  • Rails: Display Maintenance Page if No Database Connection Available

    I'm looking for a solution that will allow my rails app to render a user-friendly maintenance page when there is no Mysql server available to connect to. Normally a Mysql::Error is thrown from the mysql connection adapter in active_record. Something like: /!\ FAILSAFE /!\ Wed May 26 11:40:14 -0700 2010 Status: 500 Internal Server Error Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' Is there a low-overhead way to catch this error and render a maintenance page instead? I'm assuming that since connections are actually made in the active_record mysql adapter the app never makes it to the controller stack before it throws the error, so you can't catch it in a controller. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  • Displaying xaml resources dynamically?

    I used Mike Swanson's illustrator to xaml converter to convert some of my images to xaml. The convert creates a viewbox that contains the image. These viewboxes I made resource files in my program. The code below shows what I'm trying to do: I have a viewmodel that has an enum variable called PrimaryWinding of type Windings. Here is a simplified example structure: -- Table CREATE TABLE tblItem ( ItemId int identity(1,1) primary key, Name varchar(20) ) go -- View CREATE VIEW vwItem AS SELECT * FROM tblItem -- RLS Filtering Condition go -- Instead Of Insert Trigger CREATE TRIGGER IO_vwItem_Insert ON vwItem INSTEAD OF INSERT AS BEGIN -- RLS Security Checks on inserted Table -- Insert Records Into Table INSERT INTO tblItem (Name) SELECT Name FROM inserted; END go If I want to insert a record and get its identity, before implementing the RLS Instead Of trigger, I used: DECLARE @ItemId int; INSERT INTO tblItem (Name) VALUES ('MyName'); SELECT @ItemId = SCOPE_IDENTITY(); With the trigger, SCOPE_IDENTITY() no longer works - it returns NULL. I've seen suggestions for using the OUTPUT clause to get the identity back, but I can't seem to get it to work the way I need it to. If I put the OUTPUT clause on the view insert, nothing is ever entered into it. -- Nothing is added to @ItemIds DECLARE @ItemIds TABLE (ItemId int); INSERT INTO vwItem (Name) OUTPUT INSERTED.ItemId INTO @ItemIds VALUES ('MyName'); If I put the OUTPUT clause in the trigger on the INSERT statement, the trigger returns the table (I can view it from SQL Management Studio).     Hello ! I am new to Ruby on Rails and I have a (maybe naive) question: I want to implement reflection of direct SQL Updates of the underlying database in an ActiveRecord (and finally in the generated html). By "direct updates" I mean updating the database bypassing the ActiveRecord methods, for example by MySQL console. I guess here MySQL triggers could be used that would call some stored procedure that would cause the appropriate ActiveRecord to be reloaded. Is there some automatic handling of this scenario in ActiveRecord/Ruby on Rails ? Did somebody implement this scenario ? Can somebody recommend using other MVC frameworks to reflect direct changes in mapped databases ?

  • Property trigger in XAML for IsMouseOver fails to set Border.Background

    I'm currently trying to create a ControlTemplate for the Button class in WPF, replacing the usual visual tree with something that makes the button look similar to the little (X) close icon on Google Chrome's tabs. I decided to use a Path object in XAML to achieve the effect. Using a property trigger, the control responds to a change in the IsMouseOver property by setting the icon's red background. The problem with this is that the trigger just isn't working. Nothing changes in the button's appearance. However, if I remove the Background="Transparent" value from the Border object in the ControlTemplate, the trigger does work (albeit only when over the 'X'). I really can't explain this. Setters for any other properties placed in the borderStyle resource work fine, but the Background setter fails as soon as the default background is specified in the ControlTemplate. Any ideas why it's happening and how I can fix it? I know I could easily replace this code with, for example, a .PNG-based image, but I want to understand why the current implementation isn't working. Thanks! :)

  • Cannot connect to mysql via servlet

    Hi all I have been since 2 days trying to figure out why my servlet does not connect to the database MySql. I have mysql installed and working properly and eclipse.     Hi All, Quick question - I run two linux boxes, one my own desktop and the other my VPS. For security reasons on the VPS end I opted for socket connections to MySQL (/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock). I know I can tunnel like this: ssh -L 3307:127.0.0.1:3306 [email protected] if I set up the remote sql server to listen on some port, but what I want to know is can I do something like: ssh -L /path/to/myremotesqlserver.sock:/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock thereby tunnelling two sockets, as opposed to two ports? A perfectly acceptable solution would also be to forward a local port to the remote socket file, but where possible I'm trying not to have tcp servers running on the remote box. I have put the program on both computers. What I want to do is for those two programs to see the same database that is on one computer. For them to be able to add, delete, update that 1 database. How do I do that? How do I network the mysql database? Do I also have to install wampserver on the other computer? What do I do? Please enlighten me.

    We are moving a production site to EC2/RDS Followed these instructions: http://geehwan.posterous.com/moving-a-production-mysql-database-to-amazon I have set up row-based binary logging on the production server did a: mysqldump --single-transaction --master-data=2 -C -q -u root -p backup.sql then imported to RDS instance. No dramas. Due to the size of the db, and minimal downtime requirements, I've got to update the ec2 db to the latest datas via the binlogs, and it won't let me. mysqlbinlog mysql-bin.000004 --start-position=360812488 | mysql -uroot -p -h and it says: ERROR 1227 (42000) at line 6: Access denied; you need (at least one of) the SUPER privilege(s) for this operation My guess, based on what is on line 6 of the binlog, is that it's the 'write to the BINLOG' statements in the SQL backup, and because RDS doesn't support this, it can't run these statements, or something, I don't really know. Please help.

