    A long running background process creates a text file to indicate the completion of the process. From the frontend, I'd need to check every few seconds if the text file has been created or not. I am doing this check from However the file is created in http://DomainB.com/Mytext.txt Can someone help me write a jquery script that checks for a file across domain? PS: Currently, I am doing a ajax postback that executes a WebMethod in ASP.NET that creates HttpWebRequest. This works functionally, but I have major performance problems. So, I need a light weight way of finding if a URL is valid or not.

  • Serialized task distribution: use thread or epoll?

    Now I'm in such a situation that there is a group of predefined tasks for multiple clients to do(any client can take any task). When a client connects to the server, server choose a task from the uncompleted tasks and send it to the client. It takes a while for the client to finish the task and send the result back to the server. Since a task should be sent to only one client, server should process requests in a serialized way. Now I have two plans to do it: create a thread for each client connection and all the threads take turns accessing the task pool, or use epoll listening on all the connection and process for each event of clients. Which one is better for the job? Or is there any other ideas? The server will be run on a multi-core machine.

  • Swing: How do I run a job from AWT thread, but after a window was layed out?

    My complete GUI runs inside the AWT thread, because I start the main window using SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(...). Now I have a JDialog which has just to display a JLabel, which indicates that a certain job is in progress, and close that dialog after the job was finished. The problem is: the label is not displayed. That job seems to be started before JDialog was fully layed-out. When I just let the dialog open without waiting for a job and closing, the label is displayed. The last thing the dialog does in its ctor is setVisible(true). Things such as revalidate(), repaint(), ... don't help either. Even when I start a thread for the monitored job, and wait for it using someThread.join() it doesn't help, because the current thread (which is the AWT thread) is blocked by join, I guess. Replacing JDialog with JFrame doesn't help either. So, is the concept wrong in general? Or can I manage it to do certain job after it is ensured that a JDialog (or JFrame) is fully layed-out?   • javascript location.hash refreshing in IE

    I need to modify the hash, remove it after certain processing takes place so that if the user refreshes they do not cause the process to run again. This works fine in FF, but it seems that IE is reloading every time I try to change the hash. I think it is related to other things that are loading on the page, though I am not certain. I have an iframe that loads (related to the process) as well as some scripts that are still being fetched in the parent window. I can't seem to figure out a good way to change the hash after all the loading completes. And, at the same time am not even positive that it is related to the loading. Any ideas on how to solve this?

    Up to now I used my application as a stand alone product. So, when user pressed "Stop" button I called System.exit(0); and it was fine. Now my application will be called (in a programmatic way) from another program. So, I afraid that System.exit(0); will kill not only my process but also the external software which started my program. So, what is the correct way to shutdown my application if a corresponding request from an external software is received? My application is an GUI application. So, I want to close the window but I also want to close all processes performed by my program. ADDED: To be more specific, I want to close all threads started by my program. My program does not start any OS process or any other program.

  • How to share common css and other resources among grails projects?

    I'm working on a grails-based web application that will be composed of a couple of different grails projects, each developed by a separate team, which will eventually all be unified under a common "portal." So they need to have the same look and feel, at least to some degree. Is there a "blessed" way to share resources like this among projects? Something using the grails plugin architecture maybe? Would it make sense to just create a separate lightweight project containing nothing but the css and any shared resources? How have the rest of you handled sharing things between different grails projects?

    Read (skimmed enough to get coding) through Erlang Programming and Programming Erlang. One question, which is as simple as it sounds: If you have a process Pid1 on machine m1 and a billion million messages are sent to Pid1, are messages handled in parallel by that process (I get the impression no) and(answered below) is there any guarantee of order when processing messages? ie. Received in order sent? If so, how is clock skew handled in high traffic situations for ordering? Coming from the whole C/Thread pools/Shared State background ... I want to get this concrete. I understand distributing an application, but want to ensure the 'raw bones' are what I expect before building processes and distributing workload. Also, am I right in thinking the whole world is currently flicking through Erlang texts ;)

  • Fastest way for inserting very large number of records into a Table in SQL

    The problem is, we have a huge number of records (more than a million) to be inserted into a single table from a Java application. The records are created by the Java code, it's not a move from another table, so INSERT/SELECT won't help. Currently, my bottleneck is the INSERT statements. I'm using PreparedStatement to speed-up the process, but I can't get more than 50 recods per second on a normal server. The table is not complicated at all, and there are no indexes defined on it. The process takes too long, and the time it takes will make problems. What can I do to get the maximum speed (INSERT per second) possible? Database: MS SQL 2008. Application: Java-based, using Microsoft JDBC driver.

