Why are they created? Can I delete them? And no, "Windows XP is an old system. You need to skip, hop and jump to Windows 7" is not a valid answer. :-)

  I was just wondering how possible it is to connect a remote control to a Windows 7 system. I’m connecting the computer to a 24" TV via HDMI to be used as a TV, playing things mainly through VLC. Clearly I don’t want to have to access the PC every time I want to change something. The problem is that I have no idea how to configure a remote to a PC, or even what remote will do the job. I’m not looking for anything overly flashy or in the $100-$200 range, but something that is functional and will get the job done.

  I'm using Outlook 2007 and would like to combine multiple email accounts (some are Exchange, some IMAP) into a single Inbox/.OST mail file. An example of the functionality I'm looking for is the Blackberry, where you can configure multiple email accounts and then access that mail either by the inbox for that specific account or via a single aggregated mailbox. In the single mailbox case, when you reply to a given piece of mail the Blackberry is smart enough to switch your "From" address to be that of the account where the email came in to. I'm essentially looking for this functionality in Outlook. Are there native options and/or third party plug-ins which do this?

• Prevent Windows Key from Opening Start Menu in Windows 7

  I'd like to be able to stop the Windows Key from activating the Start Menu on Windows 7. I don't want to disable the Windows Key completely. I'd like Ctrl + Esc to still open the Start Menu. I know that you can use AutoHotKey to disable the Windows Key completely. The reason I want this functionality is that I have a lot of shortcut keys linked to the Windows key and this often results in accidentally opening the start menu.

  When playing a BluRay movie on a PC (any OS, Mac/Win/Linux), I have some questions about audio output: When playing a BluRay disc on the PC using a BluRay player program, can it decode the multichannel (7.1) LPCM/ Dolby Digital Plus / Dolby TrueHD / DTS-HD / DTS-HDMA soundtracks in their HD formats (ie, without downmixing to Dolby Digital or DTS or PCM) and output the audio directly to the soundcard's 7.1 line-level analog outputs? Is it possible to bitstream the the multichannel (7.1) LPCM/ Dolby Digital Plus / Dolby TrueHD / DTS-HD / DTS-HDMA soundtracks in their HD formats (ie, without downmixing to Dolby Digital or DTS or PCM) over the HDMI output to a receiver when using a BluRay player program? I'd kinda like to know. I'm contemplating building a home theater PC, and the above functionality is important. I'd prefer that #1 is possible, actually, because it would mean I wouldn't have to buy a receiver.

• Attempting to migrate to Aptana from Dreamweaver - how to?

  I have been using Dreamweaver for years, and have used Dreamweaver MX, Dreamweaver MX 2004, Dreamweaver 8 & Dreamweaver CS4. They all carry a common theme and were relatively easy to migrate to each other. I use, however, very few features of dreamweaver. Specifically: Syntax highlighting Telesense FTP management/site management The search/replace The idea I get from Aptana is its much more geared toward the web development/programmer side of things, have better visualizations of classes, etc., and handle everything else just as well. The problem is it is not at all clear to me. I managed to start a new project, but it didn't associate it with an FTP. So, I created an FTP, and it looks like I can have many FTPs for one project. My question then is, is there a tutorial or guide to migrating to Aptana from a Dreamweavor's perspective?

• IDE/PATA high-speed hard drive dock

  I frequently need to access bare drives for backups and need a quick, high-speed way to deal with them. There are a multitude of SATA hard drive docks (for example), but I have a lot of IDE/PATA (hereafter "IDE") drives that I would like to be able to use similarly. There are IDE-to-SATA adapters so you can plug your IDE hard drive into a SATA port, so I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the same technology to have a native dock, yet none seems to exist. Now, I'm aware that 3.5" IDE drives do not have a specification for the layout of the connector, and therefore can't be slapped into a dock the same way a SATA drive could, but 2.5" PATA drives do. In fact, I'm not terribly interested in supporting 3.5" drives. It would be nice, but I deal with them far less frequently than 2.5" drives. Also, I'd very much like for the connection to the computer be faster than USB, preferably eSATA, I don't want to be spending time mounting a drive inside an enclosure, I don't want bare drives lying around with a cable hanging off of them, and I'd prefer a single dock rather than two. What seems like the ideal solution to me would be a regular SATA→eSATA dock and some sort of screwless adapter for IDE drives, but I'm open to any suggestions, regardless of my stated preferences, but which are, in some sort of order of preference: high-speed (faster than USB, at least) holder for drive (not just a cable) no complicated enclosure support for 3.5" IDE drives single dock Updates: Here's a 3.5" IDE to 3.5" SATA docking adapter that could be part of the solution. Weird. I figured that would be the impossible part. I was hoping to find something like this 2.5" to 3.5" SATA chassis that would take a 44-pin IDE drive internally. It looks like the Vantec EZ Swap EX comes awfully close. It has its own bay dock, but it looks like the SATA ports on the back are spaced properly, even if they're not aligned quite properly. Unfortunately, the proper position is at the very edge of the drive, which means that the docks' connectors are at the very edge of their recesses, which means there's no way to fit it in there.