I am trying to check some data in the MySQL binary log files, and I get the following error: # mysqlbinlog mysql-bin.000021 mysqlbinlog: unknown option '--ssl' In addition, I can't even view the help for this command: # mysqlbinlog --help mysqlbinlog: unknown option '--ssl' Why does mysqlbinlog not know about the option ssl? This server was compiled with SSL, and ssl is activated in the my.cnf configuration file. We use SSL for remote connections, but I am running this command on the local host.

    I was using phpmyadmin(in Wamp) without a password for root. I thought to set a password for root and goto Privileges page and set a password for root. Now whenever I go to localhost/phpmyadmin page it gives me the following error. MySQL said: Documentation #1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server. I don't know that what is the problem. It is not showing me a login type page to enter a username and password. Any idea that what is the problem ? Thanks

  • Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed. On win 7

    I have had to reinstall MySQL, however the service is failing to start with the above cause listed in evnt viewer. One solution is apparently to delete a couple of files prefixed with 'ib_logfile' which represent any old databases. However I do not have these files, and my service is still failing to start ... ? When I say I don't have these files I did a search using the windows search with zero results, and they are definitely not present in my mysql install directory. And I don't have the "documents and setting/appilcation data' folder referenced in link. In fact I only have only one mysql install directory, I know where that is - what do I need to delete/change ? The instance is configured OK, I ran that as administrator and it is listed in services, but the service itself fails to start Any tips, other than going over to postgresql ?

  • Hebrew (utf8) characters in windows cmd console

    I previously asked this Q: utf8 hebrew on mysql console on debian (via putty on windows) And managed to get it working by starting mysql with --default-character-set=utf8 and setting putty to show utf8 as well. Now I need to do the same but on a windows server. The data is again the same but when I start mysql with --default-character-set=utf8 it I see multuple characters where I am supposed to see hebrew. I think the problem is with the set up of windows cmd console that it does not properly display utf8. any ideas ?

  • Network architecture when using Rackspace's Cloud

    I'm planning on launching a web application soon, and have decided on using Rackspace's Cloud offering with Debian. I'm not expecting that much traffic to start, but would rather get the architecture correct now even with the small VPSs. The thing I'm not quite sure about is how many VPSs I should get. At a minimum, I know I'll want three VPSs: Two Apache webservers One server for MySQL I'd also like: Nginx load balancer MySQL replication memcached I'm not sure where those last three processes should be running. Can the load balancer run on the same machine as the MySQL slave, or should they each run on their own machine? Does memcached run alongside the webservers or on different machines?

  • How to configure mysqldump to avoid max_allowed_packet error

    Honestly it baffles me that with a completely default installation of mysql if I run mysqldump with default parameters it generates a SQL file that can't be imported into another completely default installation of mysql. From what I can gather it's got something to do with the max_allowed_packet setting and/or the net_buffer_length setting. I've read a bunch about this, and tried tweaking it a bunch of ways on both the export and import sides, but it still doesn't work. I keep getting the packet too big error on import. From everything I've read, here's my best guess: mysqldump --net_buffer_length=50000 myschema > giant_file.sql Because I read here that mysqldump refers to max_allowed_packet as net_buffer_length because ... uhh ... anyway. Then to import mysql --max_allowed_packet=999999 myschema < giant_file.sql But this still doesn't work. How do I export / import the database???

    I'm reading up how to interface ProFTPd with MySQL for an implementation I'm working on, I noticed it seems like all the example code or instructions I see have the user login field in MySQL set as "varchar(30)". I don't see anything saying there's a limit to the field length for ProFTPd, but I wanted to check around anyway. The project this setup is going to get mixed into was planning to have their universal usernames support "varchar(255)". Can I use that safely? or is there an FTP limitation elsewhere I'm missing? Running ProFTPd 1.3.4a(custom compiled), MySQL 5.1.54(ubuntu repos)

    Sorry for a silly question I am still newbie to Ganglia. In Ganglia I control few important metrics for mysql (seconds behind master and etc.). In addition I have few bunches of mysql servers (every bunch has it's own tasks, but all of the bunches should be tested for seconds behind master). I am interested if this possible to show all metrics on the one page with different colors to different bunches. Right now in metric "seconds behind master" I see all mysql servers with metric "seconds behind master" with colors to different states (red is critical, gray is ok). Can I set a color to a graph according to it's bunch? Thanks!

  • Lingering database-connections from Feng Office

    I've installed Feng Office on our main server which is working perfectly so far. Unfortunately it seems like there's a problem with the connection to the MySQL-Database. While the connection itself works fine, it's the reuse/pooling of connections which seems to be bugged. There are lingering/sleeping connections to the server from Feng Office which won't close and don't get reused after some time (120 seconds). Of course those lingering processes/connections are piling up pretty fast. I've found a thread at the forums about this behavior, but the suggested fix is already applied (by default). I'm sure this is just a configuration issue, but I'm a little clue less because Feng is besides a MediaWiki, a DokuWiki and homebrewed PHP applications the only one with this issue. The setup is a Microsoft Windows 2003 Server with MySQL 5.0.26 and Apache 2.2. Where can I start looking for clues why this is happening and how do I get rid of lingering MySQL-Connections?

Even in low user base 10-20 i am encountering CPU overload which is quite obvious here. As, i am new to Amazon EC2 can somebody suggest me how to scale up my architecture according to traffic use? should i use separate micro instances for every app server(openfire,mysql,tomcat6) should i use single small or medium instance for whole server stack. Some factors in context: high reliance on MYSQL high memory usage due to file transfer web-application interacting with other Amazon service like S3,SES
