• JSF 2 f:ajax lifecycle problem

- by gerry
The problem is, that if a property is changed during an f:ajax request and a binded panelGroup should be newly created depending on that changed value, the old value is used. This code will explain the problem. Here is the backingbean TestBean: public String getFirst() { return first; } public void setFirst(String first) { this.first = first; } public String getLast() { return last; } public void setLast(String last) { this.last = last; } public String getName(){ return first+" "+last; } public void setDynamicPanel(HtmlPanelGroup panel){ } public HtmlPanelGroup getDynamicPanel(){ Application app = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getApplication(); HtmlPanelGroup component = (HtmlPanelGroup)app.createComponent(HtmlPanelGroup.COMPONENT_TYPE); HtmlOutputLabel label1 = (HtmlOutputLabel)app.createComponent(HtmlOutputLabel.COMPONENT_TYPE); label1.setValue(" --> "+getFirst()+" "+getLast()); component.getChildren().add(label1); return component; } and now the jsf/facelet code: <h:form id="form"> <h:panelGrid columns="1"> <h:inputText id="first" value="#{testBean.first}" /> <h:inputText id="last" value="#{testBean.last}" /> <h:commandButton value="Show"> <f:ajax execute="first last" render="name dyn" /> </h:commandButton> </h:panelGrid> <h:outputText id="name" value="#{testBean.name}" /> <h:panelGroup id="dyn" binding="#{testBean.dynamicPanel}" /> </h:form> After the page was initially loaded the outputText and panelGroup shows both "null" as first and last. But after the button is pressed, the outputText is updated well, but the the panelgroup shows again only "null". This is due to the problem, that the "binded method" dynamicPanel is executed before the update of the first and last properties. how can workaround this behaviour or what is wrong with my code?

• Bind a generic list to a listbox and also use a datatemplate

- by muku
Hello, I'm trying to implement something quite simple but I'm on my first steps in WPF and I'm having some problems. I have a class called Component which has a property called Vertices. Vertices is a generic List of type Point. What I want is to bind the vertices property to a listbox. This is easy by using this code in my XAML in the listbox declaration: ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Component.Vertices, Mode=OneWay, Converter={StaticResource verticesconverter},UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}" The tricky part is when I try to create a datatemplate for the listbox. I want each row of the listbox to display a textbox with the values of the Vertex (Point.X, Point.Y) and a button to allow me to delete the item. Could you help me on the datatemplate definition. The code below doesn't work to bind the X,Y values into two separate textboxes. Could you point me on the mistake and why nothing is displayed in the textboxes? <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Component.Vertices, Mode=OneWay,UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Margin="0,10,0,0"> <TextBox Text="{Binding X}" MinWidth="35" MaxWidth="35"/> <TextBox Text="{Binding Y}" MinWidth="35" MaxWidth="35"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> /ListBox>

• JSF - Creating an overlay for popup panels.

- by Ben
Hi, I've created an overlay that will popup whenever someone wants to upload a file to the system. The Gui looks like this (when the overlay is up) I have two problems with this: I attached a a4j:support object that, onclick, makes the overlay disappear. The problem with this is that when I click the upload button on the upload component, support catches the click event and closes the overlay with the upload component before I have the chance to finish the operation. I chose two different style classes. One for the overlay and one for the upload panel. But the styling of the overlay takes over the upload component and it becomes transparent as well. The implementation looks something like this: <h:panelgroup layout="block" styleClass="overlayClass"> <rich:fileUpload styleClass="uploadStyleClass"... /> <a4j:support event="onclick" action="#{mrBean.switchOverlayState}" reRender="..."/> </h:panelGroup> The CSS: .overlayClass { Opacity: 0.5; position: fixed; left: 0; right: 0; top: 0; bottom: 0; background: #000; } .uploadStyleClass { opacity: 1.0; ... } Thanks for the help!

• how to send binary data within an xml string

- by daemonkid
I want to send a binary file to .net c# component in the following xml format <BinaryFileString fileType='pdf'> </BinaryFileString> In the component that is called I will use the above xml string and convert the binary string recieved within the BinaryFileString tag, into a file as specified by the filetype='' attribute. The file type could be doc/pdf/xls/rtf I have the code in the calling application to get out the bytes from the file to be sent. How do I prepare it to be sent with xml tags wrapped around it? I want the application to send out a string to the component and not a byte stream. This is because there is no way I can decipher the file type [pdf/doc/xls] by just looking at the byte stream. Hence the xml string with the filetype attribute. Any ideas on this? method for extracting Bytes below FileStream fs = new FileStream(_filePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); using (Stream input = fs) { byte[] buffer = new byte[8192]; int bytesRead; while ((bytesRead = input.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)) > 0) { } } return buffer; Thanks.

