• How to resolve `bootpd` crashing constantly on Mac OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard Server?

  I've got a Mac Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard Server and it's recently started getting numerous 'kNetworkError's in Server Admin.app when viewing services. It's acting as a gateway w/NAT and has been so for quite some time. • Shouldn't emesene themes change the emesene indicator icon?

  As it stands right now, I can't get the emesene icon in the indicator applet (or notification area, or whatever it's named) to change. No matter what icon theme I choose, even installing new themes, the icon is always the default one. Is that a standard behavior, or am I getting a bug? I'm running the latest version of emesene from their ppa (1.6-dev), on Lucid Lynx.

  I've seen offerings such as VPSs (Linode, Rackspace Cloud), which are very cheap but you're on your own, and managed hosting (Engine Yard, Rackspace), which are very expensive but they do all the system administration for you, in some cases even writing your deploy scripts. Is there any kind of middle-ground option where I don't have to pay the huge flat rate for the management, but can still request specific sysadmin tasks to be carried out and pay on an hourly basis?

• Why is NTFS case sensitive?

  I personally thought that NTFS was case insensitive, since you can type cmd, CMD, cMd or even CmD and still get the command prompt. However, why is it that during a CHKDSK x: /f /r, sometimes it fixes capitalization in some files? If it didn't care about the case, it shouldn't matter about that, and CHKDSK shouldn't be checking if it's actually CMD or cmd. Am I right? Where does it actually matter in the file system?

• how do i computationally slice an audio file into small samples?

  i need to cut audio files into small samples of even length. What i need is basically a batch processor for audio which does it, and names the slices numerically. i'm on os x and found Audio Splitter, the shortest possible sample length with it is 1 second though, too long for my purpose. Anyone know an alternative?

  I am using an open source application (conkeror) which is configured via a file containing javascript. Any issues with the javascript is printed to the console. This is fine under Linux as all the information is shown as long as the it is started from a shell. However, under Windows none of the information is show even when started from a shell. Is there a way to make this information displayed in the shell or to capture it in say a file?

• What's the difference between Defaults and Properties when changing cmd.exe or PowerShell's settings?

  I want to change the font used by both cmd.exe and PowerShell. When I right click in the window border, I see both Defaults and Properties: What's the difference? One would think Defaults was for all sessions, and Properties was for the current session. However, changes to Properties are persisted even after relaunching cmd.exe. Another problem is that changing the font in either Defaults or Properties doesn't actually change the font. This is on Windows 8.

I have a centos 5.2 server and running df -h i get this: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 672G -551M 638G 0% / /dev/hda1 99M 12M 82M 13% /boot tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /dev/shm that space wasn't even near 10% usage the last time it showed a correct value, i'm at a loss with whats going on. • Windows 7 Task Scheduler Hidden setting doesn't work

  I've got a daemon process that I run on my machine every hour, and even though I've checked the Hidden box, it doesn't work. Every hour, the task runs, but it shows the black command window, in which my .NET Console app is running. This stays visible until the task completes, and then disappears. This is very annoying, because it pops up and interrupts whatever I'm doing: I really do want it hidden, so how can I fix this?

• Upstart script not working on Ubuntu

  I'm trying to write an upstart script to start orbited on startup. The script is as follows: #orbited start on startup stop on shutdown script exec /usr/local/bin/orbited --config=/etc/orbited.cfg end script When I run upstart orbited I get something like this: orbited start/running, process 605 But when I run status orbited right after doing that I get: orbited stop/waiting The script fails to start even though it says it's running. • Exim4 won't send message

  My exim4 don't send any message. The logs says 2011-03-09 15:59:57 1PxKrl-00038i-BT malware acl condition: clamd: ClamAV returned /var/spool/exim4/scan/1PxKrl-00038i-BT: lstat() failed: Permission denied. ERROR I supose that clamav (running clamd) does'nt have access rights on the mentioned file, but clamav is in the same group as Debian-exim (running exim4). Even changing the folder permissions to a+rwx has no effect. Any idea where to look for failure reason ?

• Duplicate free/busy or full calendar information between two exchange servers

• Is there a way to suppress keyboard sounds picked up by a desktop microphone in Windows 7?

  The problem I'd like to solve is that my desktop microphone picks up all my keystrokes very loudly compared with my voice. Even just lightly tapping a key without depressing it causes a loud click to be picked up. I'd like a way to filter out this type of sound, while picking up voice normally. Is there any software input equalizer/filter that could do this? Or alternatively, some sort of hardware hack?

  I just accepted that ethernet cables CAT 5 and more must be ended with specific arrangement. I learned when I ending my cables to take attention that either end must be in same arrangement(568A or 568B ). Sometime I get stacked with my fellow servant that they claim that Cable should work if just arrangement at both side are same even if it is not in 568A or 568B layouts.   When resolving FQDNs or machine names to IP addresses on my local network (mycompany.internal) I can use dig on the command line (linux/mac) or nslookup (windows) to query the configured server and get a response. But trying to enter the FQDN or even just the machine name in a ping command or in a web browser results in 'Unknown Host' or DNS errors. The DNS server is a SBS 2003 box which handles AD, some file/print, etc for a small company network. This issue happens to me about three times a week, and when I'm connected to the local network directly, the same switch as the server even. I can make any connection I want with IP addresses, I just can't make DNS work. Additionally, at the same time I'm experiencing this, other users are fine, which makes me think it's a problem on my Mac. But what sort of problem? How can dig send a query and get a reply, and ping say 'unknown host'? I'm posting here vs. serverfault because I think this is a local problem not a server problem...but if anyone can point me at the server, I guess we'll head down the street a domain or two.
