Updated, user-oriented and business information balanced navigational categories. Say hello to the new categories: Downloads, Education and Oracle Technology Network. Oracle Partner Network navigation received a facelift too. 2. Brand new flyout based navigation - mouse over Partners for instance - providing both a high level content overview as well as shortcut links for most popular website destinations 3. Introducing audience based - I'm a... - and - I want to... - task-based navigation. Now you can navigate based on who you are or what is you want to accomplish. • Installation of Tex Live via the terminal 12.04

  I need to install upstream version of TeX Live for 12.04 to edit the manual for Ubuntu. I am having a difficult time installing it per the directions @ http://ubuntu-manual.org/getinvolved/editors#install-texlive. TeX Live documents are on my computer, but I am not able to run the install. No TeX Live program found on my computer. Any help is greatly appreciated! ~Thanx!~ Hello, my name is Chris. • Oracle Magazine: Getting started with SQL Analytics

  I am currently working on a series of podcasts covering the broad categories of our SQL analytical functions and features and while I was doing some research I came across of series of four articles in the Oracle Magazine. This series of article is written by Melanie Caffrey who is a senior development manager at Oracle. She is a coauthor of Expert PL/SQL Practices for Oracle Developers and DBAs (Apress, 2011) and Expert Oracle Practices: Oracle Database Administration from the Oak Table (Apress, 2010). The four articles are under the banner "Technology: SQL 101" and parts 9, 10, 11 and 12 cover SQL analytics. • Domains with similar names and legal issues

  I recently purchased one of those domain names like del.icio.us. While registering I found that delicious.com was being used. Argument: I found that delicious.com belonged to the same category as my to-be website. It served premium delicious dishes. Counter Argument: My to-be domain though belonging to the same category, specialized in serving free but delicious dishes or in giving out links(affiliate) to other sites serving premium delicious dishes. Additional Counter Arguments: 1.delicious.com was not in English. 2.the del.icio.us in my domain name though having the same spelling, is not going to be used in the same fashion. For eg.(this may not make sense, because the names have been changed)the d in delicious on my website actually stands for the greek letter Delta(?/d) and since internationalized domains are still not easily typable, I am going for the english equivalent.The prefix holds importance for the theme of the service which my website intends to offer. My Question: Can I use the domain name del.icio.us for my website? How are these kinds of matters dealt? (The domain names used are fictitious. And I have already registered the domain but have not started using it.I chanced upon this domain name because it was short, easy to remember and suited the theme of my website.)

• apt-get upgrade gives "403 forbidden" error

I also do not believe a server being down is causing this, as the problem has been there over a month. Any ideas on how to fix this?

• Installing all the bits to demo Entity Framework 4 on the Visual Studio 2010 Release Candidate

  Next week (17th March 2010) I am presenting on EF4 at www.devweek.com in London (and Azure on the 18th). Today I wanted to get all the latest bits on my demo machine and also check if there are any cool new resources I can point people at. Whilst most of the new improvements in Entity Framework come with the Visual Studio 2010 RC (and the RTM), there are a couple of separate items you need to install if you want to explore all the features. To demo EF4 you need: Visual Studio 2010 RC Download and install the Visual Studio 2010 Release Candidate. In my case I went from the Ultimate Edition but it will work fine on Premium and Professional. POCO Templates See the team blog post for a detailed explanation. Use the Extension Manager inside Visual Studio 2010: And install the updated POCO templates for either C# or VB (or both if you are so inclined!): Code First Next you will also need to install Code First (formally called Code Only). This is part of the Entity Framework Feature CTP 3. See the team blog post for a detailed explanation. Download the CTP from Microsoft downloads and run the setup. • Oracle in Romania - 1: Brand new office, "Greenest in Bucharest"

