  I have misconception in understanding the relationship between Ruby language and Ruby on Rails Framework. Because of 'I am an absolute beginner' in web development I have no idea if I have to grasp the fundamentals of Ruby before I go with Ruby on Rails! I also want to ask who is behind both Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Who is developing both? And is there intention to improve its speed? • Great library of ASP.NET videos – Pluralsight!

  I have been subscribed to the Pluralsight website and of course since ASP.NET is my favorite development technology, I passed throughout few series of videos related to ASP.NET. You have list of ASP.NET galleries from Fundamentals to Advanced topics including the latest features of ASP.NET 4.0, ASP.NET Ajax, ASP.NET MVC etc. Most of the speakers are either Microsoft MVPs or known technology experts! I was really curious to see the way they have organized the entire course materials, and trust me, I was quite amazed.   I just started working as a novice Web Developer. I know PHP pretty well, as well as some basic jQuery. Anyway, my boss told me I should explore and learn about MVC, Memcache, Design Patterns, how Apache servers work and how to set one up etc. What I want to ask is actually this: What should I learn further? Web Development is a big area and most odds are that I'll never stop learning, but what are the basics I should learn about? What are the fundamentals? Currently I'm focusing on Server Side Development, but a very big part of me also wants to become a front-end ninja, so please consider that in your comments. Thanks in advance, you rock. :)

  I earlier wrote an article about SQL SERVER – Fundamentals of Columnstore Index and it got very well accepted in community. However, one of the suggestion I keep on receiving for that article is that many of the reader wanted to see columnstore index in the action but they were not able to do that. Some of the readers did not install SQL Server 2012 or some did not have good machine to recreate the big table involved in the demo. For the same reason, I have created small video for that. • Understanding Backtracking in C++

  I have a good basic understanding of the fundamentals of C++, I also have an understanding of how recursion works too. I came across certain problems like the classic eight queens problem and solving a Sudoku with Backtracking. I realize that I'm quite lost when it comes to this, I can't seem to be able to get my mind around the concept of going back in the recursion stack and starting again in order to solve the problem. It seems easy with a pen and paper but when it comes to writing code for this, I'm confused on how to begin attacking these problems. It would be helpful if there were a tutorial aimed at beginners to backtracking or if there were a good book where this was covered. If somebody can shed light on this topic or give me some links to decent references, I'd be really grateful. And yes I do know that it would be easier in functional languages but I'd like to understand the implementation in imperative languages too.

  First of all, let me explain the matter. I'm in a class where we learn Java 6 OOP fundamentals. However, my goal is to learn PHP (the last version) next. So, my question: Is there a big difference between PHP and Java 6 in OOP concepts? Meaning that after I finish the OOP class in Java will I find a lot of things that need to be learned in PHP regarding OOP?   A few months ago I discovered a cool course called Rails for Zombies. This is a great site that allows us to write code and see the results. It takes us through the paces to get us up to speed with Rails. You have to pass each level (including code challenges) before being taken to the next level, and it gets you grounded in the fundamentals of Rails. I'm wondering if an interactive tutorial site exists for Javascript? One that will walk me through the paces of writing better Javascript, and challenge me along the way.

  As the title says, How important is Discrete Mathematics for a Computer Scientist? Background: I'm pursuing a Master's degree with a focus on fundamentals such as Algorithms, Complexity and Computability Theory and Programming Languages to get a good foundation for working in the field of Parallel Computing. Some more background: My university grants a lot of freedom in the choices of courses for my Master's degree. It's officially called "Software Engineering", but due to a the broad range of electives, a different focus is possible. Interestingly, none of the electives is a lecture in Math! I'm thinking about doing a course about Discrete Mathematics that would take half a semester to complete successfully, even if I can't use it for my degree. So with this question I'm trying to find out if the effort is justifiable.

  Code Retreat is an all-day training event that focuses on the fundamentals of software development. There's a "global" code retreat day coming up, and I'm looking forward to it. That said, I've been to one before and have to say there was a huge amount of chaos... which is fine. One thing that I still don't get is why the "Game of Life" is a good problem for TDD, and what good and bad TDD for it feels like.   The incorrect usage could lead to hard-to-debug problems so better to understand the fundamentals behind it's working.setpropertyListener queues an event on the server side, so if for a command component you have a showPopup behavior/actionListner as well as setPropertyListener then fwk does the queuing correctly and raises further event on the component. While, the setactionListener simply raises an event on the server side instead of queueing it, so any further event on command component gets cancelled.Also, if you use an ActionListener and showPopup behavior together on a command component, then the order of their invocation is undetermined and also one of event gets cancelled on the component. So, either use only actionListner and do the popup invocation stuff progrmmatically in your bean or use the declarative stuff logically so that no clash of event happens.
