  • Detecting right-click on XAML GridView control item

    - by mbrit
Leaving aside why you would ever want to do this in a touch-centric world, here's how you tell if the right-mouse button has been clicked on a GridView in XAML/WinRT/Metro-style. You have to retrieve a point relative to the UI element you're in, and then query its properties. void itemGridView_PointerPressed(object sender, PointerRoutedEventArgs e) { if (e.GetCurrentPoint(this).Properties.IsRightButtonPressed) { this.BottomAppBar.IsOpen = true; } } (The reason why you might want to do this can be explained by looking at any of the built-in Win8 apps. You can right-click any of the items on any list to bring up a context-sensitive AppBar.)

  • Grouping GridView on Windows 8

    - by nmarun
It took me a few minutes to get the grouping working on the GridView on my Windows 8 app. I’m sharing what I did just so others can get it working sooner and go by the rest of their work. In VS 2012, I added a Grouped Items Page to my Windows 8 application project. By default, the template will add some sample data, so you can just run it to see how things look. Let’s see what it takes to show our custom data on the page. I’ll stat with the data source. 1: public class Team 2: { 3: public Team( string...(read more)

  • Sorting array of 1000 distinct integers in the range [1, 5000], accessing each element at most once

    - by Cronydevil
Suppose you have an array of 1000 integers. The integers are in random order, but you know each of the integers is between 1 and 5000 (inclusive). In addition, each number appears only once in the array. Assume that you can access each element of the array only once. Describe an algorithm to sort it. How i can sorting? If you used auxiliary storage in your algorithm, can you find an algorithm that remains O(n) space complexity?

  • Which parallel sorting algorithm has the best average case performance?

    - by Craig P. Motlin
Sorting takes O(n log n) in the serial case. If we have O(n) processors we would hope for a linear speedup. O(log n) parallel algorithms exist but they have a very high constant. They also aren't applicable on commodity hardware which doesn't have anywhere near O(n) processors. With p processors, reasonable algorithms should take O(n/p log n/p) time. In the serial case, quick sort has the best runtime complexity on average. A parallel quick sort algorithm is easy to implement (see here and here). However it doesn't perform well since the very first step is to partition the whole collection on a single core. I have found information on many parallel sort algorithms but so far I have not seen anything pointing to a clear winner. I'm looking to sort lists of 1 million to 100 million elements in a JVM language running on 8 to 32 cores.

  • jQuery Filtering Gridview Columns

    - by RSchmitt
I'm looking to have a click event for all columns but the last column of a GridView and then have a separate click event for the last column of the gridview (a DropDownList). I have the following right now but just can't seem to get it to exclude the last column: var _activeRow; $('.gridview-jquerify tr').filter(function() { return $('td', this).length && !$('table', this).length }) .bind('click', function(e) { if (_activeRow) _activeRow.removeClass('gridviewrow-highlighted'); _activeRow = $(this).addClass('gridviewrow-highlighted'); $(this).each(function() { var myID = $(this).find('.gridview-cell-hide').html(); __doPostBack('MyUpdatePanel', myID); }); }); Then I can't seem to get a variation of the above to work for the last column by doing a filter using :last in the selector such as: $('.gridview-jquerify tr >td:last').filter(function() { return $('td)', this).length && !$('table', this).length })

  • C#: Changing the order of columns when binding DataTable to a GridView

    - by Nir
How is it possible to change the displayed order of columns from a DataTable? For example, dataTable "dt" contains two columns "a" and "b". I bind it to a GridView like this: gridView.DataSource = dt; gridView.DataBind(); But I'd like the GridView to display "b" first (leftmost). Important point: I'm using this to export to Excel and there's no actual output to screen, using: HtmlTextWriter htw = new HtmlTextWriter(sw); gridView.RenderControl(htw); Thanks!

  • GridView ObjectDataSource LINQ Paging and Sorting using multiple table query.