• Silverlight MVVM Confusion: Updating Image Based on State

- by senfo
I'm developing a Silverlight application and I'm trying to stick to the MVVM principals, but I'm running into some problems changing the source of an image based on the state of a property in the ViewModel. For all intents and purposes, you can think of the functionality I'm implementing as a play/pause button for an audio app. When in the "Play" mode, IsActive is true in the ViewModel and the "Pause.png" image on the button should be displayed. When paused, IsActive is false in the ViewModel and "Play.png" is displayed on the button. Naturally, there are two additional images to handle when the mouse hovers over the button. I thought I could use a Style Trigger, but apparently they're not supported in Silverlight. I've been reviewing a forum post with a question similar to mine where it's suggested to use the VisualStateManager. While this might help with changing the image for hover/normal states, the part missing (or I'm not understanding) is how this would work with a state set via the view model. The post seems to apply only to events rather than properties of the view model. Having said that, I also haven't successfully completed the normal/hover affects, either. Below is my Silverlight 4 XAML. It should also probably be noted I'm working with MVVM Light. <UserControl x:Class="Foo.Bar.MyUserControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:i="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Interactivity;assembly=System.Windows.Interactivity" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="100" d:DesignWidth="200"> <UserControl.Resources> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> </Grid> </UserControl> What is the proper way to update images on buttons with the state determined by the view model? Update I changed my Button to a ToggleButton hoping I could use the Checked state to differentiate between play/pause. I practically have it, but I ran into one additional problem. I need to account for two states at the same time. For example, Checked Normal/Hover and Unchecked Normal/Hover. Following is my updated XAML: <UserControl x:Class="Foo.Bar.MyUserControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:i="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Interactivity;assembly=System.Windows.Interactivity" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="100" d:DesignWidth="200"> <UserControl.Resources> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <ToggleButton Style="{StaticResource MyButtonStyle}" IsChecked="{Binding IsPlaying}" Command="{Binding ChangeStatus}" Height="30" Width="30" /> </Grid> </UserControl>

• Place JComponent On The Top Of JXLayer

- by Yan Cheng CHEOK
Hello, currently, I had successful applying JXLayer on my charting component, to draw a yellow information box on the top of it. final org.jdesktop.jxlayer.JXLayer<ChartPanel> layer = new org.jdesktop.jxlayer.JXLayer<ChartPanel>(this.chartPanel); this.chartLayerUI = new ChartLayerUI<ChartPanel>(this); layer.setUI(this.chartLayerUI); At the same time, I wish to add the following JComponent (DefaultDrawingView) on the top of JXLayer. This JComponent has the ability 1) To receive mouse event to draw figures on itself. Within ChartLayerUI, I add the following code @Override @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public void installUI(JComponent c) { super.installUI(c); JXLayer<JComponent> l = (JXLayer<JComponent>) c; l.getGlassPane().setLayout(new java.awt.BorderLayout()); // this.view is DefaultDrawingView drawing object. l.getGlassPane().add(this.view, java.awt.BorderLayout.CENTER); } However, after having the above code, I get the following outcome 1) My charting component ChartPanel are being blocked by DefaultDrawingView 2) My charting component no longer able to receive mouse event. What I wish is that A) ChartPanel and DefaultDrawingView able to show up B) ChartPanel and DefaultDrawingView able to receive mouse event Is there other steps I had missed out, or did wrong? Thanks.

• Rate Limit Calls To Api Using Cache

- by namtax
Hi I am using coldfusion to call the last.fm api, using a cfc bundle sourced from here I am concerned about going over the request limit, which is 5 requests per originating IP address per second, averaged over a 5 minute period. The cfc bundle has a central component which calls all the other components, which are split up into sections like "artist", "track" etc...This central component "lastFmApi.cfc." is initiated in my application, and persisted for the lifespan of the application // Application.cfc example <cffunction name="onApplicationStart"> <cfset var apiKey = '[your api key here]' /> <cfset var apiSecret = '[your api secret here]' /> <cfset application.lastFm = CreateObject('component', 'org.FrankFusion.lastFm.lastFmApi').init(apiKey, apiSecret) /> </cffunction> Now if I want to call the api through a handler/controller, for example my artist handler...I can do this <cffunction name="artistPage" cache="5 mins"> <cfset qAlbums = application.lastFm.user.getArtist(url.artistName) /> </cffunction> I am a bit confused towards caching, but am caching each call to the api in this handler for 5 mins, but does this make any difference, because each time someone hits a new artist page wont this still count as a fresh hit against the api? Wondering how best to tackle this Thanks

