  • How can I get MySQL 5.5 to log warnings to one of the log files?

    I have found various things that say that you can log warnings to the MySQL error log, but I have not been able to actually make it happen. I do have the error log working, and MySQL prints stuff to it on startup and shutdown and occasionally at other times, but if I e.g. SELECT CAST('123' AS DATE); and then SHOW WARNINGS; I can see the warning, but it does not show up in any logs. I've also tried enabling the general log and the slow query log, but these don't show the warnings either. I've tried with log_warnings = 1 and log_warnings = 2, but still no warnings are logged.   • Windows 7 Apache Crashes on ANY request

    I have XAMPP installed. I am running Windows 7. I have WordPress installed so that I may tweak it and test things locally before putting them 'live' on a remote server. I just installed BuddyPress. The installation was rather seamless. I activated the plugin and almost immediately, Apache crashed. I have Apache running as a service so it immediately restarted itself and was running BUT if I even so much as refresh the page (or create any other request), down it goes.   • Vagrant up doesn't load chef configs and doesn't keep an error log

  • How does the LeftHand SAN perform in a Production environment?

    Howdy, I previously asked this ServerFault question: Does anyone have experience with lefthands VSA SAN The general consensus looks like it does not perform well enough for a production SQL server even at a light load. So the new question is, How does LeftHand's SAN perform on the HP or Dell dedicated Hardware boxes? We are looking at the Starter SAN with 2 HP nodes in a 2-way replication, 2 ESX servers hosting a total of 2 Active Directory server, 1 MS SQL server, 1 File Server, and 1 General Purpose Server for things like Virus Scan (All Microsoft Server 2005 or 2008). The reason I am looking at LeftHand is for the complete software package. I plan to have a DR site and like how the SAN can perform an Async Replication to the offsite location without having to go back to the Vendor for more licenses. I also like the redundancy built into the Network Raid architecture. I have looked at other SANS and found different faults with them. For example, Dell's EqualLogic: Found that although the individual box is very redundant in hardware, the Data once spanned across multiple boxes is not redundant, if a node goes down you have lost the only copy of the data sitting on that hardware (One thing is certain, all hardware fails... When? is the only question.). I have used an XioTech SAN as well.. Well worth the money BTW, but I think it is overkill for the size of the office I am targeting. The cost to get the hardware redundancy in the XioTech makes it a little out of reach for the budget I am working in. Thank you, Keith

    Hello, I have Windows 7 and I have very strange thing with my network. Some time I was connected through wireless router and my IP was 192.168.2.103, router's IP was 192.168.2.1 and some other IP was 192.168.2.100. The last I get from page "active DHCP clients" of web interface of the router and from "wireless clients" I may to see that 192.168.2.100 not (!) belong to my MAC address. Router build by EDimax. So after that I disabled wireless function of the router and restarted it. In this time I had not ping to 192.168.2.1. Also I had not any other connection, not wireless nor cable, but (!) I still had ping to 192.168.2.100 and I not understand what this voodoo is...   • BizTalk configuration broken following WCF hotfix installation

    I usually post over on StackOverflow, but thought this was probably better suited to ServerFault. Please migrate if I'm wrong! I am developing a WCF service and a BizTalk application on my workstation at the moment. As part of the WCF service, I had to install hotfix 971493 from Microsoft which updates some core WCF assemblies. Following installation of that hotfix, I am now experiencing severe issues in my existing BizTalk application. When I attempt to configure the properties of an existing WCF-Custom receive location, I get this error: Error loading properties (System.IO.FileLoadException) The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) If I click OK (the same error repeats four times) I eventually see the WCF-Custom properties dialog. However if I click on the various tabs, I continue to receive errors: The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) (Microsoft.BizTalk.Adapter.Wcf.Admin) The WCF-Custom receive location was working yesterday, and I installed the hotfix this morning. I'm guessing these two are related, and that BizTalk somehow has a reference to the old WCF assemblies. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