    I am trying to see if my understanding of "othello" fame is correct or not. According to the rules, we flip the dark/light sides if we get some sequence like X000X = XXXXX. The question I have is if in the process of flipping 0-X or X- 0, do we also need to consider the rows/columns/diagonals of newly flipped elements? e.g. consider board state as shown in above image(New element X is placed @ 2,3) When we update board, we mark elements from 2,3 to 6,3 as Xs but in this process elements like horizontal 4,3 to 4,5 and diagonal 2,3 to 4,5 are also eligible for update? so do we update those elements as well? or just the elements which have starting as 2,3 (i.e update rows/column/diagonal whose starting point is the element we are dealing with, in our case 2,3?) Please help me understand it

I can associate an open with menu with the file type, now when I already have the program working, how to open the new file into another tab, instead of new program. How to find the already running process exactly, not with the name and send the filename to it. Let me make myself clear: I want my app to be single instance, so that when user select 10 text files and press enter key, my application will open all the 10 text files into 10 tabs, instead of creating 10 processes. How to do that? How to communicate between various instances of the same process. EDIT SOLVED: Implemented the functionality using WM_COPYDATA in C# and the SingleApplication class from codeproject.

    I am trying to find and process 'java-style' comments within a string in objective-C. I have a few regex snippets which almost work but I am stuck on one hurdle: different options seem to make the different styles work. For example, I am using this to match: NSArray* matches = [[NSRegularExpression regularExpressionWithPattern:expression options:NSRegularExpressionAnchorsMatchLines error:nil] matchesInString:string options:0 range:searchRange]; The options here allow me successfully find and process single line comments (//) but not multiline (/* */), if I change the option to NSRegularExpressionDotMatchesLineSeparators then I can make multiline work fine but I can't find the 'end' of a single line comment. I suppose really I need dot-matches-line-separators but I need a better way of finding the end of a single line comment? The regexp I have so far are: @"/\\*.*?\\*/" @"//.*$" it's clear to see if dot matches a line separator then the second one (single line) never 'finishes' but how do I fix this? I found some suggestions for single line that were more like: @"(\/\/[^"\n\r]*(?:"[^"\n\r]*"[^"\n\r]*)*[\r\n])" But that doesn't' seem to work at all! Thanks in advance for any pointers.

I want to have some control over the resulting seam vertex insertion, so looking to write myself rather than use a library.     I would like to know how can I read a file byte by byte then perform some operation every n bytes. for example: Say I have a file of size = 50 bytes, I want to divide it into blocks each of n bytes. Then each block is sent to a function for some operations to be done on those bytes. The blocks are to be created during the read process and sent to the function when the block reaches n bytes so that I don`t use much memory for storing all blocks. I want the output of the function to be written/appended on a new file. This is what I've reached to read, yet I don't know it it is right: fc = new JFileChooser(); File f = fc.getSelectedFile(); FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(f); byte[] b = new byte[16]; in.read(b); I haven't done anything yet for the write process.

The above process i have done, it will fine worked on 3.1.2 but it not working and installing on iphone device 3.1.3 version. How i troubleshoot the above problem.

    Question: In Flash I have the below function. Now the problem is SaveFurniture, SavePolygons and SaveComments all save to the same XML file. Now SaveFurniture sends JSON encoded data to a ashx handler, which saves it in the xml on the server. After form 12 I would like wipe out all the property values in the storing class so that the next user won't accidentally record values when starting the process at form 1. Is it possible to erase/destroy/dispose of all property values in a class?
