• SUSE 12.1 Apache startup after oci8 installation

  I have got a virtual server running opensuse 11.4 with apache, php, oracle instantclient, and oci installed through pecl. The steps it took for me to have it up and running on 11.4 were: # Install instantclient rpm -Uvh oracle-instantclient11.2-basic-11.2.0.2.0.x86_64.rpm rpm -Uvh oracle-instantclient11.2-devel-11.2.0.2.0.x86_64.rpm # Install OCI8 through pecl pecl install oci8 # add oci8 to modules vi /etc/php5/conf.d/oci8.ini extension=oci8.so # add LD_LIBRARY_PATH to apache vi /etc/sysconfig/apache2 # add to bottom of script export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client64/lib" # restart Apache /etc/init.d/apache2 restart Celebrating the same procedure on a fresh installation of OpenSUSE 12.1 results in apache throwing the following message at startup: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib64/php5/extensions/oci8.so' - libnnz11.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 I can't get any explanation, why it is working for 11.4 and in 12.1 it stops working.   Edit: I suppose instead of the long explanation below I might also ask: Sending -setNeedsDisplay to an instance of CAEAGLLayer does not cause the layer to redraw (i.e., -drawInContext: is not called). Instead, I get this console message: <GLLayer: 0x4d500b0>: calling -display has no effect. Is there a way around this issue? Can I invoke -drawInContext: when -setNeedsDisplay is called? Long explanation below: I have an OpenGL scene that I would like to animate using Core Animation animations. Following the standard approach to animate custom properties in a CALayer, I created a subclass of CAEAGLLayer and defined a property sceneCenterPoint in it whose value should be animated. Can anybody confirm that? Is there a way around it? Or can I not use the technique I laid out above? This would mean I would have to implement the animations manually in the OpenGL renderer (which is possible but not as elegant IMO).

• How to install Windows 7 onto software RAID-0

  I recently got a new laptop (Asus G73JH-A2) which has two identical hard drives in it. Unfortunately the motherboard does not have a RAID controller. What I would like to do is run the drives in a RAID-0 configuration to improve performance (plus get the extra capacity on one partition). I would like Windows installed onto the striped volume (RAID 0). I have spent some time using diskpart to create a striped volume across the two drives, however when I go to install windows and select the volume it will not let me select 'Next' giving the error "Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition contains one or more dynamic volumes that are not supported for installation." I'm hoping theres a step that I am missing that will allow me to install windows on a striped volume. Any ideas?

• Pylons FormEncode @validate decorator pass parameters into re-render action

  I am attempting to use the validate decorator in Pylons with FormEncode and I have encountered an issue. I am attempting to validate a form on a controller action that requires parameters, and if the validation fails, the parameters aren't passed back in when the form is re-rendered. Here's an example. def question_set(self, id): c.question_set = meta.Session.query(QuestionSet).filter_by(id=id).first() c.question_subjects = meta.Session.query(QuestionSubject).order_by(QuestionSubject.name).all() return render('/derived/admin/question_set.mako') This is the controller action that contains my form. The form will add questions to an existing question set, which is identified by id. My add question controller action looks like this: @validate(schema=QuestionForm(), form='question_set', post_only=True) def add_question(self): stuff... Now, if the validation fails FormEncode attempts to redisplay the question_set form, but it does not pass the id parameter back in, so the question set form will not render. Is it possible to pass the id back in with the @validate decorator, or do I need to use a different method to achieve what I am attempting to do?

• Delphi connection to OpenEdge Progress-4GL Database

  Folks: Has anyone had success connecting to a Progress-4GL database with Delphi?   I've been unable to establish any connection with the ODBC driver provided by the vendor (Progress OpenEdge 10.1C Driver). I've entered (what I believe are) the right parameters, but keep on getting an error whenever I test the connection: "[DataDirect][ODBC Progress OpenEdge Wire Protocol driver] Socket closed." Background: I've been tasked to re-design a 13-year-old application, but the original programmer did not provide any supporting documents, passwords, configuration setup, etc. (I'm on my own)!   To make things worse, online help and useful documentation about Progress is scarce (I had never heard about this database until now). I want to examine the existing data, maybe create an ERD to familiarize myself with the schema, but I can't even access the data outside of the OpenEdge code. Any help is appreciated!

