    I currently use a general repositry class that can update only a single table like so public abstract class MyRepository<T> : IRepository<T> where T : class { protected IObjectSet<T> _objectSet; protected ObjectContext _context; public MyRepository(ObjectContext Context) { _objectSet = Context.CreateObjectSet<T>(); _context = Context; } public IQueryable<T> GetAll() { return _objectSet.AsQueryable(); } public IQueryable<T> Find(Expression<Func<T, bool>> filter) { return _objectSet.Where(filter); } public void Add(T entity) { _objectSet.AddObject(entity); _context.ObjectStateManager.ChangeObjectState(entity, System.Data.EntityState.Added); _context.SaveChanges(); } public void Update(T entity) { _context.ObjectStateManager.ChangeObjectState(entity, System.Data.EntityState.Modified); _context.SaveChanges(); } public void Delete(T entity) { _objectSet.Attach(entity); _context.ObjectStateManager.ChangeObjectState(entity, System.Data.EntityState.Deleted); _objectSet.DeleteObject(entity); _context.SaveChanges(); } } For every table class generated by my EDMX designer I create another class like this public class CustomerRepo : MyRepository<Customer> { public CustomerRepo (ObjectContext context) : base(context) { } } for any updates that I need to make to a particular table I do this: Customer CustomerObj = new Customer(); CustomerObj.Prop1 = ... CustomerObj.Prop2 = ... CustomerObj.Prop3 = ... CustomerRepo.Update(CustomerObj); This works perfectly well when I am updating just to the specific table called Customer. Now if I need to also update each row of another table which is a child of Customer called Orders what changes do I need to make to the class MyRepository. Orders table will have multiple records for a Customer record and multiple fields too, say for example Field1, Field2, Field3. So my questions are: 1.) If I only need to update Field1 of the Orders table for some rows based on a condition and Field2 for some other rows based on a different condition then what changes I need to do? 2.) If there is no such condition and all child rows need to be updated with the same value for all rows then what changes do I need to do? Thanks for taking the time. Look forward to your inputs...

    There’s a lot of start page plug-ins for Google Chrome, but if you’re an Ubuntu Forums enthusiast, you might be interested in the powerful UbuntuForums.org Start Page extension. Using the Ubuntu Forums Chrome Start Page Once you’ve installed the extension and opened a new tab, you’ll notice quite a difference from the boring default “New Tab Page”. While you may look at this and wonder if what you see is all that there is to it, there’s actually a lot of hidden customization and functionality. The upper left corner is where you will control the content displayed in the “Ubuntu New Tab Page”. The “Buttons Toolbar” that you see at the top lets you shift between the types of content viewed, from RSS feeds to bookmarks and more. This entire set of links provides direct links to the appropriate section in the Ubuntu Forums. As with the set of links pictured above each of these will open in a new tab when clicked on. There’s even a feature to browse wallpapers from DesktopNexus with categories on the left and pictures to the right. If you want to return to the regular layout you should use the “Start Page Link” highlighted here. Options The options will allow you to customize the colors shown in the “Ubuntu New Tab Page” to create a very nice match to your current browser and/or system theme if desired.   • What causes Multi-Page allocations?

