  • Azure website that talks to third party services

    I have website that crawls data from many third party services when user browse to webpage. This can be really slow because I hit third party server and process returned data before showing it to user. I am hosting website on Azure (shared mode). I am thinking to improve my implementation. Here is what I am thinking... Run a service that crawls data from third party services, process it and then store it in database. when user browse to my site, my site pulls data from database and display them to user. But above solution is not clear to me. Should I have normal service or wcf service? If wcf service then should website talk to database or wcf service (that can access data from database)? If normal service then how can I deploy on Azure?

  • Website with over 1 million posts with not much textual content

    I've made a website which crawls files from all over the Internet and I feel like Google will ban me if I sent it sitemaps which contain all of these pages (1m+), because they contain only the file name/size/no of downloads and the download link(s). I'm considering this thought because I've made another website like this in the past and Google banned me after one week with the reason: "spam", even it was not (maybe somebody falsely reported me?!). Does someone have an idea about how to keep Google form banning my website? I've seen several other sites like mine and they don't get banned or... anything. And also, should I sent the sitemap or wait until Google indexes every page as it finds them? Thanks in advance :)

    I have a question related to mobile compatible websites, I have seen two type of websites One in which they adopt traditional website look and adjust website according to mobile screen, if they have lot of information which can not be adjust according to screen then they expand the height of page, so that user can scroll the page to see more information... In the second approach they used native application look means use navigation-bar, tab-bar, tool-bar, scroll-view just like in native applications. Height and width of page adjust according to screen size, if they have more information then they use scroll-view etc... My question is: which approach is better then other, in which approach you feel more comfortable to use website.

  • AJAX spreadsheet editor interfaced to own website

    My website has records that are tables. I would like for my users to be able to edit these records in an easy way. Currently they download a .csv-file, edit it in their favourite spreadsheet, and upload it again. But this often fails (they upload in wrong format or edit fields that they are not supposed to touch). I would therefore like to present the users with an editor directly on the website. So just like you can have WYSIWYG editors in CMSes for text I would like to have it for spreadsheets. One solution would be to interface my website with GoogleDoc and have the users edit the files using GoogleDoc's spreadsheet, and some how get the sheet back when they are done, but I do not know if this is possible at all.

    I am looking for theoretical resources (books, tutorials, etc.) to learn about making sound statistical inferences given (plenty of) multivariate website conversion data. I'm after the math involved, and cannot find any good non-marketing stuff on the web. The sort of questions I want to answer: how much impact does a single variable (e.g. color of text) have? what is the correlation between variables? what type of distribution is used for modelling (Gaussian, Binomial, etc.)? When using statistics to analyze results - what should be considered as a random variable - the web-page element that gets different variations or the binary conversion-or-no-conversion outcome of an impression? There's plenty of information about different website optimization testing methods and their benefits\pitfalls, plenty of information about multivariate statistics in general, do you guys know of resources that discuss statistics in this specific context of website optimization ?     I've got 300+ win7 clients I need to deploy WPA2 Personal PSK on. I can use a GPO to deploy the SSID information on the clients which is good but not the PSK. Is there a clean/easy way to script it so the PSK can be entered on the machines? If possible I don't want to give the PSK to the end users.

    When I create and store macros in Excel 2007 using the Personal file in the XLstart folder then open and go to close Excel using the close buttom in the upper right hand corner I now have to click it twice to completely close Excel however if I use the Excel Exit button by clicking on the Office 2007 button first Excel will close on one. Is there away I can store macros for use with all workbooks I open with Excel and be able to close on one from the close button in the upper right hand corner after saving the current workbook I have be working on?

  • Can No Longer Find Firefox Spell Check Personal Database in Firefox 3

    I have Ubuntu Linux 8.04 LTS with Firefox 3.6.3. Unfortunately it is super easy to accidentally click Add To Dictionary on a word you do not want added into one's personal dictionary used in Firefox. How do I remove the word 'intsead' out of it? I tried some tutorials on the web that said to find ~/.mozilla/*.default/persdict.dat, but I could not see one. As well, others have complained that this file no longer exists in Firefox 3.

    Since some reinstalls my Sygate Personal Firewall is beginning to make trouble: It loooves to fully block/extremely delay POST HTTP requests and some random sites in general.   • Custom/personal dyndns solution?

    Hey: I can't think of how to make this work, but it seems like something that should be doable.. I currently own my own domain, and have been using dyndns.com's "custom DNS" to allow me to redirect 'example.com' to my website at home, which is on a dynamic IP. I've now switched over to a VPS solution which hosts my website and allows me root access to a box (me likey), which will now host "example.com" on a static IP. My question is, is it possible for me to somehow make "home.example.com" route to my box at home? Is there any software available that could automate updates to the DNS for this? Ideally I'd like not to pay a service if possible, but if that's the only way then I suppose I'll have to go that way. Thanks!

  • How can I easily make printer-friendly pages of any website?

    I tried printing out a short story from http://www.americanliterature.com and it came out with huge margins. The page is set up as a table with 3 columns. The left and right ones have space for ads or menus, and the middle one has the text. When I print it out it makes all the columns the same width. Is there any easy way to get a printer-friendly version of the page?

For some weird reason google analytics shows a 49.7 percent bounce rate - I'm quite suprised as to why and how is this possible.     I have noticed dozens of times how tedious some websites are. Therefore, I need a program, plugin for Firefox, or whatever that does the job - to be able to add some sort of checks to specific websites. For example, the program could search for a regexp pattern, and then do an action according to it. For example if I find some language from the wikipedia page, I would like to move or copy it on top of that languages list. The action wouldn't necessarily have to be applied on the regexp it found: it could issue another regexp search, and if it's found, it would do the actions I want, such as delete a block of other piece of HTML, move it, or copy it to another location.

  • How would you use version control for personal data, like a personal website?

    This is more a use-case question, but I generate static files for a personal website using txt2tags. I was thinking of maybe storing this information in a git repository. Normally I use RCS since it's simplest, and I'm only a single user. But there just seems to be a large trend of people using git/svn/cvs/etc. for personal data, and I thought this may also be a good way to at least learn some of the basics of the tool. Obviously most of the learning is done in an environment where you collaborate. So back to the question: how would you use use a version control system such as git, to manage a personal website?
