• Cannot execute "LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE" Mysql query in Rails after a connection reconnection

  On Rails 2.3.8 (but I think Rails 3 might have this issue as well, not sure): I get an error when trying to execute a LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE query after reconnecting to a database. I have a process that parses a file that can potentially take a bit of time. During the parsing, Mysql closes the connection due to timeout. This is fine, I do a ActiveRecord::Base.verify_active_connections! and I get the connection back (I do this in several places through my app). However, running a LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE statement, I get this error: Mysql::Error: The used command is not allowed with this MySQL version It's not a permission issue, I know that for sure. • Custom dynamic error pages in Ruby on Rails not working

  Hi, I'm trying to implement custom dynamic error pages following this post: http://www.perfectline.co.uk/blog/custom-dynamic-error-pages-in-ruby-on-rails I did exactly what the blog post says. I included config.action_controller.consider_all_requests_local = false in my environment.rb. But is not working. My browser shows: Routing Error No route matches "/555" with {:method=>:get} So, it looks like the rescues are not fired. I get the following in my log file: ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches "/555" with {:method=>:get}): Rendering rescues/layout (not_found) Is there some routing interfering with the code? I'm not sure what to look for. I'm running rails 2.3.5. • Is it possible to create a service like Feed My Inbox on my own server?

  I was just wondering if it's at all possible to create a service like Feed My Inbox on my own server using PHP? Basically I have a site which has RSS feeds which are dynamic in nature and can search from thousands of posts based on many different criteria. I have the RSS feed working fine and bringing back data dynamically for whatever criteria I want so that bits fine. I am using the ExpressionEngine CMS to handle the site and there will be thousands of users on the site (currently there are around 2,0000) but that number is exponentially growing every single day. What I want to be able to do is allow the users to choose from certain criteria which will then build a dynamic RSS URL which will then be stored in a database table (one row for each user). This bit I will be able to do myself but then I want to be able to send out new RSS feed items via e-mail to each user. This is the part I'm a little stuck on. I'm guessing I would somehow need to run a cron job to hit a page which would check each users RSS feed and then if there are new items to send them to the user via e-mail. That's where I am totally stuck though and I'm just wondering what the best way to go about it would be? That or any software in PHP that already does this sort of thing would be great. I tried out phpList but it has severe problems working with RSS and I only ever got it to work once and now never again and I've read that lots of people have had this same problem so unfortunately it's not just me :-( I know there are services such as Feed My Inbox which I could easily set up so that users click a link and their RSS feed URL is added to go and use that service but I want to keep users from seeing the dynamic nature of the feed or they will easily be able to modify it to get at other items in the feed. I need this so that I can charge for access to the feeds but if people can see the URL of the feed then I will be totally unstuck as they will be able to get at whatever they want very easily. Therefore I'd like to be able to send the items out to them. Would really love to hear if anyone knows if this kind of thing is possible at all and what would be involved?

• Improving Javascript Load Times - Concatenation vs Many + Cache

  I'm wondering which of the following is going to result in better performance for a page which loads a large amount of javascript (jQuery + jQuery UI + various other javascript files). I have gone through most of the YSlow and Google Page Speed stuff, but am left wondering about a particular detail. A key thing for me here is that the site I'm working on is not on the public net; it's a business to business platform where almost all users are repeat visitors (and therefore with caches of the data, which is something that YSlow assumes will not be the case for a large number of visitors). First up, the standard approach recommended by tools such as YSlow is to concatenate it, compress it, and serve it up in a single file loaded at the end of your page. This approach sounds reasonably effective, but I think that a key part of the reasoning here is to improve performance for users without cached data. The system I currently have is something like this * All javascript files are compressed and loaded at the bottom of the page * All javascript files have far future cache expiration dates, so will remain (for most users) in the cache for a long time * Pages only load the javascript files that they require, rather than loading one monolithic file, most of which will not be required Now, my understanding is that, if the cache expiration date for a javascript file has not been reached, then the cached version is used immediately; there is no HTTP request sent at to the server at all. If this is correct, I would assume that having multiple tags is not causing any performance penalty, as I'm still not having any additional requests on most pages (recalling from above that almost all users have populated caches). In addition to this, not loading the JS means that the browser doesn't have to interpret or execute all this additional code which it isn't going to need; as a B2B application, most of our users are unfortunately stuck with IE6 and its painfully slow JS engine. Another benefit is that, when code changes, only the affected files need to be fetched again, rather than the whole set (granted, it would only need to be fetched once, so this is not so much of a benefit). I'm also looking at using LabJS to allow for parallel loading of the JS when it's not cached. So, what do people think is a better approach? In a similar vein, what do you think about a similar approach to CSS - is monolithic better?

