• -[UIImage drawInRect:] / CGContextDrawImage() not releasing memory?

  I wanted to easily blend a UIImage on top of another background image, so wrote a category method for UIImage, adapted from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1309757/blend-two-uiimages : - (UIImage *) blendedImageOn:(UIImage *) backgroundImage { NSAutoreleasePool* pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(backgroundImage.size); CGRect rect = CGRectMake(0, 0, backgroundImage.size.width, backgroundImage.size.height); [backgroundImage drawInRect:rect]; [self drawInRect:rect]; UIImage* blendedImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); [pool release]; return blendedImage; } Unfortunately my app that uses the above method to load around 20 images and blend them with background and gloss images (so probably around 40 calls), is being jettisoned on the device. An Instruments session revealed that calls to malloc stemming from the calls to drawInRect: are responsible for the bulk of the memory usage. I tried replacing the drawInRect: messages with equivalent function calls to the function CGContextDrawImage but it didn't help. The AutoReleasePool was added after I found the memory usage problem; it also didn't make a difference. I'm thinking this is probably because I'm not using graphics contexts appropriately. Would calling the above method in a loop be a bad idea because of the number of contexts I create? Or did I simply miss something?

error at build time, and a day of google searching has turned up other instances of this error caused by different triggers, and solutions for those propblems didn't work for me. I also found a single report on the Oracle forums that seemed to be a carbon copy of this issue, but there were no replies. The application is written in Weblogic Workshop 10, runs on Weblogic Server 10.3, and uses Beehive / NetUI. Not sure if that would make a difference or not though. The build scripts were automatically generated by Weblogic Workshop, with some tweaks and fixes made to other aspects of the files by myself to fix other compatability issues. I am using Java 1.6.0_23 from Sun, and Ant 1.8.1 Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Python Tkinter Tix: How to use ScrolledWindow with grid in Tix NoteBook

  Hi guys, I'm adding several widgets to a Frame which is located in a tix.NoteBook. When there are too much widgets to fit in the window, I want to use a scrollbar, so I put tix.ScrolledWindow inside that Frame and add my widgets to this ScrolledWindow instead. • Correctly calling setGridWidth on a jqGrid inside a jQueryUI Dialog

  I have a jQueryUI dialog (#locDialog) which has a jqGrid ($grid) inside it. When the Dialog opens (initially, but it gets called whenever it opens), I want the $grid to resize to the size of the $locDialog. When I do this initially, I get scrollbars inside the grid (not inside the dialog). If I debug the code, I see the width of the $grid is 677. So, I call setGridWidth() again and check the width and now I have 659, which is 18px less, which is the size of the scroll area for the jqGrid (Dun-dun-dun..) When I rezie the dialog, I resize the grid as well, and everything is happy - no scrollbars, except where necessary. Really, it isn't the end of the world if I initially have unnecessary scrollbars at first, but it is just odd that when I call setGridWidth initially, it doesn't take into account the scroll area of 18px. As far as the magical number 54, that is the number I had to subtract from the height of the dialog value to get the grid to render without unnecessary scrollbars.

• Assert.AreEqual() Exception in VS2010

  I am fairly new to unit testing and am using VS2010 to develop in and run my tests. I have a simple test, illustrated below, that simply compares 2 System.Data.DataTableReader objects. I know that they are equal as they are both created using the same object types, the same input file and I have verified that the objects "look" the same. I realize I may be dealing with a couple of issues, one being whether or not this is the proper use of Assert.AreEqual or even the proper way to test this scenario, and the other being the main issue I am dealing with which is why this test fails with this exception: Failed 00:00:00.1000660 0 Assert.AreEqual failed. Expected:<System.Data.DataTableReader>. Actual:<System.Data.DataTableReader>.   I chose to use Stacks and Tables before knowing Collections has immutable empty things only for Set, Map and List. Because the size of table does not change after its init: Integer[] table = new Intger[0] I can use the zero-witdh table as an empty table. • iPhone UIScrollview with UIButtons - how to recreate springboard?

  I'm trying to create a springboard-like interface within my app. I'm trying to use UIButtons added to a UIScrollView. The problem I'm running in to is with the buttons not passing any touches to the UIScrollView - if I try to flick/slide and happen to press on the button it doesn't register for the UIScrollView, but if I flick the space between buttons it will work. The buttons do click/work if I touch them. Is there a property or setting that forces the button to send the touch events up to its parent (superview)? Do the buttons need to be added to something else before being added the UIScrollView?   I'm using NSFetchedResultsController with a predicate to load a list of Documents in my application. I want to load all the Documents except the currently active one. I am using Rentzsch's MOGenerator to create a _Document class and then I put all my custom code in the Document subclass. _Document generates an objectID property with type DocumentID. • Ivar definitions show 'long' type encoding as 'long long' type encoding

  I've found what I think may be a bug with Ivar and Objective-C runtime. I'm using XCode 3.2.1 and associated libraries, developing a 64 bit app on X86_64 (MacBook Pro). Where I would expect the type encoding for the following "longVal" to be 'l', the Ivar encoding is showing a 'q' (which is a 'long long'). Anyone else seeing this? • Oracle & Active Directory : A love/hate relationship

  Hi SO'ers, I'm currently trying to access Active Directory via the dbms_ldap API in Pl/Sql (Oracle). The trouble is that I'm not able to connect with my own username and password or anynoymously. However, in C# I can connect anonymously with this code : DirectoryEntry ldap = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://Hostname"); DirectorySearcher searcher = new DirectorySearcher(ldap); searcher.Filter = "(SAMAccountName=username)"; SearchResult result = searcher.FindOne(); If I try to connect anonymously in Oracle, I only get the error(ORA-31202 : LDAP client/server error) when I try to search (and the result code for the bind is SUCCESS)... my_session := dbms_ldap.init('HOST','389'); retval := dbms_ldap.simple_bind_s(my_session, '', ''); retval := dbms_ldap.search_s(my_session, ldap_base, dbms_ldap.scope_subtree, 'objectclass=*', my_attrs, 0, my_message); Why is the anonymous connection is C# works but doesn't work in Pl/Sql?
