  • 301 redirect vs parking

    I have several domain names registered, each a slight variant of each other. E.g, fastcar.com fast-car.com fastcar.co.uk fast-car.co.uk etc.. I don't wish to be penalized for duplicate content or spammy links by any of the major search engines. Should I park them all directly on the main domain I wish to promote, 301 redirect them to the main domain or not use them at all? Thanks

    Trying a bit of AJAX, and I find that much of my data is littered with underscores! Documentation confirms that this is working as intended. Any way to pass my form information to PHP in tact? I'm using code igniter, so my pass looks like /controller/function/variable, receiving controller: controller{ function($v=0){#what once was hello world is now hello_world...} } I can't very well do an undo, data might contain an underscore.   • Exception Handling in ASP.NET MVC and Ajax - [HandleException] filter

    All, I'm learning MVC and using it for a business app (MVC 1.0). I'm really struggling to get my head around exception handling. I've spent a lot of time on the web but not found anything along the lines of what I'm after. We currently use a filter attribute that implements IExceptionFilter. We decorate a base controller class with this so all server side exceptions are nicely routed to an exception page that displays the error and performs logging. I've started to use AJAX calls that return JSON data but when the server side implementation throws an error, the filter is fired but the page does not redirect to the Error page - it just stays on the page that called the AJAX method. Is there any way to force the redirect on the server (e.g. a ASP.NET Server.Transfer or redirect?) I've read that I must return a JSON object (wrapping the .NET Exception) and then redirect on the client, but then I can't guarantee the client will redirect... but then (although I'm probably doing something wrong) the server attempts to redirect but then gets an unauthorised exception (the base controller is secured but the Exception controller is not as it does not inherit from this) Has anybody please got a simple example (.NET and jQuery code).     I've modified my .htaccess file to have the following statement RewriteCond $1 !^index.php$ RewriteRule ^/?([^/]+)$ index.php?c=home&m=details&seo=$1 [L,NS] This allows me to use product URL's like this: http://domain.com/product_name However, when trying to access a file at the same level as index.php, it always calls the RewriteRule above and errors out. I need to be able to access files like below, but each URL currently attempts to load index.php. http://domain.com/about.htm http://domain.com/terms.htm http://domain.com/robots.txt etc Any suggestions on how I can modify my htaccess file to get this to work correctly?

    I'm developing a JSP/Servlets web app (no frameworks). I want to use MVC pattern. I designed my project like this : Controller :a servlet that reads a request, extracts the values,communicates with model objects and gives information to a JSP page. View : JSP Pages. Model : Java Classes / Java Beans .. etc . The problem : Index.jsp is the starting point (default page) in my web site. So, the Index.jsp becomes the controller to parse the request! .For example , the following request : index.jsp?section=article&id=10 parsed in index.jsp as following : <div class="midcol"> <!-- Which section? --> <%String fileName = request.getParameter("section"); if (fileName == null) { fileName = "WEB-INF/jspf/frontpage.jsp"; } else { fileName = "WEB-INF/jspf/" + fileName + ".jsp"; } %> <jsp:include page='<%= fileName%>' /> </div> Here, I can't force the servlet to be a controller .. because the index.jsp is the controller here since it's the starting point! Is there any solution to forward the request from index.jsp to the servlet and then go back to index.jsp ? Or any solution that achieves the MVC goal - the servlet should be the controller - ? I'm thinking of making a FrontPageController servlet as default page instead of index.jsp ! but I don't know if it's a perfect idea ?!

In short, if the route definition is the first in the route table, then the parameter takes its default value. But the others below don't.

    I have a UITabBarController, and each tab handles a different UIViewController that pushes on the stack new controllers as needed. In two of these tabs I need, when a specific controller is reached, the ability to rotate the iPhone and visualize a view in landscape mode. After struggling a lot I have found that it is mandatory subclassing UITabBarController to override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation. However, if i simply return YES in the implementation, the following undesirable side effect arises: every controller in every tab is automatically put in landscape mode when rotating the iPhone. Even overriding shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation in each controller to return NO does not work: when the iPhone is rotated, the controller is put in landscape mode. I implemented shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation as follows in the subclassed UITabBarController: (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { if([self selectedIndex] == 0 || [self selectedIndex] == 3) return YES; return NO; } So that only the two tabs I am interested in actually get support for landscape mode. Is there a way to support landscape mode for a specific controller on the stack of a particular tab? I tried, without success, something like (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { if([self selectedIndex] == 0 || [self selectedIndex] == 3) { if ([[self selectedViewController] isKindOfClass: [landscapeModeViewController class]]) return YES; } return NO; } Also, I tried using the delegate method didSelectViewController, without success.   • Calling ASP.NET Web API using JQuery ajax - cross site scripting issue

