• Deploying a PHP Library project with Maven

  Hi, I've created a PHP Library project using Maven, and I'm now ready for its deployment. Following the instructions at http://www.php-maven.org/deploy.html, something went wrong. • Custom Glassfish Security Realm does not work (unable to find LoginModule)

  I'm trying to get a Custom Security Realm in Glassfish working (i tried 3.0.1 final and 3.1 B33). I read nearly all tutorials about this, but it doesn not work on my System. I'm getting the error Login failed: javax.security.auth.login.LoginException: unable to find LoginModule class: de.company.security.utility.CustomLoginModule when trying to login. Here is what i did: I created a little Maven project, which contains the needed Realm class, CustomRealm, and the corresponding LoginModule, CustomLoginModule. • HttpPost works in Java project, not in Android

  I've written some code for my Android device to login to a web site over https and parse some data out of the resulting pages. An HttpGet happens first to get some info needed for login, then an HttpPost to do the actual login process. When run with the above Jar files I get the 302 redirect, however if I run the exact same code from an Android project with the 1.6 Android Jar file on the build path I get the 200 response from the server. I get the same 200 response when running the code on my 2.2 device. My android application has internet permissions, and the HttpGet works fine. I'm assuming that the problem lies in the fact that HttpPost (or some other class) is different in some significant way between the Android Jar version and the newer Apache versions. I've tried adding the Apache libraries to the build path of the Android project, but due to the duplicate classes I get messages like: INFO/dalvikvm(390): DexOpt: not resolving ambiguous class 'Lorg/apache/http/impl/client/DefaultHttpClient;' in the log. I've also tried using a MultipartEntity instead of the UrlEncodedFormEntity but I get the same 200 result. So, I have a few questions: - Can I force the code running under android to use the newer Apache libraries in preference to the Android versions? - If not, does anyone have any ideas how can I alter my code so that it works with the Android Jar? - Are there any other, totally different approaches to doing an HttpPost in Android? - Any other ideas? I've read a lot of posts and code but I'm not getting anywhere. I've been stuck on this for a couple of days and I'm at a loss how to get the thing to work, so I'll try anything at this point. • Does Ivy's url resolver support transitive retrieval?

  For some reason I can't seem to resolve the dependencies of my dependencies when using a url resolver to specify a repository's location. However, when using the ibiblio resolver, I am able to retrieve them. • Accessing your web server via IPv6

  Being able to run your systems on IPv6, have automatic address assignment and the ability to resolve host names are the necessary building blocks in your IPv6 network infrastructure. Now, that everything is in place it is about time that we are going to enable another service to respond to IPv6 requests. The following article will guide through the steps on how to enable Apache2 httpd to listen and respond to incoming IPv6 requests. This is the fourth article in a series on IPv6 configuration: Configure IPv6 on your Linux system DHCPv6: Provide IPv6 information in your local network Enabling DNS for IPv6 infrastructure Accessing your web server via IPv6 Piece of advice: This is based on my findings on the internet while reading other people's helpful articles and going through a couple of man-pages on my local system. Surfing the web - IPv6 style Enabling IPv6 connections in Apache 2 is fairly simply. But first let's check whether your system has a running instance of Apache2 or not. You can check this like so: $ service apache2 status Apache2 is running (pid 2680). In case that you got a 'service unknown' you have to install Apache to proceed with the following steps: $ sudo apt-get install apache2 Out of the box, Apache binds to all your available network interfaces and listens to TCP port 80. To check this, run the following command: $ sudo netstat -lnptu | grep "apache2\W*$"tcp6       0      0 :::80                   :::*                    LISTEN      28306/apache2 In this case Apache2 is already binding to IPv6 (and implicitly to IPv4). If you only got a tcp output, then your HTTPd is not yet IPv6 enabled. Check your Listen directive, depending on your system this might be in a different location than the default in Ubuntu. $ sudo nano /etc/apache2/ports.conf # If you just change the port or add more ports here, you will likely also# have to change the VirtualHost statement in# /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default# This is also true if you have upgraded from before 2.2.9-3 (i.e. from# Debian etch). Now, that the basics are in place, it's time to prepare any website to respond to incoming requests on the IPv6 address. Open up any configuration file you have below your sites-enabled folder. $ ls -al /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/... $ sudo nano /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default <VirtualHost *:80 [2001:db8:bad:a55::2]:8080>        ServerAdmin [email protected]        ServerName server.ios.mu        ServerAlias server Here, we have to check and modify the VirtualHost directive and enable it to respond to the IPv6 address and port our web server is listening to. Save your changes, run the configuration test and reload Apache2 in order to apply your modifications. After successful steps you can launch your favourite browser and navigate to your IPv6 enabled web server. Accessing an IPv6 address in the browser That looks like a successful surgery to me... Note: In case that you received a timeout, check whether your client is operating on IPv6, too.

