  • When constructing a Bitmap with Bitmap.FromHbitmap(), how soon can the original bitmap handle be del

    - by GBegen
From the documentation of Image.FromHbitmap() at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/k061we7x%28VS.80%29.aspx : The FromHbitmap method makes a copy of the GDI bitmap; so you can release the incoming GDI bitmap using the GDIDeleteObject method immediately after creating the new Image. This pretty explicitly states that the bitmap handle can be immediately deleted with DeleteObject as soon as the Bitmap instance is created. Looking at the implementation of Image.FromHbitmap() with Reflector, however, shows that it is a pretty thin wrapper around the GDI+ function, GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP(). There is pretty scant documentation on the GDI+ flat functions, but http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms533971%28VS.85%29.aspx says that GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP() corresponds to the Bitmap::Bitmap() constructor that takes an HBITMAP and an HPALETTE as parameters. The documentation for this version of the Bitmap::Bitmap() constructor at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536314%28VS.85%29.aspx has this to say: You are responsible for deleting the GDI bitmap and the GDI palette. However, you should not delete the GDI bitmap or the GDI palette until after the GDI+ Bitmap::Bitmap object is deleted or goes out of scope. Do not pass to the GDI+ Bitmap::Bitmap constructor a GDI bitmap or a GDI palette that is currently (or was previously) selected into a device context. Furthermore, one can see the source code for the C++ portion of GDI+ in GdiPlusBitmap.h that the Bitmap::Bitmap() constructor in question is itself a wrapper for the GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP() function from the flat API: inline Bitmap::Bitmap( IN HBITMAP hbm, IN HPALETTE hpal ) { GpBitmap *bitmap = NULL; lastResult = DllExports::GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP(hbm, hpal, &bitmap); SetNativeImage(bitmap); } What I can't easily see is the implementation of GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP() that is the core of this functionality, but the two remarks in the documentation seem to be contradictory. The .Net documentation says I can delete the bitmap handle immediately, and the GDI+ documentation says the bitmap handle must be kept until the wrapping object is deleted, but both are based on the same GDI+ function. Furthermore, the GDI+ documentation warns against using a source HBITMAP that is currently or previously selected into a device context. While I can understand why the bitmap should not be selected into a device context currently, I do not understand why there is a warning against using a bitmap that was previously selected into a device context. That would seem to prevent use of GDI+ bitmaps that had been created in memory using standard GDI. So, in summary: Does the original bitmap handle need to be kept around until the .Net Bitmap object is disposed? Does the GDI+ function, GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP(), make a copy of the source bitmap or merely hold onto the handle to the original? Why should I not use an HBITMAP that was previously selected into a device context?

  • can ServiceLocator.Current.GetInstance return null?

    - by mauricio076
I have this piece of code (or similar) in many of our views: private IEventAggregator eventAggregator; Constructor() { eventAggregator = ServiceLocator.Current.GetInstance<IEventAggregator>(); ... } I read from this post that ServiceLocator.Current can throw NullReferenceException (bad thing on a constructor) but I was wondering if the GetInstance<() method can return null (or some other inconsistent object) making eventAggregator dangerous to use later in other methods. NOTE: I'm quite new to MVVM and WPF

  • Wrapping a pure virtual method with multiple arguments with Boost.Python

  • .NET asmx web services: serialize object property as string property to support versioning