• Approaches for Content-based Item Recommendations

  Hello, I'm currently developing an application where I want to group similar items. Items (like videos) can be created by users and also their attributes can be altered or extended later (like new tags). Instead of relying on users' preferences as most collaborative filtering mechanisms do, I want to compare item similarity based on the items' attributes (like similar length, similar colors, similar set of tags, etc.). The computation is necessary for two main purposes: Suggesting x similar items for a given item and for clustering into groups of similar items. My application so far is follows an asynchronous design and I want to decouple this clustering component as far as possible. The creation of new items or the addition of new attributes for an existing item will be advertised by publishing events the component can then consume. Computations can be provided best-effort and "snapshotted", which means that I'm okay with the best result possible at a given point in time, although result quality will eventually increase. So I am now searching for appropriate algorithms to compute both similar items and clusters. At important constraint is scalability. Initially the application has to handle a few thousand items, but later million items might be possible as well. Of course, computations will then be executed on additional nodes, but the algorithm itself should scale. It would also be nice if the algorithm supports some kind of incremental mode on partial changes of the data. My initial thought of comparing each item with each other and storing the numerical similarity sounds a little bit crude. Also, it requires n*(n-1)/2 entries for storing all similarities and any change or new item will eventually cause n similarity computations. Thanks in advance! UPDATE tl;dr To clarify what I want, here is my targeted scenario: User generate entries (think of documents) User edit entry meta data (think of tags) And here is what my system should provide: List of similar entries to a given item as recommendation Clusters of similar entries Both calculations should be based on: The meta data/attributes of entries (i.e. usage of similar tags) Thus, the distance of two entries using appropriate metrics NOT based on user votings, preferences or actions (unlike collaborative filtering). Although users may create entries and change attributes, the computation should only take into account the items and their attributes, and not the users associated with (just like a system where only items and no users exist). Ideally, the algorithm should support: permanent changes of attributes of an entry incrementally compute similar entries/clusters on changes scale something better than a simple distance table, if possible (because of the O(n²) space complexity)

• Watchguard SSLVPN user connection issue

  I have a user that needs access to our SSLVPN on our Watchguard firewall from his company issued laptop. The problem is when he tries to connect as himself he cannot connect. If I login to the machine it works fine, if I add him to the domain admins group in Active Directory it works fine… So, we know it is an access issue but I cannot figure out what access he needs. He is in the SSLVPN-Users group which I thought would give them all the access they needed but apparently not… Here is the output of the SSLVPN Logs when trying to connect: 2012-09-14T15:40:55.834 Launching WatchGuard Mobile VPN with SSL client. • Getting client denied when accessing a wsgi graphite script

  I'm trying to set up graphite on my Mac OS X 10.7 lion, i've set up apache to call the python graphite script via WSGI, but when i try to access it, i get a forbiden from apache and in the error log. "client denied by server configuration: /opt/graphite/webapp/graphite.wsgi" I've checked that the scripts location is allowed in httpd.conf, and the permissions of the file, but they seem correct. What do i have to do to get access. • ADSIEdit Cleanup After Exchange 2003 Crash During Transition To Exchange 2010