• tcptrack shows SYN_SENT connections, does that mean the SYN package reached the server?

  our server suffered a serious connection timeout problem, so we track tcp connection with tcptrack we found out that, if the client started to connect to the server, tcptrack shows the connection, but in SYN_SENT status, and netstat -nat shows nothing. (tcptrack & netstat all runs on the server) does this mean the syn request reached the server? and no syn/ack was sent back? why the tcptrack could report this connection but netstat could not? what could be the problem that a general apache could not establish a connection with the client? i did a bench test using ab in the same intranet, to the specified NIC, it handled 10000 concurrent connection and 400000 requests ok ps: this doesn't happen every time, but did happened a lot pps: is there any good tools to trace where the tcp connection was lost?

• Effects of HTTP/TCP connection handshakes and server performance

  When running apache bench on the same server as the website like: ab -n 1000 -c 10 localhost:8080/ I am most probably not getting accurate results when compared to users hitting the server from various locations. I'm trying to understand how or rather why this will effect real world performance since a user in china will have different latency issues when compared to someone in the same state/country. Say my web server has a maximum thread limit of 100. Can someone explain in detail how end user latency can/will effect server performance. I'm assuming here that each request will be computed equally at say 10ms. What I'm not understand is how external factors can effect overal server performance, specifically internet connections (location, or even device like mobile) and http/tcp handshakes etc.

  looked around on the site but nothing really concrete on my question. i will have about 120GB of data total, files are made up of 5MB files, excel, word and about 25 .pst files that are about 1.2GB each. Yes they use .pst over network, even though it is not recommended this is legacy setup without issue so we will continue to support this for another year or so. I need to know what you think about a stripe size of 256kb for the raid 10 based on the above requirements. I did try and bench with these settings and it seems alright without any real issue, just trying to rule out anything i might of missed. thanks.

• Windows 7 Wireless Network Adapter Stopped Working

  I have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine where the wireless adapter all of a sudden started having trouble connecting to wireless networks. Whenever I go to a new place and try to connect to a wireless network, it says that the DNS server is not responding, and tells me to go unplug the router and try again. After several locations in a row telling me this, I began to realize something was wrong with my adapter, not the routers. I am no longer asked to identify the security level for any new networks (Work, Home, or Public) like I used to be (it defaults to Public now - with the park bench icon). Often, resetting the router doesn't even work. Running the Windows 7 troubleshooter doesn't give me anything better than the advice to reset the router. However, the adapter will still connect to the wireless network at my main office without any problems. Does anyone know why a wireless network adapter can get so finicky so suddenly? Thanks!

  I have the Transcend SSD 720 256GB 2,5" 7mm disk. And randomly I get disk IO in utorrent and large files copying to external will fail. I have removed it from my laptop since I need max stability. I use my laptop on exams. How can I really bench/make-it-sweat whilst connected to my desktop? I want to re-create some of the fails as I need proof if I am to return it. Firmware is updated. BIOS on laptop is updated. I could just completely nul the disk and then check for bad sectors, but is there anything else I could use for testing? Edit: It has 7 bad sector replacement operations. What does it mean?

• Open Source Projects for Beginning Coders?

  After working as a molecular biologist at the bench for many years, I lost my job last year and am thinking about a career change. I've been using open-source software and doing Linux system administration since the mid 90s, and have written/improved some small shell/Perl/PHP scripts, and am very comfortable building from source, but never progressed to creating non-trivial programs de novo. I want to move to actually learning real programming skills and contributing back to the community, with the possible eventual goal of getting into bioinformatics as a career in the future. I'm a stay-at-home dad now, so I have some time on my hands. I've done a lot of research on languages, and have settled on Python as my major focus for now. I'm set up on GitHub, but haven't forked anything yet. I've looked around OpenHatch some, but nothing really grabbed me. I've heard the advice to work on what you use/love, but that category is so broad that I'm having trouble finding any one thing to get started on. What are your suggestions for getting started? How do you pick a project that will welcome your (possibly amateurish) help? With a fairly limited skill set, how do you find a request that you can handle? What are common newbie mistakes to avoid? Any other advice?

