• Installing MonoTouch - ibtool not found error

  I've had Xcode (3.2.1 - SnowLeopard, iphone 3.1.3) installed for a while, and I can run and build apps on it fine. I installed MonoTouch, as I want to leverage the 8+ years of .NET skills I have :) So I installed: Mono: MonoFramework-2.6.1_1.macos10.novell.x86 MonoTouch: monotouch-eval-1.5.0 MonoDevelop: MonoDevelop-2.2.1-r152508 (was 2.2.1, but when I started it up, it said there was an update, which I installed - thats the update version) If I make a new project and build it, I get any of the following errors: Build failed. Object reference not set to the instance of an object. Build failed: ibtool not found (btw, it's in /Developer/usr/bin/ibtool) or a similar one to the second one if I use the older (2.2.1 released) version of MonoTouch. I can't find any debug info anywhere. I could reinstall XCode/iPhone SDK, but as it already is installed and works (and no, this isn't a SL upgrade), it doesn't make sense. Anyone got any ideas? I SO want to use MonoTouch - Obj-C drives me up the wall! Console apps (mono ones) work fine. Mac OS X 10.6.2, Macbook Pro, clean install with old settings moved over.

• Bugs in Excel's ActiveX combo boxes?

  I have noticed that I get all sorts of annoying errors when: I have ActiveX comboboxes on a worksheet (not an excel form) The comboboxes have event code linked to them (eg, onchange events) I use their listfillrange or linkedcell properties (clearing these properties seems to alleviate a lot of problems) (Not sure if this is connected) but there is data validation on the targeted linkedcell. I program a fairly complex excel application that does a ton of event handling and uses a lot of controls. Over the months, I have been trying to deal with a variety of bugs dealing with those combo boxes. I can't recall all the details of each instance now, but these bugs tend to involve pointing the listfillrange and linkedcell properties at named ranges, and often have to do with the combo box events triggering at inappropriate times (such as when application.enableevents = false). These problems seemed to grow bigger in Excel 2007, so that I had to give up on these combo boxes entirely (I now use combo boxes contained in user forms, rather than directly on the sheets). Has anyone else seen similar problems? If so, was there a graceful solution? I have looked around with Google and so far haven't spotted anyone with similar issues. Some of the symptoms I end up seeing are: Excel crashing when I start up (involves combobox_onchange, listfillrange-named range on another different sheet, and workbook_open interactions). (note, I also had some data validation on the the linked cells in case a user edited them directly.) Excel rendering bugs (usually when the combo box changes, some cells from another sheet get randomly drawn over the top of the current sheet) Sometimes it involves the screen flashing entirely to another sheet for a moment. Excel losing its mind (or rather, the call stack) (related to the first bullet point). Sometimes when a function modifies a property of the comboboxes, the combobox onchange event fires, but it never returns control to the function that caused the change in the first place. The combobox_onchange events are triggered even when application.enableevents = false. Events firing when they shouldn't (I posted another question on stack overflow related to this). At this point, I am fairly convinced that ActiveX comboboxes are evil incarnate and not worth the trouble. I have switched to including these comboboxes inside a userform module instead. I would rather inconvenience users with popup forms than random visual artifacts and crashing (with data loss).

  Hi,for a project I'm working on, I've defined a custom maven packaging, and the associated lifecycle (through the definition of a components.xml and the definition of a LifecycleMapping). Obviously, this packaging corresponds to a specific development, for which a plugin has been created in Eclipse. What I would like to do is configure Eclipse according to my pom.xml content. I've obviously looked at Customizable build lifecycle, but I'm more than confused by provided information. From what I understand, I must define in my target project a build plugin, in which i'll add configuration elements specific to my project. • How do I stop Python install on Mac OS X from putting things in my home directory?

(OS X 10.6.2, Python-2.6.5.tar.bz2) I've done this before and it was easy, but for some reason, this time after ./configure, and make, the sudo make install puts things some things in my home directory instead of in /usr/local/... where I expect. The .py files are okay, but not the .so files... • How to improve Java perfomance on Informix for Windows

  I have problem with performance of Java UDR functions on Informix on Windows. On this server I already have some functions in C and SPL. I chose one function to write it in those 3 languages and I measured performance of this function on test table. Function calculates some kind of checksum so it not use any db libraries etc. only string and math operations. I observed performance on 30k records with SQL like: select function(txt) from _tmp_perf_test and I changed function to 'function_c, function_spl or function_java. My performance tests showed that C function is the fastest, SPL function is about 5 times slower, where Java is 100 (one hundred!) times slower than C. I checked it few times and 1:100 ratio didn't improve. I changed Java function to simply return length of the string but even this do not help so it looks, that there is general problem with Java function invocation, because there was no difference in time between Java function that calculate checksum and Java function that returns length of the string. I increased JVM_MAX_HEAP_SIZE to 128 and it not helped too. I use IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.TC6DE. The same test on Linux server: IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.FC6 show more "normal" results, i.e. Java is slower from C and SPL but only 2 to 5 times. What can I do to improve Java performance on Informix server on Windows?   Hi there, I need to listen for user log in and log out events in Liferay. From what little I've been able to find, it seems that using Liferay hooks would be the way to accomplish this. • Timezone problems?