• index help for a MySQL query using greater-than operator and ORDER BY

  I have a table with at least a couple million rows and a schema of all integers that looks roughly like this: start stop first_user_id second_user_id The rows get pulled using the following queries: SELECT * FROM tbl_name WHERE stop >= M AND first_user_id=N AND second_user_id=N ORDER BY start ASC SELECT * FROM tbl_name WHERE stop >= M AND first_user_id=N ORDER BY start ASC I cannot figure out the best indexes to speed up these queries. The problem seems to be the ORDER BY because when I take that out the queries are fast. I've tried all different types of indexes using the standard index format: ALTER TABLE tbl_name ADD INDEX index_name (index_col_1,index_col_2,...) And none of them seem to speed up the queries. Does anyone have any idea what index would work? Also, should I be trying a different type of index? I can't guarantee the uniqueness of each row so I've avoided UNIQUE indexes. Any guidance/help would be appreciated. Thanks!

• DB structure for Twitter home/Facebook wall?

  Basically a live feed of all your friends' recent posts. In a stupid sort of approach I think I'd start by building a query like: SELECT * FROM tblposts WHERE userid=friend_id_1OR userid=friend_id_2...... and so on Where friend_id_% is the userid of a friend from your friends list. But this must be a very inefficient way of doing it, right? Is there any faster way of doing this in MySQL? Maybe some clever DB schema? (I know FB uses Hadoob but I'm not experienced enough to go that far :( )

If I set the predicate string to match on one relationship (e.g. Category.categoryName = Food or languageSet.languageSetName = English####Spanish) it will return data.   My config is a DNS Server on Windows Server 2008 R2. My domain is on dyndns.org dynamic IP service. This server is a DNS server and a WebServer with IIS. When someone from outside network enter the site "http://domain.dyndns.org" within a webbrowser it is ok, but when someone try to enter "http://www.domain.dyndns.org" it doesn't find any website. So I would like to add a "www." record to my DNS. I did this: Added a A-Type record pointing to my server's local IP. Added a CNAME-Type record named "www" pointing to "domain.dyndns.org." Now I can enter the "www.domain.dyndns.org" from internal network, and it works, but when I enter this address from outside it doesn't work.

• Is this so bad when using MySQL queries in PHP?

  I need to update a lot of rows, per a user request. It is a site with products. I could... Delete all old rows for that product, then loop through string building a new INSERT query. This however will lose all data if the INSERT fails. Perform an UPDATE through each loop. This loop currently iterates over 8 items, but in the future it may get up to 15. This many UPDATEs doesn't sound like too good an idea. Change DB Schema, and add an auto_increment Id to the rows. Then first do a SELECT, get all old rows ids in a variable, perform one INSERT, and then a DELETE WHERE IN SET. What is the usual practice here? Thanks

• .net web service: Can't add service reference, only web reference

  I have an existing project that consumes web services. One was added as a service reference, and the other as a web reference. I don't recall why one was added as a web reference, but perhaps it's because I couldn't get it to work! The existing service reference for the one web service works fine, so it's not a .net version issue. I can successfully create a service reference for the second web service, but none of the methods are available. The .wsdl shows the schema, but the Reference.vb shows only the Namespace, and none of the methods. To clarify, these are two different 3rd party web service providers. We'd like to move to the service reference so we have more control over the configuration as we're having various issues with timeouts. Anyone come across this before? Edit Does it matter that there are two services at the address?

Right now I'm having a problem with the conversion between GUIDs (which we use for primary keys) and the Oracle RAW datatype. Inserts into oracle are fine (I just use the ToByteArray() method on System.Guid). The problem is converting back to System.Guid when I load records from the database. Currently, I'm using the byte array I get from ADO.NET to pass into the constructor for System.Guid. This appears to be working, but the Guids that appear in the database do not correspond to the Guids I'm generating in this manner. I can't change the database schema or the query (since it's reused for SQL Server). I need code to convert the byte array from Oracle into the correct Guid.

• Why do I get this error when I try to push my SQLite3 to Postgresql (via Taps) on Cedar Stack?

