• Does the .ending on a domain need to be relevant? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Does Google penalize .me or .tv sites? I see a lot of people now opting to use myname.im or myname.me But after doing some checking, i found that .im domain names are meant to be Isle of Man endings. Is this correct, and does it matter that people opt to use this domain ending if they are not even based anywhere near the Isle of Man. It is Ok to use a domain ending purely for how good it sounds is what I'm really after. Or is it bad practice to do this.

• How to compare page views/visitors to site totals in Google Analytics?

  I want to measure the effects in total traffic (views or visitors) of a single URL across a time frame. For example, let's say I published a blog post on July 2012. I want to measure what chunk of the site's total traffic is coming to this particular post on a month-by-month graph from July 2012 to date. Is there a way to do this? Edit: I should clarify that what I'd like to do is to generate a month-to-month graph, similar to the one you can see comparing a metric on a period of time against the previous equivalent period (year vs last year, for example) but comparing a particular URL traffic to the site's total traffic. In other words, I can get to the part where I can see the URL's traffic for the timeframe I selected and it shows how much of the total traffic corresponds to the current URL: But I'd like to add a second line to the graph, representing the site's total pageviews, similiar to this (but this one is showing just a different metric for the same URL): Thanks!

  The number of URLs on my website is constantly growing (by 10-50 per week or so). Should I Regularly submit an updated sitemap including all URLs. Have a sitemap of only the static content of my website. Have some tool which automatically creates sitemaps on any changes. As for 3) is googlesitemapgenerator useful in this respect? I am a bit anxious allowing a beta product mess with my apache. Is anybody using it or has another recommendation of similar tools?

  I am trying to create a form for my companies intraNet site. The idea is as follows: An employee wants to make a purchase, so they will go to the appropriate page in the intraNet They will fill out the form on the intraNet page They click the email button The data in the form is saved in a database, and an email is sent to me stating that there is purchase order request form filled out I am not exactly sure how to go about this. Part of me wants to create it in a Data Access Page but I am not sure that's correct. If there is no one here who can help, is there anyone who can direct me to someone/something that can help me?

• WHY Google does not ban these sites using this SEO pattern? [on hold]

  I have seen some sites using a different kind of SEO to promote copyrighted materials such as movies. They also have submitted their site to Google webmaster tools but still now did not get banned. Their Alexa ranks are 7000 or less. On the other hand I have run 5 movie affiliate sites and all of them got banned by Google within a short period of time. I have copied the url of the homepage of solarmovie.me and pasted it on the google search and instead of the homepage url I have seen that their category or tag shows as the homepage (www.solarmovie.me/watch-category/hollyw... Now is solarmovie.me publishing its posts as a single page or something else? I tried to find out what kind of SEO or coding that was, but I couldn't since I have very little knowledge about coding. Also I have seen the same thing with ALLUC.TO in google search (www.alluc.to/popular-links.html). Could anyone please help with the SEO of this kind so that I don't get banned by google frequently or index removed. All SEO webmaster i need your help!!!!   The title attribute is an HTML standard element available across most tags. e.g. <li><a title="Widgets listed by household function" href="/widgets/by-function.html">by Function</a></li> I've used this attribute on some sites for usability; many browsers pop up a "tooltip" over the link with the more detailed description of what is on the other side. I've been wondering if doing so is having a negative effect on my rankings (hidden text?) or if it has any effect at all on onsite or offsite keyword relevance calculations. Does anyone know of any research done on this?

• jquery selector for elements beside one another? [migrated]

  this SHOULD be simple, but I have been through the Jquery Selector help for about an hour now and nothing seems to be working. Help! I am basically trying to pull the text (an address) of a SPAN after a user clicks on the link next to it. Please note though, I will have about 10 on a page, so I cannot set a static address. It must be pulled when the user clicks. The html code: <a href="3" class="clicky">Click to Show Map</a> <span style="display: none" class="theaddy">123 Fake Street, Somewhere Else, 12341</span> So really, my question is, how do I grab the text from .theaddy when a user clicks on .clicky? As I said, I cannot use var propertyaddy = $(.theaddy).text(); because there are 10 of these addy's on the same page. I need some sort of "THIS" Next To kinda thing. I also tossed around the idea of placing the SPAN inside the A, but my efforts on that weren't working either. Thank you in advance for any help!

