• XSLT 1.0: Sorting by concating portions of date string

  I'm trying to take XML data and sort elements by their data attribute. Unfortunately the dates come over in mm/dd/yyyy format and are not static lengths. (Jan = 1 instead of 01) So I believe the string will have to be parsed into three components and the month padded. The newly concated value (yyyymmdd) then sorted descending. Problem is I have no idea how to do this.   I would like to add a value object to a mapped class where one column is fixed depending of the class that contains the component. • Column.DbType affecting runtime behavior

  Hi According to the MSDN docs, the DbType property/attribute of a Column type/element is only used for database creation. Yet, today, when trying to submit data to an IMAGE column on a SQLCE database (not sure if only on CE), I got an exception of 'Data truncated to 8000 bytes'. This was due to the DbType still being defined as VARBINARY(MAX) which SQLCE does not support. Changing the type to IMAGE in the DbType fixes the issue. So what other surprises does Linq2SQL attributes hold in store? Is this a bug or intended? Should I report it to MS? UPDATE After getting the answer from Guffa, I tested it, but it seems for NVARCHAR(10) adding a 11 char length string causes a SQL exception, and not Linq2SQL one. The data was truncated while converting from one data type to another. • Binding Properties.Settings to Textbox fails

  I would like to define a key & value in Settings.settings and bind the value by declaration in the XAML (not in the code behind by command). Here's what I've been trying in vain: Create a WPF project "Exp1" with Visual Studio Express 2010. Set one key named "TextFromSettings" to the value "Some Text from Setting". Add the attribute xmlns:p="clr-namespace:Exp1.Properties;assembly=Exp1" to the tag. Add Text="{Binding Path=TextFromSettings, Mode=TwoWay, Source={x:Static p:Settings.Default}}" to the tag Now, the preview window shows the text, however, the compiler fails: "Error 1 Cannot find the type 'Settings'. Note that type names are case sensitive." Where am I going wrong?

  Hello Everybody, I am very new to TDD, not yet started using it. But i know that we have to write test first and then actual code to pass the test and refactor it till good design. My concern over TDD is that where does it fit in our SDLC. Suppose i get a requirement of making order processing system. Now, without having any model & design of this system, how can i start writing test. Shouldn't we require to define the entities & its attribute to proceed. If not, is it possible to develop big system without any design. I am really very confused over it. Can anyone help me to start TDD. Thanks in advance.

  I want to design a webservice that returns a URI to a local resource on the webserver. What is the best (simplest) way to do this in C# using .asmx webservice? Or in other words - how can I get the URI for a physical file path in a webservice? Build a URI using the Uri class and the [WebService] namespace attribute? I know there is Server.MapPath(); that converts a virtual path into the corresponding physical path. I am looking for a way to do the opposite - having the physical path, I want to get not only the virtual path but the full URI. So if the webservice URI is http://some.server.com/services/example.asmx, the virtual path to the file I want to return is /Updates/file.xml and the physical path to that file is C:\Updates\file.xml what is the best way to get the URI http://some.server.com/updates/file.xml from that information? • Why is my form triggering the wrong controller action?

  This form has multiple submit buttons, when clicked, it calls a simple JavaScript function to change the value of a hidden input (function is called "setHidden". This worked before, after some other not relevant code, it has ceased working. Essentially, the action it is supposed to call is never called, instead it seems to default back to a previous URL. • Attaching catalog with SQL Authentication credentials attaches it as Read-Only

  Hello, As part of our product's installation process, a database is attached to the server. We use EXEC sp_attach_db in order to attach it to MSSQL. The problem occures when we try to attach it with "SQL Authentication" connection string - the database is attached to the server as read-only, thus preventing any write access from being performed This is driving us nuts... it's working just fine with Windows Authentication, and the only difference is the connection string... I tried googling for it but no mention for such a scenario is found. Any ideas anyone? It's important to mention that the MDF/LDF physical files are not set with "ReadOnly" attribute, so this is not the problem.

  Hey, I'm really struggling with this one. I have tried to sequentially map the data from Y[0][0] to Cr[MAX][MAX], even printed out the C struct in action but didn't manage to wrap my head around the method used to put the data in there. I've been struggling overnight with this and have to get back to the army tonight, so any immediate help is very welcome and appreciated. Thanks

I essentially want to order a query by a postgres function ('idx', taken from the above stackoverflow work) I've gone through trying to use model.objects.extra(order_by ) or simply order_by but I believe both of these need the order_by parameter to be an attribute or a field known to Django. I'm trying to think how to solve this without having to revert to using an entirely raw SQL query through a model manager.