  I've done quite a bit of research on Heroku Dev Center and I am now looking to the community for help. Here is my problem. I can not push my db to Heroku Cedar Stack. I am trying to migrate a sqlite database to postgresql via Taps gem. • Generate POCO classes in different project to the project with Entity Framework model

  I'm trying to use the Repository Pattern with EF4 using VS2010. To this end I am using POCO code generation by right clicking on the entity model designer and clicking Add code generation item. I then select the POCO template and get my classes. What I would like to be able to do is have my solution structured into separate projects for Entity (POCO) classes and another project for the entity model and repository code. This means that my MVC project could use the POCO classes for strongly typed views etc and not have to know about the repository or have to have a reference to it. To plug it all together I will have another separate project with interfaces and use IoC. Sounds good in my head I just don't know how to generate the classes into their own project! I can copy them and then change the namespaces on them but I wanted to avoid manual work whenever I change the schema in the db and want to update my model. Thanks

  Hello, my company uses an openldap server which stores corporate user information ((username,passwd and some other information like email are stored in ldap).. Till now they only use it for authentication but now we'd like to use for authentication also, this means that we'll create roles (as ldap attributes in a new schema) and assign those roles in the users. My actual question is if there is a best-practice to follow for using openldap for authentication on many applications (most written in php). I understand how to make roles and assign them to users for just one application, but what about the others (each application of course has its own roles). Should I just create an ou=appName,ou=roles,dc=mycompany for each application, put the roles as attributes there and just add each role as an attribute of the user object ? is there any other recommendations ? thanks

Below is my firewall rules on the gateway server that is running the dhcp server accessing the net. The webserver is inside my network on a static IP (192.168.0.98, default port). The network looked something like this: I have now replaced the sky modem with a dlink modem which gives the IP to the gateway server that now does the DHCP. It looks like: The internet connection is a standard broadband connection with a dynamic IP, (use zoneedit.com to keep it updated). I have tried it on each of the webservers(one Ubuntu Apache server and one WS2008 IIS7). I think there must also be an issue with my IPTable rules as it can route to my win7 box which has the default IIS7 page and that would not display when I forwarded all port 80 to it.   So I am writing a simple inbox private message system, my table schema is as follows - messageID - message - sender id - receiver id - date sent - read ( 0 = no , 1 = yes) now I am able to show the messages for the user by relating his userID to receiverID. However I also want to show the messages he has sent in the inbox to the user. For example his inbox should show Darth Vader - 3 New messages Luke - 0 new messages (0 because either I read all of them OR i sent him the message and he has not replied). But what i can only come up with is Darth Vader - 3 New messages. Can I get any help with how I can accomplish this SQL call?

• Session bug using facebook-connect-with-authlogic in Rails

  I'm trying to follow this article: http://ryanbigg.com/2010/03/testing-facebook, but I'm stuck. I think the problem is with my session, in that the current_usermethod comes up with nil for session[:facebook_session]. • Using Phing's dbdeploy task with transactions

  I am using Phing's dbdeploy task to manage my database schema. This is working fine, as long as there is no errors in my delta file. However, if there is an error, dbdeploy will just run the delta files up to the query with the error and then abort. This causes me some frustration, because I have to manually rollback the entry in the changelog table then. If I don't, dbdeploy will assume the migration was successful on a subsequent try. So the question is, there any way to get dbdeploy use transactions?

  I have an XML which uses the XPDL standard (which has an XML schema). What I'm trying to do now is to convert its content to RDF format (serialized in XML), in terms of a certain ontology. Clearly, there needs to be some sort of mapping here. I would like to do this using PHP. The thing is, I have no idea how to do this best. I know how to read an XML file, but how would the mappings occur? What would be a good approach?

• Switch smarthosts in Exchange when using dual WAN

  Hi everybody, I'd like to know if it's possible to setup Exchange 2003/2007 to switch between smarthosts, based on the WAN connection currently in use. Example scenario: I have two WAN connections with different ISP's. Exchange is running behind a dual WAN router. The router is setup to fall back to secondary WAN when primary WAN fails. The smarthost set in Exchange is the SMTP server of the primary ISP. Because the smarthost set in Exchange only allows relaying from IP's of the primary WAN sending mail won't work when the router falls back to the secondary WAN. Sending mail directly through DNS MX lookup is an option but the ISP's have dynamic IP's that get blacklisted a lot. Thanks in advance!
