• UTF-8 xml file shows Gibberish

  I have a UTF-8 encoded xml file, which was exported from a Wordpress MySQL database. While the file is saved as UTF-8, and the encoding is UTF-8, I get gibberish instead of the Hebrew text that is supposed to be in there, which looks like this: ™×•×˜×•×ª How can I find the original encoding or charset and convert the text into proper Hebrew? PHP's mb_detect_encoding($str); returns UTF-8 Tried all sorts of php encoding functions, with different settings and input/output charsets, but they all just print different looking gibberish blocks, like: ÃâÃËÃâ¢Ãâ¢ÃËà and ?? ××©×ž× ...Any Ideas how to go about this?

• How to get debugging statements for Android in Eclipse

  I've read the lame documentation, and checked other answers. I'd like my Android app to print some debug statements in the logcat window of Eclispe. If I use the isLoggable method on the various types of debug levels on the Log class, I find that WARN and INFO are returning true. Log.w, and Log.i do not produce any output. Does anyone know which gotchas I've missed? And just to vent, why should this be hard? I've published apps for iphone and bberry and while appreciate the use of java, the platform is reeking of too many "genuiuses" being involved. I suppose Activities and Intents are very flexible, but why? I just want to put up some screens, take some input and show some results. The bberry pushscreen and popscreen is a lot less pretentious. • Get country location of an IP with native PHP

  Read on before you say this is a duplicate, it's not. (as far as I could see) I want to get the county code in php from the client. Yes I know you can do this using external sites or with the likes of "geoip_record_by_name" but I don't want to be dependent on an external site, and I can't install "pear" for php as im using shard Dreamhost hosting. I thought I could just do something like this: $output = shell_exec('whois '.$ip.' -H | grep country | awk \'{print $2}\''); echo "<pre>$output</pre>"; But dreamhost seems to have an old version of whois (4.7.5), so I get this error on allot of IPs: Unknown AS number or IP network. Please upgrade this program. So unless someone knows how to get a binary of a newer version of whois onto dreamhost im stuck. Or is there another way I could get the country code from the client who is loading the page?

• How to stop HTML text in textarea to be interpreted as code

  I have a textarea that users can edit. After the edit I save the text in a PHP variable $bio. When I want to display it I do this: <?php $bio = nl2br($bio); echo $bio; ?> But if a user for example types an HTML command like "strong" in their text my site will actually output the text as bold. Which is nothing I want. How can I print/echo the $bio on the screen just as text and not as HTML code? Thanks in advance!

That is as a product of the inner loop, the outer loop -- will never be executed more than 100 times, so it can be omitted. What I'm not sure about is the while clause, should it be incorporated into the Big-O complexity? For very large i values it could make an impact, or arithmetic operations, doesn't matter on what scale, count as basic operations and can be omitted?

• JavaScript data formatting/pretty printer

  I'm trying to find a way to 'pretty print' a JavaScript data structure in a human-readable form for debugging. I have a rather big and complicated data structure being stored in JS and I need to write some code to manipulate it. In order to work out what I'm doing and where I'm going wrong, what I really need is to be able to see the data structure in its entirety, and update it whenever I make changes through the UI. All of this stuff I can handle myself, apart from finding a nice way to dump a JavaScript data structure to a human-readable string. JSON would do, but it really needs to be nicely formatted and indented. I'd usually use Firebug's excellent DOM dumping stuff for this, but I really need to be able to see the entire structure at once, which doesn't seem to be possible in Firebug. Any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

I'm a bit concerned about that the user could place arbitrary strings in the url after the upload/ and this is directly mapped to the local filesystem. Actually I don't think that it is a vulnerability issue, since the access to the filesystem is restricted to the files in the folder defined with the UPLOAD_LOCATION setting. • vs2008 mystery: Quick macro record and playback shortcuts not allowed?

