  • Help with this compile error

    - by Scott
    I just picked up an old project and I'm not sure what the following error could mean. g++ -o BufferedReader.o -c -g -Wall -std=c++0x -I/usr/include/xmms2 -Ijsoncpp/include/json/ -fopenmp -I/usr/include/ImageMagick -I/usr/include/xmms2 -I/usr/include/libvisual-0.4 -D_GNU_SOURCE=1 -D_REENTRANT -I/usr/include/SDL -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_SCRIPT_LIB -DQT_SHARED -I/usr/include/QtCore -I/usr/include/QtGui -I/usr/include/QtScript BufferedReader.cpp In file included from BufferedReader.cpp:23: /usr/include/string.h:36:42: error: missing binary operator before token "(" In file included from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/cwchar:47, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/bits/postypes.h:42, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/iosfwd:42, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/ios:39, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/istream:40, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/sstream:39, from BufferedReader.cpp:24: At line 24 of BufferedReader.cpp is #include <string.h>. Here's the snippet of code from string.h /* Tell the caller that we provide correct C++ prototypes. */ #if defined __cplusplus && __GNUC_PREREQ (4, 4) //line 36 # define __CORRECT_ISO_CPP_STRING_H_PROTO #endif Does that mean __GNUC_PREREQ isn't defined?

  • Why doesn't TextBlock databinding call ToString() on a property whose compile-time type is an interf

    - by Jay
    This started with weird behaviour that I thought was tied to my implementation of ToString(), and I asked this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2916068/why-wont-wpf-databindings-show-text-when-tostring-has-a-collaborating-object It turns out to have nothing to do with collaborators and is reproducible. When I bind Label.Content to a property of the DataContext that is declared as an interface type, ToString() is called on the runtime object and the label displays the result. When I bind TextBlock.Text to the same property, ToString() is never called and nothing is displayed. But, if I change the declared property to a concrete implementation of the interface, it works as expected. Is this somehow by design? If so, any idea why? To reproduce: Create a new WPF Application (.NET 3.5 SP1) Add the following classes: public interface IFoo { string foo_part1 { get; set; } string foo_part2 { get; set; } } public class Foo : IFoo { public string foo_part1 { get; set; } public string foo_part2 { get; set; } public override string ToString() { return foo_part1 + " - " + foo_part2; } } public class Bar { public IFoo foo { get { return new Foo {foo_part1 = "first", foo_part2 = "second"}; } } } Set the XAML of Window1 to: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <StackPanel> <Label Content="{Binding foo, Mode=Default}"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding foo, Mode=Default}"/> </StackPanel> </Window> in Window1.xaml.cs: public partial class Window1 : Window { public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); DataContext = new Bar(); } } When you run this application, you'll see the text only once (at the top, in the label). If you change the type of foo property on Bar class to Foo (instead of IFoo) and run the application again, you'll see the text in both controls.

  • (gcc) Multi-Dim Array or Double Pointer for Warning-free Compile

    - by paul simmons
    Hi, I have a function, which is called sometimes with regular, sometimes dynamic arrays. If I define the function as function_name(int[10][10] a) and send int** as a parameter, I get a warning. Opposite, if I declare function_name(int** a) and send int[][] as a parameter (after casting) I cannot access to array elements inside function. What is the correctest way?

  • VS2008 project with Entity Framework model results in "always dirty" compile

    - by Jeremy Lew
    In VS 2008, I have a simple .csproj that contains an Entity Framework .edmx (V1) file. Every time I build the project, the output DLL is updated, even though nothing has changed. I have reproduced this in the simplest-possible project (containing one ordinary .cs file and one edmx model). If I remove the edmx model and build repeatedly, the output assembly will not be touched. If I add the edmx model and build repeatedly, the output assembly is modified each time. This is a problem because the real project is a dependency of dozens of other projects and it is wreaking havoc with what times when working in higher layers of the application. Is this a known problem? Any way to fix it? Thanks!

  • javac will not compile enum, ( Windows Sun 1.6 --> OpenJDK 1.6)

    - by avgvstvs
    package com.scheduler.process; public class Process { public enum state { NOT_SUBMITTED, SUBMITTED, BLOCKED, READY, RUNNING, COMPLETED } private state currentState; public state getCurrentState() { return currentState; } public void setCurrentState(state currentState) { this.currentState = currentState; } } package com.scheduler.machine; import com.scheduler.process.Process; import com.scheduler.process.Process.state; public class Machine { com.scheduler.process.Process p = new com.scheduler.process.Process(); state s = state.READY; //fails if I don't also explicitly import Process.state p.setCurrentState(s); //says I need a declarator id after 's'... this is wrong. p.setCurrentState(state.READY); } Modified the example to try and direct to the issue. I cannot change the state on this code. Eclipse suggests importing Process.state like I had on my previous example, but this doesn't work either. This allows state s = state.READY but the call to p.setCurrentState(s); fails as does p.setCurrentState(state.READY);

  • Visual Studio 2010 compile error with std::string?

