  • 'Content' is NOT 'Text' in XAML

    One of the key concepts in XAML is that the Content property of a XAML control like a Button or ComboBoxItem does not have to contain just textual data. In fact, Content can be almost any other XAML that you want. To illustrate here is a simple example of how to spruce up your Button controls in Silverlight. Here is some very simple XAML that consists of two Button controls within a StackPanel on a Silverlight User Control. <StackPanel>  <Button Name="btnHome"          HorizontalAlignment="Left"          Content="Home" />  <Button Name="btnLog"          HorizontalAlignment="Left"          Content="Logs" /></StackPanel> The XAML listed above will produce a Silverlight control within a Browser that looks like Figure 1.   Figure 1: Normal button controls are quite boring. With just a little bit of refactoring to move the button attributes into Styles, we can make the buttons look a little better. I am a big believer in Styles, so I typically create a Resources section within my user control where I can factor out the common attribute settings for a particular set of controls. Here is a Resources section that I added to my Silverlight user control. <UserControl.Resources>  <Style TargetType="Button"         x:Key="NormalButton">    <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment"            Value="Left" />    <Setter Property="MinWidth"            Value="50" />    <Setter Property="Margin"            Value="10" />  </Style></UserControl.Resources> Now back in the XAML within the Grid control I update the Button controls to use the Style attribute and have each button use the Static Resource called NormalButton. <StackPanel>  <Button Name="btnHome"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}"          Content="Home" />  <Button Name="btnLog"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}"          Content="Logs" /></StackPanel> With the additional attributes set in the Resources section on the Button, the above XAML will now display the two buttons as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2: Use Resources to Make Buttons More Consistent Now let’s re-design these buttons even more. Instead of using words for each button, let’s replace the Content property to use a picture. As they say… a picture is worth a thousand words, so let’s take advantage of that. Modify each of the Button controls and eliminate the Content attribute and instead, insert an <Image> control with the <Button> and the </Button> tags. Then you can have an image and text within the button. <StackPanel>  <Button Name="btnHome"          ToolTipService.ToolTip="Home"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}">    <StackPanel>      <Image Style="{StaticResource NormalImage}"              Source="Images/Home.jpg" />      <TextBlock Text="Home"                  Style="{StaticResource NormalTextBlock}" />    </StackPanel>  </Button>  <Button Name="btnLog"          ToolTipService.ToolTip="Logs"          Style="{StaticResource NormalButton}">    <StackPanel>      <Image Style="{StaticResource NormalImage}"              Source="Images/Log.jpg" />      <TextBlock Text="Logs"                  Style="{StaticResource NormalTextBlock}" />    </StackPanel>  </Button></StackPanel> You will need to add one more resource for the TextBlock control too. <Style TargetType="TextBlock"        x:Key="NormalTextBlock">  <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment"          Value="Center" /></Style> All of the above will now produce the following:   Figure 4: Add multiple controls to the content to make your buttons even more interesting. Summary While this is a simple example, you can see how XAML Content has great flexibility. You could add a MediaElement control as the content of a Button and play a video within the Button. Not that you would necessarily do this, but it does work. What is nice about adding different content within the Button control is you still get the Click event and other attributes of a button, but it does necessarily look like a normal button.   • Fade out Label / Button / Status Bar with GTK

    What is the easiest way to fade out and fade in elements in Python / GTK 3? Coming from webdevelopment, my initial take on this problem was to call c = widget.get_style_context(), c.remove_class('visible'), c.add_class('invisible') but that didn't work out (Do I have to call something like "redraw"?) I also added a transition to the GTK CSS. Thanks, Wolf EDIT: I might specify what I would like to achieve: I have this "statusbar" which is just a vertical container on my app (like in the screenshot on top of this page http://uberwriter.wolfvollprecht.de/). If the mouse is not moving, I want to fade all that stuff out (also to preserve computing power // no recalculation of word- and char count) and to minimize "distraction"). I already found the appropriate event to listen to (motion-notify-event), so now I only need to add a simple fade out and a timeout. If someone can point me to a solution, be it with clutter or cairo, I would be very happy.

My problem is that if I make double Tap on ground then it’s fine but if I make first Tap on ground and second Tap in Air then Player gain more height then usual As in image 1. I want to Make my jump like in Image 2, No matter from which point user gives second Tap, player Always get a specific height. I Used both Impulse and Linear velocity to make Jump but my problem did not solved.

  • Button postion not changing in View Controller. (Xcode)

    I have a View controller in xcode 6 (beta 5). I have put 4 buttons in it through the Object library in a .xib. But when i open the app in iOS simulator the buttons are the right y position but not correct x-position()they are on the right edge. No matter where i move them in the xib they only change y-position. I even moved them using the size inspector, but to no avail. How can i actually move them?