  • Windows service runs file locally but not on server

    I created a simple Windows service in dot net which runs a file. When I run the service locally I see the file running in the task manager just fine. However, when I run the service on the server it won't run the file. I've checked the path to the file which is fine. I also checked the permissions on the folder and file, and they fine as well. Also there are no exceptions happening. Below is the code used to launch the process which runs the file. I posted this first on stack overflow, and some people were thinking this is a config issue, so I moved it here.     The Scheduled Task fails on the Event Data instruction in this XML: <ValueQueries> <Value name="eventChannel">Event/System/Channel</Value> <Value name="eventRecordID">Event/System/EventRecordID</Value> <Value name="eventData">Event/EventData/Data</Value> </ValueQueries> The other 2 fields can be passed as arguments and the EventData syntax matches other websites, so I don't know why it's failing.     Programs I found I found these programs to capture OpenGL 3D scene : 3D Ripper, OpenGL and D3D geometry capture, there are some solved problems with 3D Ripper GLIntercept captures OpenGL function calls OpenGL Extractor captures 3d geometry; should work as plugin for GLIntercept another tool to capture OpenGL 3D data EDIT: There is also HijackGL which changes how a scene is rendered so it probably can be used to capture geometry; it is backed up by a academic paper; it is just just a nice program, not related to what I want i think (or it would might be hard to change it to be for what I want, because it would require programming). 3D Ripper captures geometry, textures and shaders. OpenGL Extractor captures just geometry ... General questions about such programs What is Your experience with these programs? Which of these programs would You recommmend? Do You know other such programs? Were there any problems with them, or are there problems with them in general? Are there programs which work best overall, or is it specific to certain 3d applications? What I need to do? I am looking to program which can capture 3d geometry for study purposes. And also for a program to capture 3D animation (frames of 3d animation). I tried only 3D Ripper because application I try to capture data from is on Direct 3D. 3D Ripper works with at least Direct 3D 9, this application has Direct 3D 6.   • Resolving a BSOD/CPU/GPU issue...

    Hello all, I'm getting a BSOD / system crash (sometimes the PC just quits without a BSOD). Hardware Specifications cpu: i7 920 2666MHz / 8 cores (not OCed afaik) mobo: Asus P6T SE ram: 2x Corsair CM3X2G1333C9 (64bit DDR3 667MHz) gfx: ATI Radeon HD 5970 1GB (XFX HD5970 BE) os: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (legit) All bios, firmware and drivers are all up to date (as of today). Symptoms Sometimes the PC runs smoothly, sometimes I get this BSOD. The BSOD always happens when I'm doing something related to graphics, such as viewing a video or playing a game. I get to know about the imminent BSOD ~10 seconds earlier; the PC starts freezing occasionally but increasing in frequency and length of lag (I noticed processor usage in creased from Process Monitor). I've tweaked BIOS settings occasionally but afaik, it was in vain. A day or so ago, I reset it to factory settings. BSOD contents The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000101 (0x0000000000000019, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff88001f35180, 0x0000000000000004). 15-12-2010 A fatal hardware error has occurred. Reported by component: Processor Core Error Source: Machine Check Exception Error Type: Internal Timer Error Processor ID: 4 23-12-2010 A fatal hardware error has occurred. Also It is interesting to note that after hibernating my PC, I always get the BSOD.

  • Powershell Copy-Item fails silently

    I have a powershell 2.0 script running on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit that copies some Hyper-V .vhd files to another server as a 'backup solution'. The script gets a list of the .vhd's to copy then iterates over that list to copy them using Copy-Item. It also writes some logging info to a file as well. The files are copied to another server (Windows Server 2003 Sp2) into a directory compressed with NTFS compression. One of the files isn't copied. It's relatively big ~ 68Gb. The others are 20Gb or less. The wierd thing is that during the copy process the file appears on the destination server and the log file generated seems to indicate the file is copied due to the difference in the times of the log file entries. I see no error messages on the log file and nothing in the event log of either machine. Here's the code that does the copy.   • Monitoring / metric collection for system collectives that change a lot in time (a.k.a. cloud)

    When your server fleet doesn't change a lot in time, like when you're using bare-metal hosting, classic monitoring and metric collection solutions (Nagios, Munin) work well. But if the number of systems varies a lot in time, and may in fact vary rapidly, classic software is more difficult to setup and use. E.g., trying to make Nagios (monitoring) keep up with a rapidly evolving cloud infrastructure can be cumbersome. Same for Munin (metric collection). It's not just the configuration, but the way the information is conveyed to the user, or displayed, is inadequate for the cloud. What are some possible alternatives that work well with the cloud? The goals are to collect and display metrics (analog to Munin), and generate alerts when certain metrics go out of bounds or when certain services are unavailable (analog to Nagios), and do everything in a cloud-friendly manner. Some cloud providers offer monitoring / metric collection as services, but not always, and if you use more than one provider you don't want to become too dependent of just one vendor. So provider-independent solutions are required. EDIT: I am asking this question in a general fashion - not limited to any given cloud infrastructure (like OpenStack), but in the general case of using arbitrary cloud providers.

