It covers hardware level (CPU/PMU, Performance Monitoring Unit) features and software features (software counters, tracepoints) as well. Since 2.6.33, the kernel provide 'perf_event_create_kernel_counter' kernel api for developers to create kernel counter to collect system runtime information. What I concern most is the performance impact on overall system when tracepoint/ftrace is enabled. There are no docs I can find about them. I was once told that ftrace was implemented by dynamically patching code, will it slow the system dramatically?

• Use different updatetargetid based on view

  I have a web page which display a list of items in a HTML table. Above the list is a form which allows the user to add a new item to the list via AJAX (using Ajax.BeginForm). When the data is posted to the controller via AJAX I add the new item to the database backend and generate a new table row via a Partial View which then gets appended to the exisiting table. When the form to add new items however contains errors, I want to render the form back to the web browser and display that. So here is the question: Is it possible to specify the UpdateTargetId from within the controller? At the moment whatever View I return from the controller gets inserted in the same target, but I would like to update a different target (ie. different UpdateTargetId) based on whatever view was returned from the controller. Any help would be appreciated...

But to show status anytime , do i need to use a thread to continuously read and display the power status? I am thinking of using event handler. But not sure how to implement.   What I'm trying to achieve is basically have a code that will morph ( move around the page ) based on the part of the window which is currently viewed. Scenario : - actual page height : 2000px - actual screen height( pc, laptop whatever ) : 800px - 1 image of 600px - 3 div's or virtual boxes ( just to prove what I want to do ) Workflow When you open the page, you'd see the first part of the page with the image loaded in the first div. What I want and need to achieve is when scrolling the page, and the focus would be on the second div ( or the image simply gets out of focus - you can't see it no more ), the image would move ( disappear from the first box ) and appear in the second one, which is currently visible. The idea might seem pretty easy but I'm not Javascript savvy. Ideally, the answer should include a way to load a Javascript instead of that image.

  Is there a way to route traffic to a target WCF service file based on the URL domain requested? Basically, I have a single WCF RESTful services project with 3 service files offering different endpoints. It's hosted on a single IIS6 site looking for multiple host header values on port 80. I want to route traffic to different services files whether the requester is asking for www.site1.com, www.site2.com, or www.site3.com. Seems like the sort of thing I would use a global.asax or HTTP Handler for, but I am not sure since this is a regular WCF Service Application. Even though I am on IIS6 for this project, I don't mind using a URL re-writer and wildcard mapping, if I have to. I have admin rights on the balanced servers where this will reside, I just want to know if there is a common/best practice before I start hacking my way around this.

  Hi, I have SharePoint site and I want to use form-based authentication, not Windows how it is by default. For this I read that I have to modify the web.config from Central Administration and web.config from my site with the membership and roleManager tags configured properly.   I got exception when I tried to delete one NSManageObject at the event of tableView:commiteEditingStyle:forRowAtIndexPath:. This is the exception message: uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'The NSManagedObject with ID:0x3d07a30 <x-coredata://0D2CC9CB-042B-496D-B3FE-5F1ED64EAB97/paymentType/p2> has been invalidated.' I tried to get entity object first and then to delete it. The entity looks OK but still the exception was at delete: NSManagedObject *entityToDelete = [fetchedResultsController objectAtIndexPath:indexPath]; [mangedObjectContext deleteObject:entityToDelete]; // Exception again. I am not sure if the entity object retrieved from the fetchedResultsController(NSFetchedResultsController type) cannot be deleted? If so, is there any other way to get the entity object for deleting?

• ASP.Net Treeview - Client side event handling (jQuery??)

  I have a Treeview (bog standard ASP.Net Treeview) that is bound to an Xml source which allows the user to navigate to various parts of our system. Nothing special.... However, I wanted to generate a breadcrumb for use in the main content area on the client side when the user clicks a node in the Treeview control. I know there are mechanisms available for breadcrumb generation (such as site maps) but for various reasons I need to do it when a node is clicked. So far hooking up a click event using the document ready function available as part of jQuery is easy. However, having spent sometime looking I can not see how I navigate back up the tree nodes to get to each parent nodes text value to build the breadcrumb. I have been playing with .parent(), .parents() and .closest() available via jQuery but don't seem to be getting anywhere. Has anyone done anything like this or can anyone provide a better method? Thanks in advance....

