  • Am I correctly handling duplicate URLs for my homepage?

    I own a Job Search site named www.conservationjobboard.com and have a concern about how the domain is viewed by search engines. The issue is that when the site was first designed, the default page was left as default.php, but the homepage was actually JobBoard.php. To handle this, the default.php page performed a redirect to the JobBoard.php file when www.conservationjobboard.com/ was requested. The main problem resulted because the redirect was a temporary redirect causing search engines to index conservationjobboard.com/ and conservationjobboard.com/JobBoard.php as 2 separate pages. This has since been corrected to use the .htaccess file so that JobBoard.php is now the default file for the root directory eliminating the need for the redirect. Problem is that search engines still show both URL's in search results (one including JobBoard.php and one that ends with /). Another potential problem is that some of my early backlinks are to conservationjobboard.com/JobBoard.php while the rest are to conservationjobboard.com The 2 outstanding questions are as follows: 1. Is my domain still being penalized by search engines like Google for having duplicate homepage URL's? 2. Are all of the back links to my homepage being considered as the same now or is the total number of back links being split between the 2 different URL's? If you think there are still issues with how we have this set-up, I was wondering if you could give me advice on what we should do differently. Thanks.

  • How to disable auto-assume in Google Chrome

    I've noticed that whenever I sign in in Google Chrome version 21.0 it automatically assumes and it automatically knows what I want to search. I basically use the address bar to search(my default search engine is Google) I don't go type Google.com on the address bar and then search from there. So what happens is that when I type something for example "vernier" for vernier caliper I'm automatically redirected to my facebook account which has a user account name of vern.ancheta. It's really getting annoying, this happens for every search term that I used maybe even ones that I haven't used before in my entire search history in Google. It always assumes as if it knows what I'm really thinking. What's the solution for this? Is this a bug in Google Chrome or just one of its annoying features. Please enlighten me on this.

    I'm fairly new to SEO and although I've read many articles on the topic I still don't have a clear idea of how to get my client's website get to the first page of Google Search. I run MOZ competitor analysis and see that a competitor that comes up at the top of Google Search has approximately same Domain Authority, Domain Moz Rank and Trust. They have 8 External Linking Root Domains while my client's site has five. Yet the competitor comes up as one of the top sites on the first page, and my client's side is on page #3. Then I noticed one drastic difference in competitor's ranking and that is Total Links. He has 1,388! I don't understand how this could be a positive factor in Search Engine ranking and how can they legitimately have 1,388 links (while only 14 of those are external). Another competitor who is #2 in search engine rankings has 773 links total with only 14 external links. It seems fishy, but yet there they are - at the top of the search engine results. Is that some current way to trick Search Engines? What to do if I'd like to get my client's website onto the first page by some legitimate means? Thanks.

    When using XPath in .NET one of the gotchas to be aware of is that all namespaces must be named, otherwise you’ll end up with no results. Default namespaces that are specified with xmlns alone still need to be recognized in the XPath query!     I have this sam e question on StackOverflow and I was advised to ask it here hoping for more information. Here is the question: I am in rather unfavorable situation. I have aspdotneststore front e-commerce application and search addon called VibeTrib. I dont have source code for both of those. Store that runs on StoreFront and VibeTrib has close to 250k products. Also we have lots of filters. I spoke to ViTrib reps, and they want extra money so they could optimize Queries that they use. Money they require is nto a big deal, but the problem is I dont trust them anymore. What we got is much different then wha is being advertised. To cut the long story short. I am runing the store on Amazon AWS now, and regardless of what DB (MsSQL 2012) server I set (I tried 32GB RAM monsters instances) it is slow. Ajax search uses Full Text search and it displays search keywords relatively fast, but once the search is performed ( to display all results) it is still slow.!!! There is something that I could to do accelerate the speed on my own end? I do have full control over EC2 Instance (Web server Server 2012 and IIS 8). Can I set IIS to step in for the search and cache some of it? I was hoping to cache at least some most common words. My best bet is IIS 8 :) Is there any help in my case? Thanks