  Hello all. I would value some input from a few Exchange 2010 experts. I have almost completed the transition from Exchange 2003 Standard to Exchange 2010 Standard. Everything went smoothly until I tried to uninstall Exchange 2003. At that point the server bit the dust and died completely. I now have NO access to the old Exchange System Management MMC as I am running Windows 2008 SR2 and Windows 7 only. I can only fix this with ADSIEdit, EMShell, and EMConsole. I have used the 2010 shell to move/remove/verify that all mailboxes, public folders and OAB are hosted on Exchange 2010. I also verified that the routing connector has been deleted. The only two things that were not done was to remove the Recipient Update Service and actually perform the removal of the 2003 software. I have spent a lot of time going through ASDIedit and have located the old Administrative Group and the Exchange 2003 server listed under it. I also located the Recipient Update Service which includes two entries; Enterprise and my domain name. I have read that it is an unwise idea to remove the old administrative group so I won't bother messing with that. I am repeatedly getting three warnings in the Application Log. Both are from MSExchangeTransport EventID 5006 (Cannot find route to Mailbox Server OLDSERVER) and 5020 (The topology doesn't contain a route to Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003) So my questions are: To clean out AD of the old Exchange 2003 info, can I delete the server name folder (Configuration - Services - Microsoft Exchange - ExchOrg - Administrative Groups - First Administrative Group - Servers - Old Server) and also delete the Update Recipient Service (Enterprise) and Update Recipient Service (DOMAIN) containers safely? Are there any additional items I need to address to ensure the AD is clean? Thanks in advance for your help!

• Snow Leopard doesn't repair permissions, despite showing / saying its fixed them?

  Sometime ago, I used carbon copy as I was replacing my hard drive in my Mac Mini running Snow Leopard. Afterwards, on my new drive I had some permission problems. I've tried several times running a repair permissions / repair disk from disk util. It shows that there are problems and I think it says its correceted the problems. However the problems remain, what can I do to fix them ?   Hoping someone can explain what is probably fairly obvious...but confuses me. Imagine two users with admin privileges on our server (Mac OS X Server 10.5). Call them joe & bob. both users are members of these groups: Staff Group ID: 20 Workgroup Group ID: 1025 Shared folder "devfolder" has sharing set as so: POSIX: Owner: joe read & write Group: admin read & write Other no access ACL: Workgroup Allow Read & write Question is why when looking at same folder does the ownership appear to change depending on who's doing the looking?!? • Heartbeat won't successfully start up resources from a cold boot when a failed node is present

  I currently have two ubuntu servers running Heartbeat and DRBD. The servers are directory connected with a 1000Mbps crossover cable on eth1 and have access to an IP camera LAN on eth0. Now, let's say that one node is down and the remaining functional node is booting after having been shut down. The node that is still functioning won't start up heartbeat and provide access to the drbd resource from a cold boot. I have to manually restart heartbeat by sudo service heartbeat restart to get everything up and running. How can I get it to start fine from a cold start, when only one server is present? • ASDIEdit Cleanup After Exchange 2003 Crash During Transition To Exchange 2010

  Hello all. I would value some input from a few experts. I have almost completed the transition from Exchange 2003 Standard to Exchange 2010 Standard. Everything went smoothly until I tried to uninstall Exchange 2003. At that point the server bit the dust and died completely. I now have NO access to the old Exchange System Management MMC as I am running Windows 2008 SR2 and Windows 7 only. I can only fix this with ASDIEdit, EMShell, and EMConsole. I have used the 2010 shell to move/remove/verify that all mailboxes, public folders and OAB are hosted on Exchange 2010. I also verified that the routing connector has been deleted. The only two things that were not done was to remove the Recipient Update Service and actually perform the removal of the 2003 software. I have spent a lot of time going through ASDIedit and have located the old Administrative Group and the Exchange 2003 server listed under it. I also located the Recipient Update Service which includes two entries; Enterprise and my domain name. I have read that it is an unwise idea to remove the old administrative group so I won't bother messing with that. I am repeatedly getting three warnings in the Application Log. Both are from MSExchangeTransport EventID 5006 (Cannot find route to Mailbox Server OLDSERVER) and 5020 (The topology doesn't contain a route to Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003) So my questions are: To clean out AD of the old Exchange 2003 info, can I delete the server name folder (Configuration - Services - Microsoft Exchange - ExchOrg - Administrative Groups - First Administrative Group - Servers - Old Server) and also delete the Update Recipient Service (Enterprise) and Update Recipient Service (DOMAIN) containers safely? Are there any additional items I need to address to ensure the AD is clean? Thanks in advance for your help!