    I have a Web API which I am calling using the JQuery ajax function. When I test the service directly (using the Chrome RESTEasy extension) it works fine, however when I call it using the JQuery ajax function I get an error. I'm calling it on port 81: $.ajax({ url: "http://127.0.0.1:81/api/people", data: JSON.stringify(personToCreate), type: "POST", contentType: "application/json;charset=utf-8", statusCode: { 201: function (newPerson) { callback(newPerson); } }, success: function (newPerson) { alert("New person created with an Id of " + newPerson.Id); }, error: function (jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert('Error. '+textStatus+'. '+errorThrown); } }); ...but when I trace it using FireBug Lite the response comes from port 82: {"Message":"No HTTP resource was found that matches the request URI 'http://127.0.0.1:82/api/people'.","MessageDetail":"No action was found on the controller 'People' that matches the request."} I think the error is, effectively, due to cross-site scripting being blocked, but I'm not actually cross-site scripting, if you see what I mean. Has anyone else come across this and been able to fix it? Edit: Routing config (global.asax.vb) is: RouteTable.Routes.MapHttpRoute(name:="DefaultApi", routeTemplate:="api/{controller}/{id}", defaults:=New With {Key .id = System.Web.Http.RouteParameter.Optional}) Controller: Public Function PostValue(ByVal departmentid As Integer, ByVal emailaddress As String, ByVal firstname As String, ByVal lastname As String) As Guid Dim context As New WSMModelDataContext Dim bllPeople As New PeopleBLL(context) Return bllPeople.Create(firstname, lastname, emailaddress, departmentid) End Function When I debug it, it doesn't get as far as running the controller, although when calling it through RESTEasy it routes correctly and the controller executes successfully. The only difference seemes to be that wen called through RESTEasy it is (correctly) using http://127.0.0.1:81 but for some reason when called via JQuery/ajax it seems to be using http://127.0.0.1:82.

  • Possible to download entire whois database / list of registered domains?

Looks like I can hit whois.internic.net to get information about each domain, but it also looks like there are rate limits that prevent me from doing large numbers of queries. Is there a way to periodically (say daily) grab the entire whois database? I really only care about whether a domain is registered or not, so I don't need the full whois information.

  • Invalid AuthenticityToken everywhere

    I have a rails app that I just deployed which is generating Invalid AuthenticityToken errors anywhere a form is submitted. The app uses subdomains as account names and will also eventually allow for a custom domain to be entered. I have an entry in production.rb to allow for cross-domain session handling. The problem is that you can't login / or submit any form because everything raises an Invalid AuthenticityToken error. The issue looks similar but not the same as http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1201901/rails-invalid-authenticity-token-after-deploy plus I'm not using mongrel. I've tried clearing cookies in the browser, and restarting passenger but no luck. Anyone have any ideas? The server is running nginx + passenger 2.3.11, and Rails 2.3.5. #production.rb config.action_controller.session[:domain] = '.domain.com' #environment.rb config.action_controller.session = { :session_key => '_app_session', :secret => '.... nums and chars .....' }

  • Modifying records in my migration throws an authlogic error

    I'm adding some columns to one of my database tables, and then populating those columns: def self.up add_column :contacts, :business_id, :integer add_column :contacts, :business_type, :string Contact.reset_column_information Contact.all.each do |contact| contact.update_attributes(:business_id => contact.client_id, :business_type => 'Client') end remove_column :contacts, :client_id end The line contact.update_attributes is causing the following Authlogic error: You must activate the Authlogic::Session::Base.controller with a controller object before creating objects I have no idea what is going on here - I'm not using a controller method to modify each row in the table. Nor am I creating new objects. The error doesn't occur if the contacts table is empty. I've had a google and it seems like this error can occur when you run your controller tests, and is fixed by adding before_filter :activate_authlogic to them, but this doesn't seem relevant in my case. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

