  • Incompatible classes when loading SWF

    I have two ActionScript 3 projects, game(.swf) and minigame(.swf). At runtime the main game loads the minigame via Loader. I also have a shared library (SWC) of event classes, included by both, which minigame will need to dispatch and game will need to listen to. First: Is this possible this way? Second: What will happen if I compile the minigame, then change the event classes so they're incompatible, then compile the main game. Will Flash crash when trying to load the minigame SWF? (I hope so) Third: And what will happen if I change the event classes, but in a way that preserves interface-level compatibility?

  • Strange Java Coding??? Class in class???

    Hi guys, I got a question about Java coding in general... In some sample codes there are methods and classes declared WITHIN other methods and/or classes.... I've never heard/red about this...what effect does this kind of programming have? Wouldn't it be better to write down classes in a seperate file and methods side by side and not within each other (like every book tells you)? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this kind of programming?   • EF 4.x generated entity classes (POCO) and Map files

    I have an MVC 4 app that I am working on and using the code first implementation except I cheated a bit and created my database first then generated my entity classes (poco) from my database using the EF power tools (reverse engineer). I guess you can say I did database first method but I have no edmx file just the context class and my entity classes (poco) I have a few projects in the works using MVC and EF with pocos but just the one project I used the tool to generate my pocos from the database. My question is about the mapping files that get created when I generate my pocos using the tool. What is the purpose of these Map files? I figured the map files are needed when generating the db from the model like with the true code first method, in my case where I am using a tool to generate my model from the database do the map files have any influence on how my app uses the entity classes?

  • Opinions sought on the best way to organise classes in PHP

    I am pretty much set on using the Java package naming convention of com.website.app.whatever but am unsure about the best way of doing this in PHP. Option 1: Create a directory structure com/ mysite/ myapp/ encryption/ PublicKeyGenerator.class.php Cipher.class.php Xml/ XmlHelper.class.php XmlResponse.class.php Now this is how Java does it, it uses the folders to organize the heirarchy. This is however a little clumsy in PHP because there is no native support for it and when you move things around you break all includes. Option 2 Name classes using a periods for the package, therefore sames are just like in Java but can all be in the same directory making __autoload a breeze. classes/ com.mysite.myapp.encription.PublicKeyGenerator.class.php com.mysite.myapp.encription.Cipher.class.php com.mysite.myapp.xml.XmlHelper.class.php com.mysite.myapp.xml.XmlResponse.class.php The only real disadvantage here is that all the classes are in a single folder which might be confusing for large projects. Opinions sought, which is the best or are there other even better options?

    I'm working on a program in which I want to do something similar to what the Photon Server system does: Offer a common "API" class library, which contains common data classes, enumerations, and interfaces for working with the host program. Have client programs (class libraries) reference this DLL and implement interfaces listed within it. Have the "host" application load built DLL client libraries into separate AppDomains and reference the interfaces that lie within to have polymorphic client code from within a dll file. I have something like this worked out: a class library that contains common code, but I've run into the following question How should I handle static classes? Should I add a method that is called by the host program to synchronize data? How do I keep a static class the same between AppDomains? Should I discard these classes in favor of better interfaces between the code levels? And in general, how do I share data between these loaded AppDomains?

From each one of those derived Classes, there are further more two classes are derived each called ChildClassAA and ChildClassAB[AB stands for Bth Child class from the Ath Class.Lets not really pull our hair on this nomenclature]. Now, ideally, I want to declare a general type as a private member of another Class say IndependentClass which can be initialized during run time as either of the objects of type ClassAor ClassB or ClassC and even the derived classes like ClassAA or ClassAB. I may have something like this: List<BaseClass> list = new List<BaseClass>() { new Class1(1), new Class2(1), new Class1(2), new Class3(1), new Class2(2), new Class4(1), new Class3(2) }; I am trying to use LINQ to semi-sort the list so that the natural order is maintained EXCEPT for certain classes which have base.GroupThisType == true. All classes with GroupThisType should be grouped together at the place that the first class of the same type occurs.   • Get other classes from an element with Jquery

    I am working on a small bit of script that will allow for easy and flexible creation of buttons. My buttons are made of three parts, a left, a right and a streched middle piece. There are three different sizes and three different colours of each. I have written the code that resizes the button to fit the text. Now I am looking to add the ability to easily set the colour and size. I was thinking of using three classes something like <div class="button blue big"> My script already loops through the button classes using each. Now I need to find out what other classes are set and adjust the pictures and dimentions used to fit. So how can I find out what other class selectors an element has? Also I am fairly new to jquery/javascript so I am wondering if storing the design as class selectors is the best way.

    So, let's say we have classes A, B and C and I want to inherit from all those classes and have another class called D, it can be done using implements and interfaces in Java. But let's say we don't want to use this simple solution, would you be able to inherit class D from classes A, B and C in any other way in Java? (This question might be related to design patterns, it has been brought up after challenging my colleague at lunch discussing design patterns) I don't think there is any other way to have multiple inheritance in Java other than using multiple interfaces.

  • Similar Sub-Classes

    Lets say I have a class A that is fairly simple like this - public class A{ private int randomField = 0; protected int key; protected double dmg; } Now I want to write a number of sub-classes that inherit the protected fields and only differ based on the initial values that are assigned to those fields - for example, if I wrote two subclasses B and C, the only difference between those two sub-classes would be that the values key and dmg would have different values. They would share a method, set, which would be exactly the same, in that it would affect the same variable. I find when I'm writing these sub-classes I'm repeating myself, as I just change the constructor to set different initial values to key and dmg, and simply copy and paste the set method. Is there a 'good' way to do this?