  I'm running supervisord on my CentOS 6 box like so, /usr/bin/supervisord -c /etc/supervisord.conf and when I launch supervisorctl all process status are fine, but if I try to reload using supervisorctl I get unix:///tmp/supervisor.sock no such file I'm using the same config file I've used successfully on other boxes, and im running everything as root. • SNMPD running but not listening for connections at random

  OS: CentOS release 5.7 (Final) Net-SNMP: net-snmp-5.3.2.2-14.el5_7.1 (from RPM) Periodically my NMS notifies me that SNMP has gone down on this machine. The service is restored in between 10 to 30 minutes. My NMS also pings and check SSH and those services are not affected during the SNMP outage. SNMPD log file shows that it is working and apparently receiving packets (either from local agents from 127.0.0.1 or from my NMS at 172.16.37.37) however attempting to snmpwalk locally or from the NMS system fails with a timeout. I have 7 of these servers running mixture of CentOS 5.7 and RHEL 5.7 with this specific version of Net-SNMP installed from RPM - none of them have this issue except this one. 5 of the machines (including the NMS system and this problem server) are in the same rack connected using one switch. Restarting SNMPD does not fix the issue - it clears up by itself eventually. Any suggestions where I can begin diagnosing the issue? It's a closed subnet so IPTables is not used. • Server 2003 R2 doesn't allow logon after a few days of uptime

  We have a server 2003 R2 standard (which I'll refer to as SRV01) that's knocking on a bit now, but it still acts as a file, print and SQL server on our company's network. SRV01 hosts user profiles, home directories and pretty much all our business data. Note our AD is currently at 2008 R2 level. This server is due to be upgraded in the next 12 months, but I've no budget to spend on it just yet. A bit of history of this server follows: When SRV01 was first commissioned, it acted as a domain controller (with the same 2003 R2 install it has today), paired with another server that ran Server 2003 R2 SBS. A few years ago, we purchased a pair of dedicated DCs (2008 R2) and at this point we decommissioned the 2003 SBS server, and SRV01 was DCPROMOed out of the AD. Up until very recently, SRV01 used to run Exchange 2003, however we've recently purchased a dedicated server for Exchange 2010 and upgraded (following Microsoft recommended upgrade path). Exchange 2003 was recently uninstalled. - Cleanly to the best of my knowledge. Ever since Exchange was removed from SRV01, I'm finding that after a few days of uptime, when I attempt to logon, pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL just hides the Welcome to Windows Server 2003 banner, and never presents the logon dialog. All I see is a moveable mouse pointer and a blank background. It's a similar story with an admin TS session, the RDP client connects and gives me a blank background, but no logon dialog is presented. The RDP session indefinitely hangs until I give up and close it. The only way I've been able to gain access to the server is to pull the plug on it. Whilst the server does have a battery backed up RAID 5 controller, I'm unhappy about having to do this, so as a temporary measure, I've created a scheduled job to reboot SRV01 each night. Not only do I not like the idea of scheduling a reboot of a server like this, but it is also causing problems for users that leave desktop PCs left logged on overnight. Users complain of 'Delayed Write Failures', and there has also been a number of users that have started to complain about account lockout problems, as well as users not able to connect to shares on SRV01 until they reboot their desktop PCs. I've examined event logs on SRV01 and on the DCs looking for clues as to what the problem is, but there really is nothing untoward being logged. How could I being to investigate this problem when nothing of any relevance is being logged? Is there some additional logging that can be enabled that might give some clues as to what could be causing this problem? Could performance monitor help me out here, and if so, what counters would you consider monitoring? It's worth mentioning that whilst the server is unresponsive via the console and TS, it does still respond to clients connecting to shares without problems for several days, but after about a week I then start to hear users reporting problems accessing shares, but this seems quite sporadic. I've also tried leaving the console logged on (and locked), when I notice I can no longer logon via TS, I can unlock the server console without problem, but it refuses to reboot/shutdown, and subsequent attempts to reboot report that a system shutdown is already in progress and the system then completely hangs. I've tried playing the waiting game for several hours thinking that a timeout might allow the shutdown to continue, but to no avail.

