• How to select all parents of a node in a hierarchical mysql table?

  I have a MySQL table that represents data for a tree GUI component, here's the structure of my table: treeTable ( id INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, parentId INT, name VARCHAR(255) ); parentId is a self-referencing foreign key. Now I want to write a stored procedure which gets a node id and returns a result set that contains that node and all of its parents. For example, suppose that my table has filled with this data: 1, null, 'root' 2, 1 , 'level_1' 3, 2 , 'level_2' Now I want to get all parent nodes of node 3 (nodes 1 and 2) and return a result set that contains all tree records. Can anybody help me please?

Which is the same as test4 and test6 but they're actually slower? 2. I don't seem a consistent performance difference when calling test4 and test6, shouldn't static calls to be always faster?

  strtok wont work correctly when using char *str as the first parameter (not the delimiters string). does it have something to do with the area that allocates strings in that notation?   I have an actionlink that on click im passing a List of objects to a controller action. Example: View: Html.ActionLink("TestLink", "TestMethod", "Test", Model.SampleList, null) TestController: public ActionResult TestMethod(List sampleList) { return View(sampleList); } When I do this I get a null sampleList. I can pass a single complex object fine just not a collection of it. Do I need the correct routing for this? The reason I'm doing this is instead of passing an id and do a look up in the controller action, I just pass in the data.

• EF4 Import/Lookup thousands of records - my performance stinks!

  I'm trying to setup something for a movie store website (using ASP.NET, EF4, SQL Server 2008), and in my scenario, I want to allow a "Member" store to import their catalog of movies stored in a text file containing ActorName, MovieTitle, and CatalogNumber as follows: Actor, Movie, CatalogNumber John Wayne, True Grit, 4577-12 (repeated for each record) This data will be used to lookup an actor and movie, and create a "MemberMovie" record, and my import speed is terrible if I import more than 100 or so records using these tables: Actor Table: Fields = {ID, Name, etc.} Movie Table: Fields = {ID, Title, ActorID, etc.} MemberMovie Table: Fields = {ID, CatalogNumber, MovieID, etc.} My methodology to import data into the MemberMovie table from a text file is as follows (after the file has been uploaded successfully): Create a context. For each line in the file, lookup the artist in the Actor table. For each Movie in the Artist table, lookup the matching title. If a matching Movie is found, add a new MemberMovie record to the context and call ctx.SaveChanges(). The performance of my implementation is terrible. My expectation is that this can be done with thousands of records in a few seconds (after the file has been uploaded), and I've got something that times out the browser. My question is this: What is the best approach for performing bulk lookups/inserts like this? Should I call SaveChanges only once rather than for each newly created MemberMovie? Would it be better to implement this using something like a stored procedure? When i update/modify the record, dateModified and dateCreated remains as is? What should i do? Obviously, i need to dateCreated value to remain as was inserted the first time and dateModified keeps changing when a change/modification occurs in the record fields. In other words, can you please write a sample quick trigger? I don't know much yet... Any help will be appreciated.

(I even enclosed that in brackets and tried but same result) Am i doing something wrong here?

So far my code looks like this however the answer im getting is larger than the actual height by 1, but when I remove the +1 from my return statements its less than the actual height by 1? Now I want to edit the entry. I've been using a generic function: def generic_edit(request, modelname, object_id): modelname = modelname.lower() form_class = form_dict[modelname] return update_object(request, form_class = form_class, object_id = object_id, template_name = 'createdit.html' ) but this pulls in all the info except the many-to-many selections saved to this object. I think I need to do something similar to this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1700202/editing-both-sides-of-m2m-in-admin-page, but I haven't figured it out. How do I use the generic update_object to edit the other side of many-to-many link?

I can give a full implementation if necessary - is there anything in my code that's going to create a null pointer?

Because Validation.Errors may be an empty collection and in ordinary C# code this code may throw an exception. If this data-binding returns null for valid input - the null value is then casted to empty string (in a text control for example)? The index 0 corresponds to the first error message. How can I return more error messages from Validate method? Thank you for responses!

• What's the diffrence btw System property and system environment variable

  Hi all I am not clear about this. When I run a java App or run an Applet in applet viewer,( in the IDE environment), System.getProperty("java.class.path") give me the same as System.getenv("CLASSPATH"), which is the CLASSPATH env variable defined. But when I deploy my applet to webserver and access it from the same computer as a client, I get different result for the two (System.getProperty("java.class.path") only point to jre home and System.getenv("CLASSPATH") return null). And here is some other things that make me wonder: For the applet part, the env var JAVA_HOME, i get the same result when deploying the applet in a browser as well as Applet Viewer. And if I define myself a env variable at system level, and use getenv("envName") the result is null. Is there anyway I can define one and get it in my java program? Thanks a lot Regards K.

• Query Returning value as 0

  I am trying to execute following PL/SQL script in SQL Developer. The loop should return count of nulls but somehow everytime it is returning 0. set serveroutput on DECLARE --v_count number; v_count_null number; BEGIN execute immediate 'select count(*) from SP_MOSAIX' into v_count; FOR i in (select column_name from all_tab_COLUMNS where table_name = 'SP_MOSAIX') LOOP select count(*) into v_count_null from SP_MOSAIX where i.column_name IS NULL ; dbms_output.put_line(v_count_null); END LOOP; END; So when I run this, following output is what i get: 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 But if I manually execute the query subsituting column_name I get the result. select count(*) into v_count_null from SP_MOSAIX where i.column_name IS NULL; Can anybody help on this?

• [Java] Send cookie with http request problem

  I'm trying to get a certain cookie in a java client by creating a series of Http requests. It looks like I'm getting a valid cookie from the server but when I'm sending out a request to the fnal url with the seemingly valid cookie I should get some lines of xml in the response but the response is blank because the cookie isw rong or is invalidated because a session has closed or an other problem which I can't figure out. The cookie handed out by the server expires at the end of the session. It seems to me the cookie is valid because when I do the same calls in firefox, a similar cookie with the same name and starting with the 3 first same letters and of the same length is stored in firefox, also expiring at the end of the session. If I then make a request to the final url with only this particular cookie stored in firefox (removed all other cookies), the xml is nicely rendered on the page. Any ideas about what I am doing wrong in this piece of code? • Question about layout in java.

  I have two panels main_panel and child_panel. I have set layout for main_panel by using "main_panel.setLayout(flowlayout)" and added child_panel in main_panel by using "main_panel.add(child_panel)". This child_panel gets added to main_panel but its position is at the cross-section of horizontal midpoint and top vertical section of screen. But I want child_panel to be at the top left corner, something I could have done by using "child_panel.setlocation(a,b)" method, if I have set the Layout of main_panel as NULL. I have used flowlayout here because I want components in the JPanel to keep adjusting with the size of JFrame. So question is, can I add child_panel to main_panel at the exact location I want, even if I set the Layout of main_panel as not NULL.