  in vs2008, Tools, Macros, Record TemporaryMacro keyboard shortcut toggle is Ctrl+Shift+R; Run TemporaryMacro keyboard shorcut is Ctrl+Shift+P for playback. I've used them before, but they've stopped working. If I open Tools, Options, Keyboard, then navigate to a command like Tools.Run that has no assigned keyboard shortcut, I can experiment by pretending to assign a keyboard shorcut: I simply click inside the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox and try different keystroke combinations. Examples: Ctrl+p: currently assigned to File.Print Ctrl+r: currently assigned to various uses Ctrl+Shift+Q: available Ctrl+Shift+B: currently assigned to Build.BuildSolution BUT vs2008 will not even allow me to type either of Ctrl+Shift+P or Ctrl+Shift+R in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. When I type those combinations, nothing appears in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. Please note: I can record and playback a temporary macro by using the menu commands, however, the mouse is like a turtle when compared to the keyboard. • SQL Server catch error from extended stored procedure

  Hello I have an extended stored procedure that sends an error message. srv_sendmsg(pSrvProc, SRV_MSG_ERROR, errorNum, SRV_FATAL_SERVER, 1, NULL, 0, (DBUSMALLINT) __LINE__, buff, SRV_NULLTERM); I've set the severity to SVR_FATAL_SERVER just as a test to see if I can cause the message to throw an exception in the sql. In my SQL i'm doing: BEGIN TRY EXEC dbo.xp_somethingCool SET @Error = @@ERROR END TRY BEGIN CATCH PRINT 'AN Error occoured!' SELECT ERROR_NUMBER() AS ErrorNumber ,ERROR_MESSAGE() AS ErrorMessage; END CATCH I would think that when my xp sends the error message the tsql would catch the error and select the error_number and error_message. Instead what ends up happening is that the xp sends the message and the T-SQL continues on its way like nothing happened. The @@Error variable doesn't get set either. So I was wondering if there was any trick to getting SQL to catch an error from an XP ? Thanks, Raul

• Stop VBA Evaluate from calling target function twice

  I am having trouble getting VBA's Evaluate() function to only execute once; it seems to always run twice. For instance, consider the trivial example below. If we run the RunEval() subroutine, it will call the EvalTest() function twice. This can be seen by the two different random numbers that get printed in the immediate window. The behavior would be the same if we were calling another subroutine with Evaluate instead of a function. Can someone explain how I can get Evaluate to execute the target function once instead of twice? Thank you.   I have the following code in a project that write's the ascii representation of packet to a unix tty: int written = 0; int start_of_data = 3; //write data to fifo while (length) { if ((written = write(fifo_fd, &packet[start_of_data], length)) == -1) { printf("Error writing to FIFO\n"); } else { length -= written; } } I just want to take the data that would have been written to the socket and put it in a variable. to debug, I have just been trying to printf the first letter/digit. I have tried numerous ways to get it to print out, but I keep getting hex forms (I think). The expected output is: 13176 and the hex value is: 31 33 31 37 36 0D 0A (if that is even hex) Obviously my C skills are not the sharpest tools in the shed. Any help would be appreciated.

  Hi there I can take snapshot of a component. But the problem is the component is lil bigger with scroll bars. The saved image has scrollbars (only the visible area is getting saved). What i need is I want the entire component to be saved as an image. This exact functionality is available while we print the component using FlexPrintJob, where by setting the FlexPrintJobScaleType.NONE. But here in my case i want it to be saved using ImageSnapShot ( not thru FlexPrintJob ). Thanks Advance, Sriss

  Hi, I would like to know if it is functionally wrong to page-fault a user-space address when kernel is running fault-handler to bring in a user-page. OS is Linux 2.6.30 Assume that both user-addresses are valid ( falling within vma , rw permission ) for the task. When I check the kernel code, i find that the kernel does not mind the nested fault if the faulted-addresses are valid and the fault did not occur in atomic-context or in irq handler. (I dont think the answer is cpu-specific, but I would add that i am interested in arm and mips ). eg : The scenario can happen if I print stack-data from page-fault handler. thanks shankar

  Hi all, I am trying to get started with JSON in Python, but it seems that I misunderstand something in the JSON concept. I followed the google api example, which works fine. But when I change the code to a lower level in the JSON response (as shown below, where I try to get access to the location), I get the following error message for code below: Traceback (most recent call last): File "geoCode.py", line 11, in test = json.dumps([s['location'] for s in jsonResponse['results']], indent=3) KeyError: 'location' How can I get access to lower information level in the JSON file in python? Do I have to go to a higher level and search the result string? That seems very weird to me?
