    What can or cannot you do in ::OnInitDialog() Visual Studio 2008 C++ I would like to write out some text on the dialog at the dialog startup. If I put the same code in a PUSH-BUTTON OnBnClicked it works. If I put it in the OnInit, it does not give me the text on the screen. I'm assuming at the OnInit, my dialog box is not completely up, so I cannot write on it?     If you have large files in a content source that is being indexed by Sharepoint you might run into the following error message: “The file reached the maximum download limit. Check that the full text of the document can be meaningfully crawled.” This is usually caused because SharePoint’s MaxDownloadSize setting is set lower than the size of the file you are attempting to index. You can increase this value, restart the service then kick off a full crawl in order to fix this issue, but SharePoint 2007 and 2010 have different methods for accomplishing this task.   Sharepoint 2007 Open up the Registry editor and increase the MaxDownloadSize value to a number (in MB) higher than the largest file being indexed. You can find this at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Search\1.0\Gathering Manager After you increase the size, cycle the search service and kick off a full crawl of the content source in question.   Sharepoint 2010 With SharePoint 2010 you can use PowerShell via the Sharepoint 2010 Console in order to change the MaxDownloadSize.     Dear All: I am reading here http://groovy.codehaus.org/modules/http-builder/doc/handlers.html "In cases where a response sends a redirect status code, this is handled internally by Apache HttpClient, which by default will simply follow the redirect by re-sending the request to the new URL. You do not need to do anything special in order to follow 302 responses." This seems to work fine when I simply use the get() or post() methods without a closure. However, when I use a closure, I seem to lose 302 handling. Is there some way I can handle this myself? Thank you p.s.   • Using parameters in reports for VIsual Studio 2008

    This is my first attempt to create a Visual Studio 2008 report using parameters. I have created the dataset and the report. If I run it with a hard-coded filter on a column the report runs fine. When I change the filter to '?' I keep getting this error: No overload for method 'Fill' takes '1' argument Obviously I am missing some way to connect the parameter on the dataset to a report parameter. I have defined a report parameter using the Report/Report Parameter screen. But how does that report parameter get tied to the dataset table parameter? Is there a special naming convention for the parameter? I have Googled this a half dozen times and read the msdn documentation but the examples all seem to use a different approach (like creating a SQL query rather then a table based dataset) or entering the parameter name as "=Parameters!name.value" but I can't figure out where to do that. One msdn example suggestted I needed to create some C# code using a SetParameters() method to make the connection. Is that how it is done? If anyone can recommend a good walk-through I'd appreciate it. Edit: After more reading it appears I don't need report parameters at all. I am simply trying to add a parameter to the database query. So I would create a text box on the form, get the user's input, then apply that parameter programmatically to the fill() argument list. The report parameter on the other hand is an ad-hoc value generally entered by a user that you want to appear on the report. But there is no relationship between report parameters and query/dataset parameters. Is that correct?

I added Prerequisites like: .NET 3.5, Microsoft office interoperability, VS tools for office System 3.0 Run time, .etc. After that Selected "Download Prerequisite from Same location as my application" in Specify install location for Prerequisite. Build the setup. I can find mysetup.msi in Release directory. In new Machine I started fresh installation of my application... While Clicking the mySetup.msi. Dialog shows like this " This Setup Requires .NET framework 3.5 , Please install .NET setup then run this setup, .NET Framework can be obtained from web Do you want to do that now?" it gives "yes" no option - if I press YES it goes microsoft website. How can avoid it ? I wanted setup take .NET Framework to be installed from same location where I put all setup files including mysetup.msi ? The question is how do I set this up in my ProjectGroup template?   • Ajax Minifier Visual Studio include all javascript files

    I am using the Ajax Minifier http://www.ajaxprojects.com/ajax/tutorialdetails.php?itemid=766 and have embedded it in the csproj file for use in Visual Studio 2008 (not the free version). I have two folders, Content and Scripts, directly under the root of the project. Also, the Content folder has subfolders, and would like to include all of these as well (if I have to manually add each subfolder that is fine as well). Currently, my csproj file looks like this (and is included within the Project tags as instructed). There are no build errors, the files simply do not get minified.   • Visual Studio 2008 Web Project error: Unable to start program http://localhost:port

