• SharePoint 2010 and Windows Server Backup

  A couple of months ago, a friend found a bit of information on TechNet that has proven to be quite useful. See, I am of the opinion SharePoint allows for smaller deployments to be made, and with that said, I am talking about SharePoint Foundation 2010 being used for the most part. But truly the point here is not to discuss whether or not a deployment of SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010 is right or not.  The fact is they do take place and happen.  And information will reside there. Now, the point of this post is to raise awareness on options available for companies that have implemented it and maybe are a bit “iffy” on how to protect the information being placed in libraries and lists.  In many cases I have found SharePoint comes first and business continuity becomes an afterthought.  The documentation piece from TechNet states: “You can register SharePoint Server 2010 with Windows Server Backup by using the stsadm.exe -o -registerwsswriter operation to configure the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) writer for SharePoint Server. Windows Server Backup then includes SharePoint Server 2010 in server-wide backups. When you restore from a Windows Server backup, you can select Microsoft SharePoint Foundation (no matter which version of SharePoint 2010 Products is installed), and all components reported by the VSS writer forSharePoint Server 2010 on that server at the time of the backup will be restored. Windows Server Backup is recommended only for use with for single-server deployments.” Even in the event of single-server deployments you will have options to safeguard your data. The process will require that after you have executed the stsadm command above, you will then use Windows Server Backup to do a Full Server Backup.  Then when the restore operation is needed you will be able to select specifically the section that has the SharePoint technologies backup. • Adding new events to be handled by script part without recompilation of c++ source code

  As in title I want to write an Event system with handling methods written in external script language, that is Angelscript. The AS methods would have acess to game's world modifing API ( which has to be regsitered for Angelscript Machine as the game starts) . I have come to this problem : if we use the Angelsript for rapid prototyping of the game's world behavior , we would like to be able to define new Event Types, without recompiling the main binary. Is that ever possible , don't stick to Angelscript, I think about any possible scripting language. The main thought is this : If there's some really new Event possible to be constructed , we must monitor some information coming from the binary, for example some variable value changing and the Events are just triggered on some conditions on those changes , wer might be monitoring the Creatures HP, by having a function call on each change, there we could define new Events such as Creature hurt, creature killed, creature healed , creature killed and tormented to pieces ( like geting HP very much below 0 ) . Are there any other ideas of constructing new Events at the scripting side ?

• Find files containing a string on the whole filesystem

  I need to find all the instances of a given string in the whole filesystem, because I don't remember in which configuration files, script or any other programs I put it and I need to update that string with a new one. I tried with the following command `grep -nr 'needle' / --exclude-dir=.svn | mail [email protected] -s 'References on xxx' If I run this command on a small directory it gives me the output I need in the form /path1/:nn:line containing needle /path2/:nn:line containing needle where /path1 is the full path of the file, nn is the row containing the needle and last field is the content of the line. However when I run the command on the root directory the grep process hang after a while. I run this script about 8 hours ago and even on a small filesystem (less than 5GB) it doesn't end and if I run top or ps the process seems sleeping root 24909 0.0 0.1 3772 1520 pts/1 S+ Feb10 0:15 grep -nr needle / --exclude-dir=.svn Why it doesn't end? Is there any better way to do this (it's a one time job, I don't need to execute this more than once) Thanks.

• In windows xp, how can I set the default browser from chrome to IE via Command Line, without admin privs

  Situation: 1. Need to Set the defualt browser to IE via cmd(problem) 2. Need to do a citrix login via IE(amounts to loading a url) beause it wont run in google chrome 3. then set default browser to chrome Environment: Windows XP, no admin priv's no admin priv's mean I can't touch registry Basic Steps I'm Doing: In a bat file: 1.Set default browser to IE 2.run a citrix SSO login via IE (not compatible with chrome) 3.Set default browser to Chrome 4.kill IE 5.live long and prosper So i have it all running except "Set default browser to IE" I can set the default browser to chome by using portable chrome's cmd line argument --make-default-browser but I can't undo that process. If I launch IE, it pops up that 'make ie default browser' window which stops the SSO process. So If I can disable that check via bat file, that would also work for me. • Updating physics for animated models