• Setting up Inversion of Control (IoC) in ASP.NET MVC with Castle Windsor

- by Lirik
I'm going over Sanderson's Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework and in Chapter 4 he discusses Creating a Custom Controller Factory and it seems that the original method, AddComponentLifeStyle or AddComponentWithLifeStyle, used to register controllers is deprecated now: public class WindsorControllerFactory : DefaultControllerFactory { IWindsorContainer container; public WindsorControllerFactory() { container = new WindsorContainer(new XmlInterpreter(new ConfigResource("castle"))); // register all the controller types as transient var controllerTypes = from t in Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetTypes() where typeof(IController).IsAssignableFrom(t) select t; //[Obsolete("Use Register(Component.For().ImplementedBy<T>().Named(key).Lifestyle.Is(lifestyle)) instead.")] //IWindsorContainer AddComponentLifeStyle<I, T>(string key, LifestyleType lifestyle) where T : class; foreach (Type t in controllerTypes) { container.Register(Component.For<IController>().ImplementedBy<???>().Named(t.FullName).LifeStyle.Is(LifestyleType.Transient)); } } // Constructs the controller instance needed to service each request protected override IController GetControllerInstance(Type controllerType) { return (IController)container.Resolve(controllerType); } } The new suggestion is to use Register(Component.For().ImplementedBy<T>().Named(key).Lifestyle.Is(lifestyle)), but I can't figure out how to present the implementing controller type in the ImplementedBy<???>() method. I tried ImplementedBy<t>() and ImplementedBy<typeof(t)>(), but I can't find the appropriate way to pass int he implementing type. Any ideas?

• media.set_xx giving me grief!

- by Firas
New guy here. I asked a while back about a sprite recolouring program that I was having difficulty with and got some great responses. Basically, I tried to write a program that would recolour pixels of all the pictures in a given folder from one given colour to another. I believe I have it down, but, now the program is telling me that I have an invalid value specified for the red component of my colour. (ValueError: Invalid red value specified.), even though it's only being changed from 64 to 56. Any help on the matter would be appreciated! (Here's the code, in case I messed up somewhere else; It's in Python): import os import media import sys def recolour(old, new, folder): old_list = old.split(' ') new_list = new.split(' ') folder_location = os.path.join('C:\', 'Users', 'Owner', 'Spriting', folder) for filename in os.listdir (folder): current_file = media.load_picture(folder_location + '\\' + filename) for pix in current_file: if (media.get_red(pix) == int(old_list[0])) and \ (media.get_green(pix) == int(old_list[1])) and \ (media.get_blue(pix) == int(old_list[2])): media.set_red(pix, new_list[0]) media.set_green(pix, new_list[1]) media.set_blue(pix, new_list[2]) media.save(pic) if name == 'main': while 1: old = str(raw_input('Please insert the original RGB component, separated by a single space: ')) if old == 'quit': sys.exit(0) new = str(raw_input('Please insert the new RGB component, separated by a single space: ')) if new == 'quit': sys.exit(0) folder = str(raw_input('Please insert the name of the folder you wish to modify: ')) if folder == 'quit': sys.exit(0) else: recolour(old, new, folder)

• Seeking suggestions on redesigning the interface

- by ratkok
As a part of maintaining large piece of legacy code, we need to change part of the design mainly to make it more testable (unit testing). One of the issues we need to resolve is the existing interface between components. The interface between two components is a class that contains static methods only. Simplified example: class ABInterface { static methodA(); static methodB(); ... static methodZ(); }; The interface is used by component A so that different methods can use ABInterface::methodA() in order to prepare some input data and then invoke appropriate functions within component B. Now we are trying to redesign this interface for various reasons: Extending our unit test coverage - we need to resolve this dependency between the components and stubs/mocks are to be introduced The interface between these components diverged from the original design (ie. a lots of newer functions, used for the inter-component i/f are created outside this interface class). The code is old, changed a lot over the time and needs to be refactored. The change should not be disruptive for the rest of the system. We try to limit leaving many test-required artifacts in the production code. Performance is very important and should be no (or very minimal) degradation after the redesign. Code is OO in C++. I am looking for some ideas what approach to take. Any suggestions on how to do this efficiently?

• Flex: Method doesn't work when being called on parentDocument

- by ChrisInCambo
Hi, I wonder is anyone can look at this code and tell me why calling the removeSelectedChild works when called from the same document, but returns the following error when called from the child document/component. "ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller." <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" > <mx:Accordion id="myAccordion" width="100%" height="100%" selectedIndex="0"> <mx:Script> public function removeSelectedChild():void { myAccordion.removeChild(myAccordion.selectedChild); } </mx:Script> <mx:headerRenderer> <mx:Component> <mx:Button click="{ parentDocument.removeSelectedChild() }" /> </mx:Component> </mx:headerRenderer> <mx:HBox> <mx:Button click="{ removeSelectedChild() }" /> </mx:HBox> </mx:Accordion> </mx:Application> Clicking on the button in the child produces the expected result, whilst clicking on the header throws an error despite the fact they both call exactly the same method. Sorry that the example is a little contrived, this problem arose in a quite complicated view, which was using all kinds of custom components. This was the only way I could display it in a way that will be quick for you to compile and easy to focus on the real issue without background noise. I'm pulling my hair out on this one and would really appreciate it if anyone could help. Cheers, Chris