    Writing about changes in the Denali Memory Manager In his last post Rusi mentioned: " In previous SQL versions only the 8k allocations were limited by the ‘max server memory’ configuration option.  Allocations larger than 8k weren’t constrained." In SQL Server versions before Denali single page allocations and multi-Page allocations are handled by different components, the Single Page Allocator (which is responsible for Buffer Pool allocations and governed by 'max server memory') and the Multi-Page allocator (MPA) which handles allocations of greater than an 8K page. If there are many multi-page allocations this can affect how much memory needs to be reserved outside 'max server memory' which may in turn involve setting the -g memory_to_reserve startup parameter. We'll follow up with more generic articles on the new Memory Manager structure, but in this post I want to clarify what might cause these larger allocations. So what kinds of query result in MPA activity? I was asked this question the other day after delivering an MCM webcast on Memory Manager changes in Denali. After asking around our Dev team I was connected to one of our test leads Sangeetha who had tested the plan cache, and kindly provided this example of an MPA intensive query: A workload that has stored procedures with a large # of parameters (say > 100, > 500), and then invoked via large ad hoc batches, where each SP has different parameters will result in a plan being cached for this “exec proc” batch. This plan will result in MPA.   Exec proc_name @p1, ….@p500 Exec proc_name @p1, ….@p500 . . . Exec proc_name @p1, ….@p500 Go   Another workload would be large adhoc batches of the form: Select * from t where col1 in (1, 2, 3, ….500) Select * from t where col1 in (1, 2, 3, ….500) Select * from t where col1 in (1, 2, 3, ….500) … Go  In Denali all page allocations are handled by an "Any size page allocator" and included in 'max server memory'.     So I just created a new widget that would show up in a product page in my site. This widget will show several products similar to the product that is displayed in the current page. The purpose is to help users compare similar products. Let's say in the product page A http://domain/products/A The Similar Products widget will show http://domain/products/B http://domain/products/C http://domain/products/D http://domain/products/E My question is how to track this "Product B page were visited X times from Product A page via Similar Product widget"? (And there is also chance that Product B will show up in the widget on Product C page) I have this idea using the Event feature from Google Analytics. But I'm still not sure if it is or what is the common best practice for this.

    I try to learn how to type fast and have managed to learn a lot. I am quite good at typing english text now. I do a lot of programmation though and if QWERTY seems fitted for english text, it doesn't seem fitted to type Ruby, Python, Javascript, Command Line or C++... I have read plenty of articles and if I respect their guidelines/tips, I am using a lot my right pinky specially to type []{}|\;:'"/?=+ enter delete. As you can see this symbols are the ones which are the most used when you are programming and we are using only one weak finger to reach them. Am I learning wrong? Is there is a way to be more productive? (I don't really want to switch to DVORAK) Have you some experiences/tips to share regarding this issue?     I have a travel website. Just for information purposes, I had put a weather page. Now I realize that this page is increasing my overall bounce rate; because people who are looking for the weather forecast are landing on that page and getting what they want and exiting. What is the safest method to get rid of that page? Would it hurt my google rank if I remove it completely? Or is there a better way to handle this situation? I realize that around 21 percent of my daily hits are on that page. I would have been happy if my aim was to provide weather data for the location; however, my site needs to focus on selling hotels. So I think I need to get rid of this weather page immediately. What do you think?

    In my previous post, I introduced my problem, but I didn’t explain the problem with Entity Framework When you try the solution indicated you will take the following error: LINQ to Entities don’t recognize the method 'System.String Join(System.String, System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[System.String])’ of the method, and this method can’t be translated into a stored expression. The query that produces that error was: 1: var consulta = (from TCabecera cab in 2: contexto_local.TCabecera 3: let Detalle = (from TDetalle detalle 4: in cab.TDetalle 5: select detalle.Nombre) 6: let Nombres = string.Join(",",Detalle ) 7: select new 8: { 9: cab.Campo1, 10: cab.Campo2, 11: Nombres 12: }).ToList(); 13: grid.DataSource=consulta;   Why is this error happening? This error happens when the query couldn’t be translated into T-SQL. Solutions? To quit that error, we need to execute the query on 2 steps: 1: var consulta = (from TCabecera cab in 2: contexto_local.TCabecera 3: let Detalle = (from TDetalle detalle 4: in cab.TDetalle 5: select detalle.Nombre) 6: select new 7: { 8: cab.Campo1, 9: cab.Campo2, 10: Detalle 11: }).ToList(); 12: var consulta2 = (from dato in consulta 13: let Nombes = string.Join(",",dato.Detalle) 14: select new 15: { 16: dato.Campo1, 17: dato.Campo2, 18: Nombres 19: }; 20: grid.DataSource=consulta2.ToList(); Curiously This problem happens with Entity Framework but, the same problem can’t be reproduced on LINQ – To – SQL, that it works fine in one unique step.     On the previous version of Facebook Pages I was able to specify in which language (or even countries) I wanted to publish a post. I've searched a LOT of time everywhere and I do not find anything like that since the timeline has landed on Facebook Pages. Do you know how I could publish something on a Facebook Page but only for ONE language? Because publishing things in several languages could get the "page fans" angry (too many new items that they could not read) and unlike the page. I would really appreciate how to find some language-specific options for new publications on a Facebook Page (I am admin of that page, of course). Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks you