  For a new game we have do set up a scene with a minimum of 30 bone animated models.(shooter) The problem is that the update process for the animated models takes too long. Thats what I do: Each character has ~30 bones and for every update tick the animation gets calculated and every bone fires a event with the new matrix. The physics receives the event with the new matrix and updates the collision shape for that bone. The time that it takes to build the animation isn't that bad (0.2ms for 30 Bones - 6ms for 30 models). But the main problem is that the physic engine (Bullet) uses a diffrent matrix for transformation and so its necessary to convert it.   ASP.NET session state lets you associate a server-side string or object dictionary containing state data with a particular HTTP client session. A session is defined as a series of requests issued by the same client within a certain period of time, and is managed by associating a session ID with each unique client. The ID is supplied by the client on each request, either in a cookie or as a special fragment of the request URL. The session data is stored on the server side in one of the supported session state stores, which include in-process memory, SQL Server™ database, and the ASP.NET State Server service. The latter two modes enable session state to be shared among multiple Web servers on a Web farm and do not require server affinity. • Inspiration

  Once again, I find myself back in Seoul – ASEM Tower, 16th Floor in a mobile room. I’m busy preparing for the interview process that is about to take place for Oracle Korea’s GIP 7th (Graduate Intake Program): scheduling the first round interviews, organizing interview guidelines, educating interviewers on the process and framework and  getting all the logistics ready for the 1st round interview. Seoul or Korea rather is a fascinating place. Highly efficient, the utmost respect for seniors and results orientated. When students come in for an interview at first it was hard to tell them apart – there seems to be accepted interview attire that must be worn when attending an interview. Males and Females, all dress in black suits, with white shirts underneath – with males to wear simple and dark colored ties. During the interview, they would all sit very upright, all would bow when entering the room, place their hands on the laps and very often they would hold minimal eye contact. They would project their voice loud to portray confidence, they would talk in the Korean formal dialect at all times and will treat every question, every moment with extreme clarity and the utmost professionalism. When the interview concludes, they will all stand hands by their sides, bow 90 degrees and thank all the interviewers for their precious time and opportunity. As soon as they leave the interview room, I could hear all their sighs of relief and commended each other on their efforts. More and more I learn about the Korean culture it inspires me. Their patriotism, their respect for each, their values, their appreciation, their motivation, their desires and passion – it truly was an experience for me (even as a recruiter) and can’t help but feel truly impressed and motivated to live for every moment. • TIME column in TOP command for mysql

  When I run top on my database server I get that mysqld has been running for 4:00.51 and it continues to go up. I assume this means that one process with mysql has been running this long from other posts on here. Its not set to cumulative mode as best I can tell as the heading looks like it would change to CTIME if that be the case. What I'm wondering is if this is normal for a site that makes a lot of individual connections using PHP. I shouldn't have any long running processes that would hold on to a mysql connection for this long, only seconds at most. Am I incorrect to assume that this time relates to one connection/process running? I think usually I see it flash up and away on the TOP, not just stay there with this number increasing.

• Design pattern for client/server sessions?

  Are there any common patterns or general guidance I can learn from for how to design a client/server system where the both the client and server must maintain some kind per-client session state? I've found any number of libraries that can help with some of the plumbing, but it's the overall design I'm wondering about. Open issues in my mind: How to structure the client/server communication so that bidirectional synchronous and asynchronous requests are possible? The server side needs to spawn a couple of per-connected-client session-long helper process. How to manage that? How to manage the mapping from a given client (and any of it's requests) to server state and helper process instances in the face of multiple clients and intermittent network connectivity. Most communication can be simple blocking request/reply, but some will be long running processing tasks that the client will want to keep tabs on. To the extent that it matters, the platform is Linux/C/C++. Not web based. Just an existing thick-client software app being modified to talk to backend servers for some tasks.

