  • Add version control to existing SQL Server database

    I am part of a development team currently working with a database that does not have any kind of source control. We work with SQL Server 2008 R2 and have always managed the DB directly with SSMS. It now has ~340 tables and ~1600 stored procedures, plus a few triggers and views, so it is not a small DB. My goal is to have the DB under version control, so I have been reading articles, like Scott Allen's series (http://bitly.com/9cJmGR) and many old SO related questions. But I am still unable to decide on how to proceed. What I'm thinking of is to script the database schema in one file, then procedures, triggers and views in one file each. Then keep everything versioned under Mercurial. But of course, every member of the team can access SSMS and directly change the schema and procedures, with the possibility that any of us can forget to replicate those changes in the versioned files. What better options are there? And, did I forget any element worth having source control of?

I can either make the site do ajax request that load the body content, or I can have links that re-loads the whole page. I need the site to be SEO compliant, and I would really like the header to not re-load when the content changes, the reason is that we have a media player that plays live audio. Is there away that if Google BOT or someone without ajax enabled it does the site like normal href but if ajax or javascript allowed do it the ajax way.

    I want to set up an Oracle Linux 6 server that gives users secure IMAP email (with dovecot), Jabber IM, FTP (with vsftpd), and calDav. However, I want each user logon to be able to authenticate all services (e.g. Joe Smith signs up once for a username and password that he can use for email, ftp, and his calendar). My question is, which database service will be best suited for that application? Also, is there a way to link the database with the preexisting server shell logins (e.g. so I can read the root account's LogCheck emails on a different device)?

    I've been writing a c# exe that will be running on a live web server, but I want to be able to test it on our staging server. Since the staging server has different database settings (in the app.config) from my localhost, is there any way I can store the connection string outside the app.config so that I can easily get to it? Also, is it possible to store the database connection string, then access it via the app.config? This might sound odd, but I'm using a dll from a CMS that uses the value in the .config file.

At first I was thinking, it registers it's instances to keep track of them, but regular constructors could do the same thing through the use of private static variables. What is the reasoning behind this style?

    What i know:- We can use Ajax to change database from javascript. So whenever we press the 'X' button on title bar it calls "onbeforeunload" event. And by this event we can change the database. But in my case, i want to change the status of user only when user click on 'X' button. Not in case of changing the page. As because changing the page is unloading the page. and closing the page is also unloading the page(As much i know). Is there any way to differentiate between closing the page and moving from one page to other page? I want to use it for changing the status of user(i.e. login/logout), whenever he presses cross button. I don't want to set status "logout" when user changes the page. I want to set status "logout" when user 'X' the button. Plese help me.

    Ok, this is so weird!!! I am running PHP Version 5.1.6 when I try and run the code below it gives a fatal error of an object that has not been instantiated.     So I'm using a stand alone function from within a class that that uses the class it's being called from. Prior to this function call there are lots of public properties populated, but when I look at the $STATE object within the function scope it loses all the properties but one, product_id. The property that matters for this function is the category_id property, which is an array of category id's. I'm wondering why I don't have access to all the public properties of the $STATE object and how I can get access to them.

  • ScaleTransform transforms non-linearly

    I am using scale transform to allow a user to resize a control. What happens though is that when you start to move the mouse the control jumps to a new size, and then scales oddly. The further you move your mouse from the starting location the larger the increase in size becomes. I expect its the way I calculate the scale to be applied. For this I read that I have to modify the web.config from Central Administration and web.config from my site with the membership and roleManager tags configured properly.     Given a table that has three columns ID (Primary Key, not-autoincrementing) GroupID SomeValue I am trying to write a single SQL INSERT INTO statement that will make a copy of every row that has one GroupID into a new GroupID. Example beginning table: ID | GroupID | SomeValue ------------------------ 1 | 1 | a 2 | 1 | b Goal after I run a simple INSERT INTO statement: ID | GroupID | SomeValue ------------------------ 1 | 1 | a 2 | 1 | b 3 | 2 | a 4 | 2 | b I thought I could do something like: INSERT INTO MyTable ( [ID] ,[GroupID] ,[SomeValue] ) ( SELECT (SELECT MAX(ID) + 1 FROM MyTable) ,@NewGroupID ,[SomeValue] FROM MyTable WHERE ID = @OriginalGroupID ) This causes a PrimaryKey violation since it will end up reusing the same Max(ID)+1 value multiple times as it seems. Is my only recourse to a bunch of INSERT statements in a T-SQL WHILE statement that has an incrementing Counter value? I also don't have the option of turning the ID into an auto-incrementing Identity column since that would breaking code I don't have source for.