  My calendar works properly on servers in PST but on the production server (EST) all events seem to end one day early. I am not sure if it is a timezone problem because even with the 3 hour difference the events should be display on the proper date. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

• How to stop event bubbling with jquery live?

  Hi I am trying to stop some events but stopPropagation does not work with "live" so I am not sure what to do. I found this on their site. Live events do not bubble in the traditional manner and cannot be stopped using stopPropagation or stopImmediatePropagation. For example, take the case of two click events - one bound to "li" and another "li a". Should a click occur on the inner anchor BOTH events will be triggered. This is because when a $("li").bind("click", fn); is bound you're actually saying "Whenever a click event occurs on an LI element - or inside an LI element - trigger this click event." To stop further processing for a live event, fn must return false It says that fn must return false so what I tried to do $('.MoreAppointments').live('click', function(e) { alert("Hi"); return false; }); but that did not work so I am not sure how to make it return false. Update Here is some more information. I have a table cell and I bind a click event to it. $('#CalendarBody .DateBox').click(function(e) { AddApointment(this); }); So the AddApointment just makes some ui dialog box. Now the live code(MoreAppointments) sits in this table cell and is basically an anchor tag. So when I click on the anchor tag it first goes to the above code(addApointment - so runs that event first) runs that but does not launch my dialog box instead it goes straight to the (MoreAppointment) event and runs that code. Once that code has run it launches the dialog box from "addApointment". Update 2 Here is some of the html. I did not copy the whole table since it is kinda big and all the cells repeat itself with the same data. • Can xjc -version be trusted?

  I've spent the day debugging an issue with JAXB getting namespaces wrong or missing (possibly related to Marshaller.JAXB_FRAGMENT, but that's not the point here). I found the problem occurs with JAXB RI 2.1.10 in my endorsed dir. It is fixed if I use JAXB RI 2.2.4 or 2.2.6 Here is what is really confusing (and what made it take so long). The problem occurs on Linux with: $ java -version java version "1.7.0_03" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.1.1pre) (7~u3-2.1.1~pre1-1ubuntu2) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 22.0-b10, mixed mode) $ xjc -version xjc 2.2.4 but it should work fine, if this java really uses JAXB RI 2.2.4 !! Similarly, I can't reproduce the issue on Windows with Java 1.6.0_27, which reports: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_27\bin>java -version java version "1.6.0_27" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_27-b07) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.2-b06, mixed mode) C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_27\bin>xjc -version xjc version "JAXB 2.1.10 in JDK 6" JavaTM Architecture for XML Binding(JAXB) Reference Implementation, (build JAXB 2.1.10 in JDK 6) and yet if I put 2.1.10 RI in my endorsed dir, the problem occurs. It should occur with 1.6.0_27, if that really uses JAXB RI 2.1.10. It seems to me that the problem I'm experiencing has been fixed in the reference implementation somewhere after 2.1.10 and before 2.2.4, but that neither of the 2 VM's above actually use the JAXB version they claim to. Or possibly they use the xjc they claim, but not what is in jaxb-api.jar and jaxb-impl.jar (I know there is a difference in the namespace prefix mapper property, but that won't be causing this problem). I've done these experiments on Win 7 and Ubuntu, in tomcat (no eclipse), and in eclipse (no tomcat), so I'm pretty confident I'm explaining my findings correctly. Can anyone provide any insight into what is happening? If I'm right, does anyone know what versions of JAXB the various Sun/Oracle JDKs really use?

• Papervision3D: mouseEnabled = false on DisplayObject3D

  How do I make a DisplayObject3D have mouseEnabled = false. I have a Sprite behind the Papervision3D scene listening for mouse events and so i need to let it pick up those mouse events through some of the DisplayObject3D objects. I've tried adding the DisplayObject3D to a separate ViewportLayer and setting thats mouseEnabled to false but that doesn't seem to work. Please help! Thanks.

• AutoScroll issues with custom layout on Windows Forms application

  I've implemented a basic custom layout engine in Windows Forms that does control sizing and positioning. I was hoping to allow the AutoScroll features to work untouched, but any time I have enough controls on the screen to require a scroll bar, some of the layout events that get fired (i.e, a rich text box that expands the height as it types) not only fire the layout events, but they force the scroll bar back at (0,0). Do I have any options besides looking at the scroll position and positioning the controls manually based on that?