    I am re-hashing this question because I have looked at over 50 threads in different forums and have not been able to get a resolution to my problem. Here are the specs: Windows XP SP3, Visual Studio 2008 SP1, .NET 3.5, ASP. NET MVC 2 project, IE 7 (was IE 8) Up until a few days ago I was not having any issues. It is now happening on any solution that I try to debug. I start a debug session (F5), the solution rebuilds, a VS development web server starts and then I get this error: Unable to start program http://localhost:2012/ If I open a web browser and enter the URL the application loads up. I had upgraded to IE 8 a few weeks ago and read there may be some issues so it has been uninstalled and I am currently on IE 7. Also, while IE 8 was installed I had switched my default browser to Firefox but my current default broweser is now IE7. I have reveiewed the threads on this site and others and have not been able to fix the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Error in Visual Studio 2008 with SSRS 2005 report projects

    Has anyone found a good workaound for opening or editing an SSRS 2005 report project with Visual Studio 2008 yet? Will the SQL server 2008 tools be the migration path for these report projects in the future? I really dont want to have to keep VS2005 installed forever just to update SSRS reports. After an upgrade to VS2008 an existing solution that contains a VS2005 SSRS reports project will not open. From what I understand the SQL Server 2005 tools dont know about VS2008 so they will not integrate into the IDE. So currently I switch back to VS2005 for any updates to this project, and get an error loading project message everytime I open the solution in 2008. EDIT on solution: I was able to install the shared component for BDIS from the SQL2008 disc and am now able to open and update my SSRS 2005 .rdl project items within VS2008. Note to others: If you edit your SSRS 2005 reports in VS2008 and re-save you will not be able to edit them in VS2005 anymore, or deploy them to a 2005 server. They are up-converted to 2008 report files.

    Hi! I want to execute JavaScript when document is ready without much syntax overhead. Warning in master page is Expected expression at the line <asp:ContentPlaceHolder. In inherited pages warning is Could not find 'OnReadyScript' in the current master page or pages. I tried using Writer.Write in master page to render script tag and wrapping code: <% Writer.Write(@"<script type=""text/javascript"">$(document).ready(function () {"); %> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="OnReadyScrit" runat="server" /> <% Writer.Write(@"});"); %> but page rendering terminates after opening script tag is rendered. Html basically ends with <script type="text/javascript"> How can I make it work?

  • Trouble running setup package after Publishing in Visual Studio 2008

    I've got a small winform application that I've written that is running fine in the IDE. It builds with no errors or warnings. It's not using any third party controls. I'm coding in C# in Visual Studio 2008. When I Build -- Publish the application, everything seems to work fine. However, when I go and attempt to install the application via the setup.exe file I get an error message that says, "Application cannot be started."   • Visual Studio Debugging is not attaching to WebDev.WebServer.EXE

    I have a solution with many projects. On Debug, I have three web projects that I want to start up on their own Cassini ASP.NET Web Development servers. In the Solution Properties - Common Properties - Startup Project, I have Multiple startup projects chosen with the three web applications' Action set to Start. All three web development servers start, and all three web pages load. However, Visual Studio is only attaching to two of the WebDev.WebServer.EXE processes. I have to manually go attach to the third process in order to debug it with the debugger. This behavior just started happening, and I'm at a loss as to how to troubleshoot this. Any help is appreciated. EDIT: Also to note, I have stopped and restarted the development servers several times with no change in behavior. Also, when attaching to the process manually, I see that the Type property of the two automatically attached WebDev.WebServer.EXE processes is Managed, while the Type property of the unattached WebDev.WebServer.EXE process is TSQL, Managed, x86. When looking at the project's properties, however, I am targeting AnyCPU, and do NOT have SQL Server debugging enabled. EDIT: Also to note, the two projects that attach correctly are C# web applications. <ProjectTypeGuids>{349c5851-65df-11da-9384-00065b846f21};{fae04ec0-301f-11d3-bf4b-00c04f79efbc}</ProjectTypeGuids> The project that is not attaching correctly is a VB.NET web application. <ProjectTypeGuids>{349c5851-65df-11da-9384-00065b846f21};{F184B08F-C81C-45F6-A57F-5ABD9991F28F}</ProjectTypeGuids> EDIT: Also to note, the behavior is the same on another workstation. So odds are that it's not a machine specific problem.

  • C++ Formatting like visual studio c# formatting

    I like the way Visual studio (2008) format C# code; unfortunately it seems it doesn't behave in the same way when writing C++ code. For example, when I write a code in this way: class Test { public: int x; Test() {this->x=20;} ~Test(){} }; in C# (ok this is C++ but you can understand what I mean), this part: Test() {this->x=20;} Will become Test() { this->x=20; } This is obviusly a stupid example, but there are a lot of things where putting brackets in correct position, indenting code and other things with my own hands becomes boring. I can obviusly change editor if you suggest me a good one for C++ code, I would like to find something with these features: Intellisense (like vs, at least similiar) Custom class coloring (in c# they are cyan, why are they black in c++?) Wordwrap (possibly) Documentation when you mouse over a method/variable Auto formatting (when you close a bracket like "}" in c# you'll get everything well formatted) obviusly I can find other features, but this is what is in my mind at the moment.   • Integrating a Custom Compiler with the Visual Studio IDE