Now isolated in a visual basic 6 sub routine using ADODB to connect to a sql server 2008 database it throws an error saying: "Login failed for user 'admin' " I have since verified the connection string does work if i replace the body of this sub with the alternative code below this sub.   • Helping linqtosql datacontext use implicit conversion between varchar column in the database and tab

    I am creating an mssql database table, "Orders", that will contain a varchar(50) field, "Value" containing a string that represents a slightly complex data type, "OrderValue". I am using a linqtosql datacontext class, which automatically types the "Value" column as a string. I gave the "OrderValue" class implicit conversion operators to and from a string, so I can easily use implicit conversion with the linqtosql classes like this: // get an order from the orders table MyDataContext db = new MyDataContext(); Order order = db.Orders(o => o.id == 1); // use implicit converstion to turn the string representation of the order // value into the complex data type. OrderValue value = order.Value; // adjust one of the fields in the complex data type value.Shipping += 10; // use implicit conversion to store the string representation of the complex // data type back in the linqtosql order object order.Value = value; // save changes db.SubmitChanges(); However, I would really like to be able to tell the linqtosql class to type this field as "OrderValue" rather than as "string". Then I would be able to avoid complex code and re-write the above as: // get an order from the orders table MyDataContext db = new MyDataContext(); Order order = db.Orders(o => o.id == 1); // The Value field is already typed as the "OrderValue" type rather than as string. // When a string value was read from the database table, it was implicity converted // to "OrderValue" type. order.Value.Shipping += 10; // save changes db.SubmitChanges(); In order to achieve this desired goal, I looked at the datacontext designer and selected the "Value" field of the "Order" table. Then, in properties, I changed "Type" to "global::MyApplication.OrderValue". The "Server Data Type" property was left as "VarChar(50) NOT NULL" The project built without errors. However, when reading from the database table, I was presented with the following error message: Could not convert from type 'System.String' to type 'MyApplication.OrderValue'. at System.Data.Linq.DBConvert.ChangeType(Object value, Type type) at Read_Order(ObjectMaterializer1 ) at System.Data.Linq.SqlClient.ObjectReaderCompiler.ObjectReader2.MoveNext() at System.Linq.Buffer1..ctor(IEnumerable1 source) at System.Linq.Enumerable.ToArray[TSource](IEnumerable`1 source) at Example.OrdersProvider.GetOrders() at ... etc From the stack trace, I believe this error is happening while reading the data from the table. When presented with converting a string to my custom data type, even though the implicit conversion operators are present, the DBConvert class gets confused and throws an error.     Hi. I got a part on my page I want to improve. It's a file upload that users can add their contacts from files like excel, csv & outlook. I read the contacts and place them in the database, so what I would like to do is to have a regular icon that spins while that operation is doing that, how could I do that? Ajax? I don't want progress bar for the file upload but the operation for reading the file EDIT: I want to know how to make this work with the add to database using ajax. like should I use a updatepanel? I already tried to use ax.plot_surface() function to make it look nice. For this I eliminated some points, and recalculated the matrix kind of input needed by this function. However, the graph I generated was far more difficult to interpret and understand. So there might be 2 possibilities: either I am not using the function correctly, or otherwise, the data I am trying to plot is not good for the surface plot. What I was expecting was 3D graph which would have an effect similar to that we have of 3D pie chart. We see that one piece (that which is extracted out) is part of another piece. I was not expecting it to be exactly same like that, but some kind of effect like that. What I would like to ask is: Do you think it will be possible to make such 3D graph? Is there any way better, I could express my data in 3 dimension?   • Silverlight MVVM in VS2008 - a non starter?

    I'm still very new to Silverlight. I'm currently using vs2008 at work. As far as I can gather Silverlight 4 is vs2010 only. I stumbled across this article on command binding, it says that command binding is a new feature introduced in silverlight 4. Is command binding integral to MVVM in silverlight, does it make MVVM much simpler to implement? Thanks for any help.

  • OGRE: Non-Standard Resolution

    I am using OGRE to make a re-rendering of the film, which has a wide aspect ratio (around 1.85). The OGRE dialog seems to be showing the standard full screen resolution by default (800/600, 1024/768, etc.), but those obviously have aspect ratios of 1.333 or around that. But as long as I am not running full screen mode, why should I be restricted to these screen sizes only? I can definitely change the viewport size, but that would make it difficult for me to generate the video later. Any idea?
