  • Page loading effect with jquery

    - by Andy Simpson
    Hello all, Is there a way to use jquery (or other method) to display a loading div while page loads? I have a table that is populated using PHP/MySQL and can contain several thousand rows. This is then sorted using the tablesorter plugin for jquery. Everything works fine, however the page can sometimes take 4-5 seconds to fully load and it would be nice to display a 'loading...' message within a div which automatically disappears when whole table is loaded. I have heard of loadmask plugin for jquery - would this be suitable for my needs and if not any alternative? No AJAX calls are being made while loading this table if thats relevant. Thanks in advance Andy

  • jQuery to target CSS a:hover class

    - by songdogtech
    Confused here. What's the best way to change the hover CSS of the link below, and how? toggle.Class? add.Class? I want to show an image on hover. I have been able to change the color of the text with $("#menu-item-1099 a:contains('rss')").css("color", "#5d5d5d"); but can't seem to target the hover class. <div id="access"> <div class="menu-header"> <ul id="menu-main-menu" class="menu"> <li id="menu-item-1099" class="menu-item menu-item-type-custom menu-item-1099"> <a href="http://mydomain.com/feed/">rss</a></li>

  • Mixture of php shorttags

    - by drpcken
    I'm taking over a codeigniter project and notice the original dev uses a mixture of short tag and php tags in the views. For example: <div id="content"> <?=show_header()?> <ul id="products"> <?php if (count($products) > 0) : ?> <?php foreach($products as $product) : ?> ... </div> Is this bad practice to inherit? I think it is already causing me problems in my dev environment.

  • Does this incorporate JavaScript closures?

    - by alex
    In trying to learn JavaScript closures, I've confused myself a bit. From what I've gathered over the web, a closure is... Declaring a function within another function, and that inner function has access to its parent function's variables, even after that parent function has returned. Here is a small sample of script from a recent project. It allows text in a div to be scrolled up and down by buttons. var pageScroll = (function() { var $page, $next, $prev, canScroll = true, textHeight, scrollHeight; var init = function() { $page = $('#secondary-page'); // reset text $page.scrollTop(0); textHeight = $page.outerHeight(); scrollHeight = $page.attr('scrollHeight'); if (textHeight === scrollHeight) { // not enough text to scroll return false; }; $page.after('<div id="page-controls"><button id="page-prev">prev</button><button id="page-next">next</button></div>'); $next = $('#page-next'); $prev = $('#page-prev'); $prev.hide(); $next.click(scrollDown); $prev.click(scrollUp); }; var scrollDown = function() { if ( ! canScroll) return; canScroll = false; var scrollTop = $page.scrollTop(); $prev.fadeIn(500); if (scrollTop == textHeight) { // can we scroll any lower? $next.fadeOut(500); } $page.animate({ scrollTop: '+=' + textHeight + 'px'}, 500, function() { canScroll = true; }); }; var scrollUp = function() { $next.fadeIn(500); $prev.fadeOut(500); $page.animate({ scrollTop: 0}, 500); }; $(document).ready(init); }()); Does this example use closures? I know it has functions within functions, but is there a case where the outer variables being preserved is being used? Am I using them without knowing it? Thanks Update Would this make a closure if I placed this beneath the $(document).ready(init); statement? return { scrollDown: scrollDown }; Could it then be, if I wanted to make the text scroll down from anywhere else in JavaScript, I could do pageScroll.scrollDown(); I'm going to have a play around on http://www.jsbin.com and report back

  • How do you use jQuery .data() to store html?

    - by Al
    Hi all - when I look up the syntax for .data(), it gives examples like this: $('body').data('foo', 52); I am doing AJAX loads and I was wondering if it is possible to store the incoming html using .data() so once the content is loaded, I would not need to do another AJAX load if the same link is clicked again - I would check to see if the .data key is empty. Would something like this work?: To load the contents of a #ajaxdiv into storage: $('body').data('storage', div#ajaxdiv.html()); To test if the data has already been loaded: if $('body').data('storage') != '' { div#ajaxdiv.html($('body').data('storage')); } Thanks in advance!! • Need help from CSS purist!

    - by Darcy
    I'm beginning to use CSS more and more but I'm not sure if I'm using it as intended in all cases. I have classes named things like 'box' that will wrap the content inside it with a border, which seems like good CSS to me. On the other hand I have classes like 'margin-right-5' and 'float-left' that sets the css to margin-right: 5px and float:left respectively. I'm wondering if this is good practice. Then in my markup I'd do something like: <div class="box float-left margin-right-5"> <!-- CONTENT HERE --> </div> Sometimes I may want to float right or not have a margin at all and still use the 'box' class, so I use several classes in order to make the css more flexible. Am I destroying the principles of CSS?

  • Find element using jQuery

    Hi, I've got some HTML that looks like this. <li class="t-item t-first"> <div class="t-top"> <span class="t-icon t-plus"></span> <span class="t-in">Offshore</span> </div> <input type="hidden" value="41393" name="itemValue" class="t-input"> </li> The HTML is a single item from a treeview created by Telerik. The real data here is that "Offshore" has an id of "41393". From the Telerik code I get the span-element with class"t-in", but I'm unable to get the ID-value from it. How can I use jQuery to find the value of the hidden input type?

  • jquery load php file - result is not complete

    - by Mark Nolan
    I'm trying to load or better reload a DIV with content from an included php file. so the file is included in the webadmin.php from the location webadmin/pages.php. Then i alter some data in the DB through serializing. Now I would like to reload the pages.php from the callback of the serialize POST with load();. This all works fine up until the moment the data is supposed to be displayed in the div - i believe its because the php file is loaded from a different location, so the include paths for the DB Connection etc are probably wrong... Should I really write an extra PHP File for jquery or is there a way to tell jquery where to load it from? Its the first time I'm doing this - so bear with me for a moment on this one... Thanks! I guess it wont be much use, but heres the load code: $("#right").load("webadmin/pages.php");

  • Content pulled in via jQuery AJAX is not associating with previous functions

    - by Jarsen
    I'm using the jquery .load() function to pull in data to populate a div with. The content I'm pulling in has CSS selectors that should match up with jQuery click functions I've written. However, when I load in the data, although the correct CSS selectors are there, when I click on areas that should invoke a response from jQuery, nothing happens. Do I need to do some sort of reload? Here's the code I've got for the jQuery AJAX: $(document).ready(function() { // AJAX functionality for drupal nodes $(".ajax_node").click(function() { var ajax_src = $(this).attr("href"); // we're gonna load the href // empty target div and load in content // the space in the string before the #id is necessary $("#ajax_area").empty().load(ajax_src + " #ajax_wrapper"); return false; // stops the link from following through }); // General AJAX fucntionality $(".ajax").click(function() { var ajax_src = $(this).attr("href"); $("#ajax_area").empty().load(ajax_src); return false; }); });

  • Outputting an HTML entity character from a helper function

    - by morpheous
    I am using Symfony 1.3.2 on Ubuntu. I have written a little helper function (statsfoo) that prints out summary statistics about an item. I am using the helper function in my template like this: // In StatsHelper.php <?php function statsfoo($some_param) { return "<div class=\"sfoo\">&9830; the stats number for item is 42</div>" } //In showStatsSuccess.php <?php use_helper(Stats); <?php echo statsfoo($foobar, ESC_ENTITIES); I tried both ESC_ENTITIES and ESC_RAW. In both instances, the raw number (&9830) was displayed in the page. I want to display the diamond instead. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this?