  • Cannot get UISearchBar Scope Bar to appear in Toolbar (or anywhere) on iPad

    This is really causing me fits. I see a lot of info on putting a UISearchBar in the top row of a UITableView -- but I am putting the UISearchBar into the Toolbar at the top of my screen (on the iPad). I cannot find ANYTHING regarding how to handle UISearchBar and UISearchDisplayController using a UIPopoverController on the iPad. Any more info about the UISearchDisplayController using a UIPopoverController would be greatly appreciated. Please help with this as I am at my wit's end. Using IB, I put a toolbar on the IUView on the iPad. I added the following: Search Bar (not Search Bar and Search Display) to the toolbar. I set the options to be as follows: Show Cancel Button, Show Scope Bar, Scope Button Titles are: "Title1" and "Title2" (with Title2's radio button selected). Opaque, Clear Context and Auto Resize are checked. I hooked up the delegate of Search Bar to the "File's Owner" and linked it to IBOutlet theSearchBar. In my viewWillAppear I have the following: //Just in case: [theSearchBar setScopeButtonTitles:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"Near Me",@"Everywhere",nil]]; //Just in case (again): [theSearchBar setShowsScopeBar:YES]; //doesn't seem to do anything: //[theSearchBar sizeToFit]; searchDisplayController = [[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:theSearchBar contentsController:self]; [self setSearchDisplayController:searchDisplayController]; [searchDisplayController setDelegate:self]; [searchDisplayController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; //again--does not seem to do anything..but people have suggested it: [theSearchBar sizeToFit]; Okay, so far, I thought, so good.   • Possible bug in ASP.NET MVC with form values being replaced.

    I appear to be having a problem with ASP.NET MVC in that, if I have more than one form on a page which uses the same name in each one, but as different types (radio/hidden/etc), then, when the first form posts (I choose the 'Date' radio button for instance), if the form is re-rendered (say as part of the results page), I seem to have the issue that the hidden value of the SearchType on the other forms is changed to the last radio button value (in this case, SearchType.Name). I've contacted Phil Haack about this, because I don't know where else to turn, and I don't believe that this should be expected behaviour as specified by David.

I first thought that Visual C++ performs some kind of vectorization (may be I am mistaken here), but as far as I can see assembly does not look the way it uses vectorization. Why is STL loop faster? Hand-crafted loop is identical to the loop from the STL-find body. I was asked to post program's output. Without shuffle: value generation required: 0.078 first search required: 0.008 first search found value: no second search required: 0.098 second search found value: no With shuffle (caching effects): value generation required: 1.454 first search required: 0.009 first search found value: no second search required: 0.044 second search found value: no Many thanks, dusha.     The title is a bit awkward but I couldn't found a better one. My problem is as follows: I have several users stored as documents and I am storing several key-value-pairs or items (which have an id) for each document. Now, if I apply highlighting I can get the first n items. If you have several hundreds of such items this highlighting is necessary and works nicely. But there are two problems: The highlighted text won't contain the id and so retrieving additional information of the highlighted item text is ugly. E.g. you need to store the id in the text so that the highlighter returns it. Adding the id to the hl.fl parameter does not help. You will not get the most relevant n-items. You will get the first n items ... So how can I find the best items of a documents with multiple such items? I will now add my own findings as answers, but as I will point out. Each of them has its drawbacks. Hopefully anyone of you can point me to a better solution.

  • One email user keeps disconnecting from our exchange server

    I have one user who keeps reporting that Outlook keeps disconnecting from our email server. All other users are fine. Our email server is running Exchange 2010 and the client is running Outlook 2003. The disconnection only lasts a moment. I have checked for logs on the client and Exchange server and can not see any reason for the disconnect, On the Client I get EventId 26 telling me Outlook has disconnected and reconnected but no reason why.   • I want to consolidate two sites into a third. Will my search engine rankings be penalized if I rewrite and redirect pages one by one?

    I have two Drupal sites with different content-- let's call them Apple and Orange. I recently developed a much more sophisticated third Drupal site-- let's call it Tree. For a large number of reasons, the content on Apple and Orange is useful for the users of Tree, so I want to move the content to Tree. However, much of the content is out of date. (This whole process took about five years.) To update the content, I will rewrite it one article at a time myself. Now here's my question: if I move the articles one by one (as I rewrite them) and then redirect the old articles (using a 301 redirect) on Apple/Orange to the new site on Tree, will this have a huge negative effect on my search engine rankings? Is there a good way to redirect among sites when they merge like this, or would I be better off keeping the old articles on Apple/Orange and simply linking them to the new, rewritten articles on Tree?

    We started to lose search referral traffic around the same time that I moved some of our sitemaps to a subdomain. Could this have hurt us? I followed Google's steps to creating a sitemap under a different subdomain. The new sitemaps.foo.com subdomain is being crawled and indexed well. Both www.foo.com and sitemaps.foo.com have been verified in Google Webmaster Tools. They appear as distinct sites. Is this correct? I can't find a way in Webmaster Tools to say "Hey, sitemaps.foo.com is really owned by www.foo.com, so show them together and make sure to attribute sitemaps.foo urls to www.foo" Our www.foo.com/robots.txt Sitemap: http://www.foo.com/sitemap.xml Sitemap: http://sitemaps.foo.com/subdir/sitemap.xml.gz

I'm completely new to Javascript, and have waded through some of Google's sample code easily enough. I found how to grab the user's current location.