• MSI Installer error 2203; how to force permissions on installer directory?

Feel free to let me know where it best belongs.] Hi all, I'll try to bullet-point to keep it short: Background / Issue Trying to install ASP.NET MVC 3 RC on my Windows 7 machine. Uninstalled other versions of MVC (2 and 3 Beta 1). Ran the installer -- got a generic error, 2203. Log files said that it was a permissions error on C:\Windows\Installer. Checked C:\Windows\Installer -- sure enough, it's marked as read-only. I un-checked "Read-Only" in the folder properties and applied. It appears to open the dialog and apply to all files. However, when clicking properties again, the read-only box is backed to checked. Checked the security tab of the folder -- both system and the Administrators group have full access. I checked ownership -- the Administrators group is listed as an owner. Verified that I'm in the system as an Administrator (in fact, the only account in the Administrators group besides Administrator). So, what gives? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

• Can't view other computers on Network

  Systems: My Machine: Windows 7 Ultimate connected through ethernet into router Her Machine--Other Machine: Windows 7 Ultimate connected through wireless Router:F5D8236-4 N Wireless Router Version 1 Firmware: 2.01.03 (Apr 28 2009) ISP: Comcast Problem: I can not view the "Other Machine" on the network at all. I opened command prompt and ran net view and saw the pc name. I tried pinging the pc and it times out. Went inside the router and tried viewing the computer on the DHCP list and it can not be seen. I restored the router back to default settings and firmware and completely reset the modem and router, and created home group. I went to the other machine to configure home group settings and made sure that both PC's had identical settings. She was able to see my machine but I could not see hers. I restarted both machines and now we cant see each other at all. Also her PC ("Other Machine") had exclamation mark in the wireless icon but was connected just fine. There is no firewalls on currently or anti-virus enabled, and still can not see each other. Right now I am checking for updated drivers for the wireless card, but my question is could it be the router or something hardware related? I have went through all the settings in the Home group and visited most FAQ's and still no luck. Also as it stands I can not view her machine inside the router DHCP Client List :(

  Hello, I have nfs4 configured between a RHEL 5.3 server (charlie) and a RHEL 5.4 client (simcom1). The machines are configured to authenticate users via kerberos by a Windows Server 2008 active directory machine called "alpha." Alpha also serves as a dns and dhcp machine for the local network. I notice that when a user logs in to a RHEL machine for the first time they are issued a unique uid to that machine; The first user to log on gets 10001. So, what I see is that users between simcom1 and charlie have different UIDs. When a user does an 'ls -la' command from within an nfs4 mount I would have thought that the usernames in the owner column would indicate 'nobody' or at least the wrong user name - since UIDs are different between the machines for each user, and not all users have logged into each machine. However, the simcom1 is able to resolve usernames in an 'ls -la' executed on files residing on charlie via nfs4 correctly. Most troubling is that users are unable to write to files across the nfs mount. The server, charlie, has the root directory exported as rw. The client, simcom1, mounts the export as rw. My configurations are shown below. My question is, how do I configure the RHEL machines to allow users to write files across nfs4 that is already mounted as read/write? • Blank desktop when logging into a Virtualized Windows 2008 Terminal Server?