• Using child visitor in C#

- by Thomas Matthews
I am setting up a testing component and trying to keep it generic. I want to use a generic Visitor class, but not sure about using descendant classes. Example: public interface Interface_Test_Case { void execute(); void accept(Interface_Test_Visitor v); } public interface Interface_Test_Visitor { void visit(Interface_Test_Case tc); } public interface Interface_Read_Test_Case : Interface_Test_Case { uint read_value(); } public class USB_Read_Test : Interface_Read_Test_Case { void execute() { Console.WriteLine("Executing USB Read Test Case."); } void accept(Interface_Test_Visitor v) { Console.WriteLine("Accepting visitor."); } uint read_value() { Console.WriteLine("Reading value from USB"); return 0; } } public class USB_Read_Visitor : Interface_Test_Visitor { void visit(Interface_Test_Case tc) { Console.WriteLine("Not supported Test Case."); } void visit(Interface_Read_Test_Case rtc) { Console.WriteLine("Not supported Read Test Case."); } void visit(USB_Read_Test urt) { Console.WriteLine("Yay, visiting USB Read Test case."); } } // Code fragment USB_Read_Test test_case; USB_Read_Visitor visitor; test_case.accept(visitor); What are the rules the C# compiler uses to determine which of the methods in USB_Read_Visitor will be executed by the code fragment? I'm trying to factor out dependencies of my testing component. Unfortunately, my current Visitor class contains visit methods for classes not related to the testing component. Am I trying to achieve the impossible?

• Setting up isolated COM for multiple projects.

- by Praneeth
My solution consists of multiple projects all of which out type class library except one whose output type is windows application. The application references all the other projects. I also have a COM component which is referenced by some of the projects and the application also. I can setup the regfree COM by changing the Isolated property of the referenced COM component in visual studio to TRUE. The solution builds successfully and I can see the manifest file generated for that particular assembly or application. Now, my question is that do I need to do this for all the projects which reference the COM component? If yes, then I know that i cannot set the Isolated property to TRUE on more than one project(gives a build error) so how do I workaround this? I am relatively new to .net and don't know much regfree COM(i assume what i am doing IS regfree COM?). Any help I can get on this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks. I am currently using VS 2008.

• How do i set the Transaction Isolation in EJB?

- by Nitesh Panchal
Hello, I am not able to find a way to set TransactionIsolation in ejb. Can anybody tell me how do i set it? I am using persistence. I have looked the following classes : EntityManager , EntityManagerFactory, UserTransaction. None of them seems to have any method like setTransactionIsolation or such. Do we need to change persistence.xml? I just read a book named Mastering EJB 3.0 4th edition. They gave a full 10 page theory about Isolation level that this problems occur and that occurs and such things but at the end they gave this paragraph :- "As we now know, the EJB standard does not deal with isolation levels directly, and rightly so. EJB is a component specification. It defines the behavior and contracts of a business component with clients and middleware infrastructure (containers) such that the component can be rendered as various middleware services properly. EJBs therefore are transactional components that interact with resource managers, such as the JDBC resource manager or JMS resource manager, via JTS, as part of a transaction. They are not, hence, resource components in themselves. Since isolation levels are very specific to the behavior and capabilities of the underlying resources, they should therefore be specified at the resource API levels. " What exactly does it mean? What is meant by resource level APIs? Please help me. If persistence has no way to set Isolation Level then why do they give such huge theory in an EJB book and make it heavy in weight unnecessarily :(

• IN SQL operator in R-Shiny

- by Piyush
I am taking multiple selection for component as per below code. selectInput("cmpnt", "Choose Component:", choices = as.character(levels(Material_Data()$CMPNT_NM)),multiple = TRUE) But I am trying to write a sql statement as given below, then its not working. Neither it is throwing any error message. When I was selecting one option at a time (without mutiple = TRUE) then it was working (since I was using "=" operator). But after using "multiple=TRUE" I need to use IN operator, which is not working. Input_Data2 <- fn$sqldf( paste0( "select * from Input_Data1 where MTRL_NBR = '$mtrl1' and CMPNT_NM in ('$cmpnt1')") ) Thanks in advance for any help on this. Thanks jdharrison! Pleasefind the detailed code: # server.R library(RODBC) library(shiny) library(sqldf) Input_Data <- readRDS("InputSource.rds") Mtrl <- factor(Input_Data$MTRL_NBR) Mtrl_List <- levels(Mtrl) shinyServer(function(input, output) { # First UI input (Service column) filter clientData output$Choose_Material <- renderUI({ if (is.null(clientData())) return("No client selected") selectInput("mtrl", "Choose Material:", choices = as.character(levels(clientData()$MTRL_NBR)), selected = input$mtrl ) }) # Second UI input (Rounds column) filter service-filtered clientData output$Choose_Component <- renderUI({ if(is.null(input$mtrl)) return() if (is.null(Material_Data())) return("No service selected") selectInput("cmpnt", "Choose Component:", choices = as.character(levels(Material_Data()$CMPNT_NM)),multiple = TRUE) }) # First data load (client data) clientData <- reactive({ # get(input$Input_Data) return(Input_Data) }) # Second data load (filter by service column) Material_Data <- reactive({ dat <- clientData() if (is.null(dat)) return(NULL) if (!is.null(input$mtrl)) # ! dat <- dat[dat$MTRL_NBR %in% input$mtrl,] dat <- droplevels(dat) return(dat) }) output$Choose_Columns <- renderUI({ if(is.null(input$mtrl)) return() if(is.null(input$cmpnt)) return() colnames <- names(Input_Data) checkboxGroupInput("columns", "Choose Columns To Display The Data:", choices = colnames, selected = colnames) }) output$text <- renderText({ print(input$cmpnt) }) output$data_table <- renderTable({ if(is.null(input$mtrl)) return() if (is.null(input$columns) || !(input$columns %in% names(Input_Data))) return() Input_Data1 <- Input_Data[, input$columns, drop = FALSE] cmpnt1 <- input$cmpnt mtrl1 <- input$mtrl Input_Data2 <- fn$sqldf( paste0( "select * from Input_Data1 where MTRL_NBR = '$mtrl1' and CMPNT_NM in ('$cmpnt1')") ) head(Input_Data2, 10) }) })

