    We were sent this formula to encrypt a string written in Java: String myInput = "test1234"; MessageDigest md = MessageDigest.getInstance("SHA"); byte[] myD = md.digest(myInput.getBytes()); BASE64Encoder en64 = new BASE64Encoder(); String myOutput = new String ( Java.net.URLEncoder.encode( en64.encode(myD))); // myOutput becomes "F009U%2Bx99bVTGwS3cQdHf%2BJcpCo%3D" Our attempt at writing this in C# is: System.Security.Cryptography.SHA1 sha1 = new System.Security.Cryptography.SHA1CryptoServiceProvider(); string myOutput = HttpUtility.UrlEncode( Convert.ToBase64String( sha1.ComputeHash( ASCIIEncoding.Default.GetBytes(myInput)))); However the output is no where near the same. It doesn't even have percent signs in it. Any chance anyone would know where we are going wrong?

  • .Net long-running scheduled code execution

    I am working on a couple of projects now where I really wish there was some sort of component that I could specify a time and date, and then execute some sort of method. DateTime date = new DateTime(x,x,x,x,x,x); ScheduledMethod sMethod = new ScheduledMethod(date, [method delegate of some sort]); \\at the specified date, sMethod invokes [method delegate of some sort] I know that I can do this with Windows Workflow Foundation as a long running process, which is good for certain things, but are there any alternatives? Workflow is not exactly straight forward with the details, and it would be nice to be able to deploy something more simple for light weight tasks. An example would be a method that checks a network folder once a day and deletes any files that are more than 30 days old. I realize that this may be pie in the sky dreaming, but this would be extremely useful for automating certain mundane maintinence tasks (scheduled sql operations, file system cleansing, routine email sending, etc.). It does not necessarily have to be .Net, but that is where I am coming from. Any ideas?

  • Which is faster for large "for" loop: function call or inline coding?

    Hi, I have programmed an embedded software (using C of course) and now I'm considering ways to improve the running time of the system. The most important single module in my system is one very large nested for loop module. That module consists of two nested for loops that loops max 122500 times. That's not very much yet, but the problem is that inside that nested for loop I have a function call to a function that is in another source file. That specific function consists mostly of two another nested for loops which loops always 22500 times. So now I have to make a function call 122500 times. I have made that function that is to be called a lot lighter and shorter (yet still works as it should) and now I started to think that would it be faster to rip off that function call and write that process directly inside those first two for loops? The processor in that system is ARM7TDMI and its frequency is 55MHz. The system itself isn't very time critical so it doesn't have to be real time capable. However the faster it can process its duties the better. Also would it be also faster to use while loops instead of fors? And any piece of advice about how to improve the running time is appreciated. -zaplec

The first option is awkward to read but more concise, while the second one is clear in intent, but verbose. Which option do you prefer in terms of readability?

    Hi, I'm a new poster in stackoverflow. The community seems really nice so I'll go ahead and post my question. I'm trying to style a asp.net MVC2 form so that instead of having all the fields on a strait line, I would like to have it like so: Label: Text field Label: Text field I know you could do that with a table but I would like to use CSS to accomplish that. I know a little bit about css but not enough to figure out what to do. The only thing I came close to was to but my fields as a unorder list then styling the li item. Thank you for your help!

  • Apache ReWriteEngine throwing 500 Internal Server Error for too many internal redirects... why?!?!?!

    I'm trying to implement a new ReWrite rule on my local dev machine. I have 13 rules set up already, and all work fine (even as of this writing). However, for some reason the newest one is throwing me 500 Internal Server Errors. The ReWrite rule is: RewriteRule stuff/public_html/vault/mystuff/view/(.*) /stuff/public_html/vault/mystuff/view/index.php?stuff=$1 RewriteRule stuff/public_html/vault/mystuff/view/(.*)/ /stuff/public_html/vault/mystuff/view/index.php?stuff=$1 Checked my apache logs and got this: [Thu Jan 13 22:07:43 2011] [error] [client ::1] mod_rewrite: maximum number of internal redirects reached. Assuming configuration error. Use 'RewriteOptions MaxRedirects' to increase the limit if neccessary., referer: http://localhost:8888/stuff/public_html/vault/mystuff/all/index.php?curr=7 On the script I am trying to redirect to view/index.php?stuff=$1, there is nothing that even remotely resembles a redirect of any kind. I do have a very, very basic session verifier being called at the top of the landing script, which is as follows: //Start session session_start(); //Check whether the session variable SESS_MEMBER_ID is present or not if(!isset($_SESSION['SESS_MEMBER_ID']) || (trim($_SESSION['SESS_MEMBER_ID']) == '')) { header("location: ".$root_http.""); exit(); } However, when I access the page directly, it acts as it should, and there is no redirect. All of my other ReWrite rules and their corresponding landing pages are set up the exact same way. This is blowing my mind. Any help, PLEASE!?

My question is how do you distinguish between one and the other? How do you figure out if you've over thought the solution? How do you stop yourself from throwing away truly clever solutions, thinking they were "clever"?

    I use a legacy library that writes logs using log4j. My default log4j.properties file directs the log to the console, but in some specific functions of my main program, I would like to disable logging altogether (from all classes). I tried this: Logger.getLogger(BasicImplementation.class.getName()).setLevel(Level.OFF); where "BasicImplementation" is one of the main classes that does logging, but it didn't work - the logs are still written to the console.   • WPF with code only

    I've seen a lot of questions about the merits of WPF here, and essentially every answer says it's the bee's knees, but essentially every answer also talks about things like XAML, in many cases graphic designers and Expression Blend etc. My question is, is it worth getting into WPF if you're a solo coder working in C# only? Specifically, I don't have a graphic designer, nor any great talent in that area myself; I don't use point-and-click tools; I write everything in C#, not XML. Winforms works fine in those conditions. Is the same true of WPF, or does it turn out that important functions can only be done in XAML, the default settings aren't intended for actual use and you have to have a graphic designer on the team to make things look good, etc., and somebody in my position would be better off to stick to Winforms?

    I am expecting output to be an array list filled with all items as "thought" but instead, every time i add a value into arraylist, the previous value in list also gets update with new, hence resulting in duplicates.