    - by mcliedtk
I am in the process of upgrading our web services to support versioning. We will be publishing our versioned web services like so: http://localhost/project/services/1.0/service.asmx http://localhost/project/services/1.1/service.asmx One requirement of this versioning is that I am not allowed to break the original wsdl (the 1.0 wsdl). The challenge lies in how to shepherd the newly versioned classes through the logic that lies behind the web services (this logic includes a number of command and adapter classes). Note that upgrading to WCF is not an option at the moment. To illustrate this, let's consider an example with Blogs and Posts. Prior to the introduction of versions, we were passing concrete objects around instead of interfaces. So an AddPostToBlog command would take in a Post object instead of an IPost. // Old AddPostToBlog constructor. public AddPostToBlog(Blog blog, Post post) { // constructor body } With the introduction of versioning, I would like to maintain the original Post while adding a PostOnePointOne. Both Post and PostOnePointOne will implement the IPost interface (they are not extending an abstract class because that inheritance breaks the wsdl, though I suppose there may be a way around that via some fancy xml serialization tricks). // New AddPostToBlog constructor. public AddPostToBlog(Blog blog, IPost post) { // constructor body } This brings us to my question regarding serialization. The original Post class has an enum property named Type. For various cross-platform compatibility issues, we are changing our enums in our web services to strings. So I would like to do the following: // New IPost interface. public interface IPost { object Type { get; set; } } // Original Post object. public Post { // The purpose of this attribute would be to maintain how // the enum currently is serialized even though now the // type is an object instead of an enum (internally the // object actually is an enum here, but it is exposed as // an object to implement the interface). [XmlMagic(SerializeAsEnum)] object Type { get; set; } } // New version of Post object public PostOnePointOne { // The purpose of this attribute would be to force // serialization as a string even though it is an object. [XmlMagic(SerializeAsString)] object Type { get; set; } } The XmlMagic refers to an XmlAttribute or some other part of the System.Xml namespace that would allow me to control the type of the object property being serialized (depending on which version of the object I am serializaing). Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

  • How do I avoid the loader lock?

    - by Mark0978
We have a managed app, that uses an assembly. That assembly uses some unmanaged C++ code. The Managed C++ code is in a dll, that depends on several other dlls. All of those Dlls are loaded by this code. (We load all the dll's that ImageCore.dll depends on first, so we can tell which ones are missing, otherwise it would just show up as ImageCore.dll failed to load, and the log file would give no clues as to why). class Interop { private const int DONT_RESOLVE_DLL_REFERENCES = 1; private static log4net.ILog log = log4net.LogManager.GetLogger("Imagecore.NET"); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] private static extern IntPtr LoadLibraryEx(string fileName, IntPtr dummy, int flags); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] private static extern IntPtr FreeLibrary(IntPtr hModule); static private String[] libs = { "log4cplus.dll", "yaz.dll", "zlib1.dll", "libxml2.dll" }; public static void PreloadAssemblies() { for (int i=0; i < libs.Length; ++i) { String libname = libs[i]; IntPtr hModule = LoadLibraryEx(libname, IntPtr.Zero, DONT_RESOLVE_DLL_REFERENCES); if(hModule == IntPtr.Zero) { log.Error("Unable to pre-load '" + libname + "'"); throw new DllNotFoundException("Unable to pre-load '" + libname + "'"); } else { FreeLibrary(hModule); } } IntPtr h = LoadLibraryEx("ImageCore.dll", IntPtr.Zero, 0); if (h == IntPtr.Zero) { throw new DllNotFoundException("Unable to pre-load ImageCore.dll"); } } } And this code is called by public class ImageDoc : IDisposable { static ImageDoc() { ImageHawk.ImageCore.Utility.Interop.PreloadAssemblies(); } ... } Which is static constructor. As near as I can understand it, as soon as we attempt to use an ImageDoc object, the dll that contains that assembly is loaded and as part of that load, the static constructor is called which in turn causes several other DLLs to be loaded as well. What I'm trying to figure out, is how do we defer loading of those DLLs so that we don't run smack dab into this loader lock that is being kicked out because of the static constructor. I've pieced this much together by looking at: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsto/thread/dd192d7e-ce92-49ce-beef-3816c88e5a86 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa290048%28VS.71%29.aspx http://forums.devx.com/showthread.php?t=53529 http://www.yoda.arachsys.com/csharp/beforefieldinit.html But I just can't seem to find a way to get these external DLLs to load without it happening at the point the class is loading. I think I need to get these LoadLibrary calls out of the static constructor, but don't know how to get them called before they are needed (except for how it is done here). I would prefer to not have to put this kind of knowledge of the dlls into every app that uses this assembly. (And I'm not sure that would even fix the problem.... The strange thing is that the exception only appears to be happening while running within the debugger, not while running outside the debugger.

