• Open Dialog, created with quickly does not work

  I tried to open a dialog like David Planella describs here (and quickly help add): Open Custom Dialog Windows (PyGTK + Quickly) But this don't works for me. I always get the same Error-Message if I open the creadted Dialog: AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'NewDialogNameDialog' (Note: My Dialog-Name is replaced with "NewDialogNameDialog" to be more general.) I tried to test a tutorial for the Ubuntu app showdown to learn how to use quickly and python. I can also add the whole source-code if you wish.

I have reached the part where I know enough about the syntax of the language to understand something if I read it – but not enough about the language to be productive and write something useful. A bit of a frustrating place to be. Needless to say when you are in this state of mind – you end up paging mindlessly through chapters of my F# book with no real incentive to learn anything until you hit “Exceptions”. • Rhythmbox is not launching

  I'm using Rhythmbox 2.99 in Ubuntu 13.10, and when I first launch the application it searches for music and works like a charm, but if I try to launch it later again nothing happens. When I run it in terminal I get this: $ rhythmbox (rhythmbox:8860): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: Custom constructor for class SoupServer returned NULL (which is invalid). Unable to remove object from construction_objects list, so memory was probably just leaked. Please use GInitable instead. Segmentation fault Any ideas how to make it work again?

  Does Virtual Server 2005 R2 have a command line interface, that's versatile enough? Here is a situation. I run a Win2k VM on an old memory constrained machine. I allocate it 378MB of RAM and the VM runs just fine. Once a month, inside the VM, I backup the (a very large) database, compress it using 7Zip and ftp it to the backup site (all in a script). Unfortunately the compression part takes a massive amount of RAM (far exceeding the 378MB), it goes for the paging file and brings absolutely everything to a crawl and literally takes 2-3 days, if left unattended. So to fix this, I have to shutdown the VM, give it temporarily 768MB of RAM and then the whole thing finishes in 20 minutes. So, is there a way do the following automatically from the host machine in a script? Shutdown the guest OS (I think, I got this part) Change the RAM allocation from 378 to 768 Start the guest OS again then, 1 hour later, do everything in reverse.

• Architecture : am I doing things right?

  I'm trying to use a '~classic' layered arch using .NET and Entity Framework. We are starting from a legacy database which is a little bit crappy: Inconsistent naming Unneeded views (view referencing other views, select * views etc...) Aggregated columns Potatoes and Carrots in the same table etc... So I ended with fully isolating my database structure from my domain model. To do so EF entities are hidden from presentation layer. The goal is to permit an easier database refactoring while lowering the impact of it on applications. I'm now facing a lot of challenges and I'm starting to ask myself if I'm doing things right. My Domain Model is highly volatile, it keeps evolving with apps as new fields needs are arising. Complexity of it keeps raising and class it contains start to get a lot of properties. Creating include strategy and reprojecting to EF is very tricky (my domain objects don't have any kind of lazy/eager loading relationship properties): DomainInclude<Domain.Model.Bar>.Include("Customers").Include("Customers.Friends") // To... IFooContext.Bars.Include(...).Include(...).Where(...) Some framework are raping the isolation levels (Devexpress Grids which needs either XPO or IQueryable for filtering and paging large data sets) I'm starting to ask myself if : the isolation of EF auto-generated entities is an unneeded cost. I should allow frameworks to hit IQueryable? Slow slope to hell? (it's really hard to isolate DevExpress framework, any successful experience?) the high volatility of my domain model is normal? Did you have similar difficulties? Any advice based on experience?

How can I tell if it is using Process Explorer? My initial guess is in the System Information window, it's Paging File Write Delta. Yes? No? I'm an idiot? *Screenshot is not of the server... just an example.

• Can the parameters of the Music Lens be edited?

