Two Network Adapters on Hyper-V Host - Best way to configure?

Hi, I have two physical network adapters installed in my Hyper-V host. I want one to be dedicated to the host, and the other to provide external network services to the VMs. Would the appropriate configuration be as such: Leave the first physical network adapter alone, assigning it the host IP, but not using it to create any Virtual Netorks For the second physical adapter, I would create an External Network, along with a Microsoft Virtual Switch, and use that to provide network services to the VMs. Each virtual NIC for the VM would be associated with that External Network. A static IP would be assigned to this adapter, and each VM would be assigned a static IP as well. The above seems reasonable to me, but I'm not sure if it's correct. Does anyone have any thoughts? SQL 2008 Replication corrupt data problem

We took a SQL 2000 database. Took a lightspeed backup. Restored on SQL 2008 active/passive cluster. Then setup replication to replicate the data back to SQL 2000. So 2008 is the publisher/distributor, and 2000 is doing a pull subscription. Everything works well, execpt we occassionally get corrupt data in varchar/text fields on the subscriber. So for example we have a table with 4500 records. When we run this statement: update MedstaffProvider set Notes = 'Cell Phone: 360.123.4567 Answering Service: 360.123.9876' where LastName = 'smith' The record in the 2008 database is updated as expected. But in the subsriber datbase we'll get gibberish in the notes field: óPÌ[1] T $Oé[1] ð²ñ. K Here's what we know: This is repeatable, meaning we can run that same query all day long and get the same gibberish. If you alter update statement slightly the data gets replicated just fine. The collation on both databases is the same. So far we've only detected the problem with text/varchar fields. (The notes field above is text). Only one or two records in a table are impacted. The table structure looks identical in both 2000/2008. We haven't made any changes. We have found one solution that fixes the problem. Basically if we recreate the table in 2008 (say as MedStaffProvider2) and then insert all the data. Drop the original table. Rename the table to it's original name. Setup replication again. And run the exact same update statement it works as expected. Does anyone have any idea what might be happening here? Or are there any other techniques we can use to troubleshoot this? I've found a solution for this, but would really like to undertsand why this is happening.

How would I craft a sql statement that I can run from cron that would go and delete and rows that where older then a month? VMWare Player guest does not re-aquire IP on bridged interface after host loses and re-acquires network connectivity

I am running a Ubuntu Linux image in VMWare Player on my laptop. The host is Windows XP. There are two network adapters configured in VMWare Player - one is host-only and the other is bridged. Everything works fine as long as the host does not lose network connectivity. If the host loses connectivity (even briefly) and then re-acquires it, my bridged adapter in VMWare Player is still unable to get an IP address. The host-only adapter remains unaffected. Disconnecting/Reconnecting the bridged adapter does not help. Simply restarting the guest OS does not help. Restarting VMWare Player does not help. The only remedy is to reboot the host and then bring up VMWare Player all over again. Is there something I can try to avoid this reboot? I searched the existing questions but they seemed to talk about adapters in NAT mode, whereas I am interested in retaining Bridged mode.

Are there any computer vendors (like Dell, Lenovo, or..) that still sell laptops with an internal serial port? We are using several modem and other kind of box at work that have to be used (and/or programmed) with serial port (RS232, DB9, ..). We tried many usb/pcmcia serial adapter which run fine when used to load programs on the boxes but not with modems. The protocol behind the RTC connection (with modem) need timer we are not able to reach when using an adapter (maybe until we find a very good adapter), and that leads to my question..

Notebook computer battery says: plugged in but not charging with no further information. Is the bat

My 1.5 year old Dell Studio 15 notebook computer has a battery and I keep it attached to the notebook but 98% of the time I just plug in the power adapter. Lately when I unplugged the power adapter, the battery was only good for 10 minutes, and a few days ago, when I unplugged the power adapter, the computer simply turned off. When clicking on the battery icon on Win 7, it says "Plugged in, not charging": is the battery dead? Or can Win 7 have any option to not charge the battery? It is a Dell Studio 15, I wonder if in such case, it looks like it can be a manufacture's defect, would Dell replace the battery? (if there was a recall, then they probably would, i think). The notebook is 1.5 year old.

Unable to extend desktop

I'm trying to hook up my TV to my computer as a gaming/multimedia center but I'm having troubles setting it up. I have a custom built machine running Windows 7 RC. It has an ATI Radeon 4800 video card with 2 dvi output and 1 S-video output. I have an s-video to composite adapter that connects to my tv. (It's an old TV with only Cable, composite, and s-video connections). I can switch the desktop to my TV without a problem, but I can't duplicate or extend my desktop onto it. I've installed the latest drivers and Catalyst Control Center, but it won't let it work any more readily than Windows would. Any suggestions? Would using an s-video cable instead of the adapter change anything? (The only reason I use the adapter is because it came with the graphics card) (Edit) I installed the latest drivers and I can now duplicate the screen (show on one monitor and on the TV), but I still can't extend the desktop.