• FTP client says directory permissions are 0000

  I encountered a problem that appears to be related to permissions (same as this one). When I looked at the permissions of various directories in FireFTP, they all were 0000, which is obviously nonsense, since all the other pages are served without any problems. I only have ftp access, and I think it’s a Windows server (The header says "Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5"). I’ve tried a different ftp client, with the same result. Changing the permissions results in a "'SITE CHMOD 764 [directory]': command not understood" error. A search on Google and SO for "permissions windows 0000" and similar queries didn’t turn up anything. How can I view and change the actual permissions?

  Since 2009, Google counts nofollow links also as outgoing links. What are some alternatives to stop Google counting outside links from my page? If I make links appear on my page source like this: <span hrefs="http://link" rel="nofollow" link="true">Link Name</span> and then in JavaScript replace span with a tag and replace hrefs with href for every span tag that has link="true". Will this help?

  A friend of mine asked me for a easy website for him. As it was just 3 subpages, no database need or anything, I've done it quite fast with plain PHP, HTML, JS and CSS. But then another and another friend showed up. They only wanted arrange differently they navigation, some different picutures etc. So I though, is there any kind of CMS, that allows build small business website (barbershop, local groceries shop), with small list of subpages, yet allowing us to arrange look'n'feel. There's no need for the databas as content won't change, or can be stored in simple textfiles for example. Things like WordPress might be simple overkill Does anyone know such cms?

  I've been having a bit of an issue today. I run Gematsu.com. At first I thought the site has been going slow all day due to the amount of hits we've been getting the past couple days. But then I realized we'd received even less today, so something wasn't adding up. I ran a check on a website testing site.Turns out I have a bunch of redirects from URLs that I've never heard of. I don't know if they're what's slowing the site down, but I can tell you the site wasn't taking a minute to load yesterday. I tried removing my advertising to see if it was anything on their end, but I still got largely the same results.

• Can using div with width = 0px affect SEO? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Does google always downrank pages with hidden texts Right now I'm working on my new website and I'm really concerned about SEO since the old version of my site(which is from a script that is unusable now) has PR of 4 and I want to lose it So here is my question There is a panel that has 4 tabs Each tabs has tag which has a href like "/box-page/tab/2" and when javascript is not activated it will go this page and shows the corresponding tab and if it's activated it will just make a simple animation to show the other tab There are four boxes(and for tabs) and since I needed to fix the height of the panel I had to use width: 0 for the rest of tabs to keep the height of the box the same as the longest one and inside these boxes(which have width: 0) there are some information that can be indexed by google So as you know google doesn't have javascript and it will go to /box-page/tab/2 and /box-page/tab/3 and ... in all of these pages the information is the same but with different box showing up in the page So here is my question Does google penalize using a div with width: 0px? And if not does it just ignore the content of the div with width 0?(Which is perfect for me ^^) Thanks

The login button could be redirected to some malicious copy of our app. The product website is maintained by people outside the dev team. Those people are not too knowledgable concerning security. We (dev-team) could mantain the website ourselves but that would be a large burden on our small team. How is this usually handled?

I'll confess I'm a little green when it comes to web programming and websites in general (though not programming). I'm a Math and Physics person. I want to make a personal webpage containing a Math and Physics blog. Ideally the blog should support latex, and embedded programs. This would allow me to write, say, an equation for an orbit and then show what the orbit would look like (perhaps letting the reader configure parameters). The programming language can be javascript (though it isn't my favorite language). My budget is around 5 dollars a month. Does anybody have suggestions for a good Shared host with these kind of requirements? And a small aside, It would be useful if I can move the website content, since I might live at a university in the nearish future. They would have servers which could support such a webpage.

• I want to combine the databases from two different sites under one URL. How is this possible?

I know that one solution would be to make the smaller one a subdomain of the bigger one, but I would like the following thing to happen: when I click on a category or a tag, posts from both sites/databases would appear.   By default WordPress restricts the file types that can be uploaded to /uploads using the default Media Manager. I know it is possible to manually extend the allowed file types. I also know it is possible to change functions.php to allow ALL file types to be uploaded. This restriction obviously exists for security concerns - e.g. someone could upload a harmful .exe Would it not be possible to allow secure upload of all filetypes by setting the permissions of the /uploads directory to prevent execution of any of its contents? Thus it wouldn't matter if someone uploaded a harmful file because it would not be executable on the server...

  If I am targeting the same audience, but the new sub-site has different concept from the existing site, should I create a new sub-domain or create a new domain? What are the seo advantages and disadvantages of creating a new sub-domain? For example Stack Exchange with Alexa rank 1.474 right now, has sub-domains such as programmers.stackexchange.com and other domains such us serverfault.com with rank 3.515 and stackoverflow.com with rank 109. So why didn't Stack Exchange put, for example, Stack Overflow in a sub-domain to create a better ranking?