    - by user367426
I am trying to create a pageing and sorting object data source that before execution returns all results, then sorts on these results before filtering and then using the take and skip methods with the aim of retrieving just a subset of results from the database (saving on database traffic). this is based on the following article: http://www.singingeels.com/Blogs/Nullable/2008/03/26/Dynamic_LINQ_OrderBy_using_String_Names.aspx Now I have managed to get this working even creating lambda expressions to reflect the sort expression returned from the grid even finding out the data type to sort for DateTime and Decimal. public static string GetReturnType<TInput>(string value) { var param = Expression.Parameter(typeof(TInput), "o"); Expression a = Expression.Property(param, "DisplayPriceType"); Expression b = Expression.Property(a, "Name"); Expression converted = Expression.Convert(Expression.Property(param, value), typeof(object)); Expression<Func<TInput, object>> mySortExpression = Expression.Lambda<Func<TInput, object>>(converted, param); UnaryExpression member = (UnaryExpression)mySortExpression.Body; return member.Operand.Type.FullName; } Now the problem I have is that many of the Queries return joined tables and I would like to sort on fields from the other tables. So when executing a query you can create a function that will assign the properties from other tables to properties created in the partial class. public static Account InitAccount(Account account) { account.CurrencyName = account.Currency.Name; account.PriceTypeName = account.DisplayPriceType.Name; return account; } So my question is, is there a way to assign the value from the joined table to the property of the current table partial class? i have tried using. from a in dc.Accounts where a.CompanyID == companyID && a.Archived == null select new { PriceTypeName = a.DisplayPriceType.Name}) but this seems to mess up my SortExpression. Any help on this would be much appreciated, I do understand that this is complex stuff.

  • Refresh a GridView after some event on server

    - by Attilah
I use a GridView to represent data from a table in my DB. the GridView has some template fields whose content are determined before displaying the Grid ( I use the RowDataBound event to determine content of template fields before displaying the GridView). The page displays a list of records from the table records and then, the recording process starts. after the process is over, the template fields should be updated. how do I automatically refresh the GridView after the process is finished ? it should be noted that the GridView is contained within an control and that I continuously poll the server using a Timer control that executes "GridView1.DataBind()" at the server level every 60 seconds. How can I solve this ?