    Background: I want to create a custom VB compiler, extending the "original" compiler, to handle my custom compile-time attributes. Question: after I've created my custom compiler and I've got an executable file capable of compiling VB code via the standard command-line interface, how do I integrate this compiler with the Visual Studio IDE? (such that pressing "compile" or "build" will make use of my compiler instead of the default compiler). EDIT: (Correct me if i'm wrong) From the reactions here, I see this question is a bit shocking, so I shall further explain my needs and background: .NET provides us with a great mechanism called Attributes. As far as I understand, making attributes apply their intended behavior upon the attributed element (assembly, module, class, method, etc.) - attributes must be reflected upon. So the real trick here is reflecting and applying behavior at the right spot. Lets take Serialization for example: We decorate a class with the Serializable attribute. We then pass an instance of the class to the formatter's Serialize method. The formatter reflects upon the instance, checking if it has the Serializable attribute, and acting accordingly. Now, if we examine the Synchronization, Flags, Obsolete and CLSCompliant attributes, then the real question is: who reflects upon them? At least in some cases, it has to be the compiler (and/or IDE). Therefore, it seems that if I wish to create custom attributes that change an element's behavior regardless of any specific consumer, i must extend the compiler to reflect upon them at compilation. Of course, these are not my personal insights: the book "Applied .NET Attributes" provides a complete example of creating a custom attribute and a custom C# compiler to reflect upon that attribute at compilation (the example is used to implement "java-style checked exceptions").

  • Visual Studio 2008 project organization for executable and assembly

    Hi - I am having a problem setting up the following in Visual Studio 2008: a parent project which includes the entrypoint Main() method class and which declares an interface, and a child project which has classes that implement the interface declared in the parent project. I have specified that Parent's Output type is a Console application, and Child's Output type is a Class library. In Child I have add a reference to the Parent as a project, and specified that Child depends on Parent and that the build order should be Parent, then Child. The build succeeds, and as far I can tell, the right things show up in the Child/bin/debug directory: Parent.exe and Child.dll. However, if I run Parent.exe, then at the point when it should load a class from the Child.dll, it fails with the error message: exception executing operation System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'Child.some.class' from assembly 'Parent, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'. I guess I'm confused as to how to get the Parent and Child projects to play together. I plan on having more child projects that use the same framework that is set up in the Parent, and so I do not want to move the entrypoint class down into the Child project. If I try to specify that the Child project is also a Console application, then the build process fails because there is no Main() entrypoint class in the child (even though the Parent project is included as a reference).     The code metrics analyser in Visual Studio, as well as the code metrics power tool, report the number of lines of code in the TestMethod method of the following code as 8. At the most, I would expect it to report lines of code as 3. [TestClass] public class UnitTest1 { private void Test(out string str) { str = null; } [TestMethod] public void TestMethod() { var mock = new Mock<UnitTest1>(); string str; mock.Verify(m => m.Test(out str)); } } Can anyone explain why this is the case? Further info After a little more digging I've found that removing the out parameter from the Test method and updating the test code causes LOC to be reported as 2, which I believe is correct. The addition of out causes the jump, so it's not because of braces or attributes. Decompiling the DLL with dotPeek reveals a fair amount of additional code generated because of the out parameter which could be considered 8 LOC, but removing the parameter and decompiling also reveals generated code, which could be considered 5 LOC, so it's not simply a matter of VS counting compiler generated code (which I don't believe it should do anyway).

  • Visual Studio 2008 Web Project problem with PNG files

    I've added a PNG file to a directory in my VS2k8 webforms project, and when I run the app, it refuses to render my image - it even knows the dimensions but renders a box with a red X. Oddly enough, if I double click the PNG file within VS2k8, it opens up in the IDE and displays fine (but only within the IDE). Does anyone have any clues? The path is correct.. I just have a basic default.aspx page with this in the body <img src="img/logo.png" /> if i navigate to img/logo.png in the browser, it shows a box with the same dimensions as my image, but a red x. Its finding the image, just not rendering it. It's showing up in IE running under the vs2k8 web server (localhost:5512/default.aspx) I've dropped a JPG in the same directory, and it shows up just fine. I'm not sure what type of PNG it is, but here is the kicker.... If i make an HTML file that references that image, copy both this HTML file and PNG file to my webserver (or just double click on the HTML page), it comes up JUST FINE. Its leading me to believe that the Visual Studio web server may not recognize PNG files (at least this one) properly?