  I've been working on a game with an engine that updates 20 times per seconds. I've got to point now where I want to start getting some performance figures and tweak the rendering and logic updates. In order to do so I started to add some timing code to my game loop, implemented as follows... NSDate* startTime = [NSDate date]; // Game update logic here.... // Also timing of smaller internal events NSDate* endTime = [NSDate date]; [endTime timeIntervalSinceDate:startTime]; I noticed however that when I timed blocks within the outer timing logic that the time they took to execute did not sum up to match the overall time taken. So what happened to the other 0.000011ms? Is there anything that looks particularly wrong with my code? Or is there an alternative timing mechanism I should use?

• jQuery Dialog causing buttons not to post-back

  I'm using the jQuery UI Dialog() function on an ASP.NET webform, on a particular panel. After Dialog() is applied, the buttons become useless and will not post back at all; I'm not even getting a Page_Load event firing, let alone any button events. Is the Dialog function messing with my button events? If so, is there a way to fix this?

  I have added Private Frameworks To my project. When I build in DEVICE | RELEASE everything works fine and I am able to ldid -S the application and it successfully launches on my device. However, when trying to BUILD AND GO in Simulator, I get the error "No such file or directory" as indicated below: (I also get the error twice which is strange too.) Line Location HomeProfileViewController.h:10: error: BluetoothManager/BluetoothManager.h: No such file or directory Below are the project and build settings that I currently have, maybe someone can find a mistake and let me know, that would be awesome! • When is it worth using a BindingSource?

  I think I understand well enough what the BindingSource class does - i.e. provide a layer of indirection between a data source and a UI control. It implements the IBindingList interface and therefore also provides support for sorting. And I've used it frequently enough, without too many problems. But I'm wondering if I use it more often than I should. Perhaps an example would help. Let's say I have just a simple textbox on a form (using WinForms), and I'd like to bind that textbox to a simple property inside a class that returns a string. Is it worth using a BindingSource in this situation? Now let's say I have a grid on my form, and I'd like to bind it to a DataTable. Should I use a BindingSource now? In the latter case, I probably would not use a BindingSource, as a DataTable, from what I can gather, provides the same functionality that the BindingSource itself would. The DataTable will fire the the right events when a row is added, deleted, etc so that the grid will automatically update. But in the first case with the textbox being bound to a string, I would probably have the class that contains the string property implement INotifyPropertyChanged, so that it could fire the PropertyChanged event when the string changes. I would use a BindingSource so that it could listen to these PropertyChanged events so that it could update the textbox automatically when the string changes. How does this sound so far? I still feel like there's a gap in my understanding that's preventing me from seeing the whole picture. This has been a pretty vague question so far, so I'll try to ask some more specific questions - ideally the answers will reference the above examples or something similar... (1) Is it worth using a BindingSource in either of the above examples? (2) It seems that developers just "assume" that the DataTable class will do the right thing, in firing PropertyChanged events at the right time. How does one know if a data source is capable of doing this? Is there a particular interface that a data source should implement in order for developers to be able to assume this behaviour? (3) Does it matter what Control is being bound to, when considering whether or not to use a BindingSource? Or is it only the data source that should affect the decision? Perhaps the answer is (and this would seem logical enough): the Control needs to be intelligent enough to listen to the PropertyChanged events, otherwise a BindingSource is required. So how does one tell if the Control is capable of doing this? Again, is there a particular interface that developers can look for that the Control must implement? It is this confusion that has, in the past, led to me always using a BindingSource. But I'd like to understand better exactly when to use one, so that I do so only when necessary.

  Trying to use as basic C++ as I can to build a list of numbers from 1-52 in a random order (deck of cards). Unfortauntely, all my attempts to concat the strings and get a result end in failure. Any suggestions? • Any way to colorize specific days in FullCalendar?

  Using FullCalendar, is there any way I can programmatically colorize specific days differently than the rest of the days? For example, in the "month" or "week" views, I'd like to colorize days with no events on them "red", and days with some events (but not yet a full schedule) "yellow". Days with a full schedule would be colorized normally (white background). Are there any callbacks or CSS tags I can take advantage of to add this behavior? Thank you.

• JVM segmentation faults due to "Invalid memory access of location"

  I have a small project written in Scala 2.9.2 with unit tests written using ScalaTest. I use SBT for compiling and running my tests. Running sbt test on my project makes the JVM segfault regularly, but just compiling and running my project from SBT works fine. Here is the exact error message: Invalid memory access of location 0x8 rip=0x10959f3c9 [1] 11925 segmentation fault sbt I cannot locate a core dump anywhere, but would be happy to provide it if it can be obtained. Running java -version results in this: java version "1.6.0_37" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_37-b06-434-11M3909) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.12-b01-434, mixed mode) But I've also got Java 7 installed (though I was never able to actually run a Java program with it, afaik). Another issue that may be related: some of my test cases contain titles including parentheses like ( and ). SBT or ScalaTest (not sure) will consequently insert square parens in the middle of the output. For example, a test case with the name (..)..(..) might suddenly look like (..[)..](..).
