  • Are there any Acrobat plugins or standalone programs that allow one to select and extract individual

    We use BCL Jade currently but are running into problems because it isn't supported or sold anymore, doesn't work on Acrobat 8 or 9, and has some other issues. Other than that though it works great! :) Is there anything like it that allows users to select zones to extract? I see a simaler question on here and and an answer that suggests this http://pdftohtml.sourceforge.net/ but ideally we would want something nonprogrammers could use.

  • Cannot access certain URL on my wireless

    Problem: On my wireless network at home, there is one URL that I just cannot access with my browser: http://research.microsoft.com/ I have no problems with the Internet connection otherwise. But on that address I just get The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. from Firefox. I am using a DSL modem (Westell) and Linksys wireless router (using DHCP). When I use my neighbor's wireless connection I can access the microsoft site without a problem. Additional technical details: But with my connection, here is what I get from nslookup.   • How to make Chrome spell check the whole text field?

    On Firefox, whenever a word is incorrect in a text field, it is underlined in red. Chrome does the same but the difference is that it underlines in red only when I move the caret over the word. So if I want to spell check the whole text field, I have to move the caret from the beginning to the end of the text field. Is it possible to make Chrome works more like Firefox and spell check the entire text field automatically?

  • Windows 7: Menu 'New->Text document' is missing, when not admin user

    Hi, when I'm logged in as a user that is not member of the administrator group the entry to create a new textfile is missing from the right click "New" menu. If I give the user admin rights or start the explorer with admin rights the "New - text document" menu entry magically appears. As far as I can see the registry entries are correct. Anybody got a solution for that side effect of beeing a normal user in windows?? Regards

  • DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

    I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). A very similar issue is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/direct3d-acceleration-is-not-available-in-windows/4c345e6e-dc68-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=1 The proposed answer, which looks very promising, doesn't seem to work for me. Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used.     Hi. I have been using TrueCrypt for a long time now. However, someone pointed me to a link that described the problems with the license. IANAL and so it really didn't make much sense to me, however I wanted my encryption software to be open source - not because I could hack into it but because I could trust it. Some of the issues with it I have noticed: There is no VCS for the source code. Is this OK? There are no change logs. The forums are a bad place to be. They ban even if you ask a genuine question. Who really owns TrueCrypt? There were some reports of tinkering with the md5 checksums. To be honest, the only reason why I used TrueCrypt was because it was open source. But however, somethings are just not right. Has anyone ever validated the security of TrueCrypt? Should I really be worried? Yes I am paranoid; if I use an encryption software, I trust it with all my life. If all my concerns are genuine, is there any other open source alternative to TrueCrypt?

  • ASUS N56VZ-S4209P Screen saver, Screen dimming,sleep/hibernation mode not working according to power management settings

    I have a problem with my ASUS N56VZ-S4209P(Win8, I7-3630QM) laptop. If I use the fn+f7 command to turn off the screen it turns on by itself after a few seconds (the time varies between 1-10 seconds). In addition to this my screensaver doesn't activate at all and the laptop doesn't dim its screen after X minutes or goes into sleep/hibernation mode as specified in the power options when plugged in or on battery. As far as my knowledge goes it's not caused by the mouse or track pad at all since I can unplug my mouse and disable the track pad but the problem persist. I presume this is caused by the same problem? Does anyone know of a fix for this problem? It would be greatly appreciated. . . . I seem to have found a solution to the problem related to the screen that turns itself on again. The Power4Gear application has a setting which enables you to turn a "Presentation mode" "On" and "Off", if that setting is "Off" then it doesn't turn the screen on without any human interaction. Thus that part of the problem is fixed.

  • MacPorts, Fink, etc.