  I primarily listen to classical music on my laptop. Since I'm obsessed with specifics with my music, I am precise with how I label my genres (Opera, Symphony, Chorale, etc.). Is there a way to edit the Music Lens so that instead of listing "Blues, Classic, Country..." it could list custom parameters? Could the same be done for the "Decade" parameter? Maybe make it "Century", since I have music from back in the 1400's :)

  I have 2 PCs, 1 with a INTEL-Q9550 (YES-VT-x) and another with INTEL-E2160 (NO-VT-x) I will be using the Q9550 first to create a new VM, install XP and install stuff I'll need. Once this VM is golden, I plan on migrating this VM over to the E2160 machine. The question is, while creating/preparing this VM on the Q9550, should I disable all the following settings below to make sure the E2160 can start this VM without errors?   Oracle Product Manager for Java ME SDK, Sungmoon Cho, presented a session, "Developing Java Mobile and Embedded Applications with Java ME SDK 3.2,” wherein he covered the basic new features of the Java ME Platform SDK 3.2, a state-of-the-art toolbox for developing mobile and embedded applications. The session began with a summary of the four main components of Java ME SDK. A device emulator allows developers to quickly run and test applications before commercialization. It supports CLDC/MIDP CLDC/IMP.NG and CLC/AGUI. A development environment assists writing, running debugging and deploying and enables on-device debugging. Samples provide developers with useful codes and frameworks. IDE Plugins – NetBeans and Eclipse – equip developers with CPU Profiler, Memory Monitor, Network Monitor, and Device Selector. This means that manual integration is no longer necessary. Cho then talked about the Java ME SDK’s on-device tooling architecture: * Java ME SDK provides an architecture ideal for on-device-debugging.* Device Manager plays the central role by managing different devices whether it is the emulator or a device that Oracle provides or recommends or a third party device as long as the devices have a Java Runtime that supports the protocol that is designated.* The Emulator provides an accurate emulation, since it uses the same code base used in Oracle’s Java ME runtime.* The Universal Emulator Interface (UEI) makes it easy for IDEs to detect the platform.He then focused on the Java ME SDK release highlights, which include: * Implementation and support for the new Oracle® Java Wireless Client 3.2 runtime and the Oracle® Java ME Embedded runtime. • High shmmax value in Redhat 6.3

  We are using Redhat 6.3 with 30G RAM to host our Postgres server. The (default) shmmax value is 68,719,476,736 In some forums I have read that having an shmmax value larger than the RAM causes extensive paging, but in the Redhat forums it warns against changing a kernel parameter that is already configured to a value larger than the minimum requirements for an environment. In ServerFault I've read that this probably has no impact. So is there any impact of having shmmax value RAM in a DB server, or the kernel understands this and handles it appropriately? Thanks

• Virtual Windows Servers and Pagefile location [closed]

  Considering that Windows makes heavy use of the pagefile even with huge amounts of RAM available, is it not best to have this pagefile on the fastest disk possible as close to the virtual systems as possible? I'm thinking, RAM disk. Where I work, storage for VMs is out on a NAS/SAN. I'm worried that so much memory access is having to go across the network! As a side, I think its about time MS got rid of paging and told us to buy more DIMMS. UPDATE So this question has been downvoted??! Accessing a local spindle is C40,000 times slower than a DIMM, so going over the network will be even slower for hard faults. I don't know why I got the downvote, I'm certain that this is an issue unless there's some other mechanism in ESX/HyperV that manages this.

• Remapping Alt + F2 in Unity

  I disabled the Alt + F2 default shortcut in unity (ubuntu 11.10) using ccsm and I set a new shortcut using the default system shortcut manager (system settings keyboard). And it works, until I execute a command like compiz --replace. After that, all shortcuts keep working normally, except for Alt + F2. It does nothing. Any suggetions to keep the custom Alt + F2 shortcut working after compiz --replace?

  I just added an include filter this morning in my domain (test.org). I have: Custom Filter Include Request URI ^/test-a/46212$|^/test-a/46212|^/test-a/46315 Now after I go to Content Site Content All Pages, I see stats for other pages that I didn't include in my filter. For example I see /somethingelse. I only want to see stats for /test-a/46212 and whatever else in my filter. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong.