• Windows Physical Direct Memory Mapping

  I'm a bit disappointed there is almost no discussion of this no matter where I look so I guess I'll have to ask. I'm writing a cross platform memory bench marking application which requires direct physical address mapping rather than virtual addressing. EDIT The solution would look something like the Linux/Unix system calls: int fd = open("/dev/mem", O_RDONLY); mmap(NULL, len, PROT_READ, MAP_SHARED, fd, PHYSICAL_ADDRESS_OFFSET); which will require the kernel to either give you a virtual page mapping to the desired physical address or return that it failed. This does require supervisor privileges but that is ok. I have seen a lot of information about shared memory and memory mapped files but all of these reside on disc and are thus not really useful when I'm trying to make a system dependent read. It is very similar to writing an IO driver although I do no need write permissions to the physical address. This site gives an example of how to do it on a driver level using the Windows Driver Kit: NT Insider: Sharing Memory between drivers and applications This solution would probably require Visual Studio which currently I do not have access to. (I have downloaded the WDK api but it complained about my use of GCC for Windows). I'm traditionally a Linux programmer so I'm hoping there might be something really simple I'm missing. • Where to place web.xml outside WAR file for secure redirect?

  I am running Tomcat 7 and am deploying a bunch of applications delivered to me by a third party as WAR files. I'd like to force some of those apps to always use SSL. (All the "SSL" apps are in one service; other apps outside this discussion are in another service.) I've figured out how to use conf\web.xml to redirect apps from HTTP to HTTPS, but that applies to all applications hosted by Tomcat. I've also figured out how to put web.xml in an unpacked app's web-inf directory; that does the trick for that specific app, but runs the risk of being overwritten if our vendor gives us a new war file to deploy. I've also tried placing the web.xml file in various places under conf\service\host, or under appbase, but none seem to work. Is it possible to redirect some apps to SSL without forcing all apps to redirect, or to put the web.xml file inside the extracted WAR file? • Xdebug configuration with PHP fastcgi and eclipse?

  I have been using eclipse-pdt in conjunction with xdebug and apache without problems, for over one year. Things worked flawlessly and I could do all the interactive debugging I wanted from within eclipse (using my own machine as a server). Now I switched from apache to nginx (and therefore PHP runs now not as an Apache service but as fast-cgi) and I can't find a way to configure eclipse to work nicely with xdebug. I am neither sure if the problem is with xdebug or with eclipse (or both) to be sure. In the eclipse configuration I already changed the reference to the PHP configuration file to /etc/php5/cli/php.ini. Attempts with php.ini version 1 With the following php.ini file zend_extension=/usr/lib/php5/20060613/xdebug.so I see that xdebug is working (for example if I do a var_dump() I get the xdebug version of it, not the plain PHP one) I can't have the interactive debugging from eclipse: the browser opens up and loads the page completely with the typical URL containing ...?XDEBUG_SESSION_START=ECLIPSE_DBGP&KEY=..., but the program execution does not stop at breakpoints In the bottom-right corner of eclipse I see a suspicious message: *"Launching =put_the_name_of_my_project_here=: 57%"* that alternates with the "refreshing workspace" one.   I am new at Maven and even newer at Clojure. As an exercise to learn the language, I am writing a spider solitaire player program. I also plan on writing a similar program in Scala to compare the implementations (see my post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2571267/modern-java-alternatives-closed). I have configured a Maven directory structure containing the usual src/main/clojure and src/test/clojure directories. My pom.xml file includes the clojure-maven-plugin. When I run "mvn test", it displays "No tests to run", despite my having test code in the src/test/clojure directory. As I misnaming something? • Using CakePHP with GoDaddy IIS 7 IIS7 and Microsoft URL Rewriter

  Hi, I'm trying to move a CakePHP app from a Windows Apache setup to a GoDaddy shared IIS7 setup. It's been easy to migrate except for the Apache mod_rewrite part -- which obviously wouldn't work in IIS7. I basically have no url rewriting capability, which is crucial for Cake to work. GoDaddy now offers MS URL Rewriter, but they don't offer technical support for it. I haven't seen any blog post that discusses how to do this in detail. I'd really like to avoid third-party software, especially since GoDaddy provides MS URL Rewriter, which ought to be more than sufficient. The mod_rewrite directives that will allow Cake to work on GoDaddy look ridiculously easy (pasted below); can someone help me convert it to a web.config I can use with URL Rewriter? The URL Rewriter manual is really long and complicated. I'd rather not have to read the whole thing if I don't have to.   I am using ant for my project and I have been trying to generate JUnit report using ant target. The problem I run in to is that at the end of the execution my TESTS-TestSuites.xml is empty. But all the other individual test xml files have data. And due to this my html reports are empty, in the sense results shows "0".