How to print absolute line numbers in such error messages? EDIT: Maybe it's a dumb question, but answer will facilitate development a little. I'm printing text in several files. When done, press shortcut which runs python and copies contents of current file to console. Proposed solution forces to press excess keystrokes (Ctrl+S, Alt+Tab) and create additional files. I hope I have put it clear.

I've found tools for Ruby and PHP that will take a CSS file and some separate markup as input and return you the merged result - a single file of markup with all the CSS converted to style attributes. I'm looking for a Perl solution to this problem, but I've not found one on CPAN or by searching Google. Any pointers?   I have a image map set up and each area in the image map has a href defined. the href on area contains urls to other pages in my application. i generate a have a small ul which lists down name attribute of the area tag. i want the dynamically generated ul/lis to imitate click behaviour of area tag. for this, i have the following jquery set up - $('li').click(function(e){ $('area[name='+$(this).html()+']').trigger('click'); }); but the above works well only in ie6+. ff does not fire the click event. i also tried the click() variant but to no avail. looking forward for some help. • Empty dict-like collection problem in SQLAlchemy

  I have a mapping in SQLAlchemy that looks like this: t_property_value = sa.Table('property_value', MetaData, autoload = True, autoload_with = engine) orm.mapper(PropertyValue, t_property_value) t_estate = sa.Table('estate', MetaData, autoload = True, autoload_with = engine) orm.mapper(Estate, t_estate, properties = dict( property_hash = orm.relation(PropertyValue, collection_class = column_mapped_collection(t_property_value.c.property_id)) )) Now, everything seems to be fine, when I load the Estate object and it has some relations to PropertyValue objects. However, when it does not, then property_hash attribute is None, instead of being something dict-like, so I can not add new relations like this: estate.property_hash[prop_id] = PropertyValue(...) because I get the "'NoneType' object does not support item assignment" error. So, is there any way to force SQLAlchemy to create proper empty collection?

• What is a good practice for handling SQL connections within a WCF call?

  Suppose I want to create a (stateless) WCF service with three methods exposed on an endpoint: performSqlOperationA(), performSqlOperationB(), and performSqlOperationC(). Each method inserts data into a SQL database. The way I've seen things done at my office, each method would begin with code to initialize a SqlConnection object. Each method would end with code to safely dispose it. What is a good practice for coding these WCF methods so that the SqlConnection object is initialized and disposed in each method without having to do these things in each method? I know that I can have the connection initialized in the constructor for the class for the WCF methods, but I don't know about disposing it... The calls cannot be wrapped in a using block. One solution I'm familiar with is PostSharp, which allows me to set an attribute which causes specific code to automatically run at the beginning and end of each method call, but it would be greatly preferable to do this with only the .net framework.

• Floating images with multiple sizes in CSS

  I'm wanting to be able to create a banner of floating images based on what are uploaded via users. The tool needs to have images of 50x50 and 100x100. At the moment, I just want to randomly display the images and tried to apply float:left. However, as you can see below - it leaves gaps. Is there an easy way to do this without programatically positioning the images? I need to show pictures, but sometimes these pictures should only be shown for those who created them. So now when using the Authorize attribute and if picture and username match thrue my databse I could ofcause use this to make a match. I could ofcause make a match method in the controller. • Pass page scope attributes to a JSP using pagecontext.include for use in JSTL?

  We're using this JSP template solution almost verbatim at work: http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/javaserverpages/jsp_templates/ When it gets JSP pages to be included, it uses pageContext.include, which leaves us with one problem, and that is that we have a lot of scriplet code that gets initialized in the JSP itself (tag soup). My thought was to modify the template tag with an additional attribute that is a package path reference to a class with an init or execute method. That execute would get called first, and would add page context attributes before including the JSP. We would then use JSTL to access those attributes. However, I was told this wouldn't work because of how pageContext.include works, and the inability to pass through attributes scoped to the page. Is that true, and are there workarounds? I'm so-so on knowing all my scoping rules.
