    Why do browser vendors make their own css properties, even they know these will not pass the w3c validation? What is the purpose?     Hi experts, Assuming you've already had a chance to look through the lambda syntax proposed for Java7 (and the other things that have happened with Java, after Oracle has bought Sun + obvious problems in Java Community Process), what do you think is the future of Java language? Should I, as a Java greenhorn, invest time in learning Java language (not talking about the core JVM, which definitely will survive anything, and worth investments), or concentrate on Scala, Groovy, or other hybrid languages on the JVM platform (I've came into Java world from PHP/Ruby).   • Massive git commit squashing

    My company is in the middle of converting from CVS over to git. We've been on CVS for a long time, so there is a huge history. Too much to do by hand. Looking at the logs, there is a lot of squashing that could be done. A whole lot. What I would like to do is hook in a script that will compare two adjacent commits. If it returns true, then concatenate the commit messages and squash the commits. I would also be happy with a command that accepts two commits and a commit message, then squashes them together. git rebase --interactive is close to what I need, but "squash" requires far too much manual intervention. I also looked at using "fixup" instead of squash, but I don't want to lose the commit messages. Any ideas?

    Java EJB's EntityManager does not update data from a Consumer. A Consumer logs into a shop, buys some stuff and wants to look at his shopping-history. Everything is displayed but his last purchase. If he logs out and in, it shows. I have used JPA to persist buys/purchases (that are mapped to the Consumer)to DB. It seems like purchases from this session can't be detected.   • Why do people develop emotional attachments for programming languages?

    Aside from people who actually developed the languages, I really don't get how someone can develop passion/attachment/perhaps even obsession for a programming language... yet not a day goes by that I don't see a programmer exhibiting this behavior on the internet. I understand how people can feel this way regarding spoken languages - but there's a whole boatload of culture, history, etc that come attached with them. By comparison, the "Python Culture" (as an example) is so small as to be wholly insignificant. Does everyone have a language they love? Am I the odd one out? The dirty polygamist? Are these people rational or silly?

I have followed all the tutorials on the developer site for installing Eclipse, the SDK and the ADT plugin.     I am stuck between row vs colunms table design for storing some items but the decision is which table is easier to manage and if colunms then how many colunms are best to have? For example I have object meta data, ideally there are 45 pieces of information (after being normalized) on the same level that i need to store per object. So is 45 colunms in a heavry read/write table good? Can it work flawless in a real world situation of heavy concurrent read/writes?

    How can I switch to the document to the left or right of the current document in Notepad++? For example, if I have documents A, B, and C open, and I'm currently editing B, I would like a shortcut to be able to switch to A (Alt-LeftArrow or Ctrl-Pageup) or C (Alt-RightArrow or Ctrl-PageDown). Is this possible? All I've found is a way to switch to next or previous documents based on the "history" of when the document was last opened (Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab), which are useful, but not what I want.