  • ASP.NET MVC Paging/Sorting/Filtering using the MVCContrib Grid and Pager

    - by rajbk
This post walks you through creating a UI for paging, sorting and filtering a list of data items. It makes use of the excellent MVCContrib Grid and Pager Html UI helpers. A sample project is attached at the bottom. Our UI will eventually look like this. The application will make use of the Northwind database. The top portion of the page has a filter area region. The filter region is enclosed in a form tag. The select lists are wired up with jQuery to auto post back the form. The page has a pager region at the top and bottom of the product list. The product list has a link to display more details about a given product. The column headings are clickable for sorting and an icon shows the sort direction. Strongly Typed View Models The views are written to expect strongly typed objects. We suffix these strongly typed objects with ViewModel since they are designed specifically for passing data down to the view.  The following listing shows the ProductViewModel. This class will be used to hold information about a Product. We use attributes to specify if the property should be hidden and what its heading in the table should be. This metadata will be used by the MvcContrib Grid to render the table. Some of the properties are hidden from the UI ([ScaffoldColumn(false)) but are needed because we will be using those for filtering when writing our LINQ query. public ActionResult Index( string productName, int? supplierID, int? categoryID, GridSortOptions gridSortOptions, int? page) {   var productList = productRepository.GetProductsProjected();   // Set default sort column if (string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(gridSortOptions.Column)) { gridSortOptions.Column = "ProductID"; }   // Filter on SupplierID if (supplierID.HasValue) { productList = productList.Where(a => a.SupplierID == supplierID); }   // Filter on CategoryID if (categoryID.HasValue) { productList = productList.Where(a => a.CategoryID == categoryID); }   // Filter on ProductName if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(productName)) { productList = productList.Where(a => a.ProductName.Contains(productName)); }   // Create all filter data and set current values if any // These values will be used to set the state of the select list and textbox // by sending it back to the view. var productFilterViewModel = new ProductFilterViewModel(); productFilterViewModel.SelectedCategoryID = categoryID ?? -1; productFilterViewModel.SelectedSupplierID = supplierID ?? -1; productFilterViewModel.Fill();   // Order and page the product list var productPagedList = productList .OrderBy(gridSortOptions.Column, gridSortOptions.Direction) .AsPagination(page ?? 1, 10);     var productListContainer = new ProductListContainerViewModel { ProductPagedList = productPagedList, ProductFilterViewModel = productFilterViewModel, GridSortOptions = gridSortOptions };   return View(productListContainer); } The following diagram shows the rest of the key ViewModels in our design. We have a container class called ProductListContainerViewModel which has nested classes. The ProductPagedList is of type IPagination<ProductViewModel>. The MvcContrib expects the IPagination<T> interface to determine the page number and page size of the collection we are working with. You convert any IEnumerable<T> into an IPagination<T> by calling the AsPagination extension method in the MvcContrib library. It also creates a paged set of type ProductViewModel. The ProductFilterViewModel class will hold information about the different select lists and the ProductName being searched on. It will also hold state of any previously selected item in the lists and the previous search criteria (you will recall that this type of state information was stored in Viewstate when working with WebForms). With MVC there is no state storage and so all state has to be fetched and passed back to the view. The GridSortOptions is a type defined in the MvcContrib library and is used by the Grid to determine the current column being sorted on and the current sort direction. The following shows the view and partial views used to render our UI. The Index view expects a type ProductListContainerViewModel which we described earlier. <%Html.RenderPartial("SearchFilters", Model.ProductFilterViewModel); %> <% Html.RenderPartial("Pager", Model.ProductPagedList); %> <% Html.RenderPartial("SearchResults", Model); %> <% Html.RenderPartial("Pager", Model.ProductPagedList); %> The View contains a partial view “SearchFilters” and passes it the ProductViewFilterContainer. The SearchFilter uses this Model to render all the search lists and textbox. The partial view “Pager” uses the ProductPageList which implements the interface IPagination. The “Pager” view contains the MvcContrib Pager helper used to render the paging information. This view is repeated twice since we want the pager UI to be available at the top and bottom of the product list. The Pager partial view is located in the Shared directory so that it can be reused across Views. The partial view “SearchResults” uses the ProductListContainer model. This partial view contains the MvcContrib Grid which needs both the ProdctPagedList and GridSortOptions to render itself. The Controller Action An example of a request like this: /Products?productName=test&supplierId=29&categoryId=4. The application receives this GET request and maps it to the Index method of the ProductController. Within the action we create an IQueryable<ProductViewModel> by calling the GetProductsProjected() method. /// <summary> /// This method takes in a filter list, paging/sort options and applies /// them to an IQueryable of type ProductViewModel /// </summary> /// <returns> /// The return object is a container that holds the sorted/paged list, /// state for the fiters and state about the current sorted column /// </returns> public ActionResult Index( string productName, int? supplierID, int? categoryID, GridSortOptions gridSortOptions, int? page) {   var productList = productRepository.GetProductsProjected();   // Set default sort column if (string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(gridSortOptions.Column)) { gridSortOptions.Column = "ProductID"; }   // Filter on SupplierID if (supplierID.HasValue) { productList.Where(a => a.SupplierID == supplierID); }   // Filter on CategoryID if (categoryID.HasValue) { productList = productList.Where(a => a.CategoryID == categoryID); }   // Filter on ProductName if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(productName)) { productList = productList.Where(a => a.ProductName.Contains(productName)); }   // Create all filter data and set current values if any // These values will be used to set the state of the select list and textbox // by sending it back to the view. var productFilterViewModel = new ProductFilterViewModel(); productFilterViewModel.SelectedCategoryID = categoryID ?? -1; productFilterViewModel.SelectedSupplierID = supplierID ?? -1; productFilterViewModel.Fill();   // Order and page the product list var productPagedList = productList .OrderBy(gridSortOptions.Column, gridSortOptions.Direction) .AsPagination(page ?? 1, 10);     var productListContainer = new ProductListContainerViewModel { ProductPagedList = productPagedList, ProductFilterViewModel = productFilterViewModel, GridSortOptions = gridSortOptions };   return View(productListContainer); } The supplier, category and productname filters are applied to this IQueryable if any are present in the request. The ProductPagedList class is created by applying a sort order and calling the AsPagination method. Finally the ProductListContainerViewModel class is created and returned to the view. You have seen how to use strongly typed views with the MvcContrib Grid and Pager to render a clean lightweight UI with strongly typed views. You also saw how to use partial views to get data from the strongly typed model passed to it from the parent view. The code also shows you how to use jQuery to auto post back. The sample is attached below. Don’t forget to change your connection string to point to the server containing the Northwind database. NorthwindSales_MvcContrib.zip My name is Kobayashi. • Java Alphabetize Algorithm Insertion sort vs Bubble Sort

    - by Chris Okyen
I am supposed to "Develop a program that alphabetizes three strings. The program should allow the user to enter the three strings, and then display the strings in alphabetical order." It's instructed that I need to use the String library compareTo()/charAt()/toLowerCase() to make all the characters lowercase so the Lexicon comparison is also a alphabetical comparison. Input Pseudo Code: String input[3]; Scanner keyboard = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Enter three strings: "); for(byte i = 0; i < 3; i++) input[i] = keyboard.next() The sorting would be Insertion Sort: 321 2 3 1 2 31 231 1 23 1 2 3 1 23 1 23 123 Bubble Sort 321 231 213 123 Which would be more efficient in this case? The bubble sort seems to be more efficient though they seem to have equal stats for worst best and avg case, but I read the Insertion Sort is quicker for small amounts of data like my case.