• AutoSSH for a robust tunnel

  I'm trying to start an ssh tunnel from A to B and have it run despite things like: period network/wifi drops on A and remote server reboot on B. My ssh tunnel starts using upstart script on A with event start on (net-device-up IFACE=eth0) I've found autossh which is supposed to handle these kinds of things, but had some trouble getting it to work. The upstart executes: autossh -M 0 -2qTN -o "ServerAliveInterval 30" -o "ServerAliveCountMax 2" -L 5678:somehost:5678 user@B However when I log into B and kill -9 that tunnel session, autossh just exits with "Connection to B closed by remote host." That's not what I expected autossh to do. Any advice on how to set this up? Any GUI service monitoring utilities out there that essentially display a green light if a service is up? Thanks.

  I am recently working on a project aiming at evaluating whether an android app crashes or not. The evaluation process is 1.Collect the logs(which record the execution process of an app). 2.Generate formulas to predict the result (formulas is generated by GP) 3.Evaluate the logs by formulas Now I can produce formulas, but for convenience for users, I want to translate formulas into form of natural language and tell users why crash happened.(I think it looks like "inverse natural language processing".) To explain the idea more clearly, imagine you got a formula like this: 155 - count(onKeyDown) >= 148 It's obvious that if count(onKeyDown) 7, the result of "155 - count(onKeyDown) = 148" is false, so the log contains more than 7 onKeyDown event would be predicted "Failed". I want to show users that if onKeyDown event appears more than 7 times(155-148=7), this app will crash. • Google is not indexing my entire site despite having a sitemap

  I have an e-commerce website www.beyondtime.in. I have been constantly monitoring Googlebot crawling on my website and my webmaster account. Lately, I have found two issues that I have not been able to understand. 1.) The Google Bots have been only crawling www.beyondtime.in/telecom.php when the URL is not even valid. What needs to be done to let Google crawl other pages of the website as well? 2.) The second question is about the Google Webmaster account, where I've submitted my sitemap with 227 URLs. Out of that, only 156 have been indexed. None of the images of my website have been indexed by Google.

• Copy all bridge traffic to a specific interface

  I have a bridge/switch set up an a machine that has multiple ports. Occasionally, I have a vm running through virtualbox, and I'll have it use a virtual adapter and then I add the adapter to the bridge. I have heard that some switches can copy all the traffic they see to a specific port on the bridge, usually for network monitoring. I would like to be able to run some windows based network tools. I do not want to run Windows on the actual hardware, because it would be lots of work to duplicate my setup in windows, so I was thinking if I can copy all traffic to a port, I can send it to a VM with windows. How can I set this up? I think this might be ebtables area, but I don't know ebtables well enough to know for sure, and it always seems like (from my understanding of ebtables) ebtables does something with the traffic (drop, accept, etc), but never copies it.

• How can I validate if a 13.10 update was complete?

  I attempted to upgrade Ubuntu 13.04 server to 13.10 tonight via the standard linux text console and it had some trouble. Machine boots and displays 13.10, but I am unsure exactly what or how much was successfully upgraded. Is there some command I can run which will validate that all system has all standard binaries upgraded to the 13.10 release? As for the issue .... everything seemed to be going along ok until the screen displayed some kind of menu option regarding local edits to samba config file. There was a prompt requesting root password or ctrl-d to continue, but it would not take any input. From another terminal screen I tried killing the process displaying this samba message, and then some screen/SCREEN processes. The hard drive activity picked up for a while and then all the processes on that pty were gone. As I said, reboot was OK, but I have no idea if everything was upgraded. The machine seems to be acting like normal, except that the upgrade killed my openpvn process which I'll need to reload. Thanks