  • Blinking power button

    A friend asked me to look at his Gateway DX4640 desktop. When he presses the power button, power goes to the mobo (NVIDIA nForce 630i MCP73PV, GeForce 7100 chipset) and the CPU fan starts spinning. The power button slowely blinks on and off (blue) and the screen briefly says no signal and then goes black. And nothing else; no post code beeps. My initial two conjectures were: 1. Vista was stuck in sleep/hibernation mode, or 2. A power off had left the mobo in a bad state. The fix for both is to: a) Unplug the AC power cord b) hold the power button for 30 second to fully discharge the mobo It didn't help. I left the system unplugged from AC power for an hour. No change. I am out of ideas. Has anybody seen anything like this before? What does a blinking blue power button mean? How can I get more data points to guide trouble shooting? --Thank you, --Mike

  • Difference left/right super button

    When I press my left super key the gnome shell appears and when I press the right super key it does not. Moreover pressing right super + T does open a terminal at once, but when using left super I have to press the t twice, when I press the t only once it is similar to just pressing the t without holding super left. This last point also occurs with other shortcuts that I defined (like super+L, super+E), but not with super+up/down/left/right. What I want is to press either super key to get the gnome shell and to use either super key in combination with T to open a terminal immediately (and similar with other shortcuts). I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and the gnome 3 shell.

    Since i upgraded to kubuntu 14.04, my Eclipse crashes at different situations. Mostly i can "simulate" it when going to project properties and press ok. Then it always crashes.     I recently migrated my website from xhtml transitional to html5. Specifically so that I could make use of valid block level anchor tags. <a><div /></a>. When running validation I encountered the following error: Bad value publisher for attribute rel on element link: Keyword publisher is not registered.   • Diagnosing Bootstrap 3 Glyphicon Button Icons Not Showing

    I have a glyphicons in Bootstrap 3. They work very nicely here: latest Chrome latest Firefox latest Safari latest Explorer latest Android At one facility, the glyphicons don't show. The buttons come up blank. How do I troubleshoot? They are security sensitive there. I don't have systems or network access.. and am not in a position to request that. Troubleshooting with advanced tools isn't going to happen. Here's what I have access to: Internet Explorer 9 Behind a very secure firewall Sometimes, I think the glyphs not showing is the IE 9.. but my code should be addressing that. Sometimes, I think their firewall is blocking the CDN. Can I enter a URL into a browser to test if the CDN is there? Sometimes, I think my FB share and like buttons upset this facilty's firewall, and they tie the whole thing down. Any suggestions at how I begin to research this? Or maybe you have an outright idea for IE 9 and glyphs (though my code is very-very close to the demo's which work).

  • ubiquity "hangs" after hitting first "forward" button

    I've been trying to install Ubuntu but, no matter what I try (wifi connected, wifi not connected, disk blank, disk prepartitioned...), it just "hangs" at the first window (pick your language) with a non-stop hourglass after hitting "forward". This is on a Stinkpad T42. Shouldn't ubiquity at least tell me what's going on? I tried to find a log but /var/log/installer* isn't present. Initiating ubiquity from command line doesn't provide any debug info either. Even when using --debug or other combinations.

  • Hobbyist programmer releasing software with a donate button

    I'd like to start this with a disclaimer that I realize that a full, clear-cut answer should be sought out by a lawyer. I am more so curious about what other users of this community have done Say that I had a small program that I had developed for fun, that I wished to release to the public. I'll drop it out there with one of the various open-source licenses, and probably put it up on SourceForge or Git in case if anybody should ever want to fork/maintain/check out code. Also say that I wanted to accept donations for the project, with absolutely 0 expectation that people will send any money. However, if somebody donated in order to buy me a beer or a pizza for the work that they liked, I would accept gladly. The question, then, is what are the general requirements of accepting donations? Can it go into a personal account with no questions asked as a "gift," or do I need to setup an LLC to avoid any taxation issues? (US citizen here). Again, yes this should be lawyer discussed, but I also know that many projects that I see have the ability to donate, and assume that the community probably has a decent amount of experience in this regard.

  • Dash home button in unity5 of new ubuntu 12.04lts

    If I click on the dash home icon nothings come up. It's as if it's not responding, but just above the dash home icon, I can see close, minimize and restore buttons. I have tried all the links present in this forum, so please don't suggest these: sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity unity --reset pkill -f unity-applications-daemon None of those worked. I am facing this problem after upgrading to 12.04 LTS.

    I have a bilingual site in Drupal. The problem is that I hate the language switch block taking up so much space (sometimes the only thing in the sidebar is the language switch block). So what I would love to have is language switch menu item, that would point to the other language (other then the current one).   • Are sequence designs appropriate for GUI button design?

    Specifically, I have numerous buttons that will be changing color based on state information from operator input and input from various subcomponents and sensors. I would like to use UML or some other type of design diagrams to be able to capture the color transition. Some folks have suggested sequence diagrams, but I haven't been able to find any good examples that show how to incorporate this design artifact. I would really like to head in this direction to help developers. Are sequence designs in fact, appropriate, or is there a more appropriate design?

  • Adobe Flex Transparency not working on Button icon

    I am fairly inexperienced with Flex, but my googling has retrieved nothing to suggest this is an obvious question. I have an mx:Button with an Icon on it that is a png file with a transparent background, as below, however the transparency is not working, and the icon is painted with a white background. <mx:Button label="Button" icon="@Embed(source='images/clearTracks.png')"/> I have seen how to use a ByteArrayImage to get a transparency working on an image, but this technique doesn't appear available for a button's icon property.