  • Sprite sorting issues

    - by TheBroodian
I apologize for the vague title, I'm not sure how else to phrase this problem. I am using tIDE to assist me in my game's world development. To give a dynamic effect to map layers within tIDE, it has events that can be wired up to draw sprites before or after the draw of layers, to create foreground or background effects during runtime. This all works fine and well, however, the only way that I understand that this works, is by calling tIDE's internal spritebatch to create this effect. This creates a problem for me, because within tIDE's source code, its spritebatch's call block is set to SpriteSortMode.Deferred, and my characters have particle elements that I would like to draw in front of and behind themselves, via a drawdepth value. I can use a separate instance of spritebatch and call my character's draw method, and set sprite sorting there, but then my character is drawn ontop of all layers in my tIDE map. Which is even worse to me than my particles not being drawn as I want them to be. So, in summary, I want all of my crap to work, but at the moment the only way I can figure to do that is to ghetto rig the spritebatch within my characters' draw methods by calling a spritebatch.End();, then starting a new call to Begin() with SpriteSortMode.BackToFront, doing all of my characters' draw logic, and then calling another spritebatch.End(); followed once again by a new spritebatch.Begin(). Obviously that is pretty undesirable, but I don't know any other feasible alternatives. Anybody got any wisdom they could impart unto me as to how I could handle this?

  • Sorting Algorithm : output

    - by Aaditya
I faced this problem on a website and I quite can't understand the output, please help me understand it :- Bogosort, is a dumb algorithm which shuffles the sequence randomly until it is sorted. But here we have tweaked it a little, so that if after the last shuffle several first elements end up in the right places we will fix them and don't shuffle those elements furthermore. We will do the same for the last elements if they are in the right places. For example, if the initial sequence is (3, 5, 1, 6, 4, 2) and after one shuffle we get (1, 2, 5, 4, 3, 6) we will keep 1, 2 and 6 and proceed with sorting (5, 4, 3) using the same algorithm. Calculate the expected amount of shuffles for the improved algorithm to sort the sequence of the first n natural numbers given that no elements are in the right places initially. Input: 2 6 10 Output: 2 1826/189 877318/35343 For each test case output the expected amount of shuffles needed for the improved algorithm to sort the sequence of first n natural numbers in the form of irreducible fractions. I just can't understand the output.

  • Sorting for 2D Drawing

    - by Nexian
okie, looked through quite a few similar questions but still feel the need to ask mine specifically (I know, crazy). Anyhoo: I am drawing a game in 2D (isometric) My objects have their own arrays. (i.e. Tiles[], Objects[], Particles[], etc) I want to have a draw[] array to hold anything that will be drawn. Because it is 2D, I assume I must prioritise depth over any other sorting or things will look weird. My game is turn based so Tiles and Objects won't be changing position every frame. However, Particles probably will. So I am thinking I can populate the draw[] array (probably a vector?) with what is on-screen and have it add/remove object, tile & particle references when I pan the screen or when a tile or object is specifically moved. No idea how often I'm going to have to update for particles right now. I want to do this because my game may have many thousands of objects and I want to iterate through as few as possible when drawing. I plan to give each element a depth value to sort by. So, my questions: Does the above method sound like a good way to deal with the actual drawing? What is the most efficient way to sort a vector? Most of the time it wont require efficiency. But for panning the screen it will. And I imagine if I have many particles on screen moving across multiple tiles, it may happen quite often. For reference, my screen will be drawing about 2,800 objects at any one time. When panning, it will be adding/removing about ~200 elements every second, and each new element will need adding in the correct location based on depth.

  • How do I figure out the minimum number of swaps to sort a list in-place?

    - by sova
    In-place sorting is essentially swapping elements without using extra storage, correct? How can I find the minimum number of swaps required for a list? A C D Q R Z E // input | | | > > > <<< // movement A C D E Q R Z // output Swapping: A C D Q R Z E swap Q with E, ACDERZQ swap R with Q, ACDEQZR swap R with Z, ACDEQRZ. done. 3 swaps. Shifting items left or right is essentially swapping, but I want the optimal number for plucking an item out of line and switching its place with another.