    I am new to both Chef and Ruby and I am implementing some scripts to learn them. Now I am facing the problem of how to organize my code: I have created a class in the library directory and I have used a custom namespace to maintain order. This is a simplified example of my file: # ~/chef-repo/cookbooks/mytest/libraries/MyTools.rb module Chef::Recipe::EP class MyTools def self.print_something( text ) puts "This is my text: #{text}" end def self.copy_file( dir, file ) cookbook_file "#{dir}/#{file}" do source "#{dir}/#{file}" end end end end From my recipe I call both methods: # ~/chef-repo/cookbooks/mytest/recipes/default.rb EP::MyTools.print_something "Hello World!" EP::MyTools.copy_file "/etc", "passwd" print_something works fine, but with copy_file I get this error: undefined method `cookbook_file' for Chef::Recipe::EP::FileTools:Class It's clear to me that I don't know how to create libraries in Chef or I don't know some basic assumptions. Can anyone help me, please? I am looking for a solution of this problem (organize my code, libraries, use resources in classes) or, better, a good Chef documentation as I find the documentation very deficient in clarity and disorganized so that research through it is a pain.

  • Git subtree not properly using .gitignore when doing a partial clone

    I am a graduate student with many scripts, bibliography data in bibtex, thesis draft in latex, presentations in open office, posters in scribus, and figures and result data. I would like to put everything in one project under version control. Then when I need to work on a portion such as the bibliography data, I would like to check that subdirectory out, modify it as necessary and merge it back.I would like the ability to check out one version to my home computer, and a different one to my work computer and make changes to each independently and eventually merge them back. I would also like to be able to check out a piece of code from this big project and import it with versioning into a separate project. If I may changes I'd like to be able to merge them back to the original project.   • Partial Trust in WPF 4

    I've started a new project in WPF 4 (.NET 4) and trying to see if I can run it in xbap mode. I need to run the application in Full Trust with the new mode made available in .NET 4 which asks the end user if the full trust application should be run. For example: n univ av should match N University Ave king blv should match Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd ne 9th should match both NE 9th St and 9th St NE Bonus points (JK) for a "replace" regex that wraps the matched text with <b> tags.

    trying to set default value in the people picker with an update panel. On a test page without an update panel, the code PeopleEditor1.CommaSeparatedAccounts = "domain\\user.account"; works just fine. As soon as I add an update panel around that people editor the picker's text area gets cleared out and future calls to the above snippet are ignored.   • empty response body in ajax (or 206 Partial Content)

    Hi guys, I'm feeling completely stupid because I've spent two hours solving task which should be very simple and which I solved many times before. But now I'm not even sure in which direction to dig. I fail to fetch static content using ajax from local servers (Apache and Mongrel). I get responses 200 and 206 (depending on the server), empty response text (although Content-Length header is always correct), firebug shows request in red. Javascript is very generic, I'm getting same results even here: http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/tryit.asp?filename=tryajax_first (just change document location to 'http://localhost:3000/whatever') So, it's probably not the cause. Well, now I'm out of ideas. I can also post http headers, if it'll help. Thanks!     Hi all, I'm trying to generate JAXB classes from the Clickatell wsdl: You can find the wsdl definition here it quite large: http://api.clickatell.com/soap/webservice.php?WSDL When trying to generate java classes from this Wsdl i got the following errors: [ERROR] undefined simple or complex type 'SOAP-ENC:Array' [ERROR] undefined attribute 'SOAP-ENC:arrayType' I hope someone can help me out.   • Regex - find and replace complete string occurrences only (not partial matches)

    I'm not very good at regex but maybe there's a simple way to achieve this task. I'm given a string like "bla @a bla @a1 bla" I'm also given pairs like {"a", "a2"} , {"a1", "a13"}, and I need to replace @a with @a2 for the first pair, and @a1 with @a13 for the second one. The problem is when i use String.Replace and look for @a, it also replaces @a1 but it should not. I need it to completely match @a and avoid partially matching it in other places. Note: the given string could also be brackets, commas, dots and so on. However, pairs will always be [a-z]*[0-9]+ Help me with regex replace, please. Cheers

    I have refactored some UIView sub-classes into a static library. However, when using Interface Builder to create view components for a project that uses the static library I find that it is unaware of the library classes. What do I need to do to make the class interfaces visible to Interface Builder? Update: The correct answer refers to dragging the headers into the 'XIB browser'.   • What's the convention for extending Linq with set based helper operations

    Hi All I might be vaguing out here but I'm looking for a nice place to put set based helper operations in linq so I can do things like; db.Selections.ClearTemporary() which does something like db.DeleteAllOnSubmit(db.Selections.Where(s => s.Temporary)) Since I can figure out how to extend Table<Selection> the best I can do is create a static method in partial class of Selection (similar to Ruby) but I have to pass in the datacontext like; Selection.ClearTemporary(MyDataContext) This kind of sucks because I have two conventions for doing set based operations and I have to pass the data context to the static class. I've seen other people recommending piling helper methods into a partial of the datacontext like; myDataContext.ClearTemporarySelections(); But I feel this makes the dc a dumping ground for in-cohesive operations. Surely I'm missing something. I hope so. What's the convention? TIA