• Is there a case for parameterising using Abstract classes rather than Interfaces?

- by Chris
I'm currently developing a component based API that is heavily stateful. The top level components implement around a dozen interfaces each. The stock top-level components therefore sit ontop of a stack of Abstract implementations which in turn contain multiple mixin implementations and implement multiple mixin interfaces. So far, so good (I hope). The problem is that the base functionality is extremely complex to implement (1,000s of lines in 5 layers of base classes) and therefore I do not wish for component writers to implement the interfaces themselves but rather to extend my base classes (where all the boiler plate code is already written). If the API therefore accepts interfaces rather than references to the Abstract implementation that I wish for component writers to extends, then I have a risk that the implementer will not perform the validation that is both required and assumed by other areas of code. Therefore, my question is, is it sometimes valid to paramerise API methods using an abstract implementation reference rather than a reference to the interface(s) that it implements? Do you have an example of a well-designed API that uses this technique or am I trying to talk myself into bad-practice?

• Problem using FormLayout in Swing

- by Dimitri
Hi I am using the FormLayout. I just discovered it and it's powerful layout manager. I would like to layout 4 components (outlined, properties, tgraph, library) in 3 columns. I want to layout my library component on top of the outlined component in one column, the graph and the properties component in one column. But it doesn't work. Maybe I miss something. Here is my code : private void layoutComponent() { JPanel panel = new JPanel(); FormLayout layout = new FormLayout( "right:p,10dlu,300dlu,left:max(50dlu;p)", "top:pref, center:p,p"); layout.setRowGroups(new int[][]{{1,3}}); PanelBuilder builder = new PanelBuilder(layout, panel); builder.setDefaultDialogBorder(); CellConstraints constraints = new CellConstraints(); builder.add(library, constraints.xy(1, 1)); builder.add(outline,constraints.xy(1, 3)); builder.add(tgraph,constraints.xy(3, 1)); builder.add(properties,constraints.xy(4, 1)); getContentPane().add(panel);r code here } Can someone help plz. Thx :)

• Android Service Testing with messages

- by Sandeep Dhull
I have a service which does its work(perform network operation) depending upon the type of message(message.what) property of the message. Then it returns the resoponse, also as a message to the requesting component(depending upon the message.replyTo). So, i am trying to write the testcases.. But how????? My Architecture of service is like this: 1) A component(ex. Activity) bounds to the service. 2) The component sends message to the Service(using Messenger). 3) The service has a nested class that handles the messages and execute the network call and returns a response as message to the sender(who initially sent the message and using its replyTo property). Now to test this.. i am using Junit test cases.. So , in that .. 1) in setUp() i am binding to the service.. 2) on testBusinessLogic() . i am sending the message to the service .. Now problem is where to get the response message.