  The importance of Romania within Oracle's global operations was underlined the other day as a marvellous new office building was opened at Floreasca Park in Bucharest.  The importance of the new facility was further underlined by presence of Oracle President Safra Catz, who participated in the opening ceremony. Seen here opening the building alongside Oracle Romania country leader Sorin Mindrutescu, Safra Catz said, "Our presence in Bucharest is significant and the work our teams are doing here is hugely valuable to our company and to our customers and partners. Our expansion in Bucharest signals our success in the region and commitment to making a positive contribution to the Romanian economy." The office itself looks very impressive, as the photos above show.  But more importantly, it is a cutting edge "green" office building in Bucharest, offering modern, environmentally friendly solutions such as a geo-thermal pump for heating and cooling, eco-friendly and chemical free materials used in walls and floors, a complex shading system, a bio diversity garden, and water and electricity saving equipment throughout the building. Floreasca Park is styled "the greenest office building in Bucharest" and its environmental credentials are laid out in full in a comprehensive infographic. Finally, Oracle's commitment to its Romanian operation was recognised as the company is proud to have been voted the most desired employer in Romania in surveys conducted by Catalyst Solutions and Brainspotting Consultancy. So, here's to the success of the Romanian operation, an important part of Oracle's global business and further testament to the importance of EMEA's contribution to the company's success. • Demo on Data Guard Protection From Lost-Write Corruption

  Today I received the news a new demo has been made available on OTN for Data Guard protection from lost-write corruption. Since this is a typical MAA solution and a very nice demo I decided to mention this great feature also in this blog even while it's a recommended best practice for some time. When lost writes occur an I/O subsystem acknowledges the completion of the block write even though the write I/O did not occur in the persistent storage. On a subsequent block read on the primary database, the I/O subsystem returns the stale version of the data block, which might be used to update other blocks of the database, thereby corrupting it.  Lost writes can occur after an OS or storage device driver failure, faulty host bus adapters, disk controller failures and volume manager errors. In the demo a data block lost write occurs when an I/O subsystem acknowledges the completion of the block write, while in fact the write did not occur in the persistent storage. When a primary database lost write corruption is detected by a Data Guard physical standby database, Redo Apply (MRP) will stop and the standby will signal an ORA-752 error to explicitly indicate a primary lost write has occurred (preventing corruption from spreading to the standby database).   Possible Duplicate: How do you manage your knowledge base? Hello. Now I am using easy writing pad for scratches while doing some researches, solving troubles or doing workarounds. But.. you now, it's really difficult to remember all details of founded solution and it's alternatives after few months. And writing pad is not wery useful. Usually writing pad doesn't contains half of needed inforation: links founded in internet, output of some test commands and etc. Now I'am looking for a tool for storing information about my researches and it's results. Basic reqirements: ability to store files; ability to store formatted text (kind of HTML will be nice) with hyperlinks and code snippets; tags on notes; easy to use. Now I'am thinking about some kind of file-system organized storage, but I think it will be inconvenient. Another thinks is local wiki or blog. So, my question is: How do you organize you knowlege base? What tools do you use, and what "pros and cons".

Now you can close all of your tabs with a single click, and have just one ready to go with the Close all Tabs extension. Before We all find ourselves with a lot of tabs open sooner or later. That is not so bad until we realize that we need to close all of them and get back to work. A person could open a new tab and manually close the rest or close the entire window and restart Chrome. But a single click solution would be a lot more convenient. After There it is…the single click solution. Just click the Toolbar Button and BOOM! One fresh window with a single new tab page showing. Now if you could only take the rest of the day off… Conclusion The Close all Tabs extension may not be something that everyone would use, but if you are tired of manually closing all of those tabs then you will definitely like it. • Oracle Database 12c By Example – SQL Developer and Multitenant

  As you may have heard, Oracle Database 12c is now available. In addition to the binaries and docs going out, we also published a few new Oracle By Example (OBE) chapters. You can find those links here on our product page. Do you know who found these, practically the minute they were published? An enterprising DBA-extraordinaire who was just happening to be presenting at the ODTUG KScope13 conference in New Orleans. He thought it would be a good idea to download the new software over a hotel WIFI, install and create a new multitenant database, watch a few OBEs, and then demo that live for his ‘SQL Developer for DBAs‘ session. Pretty crazy, right? Well, he did it, and I was there to watch. Way cool. You can listen to @leight0nn tell his story in his own words via this ODTUG interview with @oraclenered. In case you’re too giddy to sit through the video, I’ll give you a preview – he succesfully cloned a pluggable database in about a minute with only a couple of clicks using Oracle SQL Developer 3.2.20.09 while connected to a 12c database.

