  • Fixing Floating Point Error

    I have some code that gets the leading value (non-zero) of a Double using normal math instead of String Math... For Example: 0.020 would return 2 3.12 would return 3 1000 should return 1 The code I have at the moment is: LeadingValue := Trunc(ResultValue * Power(10, -(Floor(Log10(ResultValue))))) However when ResultValue is 1000 then LeadingValue ends up as 0. What can I do to fix this problem I'm assuming is being caused by floating point errors? Thanks.

  • Which option controls the color of this text?

    I have applied a color theme called Vibrant Ink (or some modification of it), and since I installed Visual Studio 2010 Pro Power Tools all my statement completion boxes are undreadable. What setting changes the colors of these boxes? Preferrably, I'd like to change the background color to something darker, but if that's not possible at least I want to change the text color.

    Anyone have numbers on how many machines / % of internet uses have Google Native Client? I'm curious about google NaCL as a platform: it seems to combine the best of the web (just a webpage, accessible on any machine) and desktop apps (OpenGL, C/C++ power).     I've heard many things about performance in C; casting is slow compared to normal assignments, functional call is slow, binary operation are much faster than normal operations, et cetera... I'm sure some of those things are specific to the architecture, and compiler optimization might make a huge difference, but I would like to see a chart to get a general idea what I should do and what I should avoid to write high-performance programs.     Dear all. I was wondering if there are examples of situations where you would purposefully pass an argument by value (deep copy) in C. For instance, passing a char to a function is usually cheaper in space than passing a char* (if there's no need to share the value), since char is 1 byte and pointers are, well, whatever they are in the architecture (4 in my 32 bit machine). ?(When) do you want to pass (big) deep copies to functions? if so, why?

  • Trouble reinstalling Gem after failure

    Yesterday I tried to install Jeweler via Rubygems, however somewhere in the middle of the process I had a power failure, resulting in my computer turning off in the middle of the installation process. Once I got it back up, I tried to reinstall Jeweler, however resulting in an error I've had trouble decoding. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem? (I tried uninstall, cleanup and check)

    Does anyone know how a computer cluster can be used for everyday applications, like for example video games? I would like to build a computer cluster that can run applications over the cluster that were not specifically designed for computer clusters and still see the performance increase. One use would be for video games, but I would also like to utilize the increased computing power for running a large network of virtualized machines.