  • Grouping IP Addresses based on ranges [on hold]

    - by mustard
Say I have 5 different categories based on IP Address ranges for monitoring user base. What is the best way to categorize a list of input IP addresses into one of the 5 categories depending on which range it falls into? Would sorting using a segment tree structure be efficient? Specifically - I'm looking to see if there are more efficient ways to sort IP addresses into groups or ranges than using a segment sort. Example: I have a list of IP address ranges per country from http://dev.maxmind.com/geoip/legacy/geolite/ I am trying to group incoming user requests on a website per country for demographic analysis. My current approach is to use a segment tree structure for the IP address ranges and use lookups based on the structure to identify which range a given ip address belongs to. I would like to know if there is a better way of accomplishing this.

  • How can I delete from a GridView when DataSource is a DataTable?

    - by David
My DataSource is a DataTable populated from file system data in Page_Load. There is no database. How can I remove rows from the DataTable and rebind? I thought this had to be done in the GridView_RowCommand "Delete" section... if(e.CommandName == "Delete") ... When I try to access the DataRow's within //get the datatable DataTable dt = this.gridCPCP.DataSource as DataTable; // Delete the record foreach (DataRow dr in dt.Rows) { .... dt is null. How do I reference the DataTable when deleting records?

  • How to use a LinkButton inside gridview to delete selected username in the code-behind file?

    - by jenifer
I have a "UserDetail" table in my "JobPost.mdf". I have a "Gridview1" showing the column from "UserDetail" table, which has a primary key "UserName". This "UserName" is originally saved using Membership class function. Now I add a "Delete" linkbutton to the GridView1. This "Delete" is not autogenerate button,I dragged inside the column itemtemplate from ToolBox. The GridView1's columns now become "Delete_LinkButton"+"UserName"(within the UserDetail table)+"City"(within the UserDetail table)+"IsAdmin"(within the UserDetail table) What I need is that by clicking this "delete_linkButton",it will ONLY delete the entire User Entity on the same row (link by the corresponding "UserName") from the "UserDetail" table,as well as delete all information from the AspNetDB.mdf (User,Membership,UserInRole, etc). I would like to fireup a user confirm, but not mandatory. At least I am trying to make it functional in the correct way. for example: Command UserName City IsAdmin delete ken Los Angles TRUE delete jim Toronto FALSE When I click "delete" on the first row, I need all the record about "ken" inside the "UserDetail" table to be removed. Meanwhile, all the record about "ken" in the AspNetDB.mdf will be gone, including UserinRole table. I am new to asp.net, so I don't know how to pass the commandargument of the "Delete_LinkButton" to the code-behind file LinkButton1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e), because I need one extra parameter "UserName". My partial code is listed below: <asp:TemplateField> <ItemTemplate> <asp:LinkButton ID="Delete_LinkButton" runat="server" onclick="LinkButton1_Click1" CommandArgument='<%# Eval("UserName","{0}") %>'>LinkButton</asp:LinkButton> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> protected void Delete_LinkButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ((LinkButton) GridView1.FindControl("Delete_LinkButton")).Attributes.Add("onclick", "'return confirm('Are you sure you want to delete {0} '" + UserName); Membership.DeleteUser(UserName); JobPostDataContext db = new JobPostDataContext(); var query = from u in db.UserDetails where u.UserName == UserName select u; for (var Item in query) { db.UserDetails.DeleteOnSubmit(Item); } db.SubmitChanges(); } Please do help! Thanks in advance.

  • GridView onTouch

    - by Jeff
    I am trying to set up a GridView of buttons that responds to onTouch. For example, if I swipe my finger across the screen horizontally, vertically or diagonally then I want the buttons which were touched to be selected. I tried setting OnTouchListener's for the buttons, but this didn't work, only the first button in the drag event received the onTouch events. Next I tried creating an OnTouchListener for the GridView and then using the X,Y coords to determine which buttons where touched. This doesn't seem to work either since the MOTION_DOWN events are only passed to the GridView's onTouch() if I start the drag on the very edge of the GridView. In fact if I drag my finger horizontally across the grid, the onTouch events aren't fired at all unless I start the drag at the edge of the GridView. Does anyone know of a better way to do this? Thanks in advance. gridview.setOnTouchListener(new View.OnTouchListener() { @Override public boolean onTouch(@SuppressWarnings("unused") View view, MotionEvent event) { float X = event.getX(); float Y = event.getY(); switch (event.getAction()) { case MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN: System.out.println("Down: " + X + "," + Y); break; case MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE: System.out.println("Move: " + X + "," + Y); break; case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP: System.out.println("Up: " + X + "," + Y); break; } return true; } }