The onclick or JQuery change events are triggered when a select list item is selected by being clicked on (mouse), but not when the user uses key presses (keyboard). • What are the advantages / disadvantages of a Cloud-based / Web-based IDE?

  I'm writing this as DevConnections in Las Vegas is happening. Visual Studio 2010 has been released and I now have this 3GB beast installed to my machine. (I'll admit, it has some nice features.) However, while the install was monopolizing my computer's resources I began to wish that my IDE worked more like Google Documents (instantly available, available anywhere, easy to share, easy to collaborate, naturally versioned). A few Google (and StackOverflow) searches led me to : Coderun Bespin I'm well aware that these IDE's are missing a lot of what exists in VS 2010. However, that isn't my question. Instead, I'm wondering what benefits a web-based IDE might have? Assuming a company invests the time to create the missing features, what is the downside?

Are there any functions I can use to do some math that would return "10/01/2010"?   I am looking at several projects, all with roughly the same fucntionality. Some instruments collect some data (or control some functionality). They commmunicate by Internet (Etehrnet/wifi/GPRS/sasatellite) with a databse server which stores the measurements and provides a browser based means of qeurying the data, prodcuing reports, etc (and possibly also allows control of the remote equipment). Can anyone recommend a good book describing an approach to developing such a software architecture, keeping it generic, which tools, languages. test methods, etc to use? (note to self: ask a similar question about possible existing frameworks)

  I'm having a tough time trying to find clear and concise examples of how one would implement a service-based authentication scheme using tokens. As far as I can tell, the basic steps are as follows: Client requests username/password from user Client passes username/password to identity provider Provider checks username/password and sends back a token if the user is valid Client does something with the token? The third and fourth step are where I'm getting stuck. I assume the "token" in this case just has to be either an encrypted string that the client can decrypt or some random string that gets stored somewhere (i.e. a database) that the client can then verify against, but I'm not really sure what the client is then supposed to do with the token or why you even need a token at all -- couldn't a simple user ID also suffice?

  I need to generate windows form fields based off of a text file that I am parsing. I also want to automatically generate validation event handlers which all will be basically the same only the form field and the regular expression which is used to validate the field will change. I'm having a difficult time figuring out the quickest and easiest method to go about doing this. Any pointers in the right direction would really be great, maybe even some keywords that I'm missing. • Stopping function on event in vb.net

  I have a vb.net application which does some processing. This processing can take a while. The application doesn't respond until the processing has ended and then it handle all events (such as click on buttons) that the user has done during the processing. I'd like to add a "Stop" button so that the user can stop the processing at some point. How can I do that? Could threading the processing (which is done in a function of the application) be a possible solution? I tried to add a button which change a boolean value and putting the code of the processing function inside a while statement based on that boolean value. However it doesn't work because the click event on the button is processed only after the end of the processing.

  I have a table called expenses. There are numerous columns but the ones involved in my php page are date, spplierinv, amount. I have created a page that lists all the expenses in a given month and totals it at the end. However, each row has a value, but many rows might be on the same supplier invoice.This means adding each row with the same supplierinv to get a total as per my bank statement. Is there anyway I can get a total for the rows based on the supplierinv. I mean say I have 10 rows. 5 on supplierinv 4, two on supplierinv 5 and 3 on supplierinv 12, how can a get 3 figures (inv 4, 5 and 12) and the grand total at the bottom. Many thanks

  Hi, Im loading an entity 'Member' from its id in route data. [ListItemsForMembershipType(true)] public ActionResult Edit(Member someMember) {...} The attribute on the action loads the membership type list items for a dropdown box and sticks it in viewdata. This is fine for add forms, and search forms (it gets all active items) but I need the attribute to execute BASED ON THE VALUE someMember.MembershipTypeId, because its current value must always be present when loading the item (i.e. all active items, plus the one from the loaded record). So the question is, what is the standard pattern for this? How can my attribute accept the value or should I be loading the viewdata for the drop down in a controller supertype or during model binding or something else? It is in an attribute now because the code to set the viewdata would otherwise be duplicated in each usage in each action.