The previous posts were: JMS Step 1 - How to Create a Simple JMS Queue in Weblogic Server 11g JMS Step 2 - Using the QueueSend.java Sample Program to Send a Message to a JMS Queue JMS Step 3 - Using the QueueReceive.java Sample Program to Read a Message from a JMS Queue In this example we will create a BPEL process which will write (enqueue) a message to a JMS queue using a JMS adapter. The JMS adapter will enqueue the full XML payload to the queue. This sample will use the following WebLogic Server objects. The first two, the Connection Factory and JMS Queue, were created as part of the first blog post in this series, JMS Step 1 - How to Create a Simple JMS Queue in Weblogic Server 11g. If you haven't created those objects yet, please see that post for details on how to do so. The Connection Pool will be created as part of this example. Object Name Type JNDI Name TestConnectionFactory Connection Factory jms/TestConnectionFactory TestJMSQueue JMS Queue jms/TestJMSQueue eis/wls/TestQueue Connection Pool eis/wls/TestQueue 1. Verify Connection Factory and JMS Queue As mentioned above, this example uses a WLS Connection Factory called TestConnectionFactory and a JMS queue TestJMSQueue. As these are prerequisites for this example, let us verify they exist. Log in to the WebLogic Server Administration Console. Select Services > JMS Modules > TestJMSModule You should see the following objects: If not, or if the TestJMSModule is missing, please see the abovementioned article and create these objects before continuing. 2. Create a JMS Adapter Connection Pool in WebLogic Server The BPEL process we are about to create uses a JMS adapter to write to the JMS queue. The JMS adapter is deployed to the WebLogic server and needs to be configured to include a connection pool which references the connection factory associated with the JMS queue. In the WebLogic Server Console Go to Deployments > Next and select (click on) the JmsAdapter Select Configuration > Outbound Connection Pools and expand oracle.tip.adapter.jms.IJmsConnectionFactory. This will display the list of connections configured for this adapter. For example, eis/aqjms/Queue, eis/aqjms/Topic etc. These JNDI names are actually quite confusing. We are expecting to configure a connection pool here, but the names refer to queues and topics. One would expect these to be called *ConnectionPool or *_CF or similar, but to conform to this nomenclature, we will call our entry eis/wls/TestQueue . This JNDI name is also the name we will use later, when creating a BPEL process to access this JMS queue! Select New, check the oracle.tip.adapter.jms.IJmsConnectionFactory check box and Next. Enter JNDI Name: eis/wls/TestQueue for the connection instance, then press Finish. Expand oracle.tip.adapter.jms.IJmsConnectionFactory again and select (click on) eis/wls/TestQueue The ConnectionFactoryLocation must point to the JNDI name of the connection factory associated with the JMS queue you will be writing to. In our example, this is the connection factory called TestConnectionFactory, with the JNDI name jms/TestConnectionFactory.( As a reminder, this connection factory is contained in the JMS Module called TestJMSModule, under Services > Messaging > JMS Modules > TestJMSModule which we verified at the beginning of this document. )Enter jms/TestConnectionFactory into the Property Value field for Connection Factory Location. After entering it, you must press Return/Enter then Save for the value to be accepted. If your WebLogic server is running in Development mode, you should see the message that the changes have been activated and the deployment plan successfully updated. If not, then you will manually need to activate the changes in the WebLogic server console. Although the changes have been activated, the JmsAdapter needs to be redeployed in order for the changes to become effective. This should be confirmed by the message Remember to update your deployment to reflect the new plan when you are finished with your changes as can be seen in the following screen shot: The next step is to redeploy the JmsAdapter.Navigate back to the Deployments screen, either by selecting it in the left-hand navigation tree or by selecting the “Summary of Deployments” link in the breadcrumbs list at the top of the screen. Then select the checkbox next to JmsAdapter and press the Update button On the Update Application Assistant page, select “Redeploy this application using the following deployment files” and press Finish. After a few seconds you should get the message that the selected deployments were updated. The JMS adapter configuration is complete and it can now be used to access the JMS queue. To summarize: we have created a JMS adapter connection pool connector with the JNDI name jms/TestConnectionFactory. This is the JNDI name to be accessed by a process such as a BPEL process, when using the JMS adapter to access the previously created JMS queue with the JNDI name jms/TestJMSQueue. In the following step, we will set up a BPEL process to use this JMS adapter to write to the JMS queue. 3. Create a BPEL Composite with a JMS Adapter Partner Link This step requires that you have a valid Application Server Connection defined in JDeveloper, pointing to the application server on which you created the JMS Queue and Connection Factory. You can create this connection in JDeveloper under the Application Server Navigator. Give it any name and be sure to test the connection before completing it. This sample will use the connection name jbevans-lx-PS5, as that is the name of the connection pointing to my SOA PS5 installation. When using a JMS adapter from within a BPEL process, there are various configuration options, such as the operation type (consume message, produce message etc.), delivery mode and message type. One of these options is the choice of the format of the JMS message payload. This can be structured around an existing XSD, in which case the full XML element and tags are passed, or it can be opaque, meaning that the payload is sent as-is to the JMS adapter. In the case of an XSD-based message, the payload can simply be copied to the input variable of the JMS adapter. In the case of an opaque message, the JMS adapter’s input variable is of type base64binary. So the payload needs to be converted to base64 binary first. I will go into this in more detail in a later blog entry. This sample will pass a simple message to the adapter, based on the following simple XSD file, which consists of a single string element: stringPayload.xsd <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://www.example.org" targetNamespace="http://www.example.org" elementFormDefault="qualified" <xsd:element name="exampleElement" type="xsd:string"> </xsd:element> </xsd:schema> The following steps are all executed in JDeveloper. The SOA project will be created inside a JDeveloper Application. If you do not already have an application to contain the project, you can create a new one via File > New > General > Generic Application. Give the application any name, for example JMSTests and, when prompted for a project name and type, call the project JmsAdapterWriteWithXsd and select SOA as the project technology type. If you already have an application, continue below. Create a SOA Project Create a new project and choose SOA Tier > SOA Project as its type. Name it JmsAdapterWriteSchema. When prompted for the composite type, choose Composite With BPEL Process. When prompted for the BPEL Process, name it JmsAdapterWriteSchema too and choose Synchronous BPEL Process as the template. This will create a composite with a BPEL process and an exposed SOAP service. Double-click the BPEL process to open and begin editing it. You should see a simple BPEL process with a Receive and Reply activity. As we created a default process without an XML schema, the input and output variables are simple strings. Create an XSD File An XSD file is required later to define the message format to be passed to the JMS adapter. In this step, we create a simple XSD file, containing a string variable and add it to the project. First select the xsd item in the left-hand navigation tree to ensure that the XSD file is created under that item. Select File > New > General > XML and choose XML Schema. Call it stringPayload.xsd and when the editor opens, select the Source view. then replace the contents with the contents of the stringPayload.xsd example above and save the file. You should see it under the xsd item in the navigation tree. Create a JMS Adapter Partner Link We will create the JMS adapter as a service at the composite level. If it is not already open, double-click the composite.xml file in the navigator to open it. From the Component Palette, drag a JMS adapter over onto the right-hand swim lane, under External References. This will start the JMS Adapter Configuration Wizard. Use the following entries: Service Name: JmsAdapterWrite Oracle Enterprise Messaging Service (OEMS): Oracle Weblogic JMS AppServer Connection: Use an existing application server connection pointing to the WebLogic server on which the above JMS queue and connection factory were created. You can use the “+” button to create a connection directly from the wizard, if you do not already have one. This example uses a connection called jbevans-lx-PS5. Adapter Interface > Interface: Define from operation and schema (specified later) Operation Type: Produce Message Operation Name: Produce_message Destination Name: Press the Browse button, select Destination Type: Queues, then press Search. Wait for the list to populate, then select the entry for TestJMSQueue , which is the queue created earlier. JNDI Name: The JNDI name to use for the JMS connection. This is probably the most important step in this exercise and the most common source of error. This is the JNDI name of the JMS adapter’s connection pool created in the WebLogic Server and which points to the connection factory. JDeveloper does not verify the value entered here. If you enter a wrong value, the JMS adapter won’t find the queue and you will get an error message at runtime, which is very difficult to trace. In our example, this is the value eis/wls/TestQueue . (See the earlier step on how to create a JMS Adapter Connection Pool in WebLogic Server for details.) MessagesURL: We will use the XSD file we created earlier, stringPayload.xsd to define the message format for the JMS adapter. Press the magnifying glass icon to search for schema files. Expand Project Schema Files > stringPayload.xsd and select exampleElement: string. Press Next and Finish, which will complete the JMS Adapter configuration. Wire the BPEL Component to the JMS Adapter In this step, we link the BPEL process/component to the JMS adapter. From the composite.xml editor, drag the right-arrow icon from the BPEL process to the JMS adapter’s in-arrow. This completes the steps at the composite level. 4. Complete the BPEL Process Design Invoke the JMS Adapter Open the BPEL component by double-clicking it in the design view of the composite.xml, or open it from the project navigator by selecting the JmsAdapterWriteSchema.bpel file. This will display the BPEL process in the design view. You should see the JmsAdapterWrite partner link under one of the two swim lanes. We want it in the right-hand swim lane. If JDeveloper displays it in the left-hand lane, right-click it and choose Display > Move To Opposite Swim Lane. An Invoke activity is required in order to invoke the JMS adapter. Drag an Invoke activity between the Receive and Reply activities. Drag the right-hand arrow from the Invoke activity to the JMS adapter partner link. This will open the Invoke editor. The correct default values are entered automatically and are fine for our purposes. We only need to define the input variable to use for the JMS adapter. By pressing the green “+” symbol, a variable of the correct type can be auto-generated, for example with the name Invoke1_Produce_Message_InputVariable. Press OK after creating the variable. ( For some reason, while I was testing this, the JMS Adapter moved back to the left-hand swim lane again after this step. There is no harm in leaving it there, but I find it easier to follow if it is in the right-hand lane, because I kind-of think of the message coming in on the left and being routed through the right. But you can follow your personal preference here.) Assign Variables Drag an Assign activity between the Receive and Invoke activities. We will simply copy the input variable to the JMS adapter and, for completion, so the process has an output to print, again to the process’s output variable. Double-click the Assign activity and create two Copy rules: for the first, drag Variables > inputVariable > payload > client:process > client:input_string to Invoke1_Produce_Message_InputVariable > body > ns2:exampleElement for the second, drag the same input variable to outputVariable > payload > client:processResponse > client:result This will create two copy rules, similar to the following: Press OK. This completes the BPEL and Composite design. 5. Compile and Deploy the Composite We won’t go into too much detail on how to compile and deploy. In JDeveloper, compile the process by pressing the Make or Rebuild icons or by right-clicking the project name in the navigator and selecting Make... or Rebuild... If the compilation is successful, deploy it to the SOA server connection defined earlier. (Right-click the project name in the navigator, select Deploy to Application Server, choose the application server connection, choose the partition on the server (usually default) and press Finish. You should see the message ---- Deployment finished. ---- in the Deployment frame, if the deployment was successful. 6. Test the Composite This is the exciting part. Open two tabs in your browser and log in to the WebLogic Administration Console in one tab and the Enterprise Manager 11g Fusion Middleware Control (EM) for your SOA installation in the other. We will use the Console to monitor the messages being written to the queue and the EM to execute the composite. In the Console, go to Services > Messaging > JMS Modules > TestJMSModule > TestJMSQueue > Monitoring. Note the number of messages under Messages Current. In the EM, go to SOA > soa-infra (soa_server1) > default (or wherever you deployed your composite to) and click on JmsAdapterWriteSchema [1.0], then press the Test button. Under Input Arguments, enter any string into the text input field for the payload, for example Test Message then press Test Web Service. If the instance is successful you should see the same text in the Response message, “Test Message”. In the Console, refresh the Monitoring screen to confirm a new message has been written to the queue. Check the checkbox and press Show Messages. Click on the newest message and view its contents. They should include the full XML of the entered payload. 7. Troubleshooting If you get an exception similar to the following at runtime ... BINDING.JCA-12510 JCA Resource Adapter location error. Unable to locate the JCA Resource Adapter via .jca binding file element The JCA Binding Component is unable to startup the Resource Adapter specified in the element: location='eis/wls/QueueTest'. The reason for this is most likely that either 1) the Resource Adapters RAR file has not been deployed successfully to the WebLogic Application server or 2) the '' element in weblogic-ra.xml has not been set to eis/wls/QueueTest. In the last case you will have to add a new WebLogic JCA connection factory (deploy a RAR). Please correct this and then restart the Application Server at oracle.integration.platform.blocks.adapter.fw.AdapterBindingException. createJndiLookupException(AdapterBindingException.java:130) at oracle.integration.platform.blocks.adapter.fw.jca.cci. JCAConnectionManager$JCAConnectionPool.createJCAConnectionFactory (JCAConnectionManager.java:1387) at oracle.integration.platform.blocks.adapter.fw.jca.cci. JCAConnectionManager$JCAConnectionPool.newPoolObject (JCAConnectionManager.java:1285) ... then this is very likely due to an incorrect JNDI name entered for the JMS Connection in the JMS Adapter Wizard. Recheck those steps. The error message prints the name of the JNDI name used. In this example, it was incorrectly entered as eis/wls/QueueTest instead of eis/wls/TestQueue. This concludes this example. Best regards John-Brown Evans Oracle Technology Proactive Support Delivery