Ok, that does sound like marketing speak (and it is) but the good news is there is some meat behind it. We have some decent new features coming and we also have some clarity on when we will be able to get our hands on those features. • Ubuntu...I love you, I hate you

   I have been working on seeing if a .NET 3.5 application will port over to Linux, Ubuntu to be specific. I started with version 9.01, then 9.10 and now 10.04 as I find more and more that I need from Mono. I have a dual boot on a dev box, Windows 7 and Ubuntu. An upgrade from Ubuntu 9.01 to 9.10 caused my mouse and keyboard to lock up. I was able to boot from a 9.10 cd. Then, I upgraded to 10.04 as I needed Mono 2,2. Upgrade worked, lost my windows boot though. it seems grub somehow jumped in and messed up the windows boot. After Googlign liek crazy and trying this and that, these 2 links finally got me my windows boot back:http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/bootinfoscript/index.php?title=Boot_Problems:Boot_Sector http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392So, I am now thinking about trying SuSe instead as I hear\read it's more stable. • WordPress is now nicely supported on SQL Server (and SQL Azure for that matter)

  WordPress is enormously popular for blogs and full websites thanks to an awesome eco system which has built up around it, the simplicity (relatively) of getting it up and running plus the flexibility to “bend it” in all sorts of directions. When I say bend, check out the following which are all WordPress sites My “back up blog” http://iupdateable.wordpress.com/  My groups “odd site” :) http://ubelly.com My favourite “cheap games” site http://www.frugalgaming.co.uk/  WordPress users typically run their sites on Linux and MySQL, although PHP (the language in which WordPress is written) can be happily run on Windows. Both fine technologies in their own right, but for me (and probably a fair few others) I would love to use WordPress but with the technologies I know best (aka Windows, IIS and SQL Server). However, that has proven to be actually rather tricky in practice to get working – until now. Earlier last month OmniTI released a patch for WordPress which provides SQL Server and SQL Azure support.  In parallel with that some fine folks inside Microsoft have also created http://wordpress.visitmix.com which contains information about running WordPress on the Microsoft platform with a particular focus on SQL Server and SQL Azure.  Top stuff! • Microsoft , Hotmail , Live , MSN, Outlook , unable to send emails and no support received from microsoft in 3 months we are trying asking for that

  Ok this is somenthing unbelievable, we have a website, users sign up and receives links to confirm they signed up BUT: 1 - microsoft blocked our IP (no one with microsoft email account can receive our emails) 2 - we tryed contacting microsoft submitting the detailed form about our problem 3 - we posted 3 times in their community about our problem 4 - we tweeted they about our problem 5 - we tryed finding out some telephone support number (the few there are arent' helping at all) Do you think we solved? the answer is NO :/ We still unable to send emails from our IP to microsoft email accounts, since 3 months back. Our emails are perfect we checked all the email headers following microsoft guidelines but it seems not enought, checking our IP reputation it seems everythings ok, indeed we can send email easly to any other provider , gmail, yahoo, etc Do you know any other way to try to get help ? FULL ERROR RETURNED BY MICROSOFT: host mx1.hotmail.com[65.55.37.120] said: 550 SC-001 (COL0-MC4-F28) Unfortunately, messages from 94.23.***** weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors. (in reply to MAIL FROM command) We are running NGIX + php mailer from a Virtual Private Server (No Hosting or shared hosting)

• Website restyle, SEO migration plan?

  I am currently in a project for one of my biggest clients. We have built a website that will -replace- the old website. When it comes to actual content its is largely the same. However, the presentation of the content has changed drastically. From our point of view much more user-friendly (main reason to update the site). Now, since the sites presentation has changed we have some major changes in: HTML & CSS: To change the presentation of the content URL's: To make them better understandable (301 redirects have been taken care of and are in place) Breadcrumbs: To enhance the navigation (we have made the breadcrumbs match exactly with the url's) Pagination: This was added to enable content browsing Title tags: Added descriptive title tags to the major links and buttons. Basically all user content including meta tags have remained the same. Now since this company is rather successful and 90% of its clients come from Google's organic results I am obliged to take all necessary precautions. People tell me I need a migration plan to prevent the site being hurt in Google, but I have never worked using such a plan... ...So, based on the above. Would you consider a migration plan necessary and what precautions/actions would you recommend to prevent us being put down in our SERP positions? Many thanks in advance for your answers.
