    Windows 7 computer running SQL Server Express 2008. When I try to run net start mssql$sqlexpress I receive an error: System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied The SQL service is running under "Network Service" account The service starts fine if I use the services window. Could somebody help me figure out why I am receiving this error?

    I am curious about if there is any project about a replacement for the current unix-shells (like bash, ash, rsh ...), at least adding some new ideas or paradigm in this area. I was searching but i found very few information, this project http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendly_interactive_shell seems interesting, but not so diferent from the nowadays solutions.   • Hide network shared folder contents from users view

    I have this folder which i need to share it out on the network to facilitate patching from another pc but yet i want to prevent users from viewing the contents of the folder, is there any solutions for this? if i hide the folder and share it out on the network, i realized that when the user do a //192.168.x.x/ from another pc , the folder contents will still be visible even if its hidden. What i wanted to achieve is that the user will be able to access folder thru the network but not able to see any files within the folder (meaning he shd see a empty folder). Is it possible???

  • System halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds

    I'm using Windows 7 on my HP ProBook 4250s. The problem I face is that my system halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds. These jerks are not letting me concentrate or work properly. This happens even when I'm just typing in notepad while no other application is running. I tried to install every driver from HP's website and there's no item in device manager marked with yellow icon.     Our application lets users call phone numbers. Users would like to be able to block their caller ID. On other platforms, we let the user specify a custom dialing prefix. For instance, on my cell provider it's #31#. I've tried two approaches so far.     I'm building a custom db deployment utility, I need to read text files containing sql scripts and execute them against the database. Pretty easy stuff, so far so good. However I've encountered a snag, the contents of the file are read successfully and entirely, but once passed into the SqlCommand and then executed with SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery only part of the script is executed.   • How would you design a question/answer view (iPhone SDK)

    I'm new to iPhone development, and I have a question on how to create a view for my application. The view should display a problem (using formatted/syntax highlighted text), and multiple possible answers. The user should be able to click on an answer to validate it. Currently, I am trying to use a UITableView embedding UIWebView as contentView. That allows me to display formatted text easily. The problem is that it is a real pain to compute and adjust the height of the cells. I have to preload the webview, call sizeToFit, get its height, and update the cell accordingly. This process should be done for the problem and the answers (as they are HTML formatted text too). It's such a pain that I am planning to switch to something else. I thought using only a big UIWebView and design everything in HTML. But I looked at some articles describing how to communicate between the HTML page and the ObjectiveC code. This seems to involve some awful tricks too... So... that's it, I don't really know what I should do. I guess some of you dealt with such things before, and would provide some greatly appreciated tips :)

    I've done some searching, but can't seem to find a way to do this. We'd like to proactively monitor our permgen space via JMX. It seems the best way to do this is through the UsageThreshold attribute on the "PS Perm Gen" MemoryPool. By default, this is set to 0. Is there a way to specify this, or any JMX attribute, as a -D parameter to VM so this can be set automatically at startup? Or is there another mechanism to load JMX attributes automatically? Thanks.

What I require: Ability to add tags to photos. Ability to move photos. I.e. if I set photos directory to /home/photos, but then I want to move all photos to e.g. /home/common/photos - I don't want to lose all the tags. I used to use FSpot and it was great, but it lacked point 2, and I lost everything :(

    My question will be hard to form, but to start: I have an MFC SDI app that I have worked on for an embarrassingly long time, that never seemed to fit the Doc/View architecture. I.e. there isn't anything useful in the Doc. It is multi-threaded and I need to do more with threading, etc. I dream about also porting it to Linux X Windows, but I know nothing about that programming environment as yet. Maybe Mac also. My question is where to go from here? I think I would like to convert from MFC Doc/View to straight Win API stuff with message loops and window procedures, etc. But the task seems to be huge. Does the Linux X Windows environment use a similar kind of message loop, window procedure architecture? Can I go part way? Like convert a little at a time without rendering my program unusable for long periods of work? What is the best book to read to help me to move in that direction.
