, that it needs a hand-built ActionBar implementation for versions up to 2.3 and then to use the OS default ActionBar in v3.0? for some reason I assumed the library had ActionBar in it, but as I dig further I'm not finding any evidence of its presence.

  • vim unicode bufread/bufwrite script

    Problem: I want my unicode characters to be stored on disk as (rather tan utf8/16 encoding) \u#### However, I want them dispalyed as unicode characters when opened up in vim. I think the easiest way to acheive this is some bufopen/bufwrite script that automatically: on opening, convert \u#### to unicode character on writing, convert unicode characters into \u#### However, I don't know what functions to call to make this happen. Can someone lend a hand? Thanks!

    Let's say I have the following class: class Person(val firstName:String, val lastName:String) Is there an automatic way to generate xml from this class without having to hand create a toXml() method? Ideally the output would be something like: <Person <firstNameJohn</firstName <lastNameSmith</lastName </Person It seems like there should be a way to do this without having to write all that out manually. Perhaps there is a trait I haven't found yet?