  • googletest and EXPECT_THROW weirdness

    - by thumper
I have a class that has no default constructor, but the construct may throw. I was wanting to have a test like: EXPECT_THROW(MyClass(param), std::runtime_error); But the compiler, g++, complains that there is no default constructor for Myclass. However the following: EXPECT_THROW(MyClass foo(param), std::runtime_error); Works, and the test passes as expected. Why though won't googletest accept the temporary object?

  • Can't make my WCF extension work

    - by Sergio Romero
    I have a WCF solution that consists of the following class libraries: Exercise.Services: Contains the implementation classes for the services. Exercise.ServiceProxy: Contains the classes that are instantiated in the client. Exercise.HttpHost: Contains the services (*.svc files). I'm calling the service from a console application and the "first version" works really well so I took the next step which is to create a custom ServiceHostFactory, ServiceHost, and InstanceProvider so I can use constructor injection in my services as it is explained in this article. These classes are implemented in yet another class library: 4. Exercise.StructureMapWcfExtension Now even though I've modified my service this: <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Factory="Exercise.StructureMapWcfExtension.StructureMapServiceHostFactory" Service="Exercise.Services.PurchaseOrderService" %> I always get the following exception: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException Security negotiation failed because the remote party did not send back a reply in a timely manner. This may be because the underlying transport connection was aborted. It fails in this line of code: public class PurchaseOrderProxy : ClientBase<IPurchaseOrderService>, IPurchaseOrderService { public PurchaseOrderResponse CreatePurchaseOrder(PurchaseOrderRequest purchaseOrderRequest) { return base.Channel.CreatePurchaseOrder(purchaseOrderRequest); //Fails here } } But that is not all, I added a trace to the web.config file and this is the error that appears in the log file: System.InvalidOperationException The service type provided could not be loaded as a service because it does not have a default (parameter-less) constructor. To fix the problem, add a default constructor to the type, or pass an instance of the type to the host. So this means that my ServiceHostFactory is never being hit, I even set a breakpoint in both its constructor and its method and they never get hit. I've added a reference of the StructureMapWcfExtension library to all the other ones (even the console client), one by one to no avail. I also tried to use the option in the host's web.config file to configure the factory like so: <serviceHostingEnvironment> <serviceActivations> <add service="Exercise.Services.PurchaseOrderService" relativeAddress="PurchaseOrderService.svc" factory="Exercise.StructureMapWcfExtension.StructureMapServiceHostFactory"/> </serviceActivations> </serviceHostingEnvironment> That didn't work either. Please I need help in getting this to work so I can incorporate it to our project. Thank you. UPDATE: Here's the service host factory's code: namespace Exercise.StructureMapWcfExtension { public class StructureMapServiceHostFactory : ServiceHostFactory { private readonly Container Container; public StructureMapServiceHostFactory() { Container = new Container(); new ContainerConfigurer().Configure(Container); } protected override ServiceHost CreateServiceHost(Type serviceType, Uri[] baseAddresses) { return new StructureMapServiceHost(Container, serviceType, baseAddresses); } } public class ContainerConfigurer { public void Configure(Container container) { container.Configure(r => r.For<IPurchaseOrderFacade>().Use<PurchaseOrderFacade>()); } } }

In the constructor of the handler I generate an index that remains fairly static between request (needs to be rebuilt maybe once a day). How can I cache the the index between calls? Debugging indicates that the constructor is called for each request. I've set IsReusable to "false".