• Vista Power Management GPO

- by Matt
Hi, I've created a loopback GPO that has several settings (both computer and user) including a Custom User Interface (Access 2007 Application) and Power Management (has the computer sleep after being idle for 2 min). I'm also filtering so that this policy does not apply to "Admins" - only to "Users". The problem I'm having is when the "Users" login the Power Management settings don’t work, but they do for "Admins". For testing I'm allowing the "Users" to launch Task Manager and use the Run line, so I'll run Explorer and look at Power Management and it shows the settings from my GPO. So I created a test OU with copies of the aforementioned GPO, but removed the Custom User Interface and found the Power Management settings do work for both the "Users" and "Admins". When I add the Custom UI the Power Management settings break for the "User" but continue to work for "Admins". Do the Power Management options need to have User Interface be "Explorer.exe"? Is this a bug or am I doing this the wrong way? BTW the tablets are using Vista SP2. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

• How can I set up a 404 error page when people access http://ftp.mydomain.com?

- by Tim B.
I am a freelance videographer/developer, and part of my job involves transferring large files over FTP to production houses/television stations. While the majority of people in my industry understand the difference between FTP and HTTP, I've experienced several interactions in the past couple months of people who still open Internet Explorer and try to access http://ftp.mydomain.com, receive an error page served by HostGator, and tell me that they cannot access my FTP server. Instead of spending time delivering instructions via e-mail, I'd much prefer to serve up a custom error page in this instance that instructs them how to download and use an FTP client. I tried setting up a sub-domain in Cpanel hoping I could simply drop in an .htaccess file with the error page, but I got this error: ftp.mydomain.com domainadmin-domainexistsglobal I also tried creating a custom error page in PHP which reads the site URL and serves up the custom content only when http://ftp.mydomain.com is accessed. Unfortunately, the error page works for every subdomain except that one. I'm not entirely sure this is even technically possible, which is why I bring it to the good people of StackOverflow to help. Thanks!