    I have a dilemma. I've used DI (read: factory) to provide core components for a homebrew ORM. The container provides database connections, DAO's,Mappers and their resultant Domain Objects on request. So, to instantiate a new User object: $Container = new DI_Container; $ORM = new ORM($Container); $User = $ORM->load('user',1); //at this point the container instantiates a mapper class //and passes a database connection to it via the constructor //the mapper then takes the second argument and loads the user with that id $User->setName('Rumpelstiltskin');//at this point, User must mark itself as "modified" My question is this. At the point when a user sets values on a Domain Object class, I need to mark the class as "dirty" in the Monitor class. I have one of three options as I can see it 1: Pass an instance of the Monitor class to the Domain Object. I noticed this gets marked as recursive in FirePHP - i.e. $this-Monitor-markModified($this) 2: Instantiate the Monitor directly in the Domain Object - does this break DI? 3: Make the Monitor methods static, and call them from inside the Domain Object - this breaks DI too doesn't it? What would be your recommended course of action (other than use an existing ORM, I'm doing this for fun...)

  • KVM Virtual guest Paused on Reboot

    I'm running REHL 6 and just installed a Ubuntu Server Guest via KVM set to start at boot. This works correctly and the guest loads, but it loads "paused" and requires that I manually un-pause it. Can someone give me a hint as to how I can I get the Guest OS to actually become active on boot?   • What to Return? Error String, Bool with Error String Out, or Void with Exception

    I spend most of my time in C# and am trying to figure out which is the best practice for handling an exception and cleanly return an error message from a called method back to the calling method. For example, here is some ActiveDirectory authentication code. Please imagine this Method as part of a Class (and not just a standalone function.) bool IsUserAuthenticated(string domain, string user, string pass, out errStr) { bool authentic = false; try { // Instantiate Directory Entry object DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + domain, user, pass); // Force connection over network to authenticate object nativeObject = entry.NativeObject; // No exception thrown? We must be good, then. authentic = true; } catch (Exception e) { errStr = e.Message().ToString(); } return authentic; } The advantages of doing it this way are a clear YES or NO that you can embed right in your If-Then-Else statement. The downside is that it also requires the person using the method to supply a string to get the Error back (if any.) I guess I could overload this method with the same parameters minus the "out errStr", but ignoring the error seems like a bad idea since there can be many reasons for such a failure... Alternatively, I could write a method that returns an Error String (instead of using "out errStr") in which a returned empty string means that the user authenticated fine. string AuthenticateUser(string domain, string user, string pass) { string errStr = ""; try { // Instantiate Directory Entry object DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + domain, user, pass); // Force connection over network to authenticate object nativeObject = entry.NativeObject; } catch (Exception e) { errStr = e.Message().ToString(); } return errStr; } But this seems like a "weak" way of doing things. Yet at the same time, the only real advantage of wrapping those 2 lines over just typing those 2 lines everywhere I need to authenticate is that I don't need to include the "LDAP://" string. The downside with this way of doing it is that the user has to put this method in a try-catch block. Thoughts? Is there another way of doing this that I'm not thinking of?

    Hey Everyone, This maybe a very mundane question, but this is the first jQuery plugin that I write and I'm a bit fuzzy on understanding the scope rules in Javascript. I'm trying to write an simple jQuery plugin that wraps around the Stack Overflow API. I'm starting off by trying to work with the Flair API. I wanted to make the plugin as configurable as possible so that you can easily pass it the domain and user id, and generate multiple Flairs. var superUser = $.jStackOverflow.flair({domain:"superuser.com", id: 30162, parentId:'#su-flair'}); var stackOverflow = $.jStackOverflow.flair({domain:"stackoverflow.com", id: 55954, parentId:'#so-flair'}); The problem is, when it makes the second call, its somehow using the correct domain and id parameters, but the parentId field that it's using in the callback function to create the html, is using the first parameter. I think I could use a delegate/event solution, but I'm not sure how to apply it here. Let's say I've got a few labels or something on Form1 that I want to be able to update with class1 and class2's progress, what's the best way to do that?