  • AccessControlException: access denied - caller function failed to load properties file

    - by Michael Mao
Hi all: I am having a jar archive environment which is gonna call my class in a folder like this: java -jar "emarket.jar" ../tournament 100 My compiled class is deployed into the ../tournament folder, this command runs well. After I changed my code to load a properties file, it gets the following exception message: Exception in thread "main" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission agent.properties read) at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkRead(Unknown Source) at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source) at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source) at Agent10479475.getPropertiesFromConfigFile(Agent10479475.java:110) at Agent10479475.<init>(Agent10479475.java:100) at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.DelegatingConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(Unknown Source) at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Class.newInstance0(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Class.newInstance(Unknown Source) at emarket.client.EmarketSandbox.instantiateClientObjects(EmarketSandbox.java:92) at emarket.client.EmarketSandbox.<init>(EmarketSandbox.java:27) at emarket.client.EmarketSandbox.main(EmarketSandbox.java:166) I am wondering why this security checking will fail. I issue the getPropertitiesFromConfigFile() function inside my class's default constructor, like this: public class Agent10479475 extends AbstractClientAgent { //default constructor public Agent10479475() { //set all properties to their default values in constructor FT_THRESHOLD = 400; FT_THRESHOLD_MARGIN = 50; printOut("Now loading properties from a config file...", ""); getPropertiesFromConfigFile(); printOut("Finished loading",""); } private void getPropertiesFromConfigFile() { Properties props = new Properties(); try { props.load(new FileInputStream("agent.properties")); FT_THRESHOLD = Long.parseLong(props.getProperty("FT_THRESHOLD")); FT_THRESHOLD_MARGIN = Long.parseLong(props.getProperty("FT_THRESHOLD_MARGIN ")); } catch(java.io.FileNotFoundException fnfex) { printOut("CANNOT FIND PROPERTIES FILE :", fnfex); } catch(java.io.IOException ioex) { printOut("IOEXCEPTION OCCURED :", ioex); } } } My class is loading its own .properties file under the same folder. why would the Java environment complains about such a denial of access? Must I config the emarket.client.EmarketSandbox class, which is not written by me and stored inside the emarket.jar, to access my agent.properties file? Any hints or suggestions is much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

  • StructureMap with my own attributes in C#

    - by ridecar2
Hi All, I have an attribute that I have written that has a dependency on the Data Access Layer so I made a constructor that took the DAL class as a parameter (marked with [DefaultConstructor] and another, blank, constructor that is parameterless. When I call a method that depends on the attribute how do I make StructureMap inject the correct type? Thanks Gareth

  • Passing object to the constuctor of Entity Class with adding new item from DataForm!

    - by Muhammad Jamal Shaikh
hi, here is my case , i want to assign roles to my employees. All Roles are need to be sent to the constructor of the employee class when a user clicks + sign on the top of dataform(Silverlight toolkit 2009). if i put a break point on the default constructor , it gets hit. so i just want the dataform to send this collection when ever it creates new employee. thanks Jamal.

  • PHP Image Upload object won't create directory on windows

    - by ThinkingInBits
I'm writing a class that excepts a product_id and a $_FILES array as it's constructor. The class saves these variables and uses them to create a new directory named by product_id and attempts to copy the temp file to my specified directory. For some reason my class isn't even getting as far as creating a directory (which should happen in the constructor) Here's a link to my code: http://pastie.org/955454

  • Python4Delphi: Returning a python object in a function. (DelphiWrapper)

    - by Gabriel Fonseca
I am using python4delphi. ow can I return an object from a wrapped Delphi class function? Code Snippet: I have a simple Delphi Class that i wrapped to Python Script, right? TSimple = Class Private function getvar1:string; Public Published property var1:string read getVar1; function getObj:TSimple; end; ... function TSimple.getVar1:string; begin result:='hello'; end; function TSimple.getObj:TSimple; begin result:=self; end; I made the TPySimple like the demo32 to give class access to the python code. My python module name is test. TPyDado = class(TPyDelphiPersistent) // Constructors & Destructors constructor Create( APythonType : TPythonType ); override; constructor CreateWith( PythonType : TPythonType; args : PPyObject ); override; // Basic services function Repr : PPyObject; override; class function DelphiObjectClass : TClass; override; end; ... { TPyDado } constructor TPyDado.Create(APythonType: TPythonType); begin inherited; // we need to set DelphiObject property DelphiObject := TDado.Create; with TDado(DelphiObject) do begin end; Owned := True; // We own the objects we create end; constructor TPyDado.CreateWith(PythonType: TPythonType; args: PPyObject); begin inherited; with GetPythonEngine, DelphiObject as TDado do begin if PyArg_ParseTuple( args, ':CreateDado' ) = 0 then Exit; end; end; class function TPyDado.DelphiObjectClass: TClass; begin Result := TDado; end; function TPyDado.Repr: PPyObject; begin with GetPythonEngine, DelphiObject as TDado do Result := VariantAsPyObject(Format('',[])); // or Result := PyString_FromString( PAnsiChar(Format('(%d, %d)',[x, y])) ); end; And now the python code: import test a = test.Simple() # try access the property var1 and everything is right print a.var1 # work's, but.. b = a.getObj(); # raise a exception that not find any attributes named getObj. # if the function returns a string for example, it's work.