I installed the same web development apps: Apache 2, PHP 5.3.2, Mysql 5, etc. All versions the same as my old laptop. A Mediawiki site (version 1.15) was copied over from my old system (via the Migration Assistant). Having a fresh Mysql setup, I dumped my old database and imported it on the new system.     I have a pile of Sun X2200-M2 servers. These servers have ECC memory. But I am thinking that if the error is Correctable, then there's no immediate issue -- I can treat this as a warning and be prepared to pull the stick/pair if an uncorrectable error starts occurring?

  • Restrict SSH user to connection from one machine

    During set-up of a home server (running Kubuntu 10.04), I created an admin user for performing administrative tasks that may require an unmounted home. This user has a home directory on the root partition of the box. The machine has an internet-facing SSH server, and I have restricted the set of users that can connect via SSH, but I would like to restrict it further by making admin only accessible from my laptop (or perhaps only from the local 192.168.1.0/24 range). I currently have only an AllowGroups ssh-users with myself and admin as members of the ssh-users group. What I want is something that works like you may expect this setup to work (but it doesn't): $ groups jonathan ... ssh-users $ groups admin ... ssh-restricted-users $ cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config ... AllowGroups ssh-users [email protected].* ... Is there a way to do this? I have also tried this, but it did not work (admin could still log in remotely): AllowUsers [email protected].* * AllowGroups ssh-users with admin a member of ssh-users. I would also be fine with only allowing admin to log in with a key, and disallowing password logins, but I could find no general setting for sshd; there is a setting that requires root logins to use a key, but not for general users.

  • TFS 2012: Backup Plan Fails with empty log file

    I have a Team Foundation Server 2012 installation with Power Tools, and I defined a backup plan using the wizard found in the "Database Backup Tools" in the Team Foundation Server Administration Console. I set the backup plan to do a full database backup on Sunday mornings, to another server in the network. I followed the wizard with no problems and the Backup Plan was set successfully. We have recently migrated all of our clients' sites to a new server running IIS7 - all the sites were originally running on a server running IIS6. Ever since the migration, lots of our clients are reporting error messages. There seems to be quite a number of issues related to sending emails and also, we have had the following error message reported by several different clients: Server Error in '/' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. I have read elsewhere that this error can appear if a button is clicked before the whole page has finished loading. But as this error has now appeared on multiple sites and only since the server migration, it seems to me that it must be something else. I was wondering if someone could tell me if there is something specific which needs to be changed for .NET sites when sites are moved from a server running IIS6 to a server running IIS7? I don't deal with the actual servers very much so I'm afraid this is very much a grey area for me. Any help would be very much appreciated.

  • Why is SMF manifest losing configuration data when exported on SmartOS?

    I'm running a server process under SMF (Server Management Facility) on Joyent's Base64 1.8.1 SmartOS image. For those not aqauinted with SmartOS, it is a cloud-based distribution of IllumOS with KVM. But essentially it is like Solaris and inherits from OpenSolaris. So even if you've not used SmartOS, I'm hoping to tap into some Solaris knowledge on ServerFault. My issue is that I want an unprivileged user to be allowed to restart a service that they own. I have worked out how to do that by using RBAC and adding an authorisation to /etc/security/auth_attr and associating that authorisation with my user. I then added the following to my SMF manifest for the service: <property_group name='general' type='framework'> <!-- Allow to be restarted--> <propval name='action_authorization' type='astring' value='solaris.smf.manage.my-server-process' /> <!-- Allow to be started and stopped --> <propval name='value_authorization' type='astring' value='solaris.smf.manage.my-server-process' /> </property_group> And this works well when imported. My unprivileged user is allowed to restart, start and stop its own server process (this is for automated code deployments). However, if I export the SMF manifest, this configuration data is gone... all I see in that section is this: <property_group name='general' type='framework'> <property name='action_authorization' type='astring'/> <property name='value_authorization' type='astring'/> </property_group> Does anybody know why this is happening? Is my syntax wrong, or am I simply not using SMF incorrectly?