  We have a Virtualized Terminal Server running Windows Server 2008. When the admin user logs in, everything is fine. When anyone else logs in, their desktop and start menu is blank (they have the taskbar, start button, and quick launch links though). If I go into Windows Explorer, I can see icons in their desktop folder (although the icon image is missing and it is just displaying the generic icon), but can't run any of them. If I login with a user that is part of the Administrator group in Active directory, I get the same behavior except I can launch the programs found in the Desktop Folder of Windows Explorer. I cannot drag these items out onto the desktop though - The cursor doesn't allow me to drop them. From Task Manager I can see that explorer.exe and dwm.exe are both running. The Authenticated Users and Interactive groups are both under the Users group, along with our network's Domain Users group. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it? Also, not sure if it's related but about 1 in every 3 logins just hangs at a completely blank blue screen (no start button, taskbar, or quick launch buttons) and needs to be disconnected / reset by an admin. Edit I just noticed that the desktop itself doesn't even respond to click events. It's almost like the entire desktop is missing. At first I thought it didn't respond to right-click events because of an AD policy, but then I noticed if you open the Start Menu and click the desktop, the start menu doesn't shut like it should

• Weird permission issue with POSIX ACLs, NFS v3 on Linux

  I have two Linux systems, both running Debian Squeeze. Versions of (I think) the stuff involved are: kernel: 2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 ii nfs-kernel-server 1:1.2.2-4squeeze2 support for NFS kernel server ii libnfsidmap2 0.23-2 An nfs idmapping library ii nfs-common 1:1.2.2-4squeeze2 NFS support files common to client and server ii portmap 6.0.0-2 RPC port mapper (The client doesn't have nfs-kernel-server involved.) I have a directory with ACLs: # file: dirname # owner: jon # group: foogroup # flags: -s- user::rwx user:www-data:rwx group::r-x group:foogroup:rwx mask::rwx other::r-x default:... There are two users, neither one of which owns the directory: uid=3001(jake) gid=3001(jake) groups=3001(jake),104(wheel),3999(foogroup) uid=3005(nic) gid=3005(nic) groups=3005(nic),3999(foogroup) The jake user can create files in the directory without issues. The nic user can't. All UIDs/GIDs are the same on the client and server. I've verified (packet sniffing) that the right uids/gids get sent via AUTH_UNIX are correct-- uid=gid=3005, auxiliary gids=3005,3999-- and that the server replies with NFS3ERR_ACCESS, which the kernel on the client maps to EACCES (Permission denied). Can anyone help me here?

• Write access from a Windows client via a ZFS SMB, to a file created on the host in OpenIndiana

  I've got an OpenIndiana server running ZFS that is shared using a nobody user and group. I don't fully understand Solaris ACL permissions, but I do know Linux style permissions. The client is Windows 8 and the server is OpenIndiana is oi_148. I'm failing to work out how to make write permission work correctly for the Windows client. It is able to make new files, but can not modify files created by the shell in OpenIndiana. When a file ("local file") is created locally as the user nobody in bash, and another file ("smb file") created remotely via SMB (as nobody also), they are quite different in permissions: # ls -V -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 0 Dec 2 12:24 local file owner@:rw-p--aARWcCos:-------:allow group@:r-----a-R-c--s:-------:allow everyone@:r-----a-R-c--s:-------:allow -rwx------+ 1 nobody nobody 0 Dec 2 12:24 smb file user:nobody:rwxpdDaARWcCos:-------:allow group:2147483648:rwxpdDaARWcCos:-------:allow In bash, I'm able to write to smb file, but vice versa, the Windows client is not able to write to local file. This is confusing to me because it appears that it should allow the SMB client to write to local file, because nobody is the owner and it has a w in the ACL. The sharesmb setting is is fairly boring, although I'm hoping there can something to set in here similar to a umask: sharesmb name=shared,guestok=true How can I make these two work together and have a symmetrical permission system, where both SMB and the local user produce the same permissions? Is there some sort of ACL that can set at the root of the file system to allow all files to be created in a similar manner?

• Active Directory LDAP and user issues (using apache2 for svn access)

  I currently have a setup where I work that lets users use their active directory domain logins and passwords to authenticate and authorize access to Subversion. Currently I need to allow application accounts the same access. So our IT group creates application accounts in the active directory for us to use. But they want to be "secure" so they set the "Workstations Allowed" to be only a limited number of workstations. So when an application account hits the apache2 server for authentication they can't login for some reason and I'm having a heck of a time trying to debug.