  • Code Contracts Vs. Object Initializers (.net 4.0)

    - by Mystagogue
At face value, it would seem that object initializers present a problem for .net 4.0 "code contracts", where normally the invariant should be established by the time the object constructor is finished. Presumably, however, object-initializers require properties to be set after construction is complete. My question is if the invariants of "code contracts" are able to handle object initializers, "as if" the properties were set before the constructor completes? That would be very nice indeed!!

  • Problem with extending JPanel

    - by Halo
I have an abstract entity: public abstract class Entity extends JPanel implements FocusListener And I have a TextEntity: public class TextEntity extends Entity Inside TextEntity's constructor I want to put a JTextArea that will cover the panel: textArea = new JTextArea(); textArea.setSize(getWidth(),getHeight()); add(textArea); But getWidth() and getHeight() returns 0. Is it a problem with the inheritance or the constructor?

  • How to restrict an access to some of the functions at third level in Classes (OOPs)

    - by Shantanu Gupta
    I have created a class say A which has some functions defined as protected. Now Class B inherits A and class C inherits B. Class A has private default constructor and protected parameterized constructor. I want Class B to be able to access all the protected functions defined in Class A but class C can have access on some of the functions only not all the functions and class C is inheriting class B. How can I restrict access to some of the functions of Class A from Class C ? Class A { private A(){} protected A(int ){} } Class B : A {} CLass C:B { }

  • How to Work Around Limitations in Generic Type Constraints in C#?

    - by Jose
Okay I'm looking for some input, I'm pretty sure this is not currently supported in .NET 3.5 but here goes. I want to require a generic type passed into my class to have a constructor like this: new(IDictionary<string, object>) so the class would look like this public MyClass<T> where T : new(IDictionary<string, object>) { T CreateObject(IDictionary<string, object> values) { return new T(values); } } But the compiler doesn't support this, it doesn't really know what I'm asking. Some of you might ask, why do you want to do this? Well I'm working on a pet project of an ORM so I get values from the DB and then create the object and load the values. I thought it would be cleaner to allow the object just create itself with the values I give it. As far as I can tell I have two options: 1) Use reflection(which I'm trying to avoid) to grab the PropertyInfo[] array and then use that to load the values. 2) require T to support an interface like so: public interface ILoadValues { void LoadValues(IDictionary values); } and then do this public MyClass<T> where T:new(),ILoadValues { T CreateObject(IDictionary<string, object> values) { T obj = new T(); obj.LoadValues(values); return obj; } } The problem I have with the interface I guess is philosophical, I don't really want to expose a public method for people to load the values. Using the constructor the idea was that if I had an object like this namespace DataSource.Data { public class User { protected internal User(IDictionary<string, object> values) { //Initialize } } } As long as the MyClass<T> was in the same assembly the constructor would be available. I personally think that the Type constraint in my opinion should ask (Do I have access to this constructor? I do, great!) Anyways any input is welcome.

  • Base class with abstract subclasses in C# ?

    - by Nick Brooks
public abstract class Request { public class Parameters { //Threre are no members here //But there should be in inherited classes } public Request() { parameters = new Parameters(); } public Parameters parameters; } Two questions: How do I make it so I can add stuff to the constructor but the original constructor will still be executed? How do I make it so the subclasses can add members to the Parameters class?
