  • .NET OCRing an Image

    I'm trying to use MODI to OCR a window's program. It works fine for screenshots I grab programmatically using win32 interop like this: public string SaveScreenShotToFile() { RECT rc; GetWindowRect(_hWnd, out rc); int width = rc.right - rc.left; int height = rc.bottom - rc.top; Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(width, height); Graphics gfxBmp = Graphics.FromImage(bmp); IntPtr hdcBitmap = gfxBmp.GetHdc(); PrintWindow(_hWnd, hdcBitmap, 0); gfxBmp.ReleaseHdc(hdcBitmap); gfxBmp.Dispose(); string fileName = @"c:\temp\screenshots\" + Guid.NewGuid().ToString() + ".bmp"; bmp.Save(fileName); return fileName; } This image is then saved to a file and ran through MODI like this: private string GetTextFromImage(string fileName) { MODI.Document doc = new MODI.DocumentClass(); doc.Create(fileName); doc.OCR(MODI.MiLANGUAGES.miLANG_ENGLISH, true, true); MODI.Image img = (MODI.Image)doc.Images[0]; MODI.Layout layout = img.Layout; StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 0; i < layout.Words.Count; i++) { MODI.Word word = (MODI.Word)layout.Words[i]; sb.Append(word.Text); sb.Append(" "); } if (sb.Length > 1) sb.Length--; return sb.ToString(); } This part works fine, however, I don't want to OCR the entire screenshot, just portions of it. I try cropping the image programmatically like this: private string SaveToCroppedImage(Bitmap original) { Bitmap result = original.Clone(new Rectangle(0, 0, 250, 250), original.PixelFormat); var fileName = "c:\\" + Guid.NewGuid().ToString() + ".bmp"; result.Save(fileName, original.RawFormat); return fileName; } and then OCRing this smaller image, however MODI throws an exception; 'OCR running error', the error code is -959967087. Why can MODI handle the original bitmap but not the smaller version taken from it?

  • Gridview with row headers

    I am using the ASP.NET3.5 gridview control in a new project. My problem is that the gridview presents data in basic tabular format, whereas I want a grid with row header / grouping behaviors. An example of this would be Outlook web interface, which can group emails by date, as well as allowing you to select individual emails to display. My problem: I can't see how this could be easily done with Gridview? I did find a product called Telerik that has a seemingly fancy Gridview, but I am hesitant to spend money on a single components that now also locks me into a third-party framework...

  • SQL Agent Command Line Not Saved

    I have a SSIS package I am trying to schedule. I create a new job under SQL Server Agent. On the Command line tab of the jobstep, I choose "Edit the command-line manually". The changes are retained as I switch from tab to tab within the job step but whenever I exit and save the job, the changes are lost. Any ideas what's going on? I'm on SQL Server 2008.

    I have a multiline Textbox for my web page. When user logs in and enters text and press "Save" button, data will be saved. Then, next time when the same user logs in and searches for data, I want him to edit only new text in multiline TextBox, not removing or replacing previously entered text. Is there any way to make multiline TextBox to lock inserted lines or inserted text and allow to only add text? Thanks in advance.

    Hi guys, I'm unhappy from GAE because - One can't have a global variable and the 'synchronize' keyword. Instead one have to catch a basically DB transcational exception and retry in a while loop - which will eat all my free CPU time and will start costing me money as I reach the google's qouata. Is it safe to use synchronize inside a doPost() in tomcat? (i guess that it's ok as long as all the servlets are running on on 1 VM?). If not in all tomcat configurations, how do I configure tomcat to make it safe? How can I convert a GAE app to my own tomcat server? - How to install DataNucleus Access Platform on tomcat?   • How "healthy" is the haskell community

    I came across a post where someone wrote something inaccurate about haskell (won't go into it) and he got flammed for it. Which (pleasantly) surprised me. About 3 years ago I read this joke about haskell: All the haskell programmers in the world can fit into a 747 and if that plane were to crash no one would care... or something along those lines. Which brings me to my question: is haskell "mainstream"? Is it mainly used by hobbiest and academics or someone making some serious money from it (which is the true yardstick of how good a language is - just kidding, geez!)?

Last but not the least, the service should provide good value for money (i.e. it should be inexpensive or relatively inexpensive for the features it provides). I am (currently) based in the United Kingdom (I dont know if this is relevant in the choise of SMS service provider).     I'm trying to create a zipfile in a MVC method using the DotNetZip components. Here is my code: public FileResult DownloadImagefilesAsZip() { using (var memoryStream = new MemoryStream()) { using (var zip = new ZipFile()) { zip.AddDirectory(Server.MapPath("/Images/")); zip.Save(memoryStream); return File(memoryStream, "gzip", "images.zip"); } } } When I run it I get a "Cannot access a closed Stream" error, and I'm not sure why.

  • Streaming server required with JW Player?

    Currently, a site I developed plays mp3 files directly in JW Player using the file attribute and public URLs to the mp3 file. This is now an issue with the client for legal reasons, and they now need to stream the audio files so that the users can't open up their cache and nab the files directly after downloading. The JW player site has a bunch of examples for streaming video, but nothing for audio. Is it possible to stream audio files with JW player, and do we have to pay a lot of money for a streaming provider? Is it possible to do on the local php server?

    I'm trying to put together a business case for getting every developer in our company an Intel SSD drive. The main codebase contains roughly 400,000 lines of code. My theory is that since the code is scattered about in maybe 1500 files, an SSD drive would be substantially faster for compiles. The logic being that many small reads really punishes the seak-time bottle-neck of a traditional hard-drive. Am I right? Is SSD worth the money in productivity gains by reducing the edit/compile cycle time?

However, I do not want to spend the money to get CS4. Can I create flash movies from only Actionscript 3? Or would anyone recommend that I jump straight to air? All of the different adobe products, which do the same thing, confuse me. I just do not want to jump into it and then find out that I have to spend 900 dollars for the IDE.