  • I want to prevent ASP.NET GridView from reacting to the enter button

    - by StephaneT
I have an ASP.NET page with a gridview control on it with a CommandButton column with delete and select commands active. Pressing the enter key causes the first command button in the gridview to fire, which deletes a row. I don't want this to happen. Can I change the gridview control in a way that it does not react anymore to pressing the enter key? There is a textbox and button on the screen as well. They don't need to be responsive to hitting enter, but you must be able to fill in the textbox. Currently we popup a confirmation dialog to prevent accidental deletes, but we need something better than this. This is the markup for the gridview, as you can see it's inside an asp.net updatepanel (i forgot to mention that, sorry): (I left out most columns and the formatting) <asp:UpdatePanel ID="upContent" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional"> <Triggers> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnFilter" /> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnEdit" EventName="Click" /> </Triggers> <ContentTemplate> <div id="CodeGrid" class="Grid"> <asp:GridView ID="dgCode" runat="server"> <Columns> <asp:CommandField SelectImageUrl="~/Images/Select.GIF" ShowSelectButton="True" ButtonType="Image" CancelText="" EditText="" InsertText="" NewText="" UpdateText="" DeleteImageUrl="~/Images/Delete.GIF" ShowDeleteButton="True" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Id" HeaderText="ID" Visible="False" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> </div> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel>

  • data source does not support server-side data paging uisng asp.net Csharp

    - by Aamir Hasan
Yesterday some one mail me and ask about data source does not support server side data paging. So i write the the solution here please if you have got this problem read this article and see the example code this will help you a Lot.The only change you have to do is in the DataBind().Here you have used the SqlDataReader to read data retrieved from the database, but SqlDataReader is forward only. You can not traverse back and forth on it.So the solution for this is using DataAdapter and DataSet.So your function may change some what like this private void DataBind(){//for grid viewSqlCommand cmdO;string SQL = "select * from TABLE ";conn.Open();cmdO = new SqlCommand(SQL, conn);SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter(cmdO);DataSet ds = new DataSet();da.Fill(ds);GridView1.Visible = true;GridView1.DataSource = ds;GridView1.DataBind();ds.Dispose();da.Dispose();conn.Close();} This surely works. The reset of your code is fine. Enjoy coding.

  • Delete record in Linq to Sql

    - by Anders Svensson
I have Linq2Sql classes User, Page, and UserPage (from a junction table), i.e. a many-to-many relationship. I'm using a gridview to show all Users, with a dropdownlist in each row to show the Pages visited by each user. Now I want to be able to delete records through the gridview, so I have added a delete button in the gridview by setting "Enable deleting" on it. Then I tried to use the RowDeleting event to specify how to delete the records since it doesn't work by default. And because its a relationship I know I need to delete the related records in the junction table before deleting the user record itself, so I added this in the RowDeleting event: protected void GridView2_RowDeleting(object sender, GridViewDeleteEventArgs e) { int id = (int)((DataKey)GridView2.DataKeys[e.RowIndex]).Value; UserPageDBDataContext context = new UserPageDBDataContext(); var userPages = from userPage in context.UserPages where userPage.User.UserID == id select userPage; foreach (var userPage in userPages) context.UserPages.DeleteOnSubmit(userPage); context.SubmitChanges(); var user = context.Users.Single(u => u.UserID == id); context.Users.DeleteOnSubmit(user); context.SubmitChanges(); } This actually seems to delete records, because the record with the id in question does indeed disappear, but strangely, a new record seems to be added at the end...! So, say I have 3 records in the gridview: 1 Jack stackoverflow.com 2 Betty stackoverflow.com/questions 3 Joe stackoverflow.com/whatever Now, if I try to delete user 1 (Jack), record number 1 will indeed disappear in the gridview, but the same record will appear at the end with a new id: 2 Jack stackoverflow.com 3 Betty stackoverflow.com/questions 4 Joe stackoverflow.com/whatever I have tried searching on how to delete records using Linq, and I believe I'm doing exacly as the examples I have read (e.g. the second example here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Bb386925%28v=VS.100%29.aspx). I have read that you can also set cascade delete on the relationship in the database, but I wanted to do it this way in code, as your supposed to be able to. So what am I doing wrong?