    - by AJG85
    So this is possibly the strangest thing I've seen recently and was curious how this could happen. The compiler gave me an error saying that std::string is undefined when used as a return type but not when used as a parameter in methods of a class! #pragma once #include <string> #include <vector> // forward declarations class CLocalReference; class CResultSetHandle; class MyClass { public: MyClass() {} ~MyClass {} void Retrieve(const CLocalReference& id, CResultSetHandle& rsh, std::string& item); // this is fine const std::string Retrieve(const CLocalReference& id, CResultSetHandle& rsh); // this fails with std::string is undefined?!?! }; Doing a Rebuild All it still happened I had to choose clean solution and then Rebuild All again after for the universe to realign. While it's resolved for the moment I'd still like to know what could have caused this because I'm at a loss as to why when there should be no conflicts especially when I always use fully qualified names for STL.

  • xcode storyboard reverting in compile

    - by darren
    I started having some very odd behaviour in Xcode 4.5 recently. I made a change to a UITableViewController with static cells but the changes did not appear in the simulator and neither did my code changes. I removed the app from the simulator and ran clean on the project, then started again and all the changes appeared. I made another code change, ran the debugger via simulator and once again I saw my old UITableViewController values and my code changes were absent. This project is using storyboards, but I am not sure if this problem is related to just storyboards given my code changes are reverted as well. I am deeply confused here. Not even clean fixed this issue. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • C# compile error for simple Annual Salary Calculator

    - by Mike Vignapiano
    I am new to C# and trying to create my 1st app. I have 3 errors. The first two say that txtSalary and Salary do not exist. The 3rd says that it cannot convert method group 'ToString' to non-delegate type 'string'. and asks if I intend to invoke the method. Here is what I have: protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { int salary, AnnualHours, Rate; string txtAnnualHours, txtSalary, txtRate; salary = AnnualHours * Rate; txtsalary = int.Parse(Salary); txtAnnualHours = salary.ToString; MessageBox.Show(salary); } According to my book, when you enter numerics in AnnualHours and Rate textbox, when click Button1, these values are converted from string to integers, then multiplied for salary. Then numeric answer converted to string and displayed in messagebox named txtSalary. Please show me what I got wrong because according to the book, I am not missing anything.

  • I asked a question about arrays before, but this one won't compile

    - by unit
    I asked about this array a little while ago, and I can't see what the problem is. Too tired. What have I done wrong? Basically, I am taking a string array and trying to check to see if it contains numbers or an x (ISBN number validation). I want to take the number from a given input (bookNum), check the input, and feed any valid input into a new array (book). At the line 'bookNum.charAt[j]==book[i]' I get the 'not a statement error'. What gives? String[] book = new String [ISBN_NUM]; bookNum.replaceAll("-",""); if (bookNum.length()!=ISBN_NUM) throw new ISBNException ("ISBN "+ bookNum + " must be 10 characters"); for (int i=0;i<bookNum.length();i++) { if (Character.isDigit(bookNum.charAt(i))) bookNum.CharAt[j]==book[i]; j++; if (book[9].isNotDigit()|| book[9]!="x" || book[9]!="X") throw new ISBNException ("ISBN " + bookNum + " must contain all digits" + "or 'X' in the last position");

  • Why does this C program compile?

    - by AdmiralJonB
    I've just come across someone's C code that I'm confused as to why it is compiling. There are two points I don't understand. First, the function prototype has no parameters compared to the actual function definition. Secondly, the parameter in the function definition doesn't have an type. #include <stdio.h> int func(); int func(param) { return param; } int main() { int bla = func(10); printf("%d",bla); } Could someone please explain to me why this works? I've tested it in a couple of compilers and it works fine.

  • C++ compile time polymorphism doubt ?

    - by user313921
    Below program contains two show() functions in parent and child classes, but first show() function takes FLOAT argument and second show() function takes INT argument. .If I call show(10.1234) function by passing float argument, it should call class A's show(float a) function , but it calls class B's show(int b). #include<iostream> using namespace std; class A{ float a; public: void show(float a) { this->a = a; cout<<"\n A's show() function called : "<<this->a<<endl; } }; class B : public A{ int b; public: void show(int b) { this->b = b; cout<<"\n B's show() function called : "<<this->b<<endl; } }; int main() { float i=10.1234; B Bobject; Bobject.show((float) i); return 0; } Output: B's show() function called : 10 Expected output: A's show() function called : 10.1234 Why g++ compiler chosen wrong show() function i.e class B's show(int b) function ?

  • Visual studio 2010 doesn't make the changes when i do a build/compile

    - by Tom
    Ok so i change some code, re-build it and then, say for arguments sake i had a print statement outputting 'test2', well if i change it to 'test3' its still re-producing the old code 'test2'. Ive deleted the debug folder and rebuilt but no good. Then randomly about 10 builds later it will catch up. Ive also closed VS2010 and then re-opened the project but that doesnt help. What can i do as i need to see the changes asap? ps it's definitely the correct file

  • Create Custom Builds of an Xcode Project

    - by macinjosh
    I am going to build a Mac application written in Obj-C with Xcode. For argument's sake let's say it will have 10 optional features. I need a way to enable or disable those features to create custom builds of the application. These builds would be automated (most likely through the Mac OS X Terminal) so I would need a way to state which of these features are enabled/disabled at build time (a configuration file or CLI arguments would be ideal.) So what is the best way to accomplish this? I'm trying to plan this out before I start coding so that there is proper separation in my code base to allow for these features to come and go. Ideally the custom build would only contain compiled code for the features it should have. In other words I don't want to always compile all the features and condition them out at runtime.