  After upgrading to v50 firmware in my Nokia 5800 xpress music phone. I am not able to connect to ad-hoc wlan network in my laptop(Windows 7 OS). I have a dialup internet connection and created wireless ad-hoc network to access the internet in my phone. But I am getting "invalid server name" in the phone and my wireless network access type in Windows 7 shows "no internet access". I am able to connect to wlan infrastructure network using 5800 in my office. So my phone is working with wlan and I m able to access internet on it. BUT The problem is "dial up with ICS enabled" and "AD-HOC wlan network" in Windows 7. Can anyone give some solution on it. Or can you provide a guide/tutorial to connect 5800 with adhoc network and dialup internet in Windows 7. System: Windows 7 Dial up internet connection with ICS enabled. • How can I free up some space in my C: drive?

  Each time I try to save a file, I get a message from my computer (with Windows 7) that asks me to free up some space in my Drive C before being able to save my intended file. But the more I search for extraneous files to delete, the more I get frustrated. I simply can't find out what "extra" file(s) I have that are occupying about 20 gigs of my C drive. As far as I know I save all the downloadable stuff to my other drives, and the most part of what I do with my computer is just Internet browsing. Would you please help me find the file or files that have occupied so much space in my Drive C so that I can remove them?

• Can't Shut Down computer with windows 8 Release Preview

  I downloaded Release Preview and installed it. I have a problem when I shut down the computer. After I press windows key + I Power Shut Down, a box pops up titled "Winlogon.exe - No Disk. Then under that is the message "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into Drive G". After hitting the retry button a couple of different times the screen finally goes dark. When I was going to turn it back on, I noticed the Power Button was still list. The only way to do a complete Shutdown is to hold in the power button directly. How do I fix this problem?

  I tried Unlocker 1.9.1 but it doesn't work correctly for me on Windows7 (worked ok on Windows XP) and also I tried LockHunter 2.0.2.103 x64 and reported a bug but .... LockHunter actually unlocks the file from GUI but not from command line. So I want to use handle.exe by SysInternals to unlock one file "TestPro.log". I know the absolut path if it helps. I can list and all processes that locked the file by executing C:\Windows\system32>c:\edutester\progs\handle testpro.log java.exe pid: 2120 type: File 338: C:\Users\Public\TestPro \TestPro Automation Framework\Logs\TestPro.log java.exe pid: 1004 type: File 934: C:\Users\Public\TestPro \TestPro Automation Framework\Logs\TestPro.log What I need to know how to unlock the file using above info from command line automatically. • Utility for scanning stacks of double-sided documents

  I have a simplex scanner with document feeder, and am looking for the best way to scan double-sided notes. It would be useful to be able to scan the same stack twice, once flipped, and have a utility automatically interleave the scanned images. Multi-page PDF export would also be nice. • The visual effects in Windows 7 turns off after reboot.

  I have Windows 7 64-bit Professional on my PC. When using English language, the visual effects are turned on. When I use Telugu LIP (India), the visual effects are turned off every time I reboot my PC. When I say visual effects, I don't mean the aero effects. The maximize and minimize effects are not felt. The effects don't show up though the check boxes are checked. Find the image showing the check boxes are checked but the effects not being showed up p. UPDATE: I recreated the account and now the effects are restored properly. UPDATE: Yes it is. This is a standard account. The surprising thing is,the check boxes are checked but still no animations. Once I make the apply button enable, the animations show up again.

• netsh wlan add profile not importing passphrase

  I exported a wireless network connection profile from a Windows 7 machine correctly connected to a WiFi network with a WPA-TKIP passphrase. The exported xml file shows the correct settings and a keyMaterial node which I can only guess is the encrypted passphrase. When I take the xml to another Windows 7 computer and import it using netsh wlan add profile filename="WiFi.xml", it correctly adds the profile's SSID and encryption type, but a balloon pops up saying that I need to enter the passphrase. Is there a way to import the passphrase along with all other settings or am I missing something about adding profiles? • Referencing a specific figure in Microsoft Word 2003

  Referring to the screenshot below: I want to be able to reference the figure in the body of the text properly without having to change them manually every time I add a figure label before that body of text. However, I don't know how to do it aside from adding caption labels, which won't work for cases where I have more than one reference to the figure (at least I don't know how to do that properly anyway). How would you recommend accomplishing that? Thanks in advance!