    On my Mac OS X (10.5, soon to be 10.6) machine, how would you recommend I install various software that's been ported from Linux? I don't install such software very frequently, but I've been using MacPorts and it always seems quite slow, presumably because it has to compile the packages on-the-fly. I'd much prefer a package management system that has binary packages, saving me the need to compile things every time I want to download something new. I think Fink has binaries for some of the packages, but I usually see MacPorts recommended as the system to use. Which do you think works better and why? (Or is there another system that I haven't heard of?)

  • graphics-card makes sound-card produce a buzzing sound

    Recently I bought a new GPU: GeForce GTX 550 Ti, and after installing it I get a strange buzzing sound. It's not always there, just sometimes (mostly when I open some game, but sometimes also in browsers etc.). It's not a capacitor or a fan, as unplugging speakers from sound-card makes the 'bzzzzzzz' go away. However, muting windows doesn't mute this sound. I'm pretty sure it is fault of the new GPU, but how is this happening and can I fix it? Can it be a low power supply? I thought of buying a stronger unit, but as everything works, and computer doesn't shut down, I hesitate.

  • Word 2010 not printing body text on pages with images

    I've got a document exhibiting bizarre behavior -- when I print, the body text style is only displayed on pages without images. Headings, header and footer, and captions are printing on the page, along with any graphics such as border styles applied to the style, but the text itself doesn't print -- except for en dashes. The text is pretty basic -- a justified Calibri style. Images are their own style, a centered paragraph item. There's no floating image boxes or text boxes going on, everything's a paragraph style. It's not a print driver issue. I get identical behavior on both a HP and Brother laser printer. It's also not a paragraph-level style issue; I've inserted enough dummy text to move a printing paragraph on a page with no images to the next page, which has an image, and the paragraph does not print on the next page. Has anyone run into an issue like this and knows the solution?

    I've been trying to get this to work and I'm really close, but something still isn't right. I have a 14 second clip I'm trying to cut out of a longer mp4 video. I got the video to cut to the right place with this command: ffmpeg -ss 00:05:13.0 -i ~/videos/trim_me.mp4 -vcodec h264 -acodec copy -t 00:00:14.0 ~/videos/trimmed.mp4 If I didn't specify -vcodec it was starting from an "I-Frame" (I guess) and wasn't the right place. The audio is starting from that spot as well, so I tried setting -acodec the same way: ffmpeg -ss 00:05:13.0 -i ~/videos/trim_me.mp4 -vcodec h264 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ab 225k -ar 48000 -strict -2 -t 00:00:14.0 ~/videos/trimmed.mp4 Which doesn't really help much. Setting -async 1 makes it take longer, and then the audio does match up, but not until 4 seconds into the video. :/ I'd ideally not like to install anything else and have a commandline solution for this.

  • Burn DVD mastered format DVD+R

    Using windows Vista, can I write DVD+R discs using mastered format? I've followed the instructions here But when I get to step 6, it gives an error "There was an error burning this disc. The disc might no longer be usable" There are no dollar signs in my files or extensions, and I have plenty of free space on my HD. I can successfully make a data disc using "live" format. Unfortunately my colleges home (XP) PC is unable to read it, despite the fact that it works on other XP machines at work... so I thought I'd try making a mastered one for greater compatibility. Any ideas?

  • Need to Connect 2 HDMI between Onboard and Add-In GPUs - What's the consequences?

    If i plug a second hdmi cable into my onboard video output (my dedicated add-in only has one hdmi port) will it use my video card or the onboard for that display? Also, what is the difference in quality between HDMI and DVI? I do have a DVI to HDMI adapter and cable that I could use alternatively if the above is not in my best interest. This is a gaming related question as I will be gaming off the two displays, hopefully in the highest of quality.

  • Windows 7 forgets my default settings

    Hi All I recently bought a new computer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I only have one small problem though. I have the option "Show Window Contents While Dragging" enabled, but everytime I restart the computer, it reverts back to DISabled. The only thing i could think of is the system requirements etc. But this is not the case as my computer more than meets the full requirements. Can somebody help me please? Thank you
