    I wonder how to check if two DVDs are exactly the same? I have two DVDs and if I open the DVDs and copy the content to the HDD and compare the respective files on the HDD it shows no difference. As I know DVD does also have some additional content (this content includes information saying if the DVD is bootable and some formating information I guess). How can I check also this additional content? Is it somehow possible without additional programs using Windows or Ubuntu?

  • Unable to share a folder between Windows 7 and Ubuntu (running in VMWare)

    I have installed vmware toolbox in ubuntu (guest OS). I tried to share a location from the settings of the virtual machine. But when I click Ok, the following error in thrown in the host (Win 7) OS. "Unable to update run-time folder sharing status: Unknown error." The location is not showing up in /mnt/ What could be the reason? P.S I have vmhgfs process running in my Ubuntu VM. I was following this method.

  • Encrypt windows 8 file history

    File history is great but it saves your files on the external drive without any encryption and stores them using the exact same folder structure as the originals. If a bad guy gets his hands on the hard drive it could basically not be easier to get to your important files. Is there any way to encrypt the file history backup without breaking its functionality and without having to encrypt the original content itself? Thanks for your input!

  • Can't do SSH public key under cryptographed home [migrated]

    Sorry if I post this in the wrong place. I've readed this topic, but I not able to comment on someones answer, so I started a new topic. I can't do ssh public key login to my server and I think this issue is related to the fact my home is using cryptography which set the permissions to 700 on /home/MY-USER I've tried another workstation and everything works fine. I would be glad if someone help me to get out this without revert the cryptography.

  • WIndows 7: would like recursively check a directory for changes to files and folders since my last visit

    I have found varieties of this question. Most of them fall under monitoring and others are said to be buggy. A continuously monitoring program won't help me and neither will a list of the most recently modified files. I would like to check if the directory, its sub folders and files have changed since my last visit. It seems to me that I'd likely need a program that maintains and index of that directory and compares it with its condition when I tell it to. Then that program could output to a log for my use. This is on Windows 7 over a shared network, the folder(s) I'd like to check have 4-50GB of data. I did find this, however I am still learning how to program.     How do I list all files under a directory recursively and sort the output by modification time? I normally use ls -lhtc but it doesn't find all files recursively. I am using Linux and Mac. ls -l on Mac OS X can give -rw-r--r-- 1 fsr user 1928 Mar 1 2011 foo.c -rwx------ 1 fsr user 3509 Feb 25 14:34 bar.c where the date part isn't consistent or aligned, so a solution have to take this into account. Partial solution stat -f "%m%t%Sm %N" ./* | sort -rn | head -3 | cut -f2- works, but not recursively.

    My broadband speed is sometimes lacking, and therefore it can be difficult to view Flash streams of programmes. So my idea is to start a Flash stream, let it run to completion no matter how long it takes, and then view the temporary .swf file. I've discovered the location of my Google Chrome temporary files. However, there is no file type associated with these files. Therefore, I'm wondering if the idea above will work, and how can I retrieve only .swf files?

    I have a the folder c:\test\ and two files in it a.txt and b.txtv. I would like to process just the files with extension equal to .txt. If I write this commands cd c:\test for %f in (*.txt) do echo %f I will get the result where both a.txt and b.txtv are listed. The same happens with cd c:\test dir *.txt It seems .txt is the same of .txtv. I have Windows XP SP3 in Italian and the result of ver is Microsoft Windows XP [Versione 5.1.2600]. The same result is from Windows 7 in English Microsoft Windows XP [Version 6.1.7601].

Forgive my Elementary understanding of server clustering but supposing: 2 Sites (NJ, CA) Identical Servers at each site setup as a Remote Site Cluster nodes with Windows Enterprise server 2008 r2 Services: File, Terminal, AD, and maybe DNS Will the following will be true: Files (including data drives) will be synced between the two servers eliminating the need for third party backup/mirroring software to sync/backup files. Also supposing i use roaming profiles w/ folder redirection; How will client computer in the WAN access their data through the cluster (i.e. will they automatically choose the best route)

    Hoping someone can help me as I have, thus far, been unable to solve the issue. I am running a media center utilizing Ubuntu 12.04. I was initially successful accessing media files from the desktop running Ubuntu via my Windows 7 laptop and Roku device. I started backing up a new batch of DVD's I had (into MKV files, like everything else in my media folders) and noticed I cannot access the new files from either the Roku or the laptop. I have not changed any settings in the media folder and verified the shared permissions. The parent folder (Media) is shared (with permission flow-down) while the subfolders (Movies, TV Shows, Music) are not. I have changed the permissions on this to include shared when the access problem arose but with no success. I can only access the original files uploaded an not new files added. Any suggestions???   • repair window-xp - access denied for "document and settings" through command line

    hi, i'm trying to repair my windows xp and it fails to reboot (bad sector or something). i'm using my dell recovery disk and then select the "Repair" option which takes me to the command line application when i can browse my files and folders (like with cmd.exe). however, when i'm trying to access the "Documents and settings" folder, it gives me access denied. is there any way to override it? is there any other way to access my documents and settings through other method? I'm just trying to recover some files and copy them to another drive on my computer and then reinstall my winxp. Thanks for the help

  • Corrupted Laptop - Transfer Data Without My Computer (explorer.exe) Using Command Line

    I have a laptop (Toshiba Satellite) that is pretty messed up. The person this belongs too already replaced it with a new machine. My job is to transfer all her data from this machine to disk so that I can transfer it to her. She doesn't want to lose any data (understandably so). Any operation I attempted (i.e., double clicking on any folder icon, like My Documents, My Computer, etc) resulted din a complete crash. The only good news is that I can actually start and navigate around using the command line. Also, I can access the internet. I have a network, so if I can map the drives I can get this thing figured out (hopefully). Also, I tried a USB drive but I couldn't figure out how to access it from the command line. Two questions (I need to use the command line for these): How would I go about accessing the USB drive and how can I map the shared drives on my network so that I may cd to that directory for use of the copy command?