I'm building a virtual cluster with VirtualBox and Opensuse. I have 10 physical machines and need several vms on each. The virtual machines are supposed to be in a "private" network, but still have internet access. I was asked to set up a virtual head node working as DHCP server. I installed DHCP server on the virtual head node and it seems works. On VirtualBox I set 2 network adapters to the head node, one bridged adapter and one internal network. One vm on the same physical machine has been set nic as internal network adapter. The vm can get IP address (so DHCP works) but can't access internet. What should I do? Specifically, what network adapter should I choose for head-node and work-nodes in VirtualBox? What in the virtual machines should I do?

Where can I configure wireless to be passed on to the Virtualbox guest?

I have WinXP install in virtualbox which host in Linux. I have a TP-Link (TP-WN321G) USB wifi adapter and have the driver installed inside WinXP. When I plug-in the wifi adapter, there is an option show "Ralink 802.11g WLAN [0101]" in the virtualbox's USB icon, tick on that option, the Device Manager able to detect the hardware which shows TP-Link, but when look into the properties, it says there is no driver was install. I did try to install Ralink driver but still no luck. Just curious why my wifi adapter is TP-Link, but the option show Ralink? May I know how can I emulate the wireless network inside WindowsXP?

My setup: A new projector (EPSON EMP TW700) with a HDCP-compliant HDMI port a PC with a brand-new graphics adapter (Sapphire HD 4350 512MB DDR2) supporting HDCP Connection made with a DVI cable (it's installed in my wall) and a DVI-HDMI adapter to connect the projector Latest drivers and software My questions: What can I do to establish the HDCP connection? Would it help to use the HDMI output of the graphics adapter instead of the DVI (could it be that the HDCP chip is only supported on HDMI?) Any other ideas? I am very thankful for any hint.

Graphics drivers could not find compatible graphics hardware

I have a desktop with Asus P5KPS/EPU motherboard and Nvidia GF 9600 GT Graphic Adapter. I just set up new windows 7. My problem is that I cannot find a good dirver for my Graphic Adapter. I've downloaded driver from Nvidia.com which say support my GF 9600 GT, but when I installed it, it said This graphics drivers could not find compatible graphics hardware. I go into safe mode, uninstall Standard Graphics Adapter that auto installed then install my Nvidia driver, still not work. Anyone can show me how to solve this problem?

Overheating on Ubuntu 12.04

I have a Dell Inspiron Q17R with two graphic cards and I noticed that it is overheating. I installed Bumblebee, Jupiter and Flashblock, and I followed this guide as well, but it still got up to 74C. Is there anything more I can do? It still doesn't really seem to be working well and the fan keeps spinning really fast. Issues with "There is already an object named 'xxx' in the database'

I'm fairly new to SQL so this may be an easy mistake, but I haven't been able to find a solid solution anywhere else. Problem is whenever I try to use my temp table, it tells me it cannot be used because there is already an object with that name. I frequently try switching up the names, and sometimes it'll let me work with the table for a little while, but it never lasts for long. Am I dropping the table incorrectly? What I'm trying to do: Connect to the internet without registering But! Here's my problem: I can't connect. I used to be able to, now when I try to connect it says "Server not found." I can connect just fine on my other Laptop. I did a test as well. I used a LAN USB adapter and could connect fine, then now I can't connect again. Possibly because I am using uTorrent to download stuff, but I want to connect again Is there anyway I can use some sort of "virtual adapter"-type of connection where it masks my actual adapter? Blank screen on laptop after replacement

I have an Acer Aspire 5332 laptop, running Windows 7 home premium 32bit. My screen broke, but the particular screen (LED) are no longer made so I bought a CCFL one with a new converter which has proven to be compatible according to the supplier. When I first booted the screen went blank just after the Windows logo was displayed. I suspected a driver issue, so booted in safe mode without any problems, disabled the display adapter (Intel 4 series express family) and it booted up fine. So I guess the screen is not compatible with the display adapter. The driver version is 8.15.10.1892. I tried updating from the Intel site, but it saying it cannot (something to do with manufacturer specific). The supplier is not willing to take it back, so I'm down £60 (UK). I can use it with the adapter disabled, but the quality is bad and I cannnot play video, etc. Any help appreciated.

How can I bind events to strongly typed datasets of different types?

My application contains several forms which consist of a strongly typed datagridview, a strongly typed bindingsource, and a strongly typed table adapter. I am using some code in each form to update the database whenever the user leaves the current row, shifts focus away from the datagrid or the form, or closes the form. This code is the same in each case, so I want to make a subclass of form, from which all of these forms can inherit. But the strongly typed data objects all inherit from component, which doesn't expose the events I want to bind to or the methods I want to invoke. The only way I can see of gaining access to the events is to use: Type(string Name).GetEvent(string EventName).AddEventHandler(object Target,Delegate Handler) Similarly, I want to call the Update method of the strongly typed table adapter, and am using Type(string Name).GetMethod(String name, Type[] params).Invoke(object target, object[] params). It works ok, but it seems very heavy handed. Is there a better way?
