  • Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created

    - by blade3
I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition x64 on a Windows Server 2008 VM. I run the installer for a standalone installation and this works fine for the setup support rules bit. That passes ok but then I get this error: TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure. SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created.. BUTTONS: OK How can I resolve this? I am getting 2008 R2 CTP but this is just a CTP. My download is from DreamSpark. Thanks

  • How do I count the number of bytes read by TextReader.ReadLine()?

    - by Steve Guidi
I am parsing a very large file of records (one per line, each of varying length), and I'd like to keep track of the number of bytes I've read in the file so that I may recover in the event of a failure. I wrote the following: string record = myTextReader.ReadLine(); bytesRead += record.Length; ParseRecord(record); However this doesn't work since ReadLine() strips any CR/LF characters in the line. Furthermore, a line may be terminated by either CR, LF, or CRLF characters, which means I can't just add 1 to bytesRead. Is there an easy way to get the actual line length, or do I write my own ReadLine() method in terms of the granular Read() operations?

  • How do I get started in embedded programing?

    - by mmattax
I would like to get started in embedded systems programming but don't know where to start...I have a very solid knowledge of C and C++ and would preferably like to use these languages with the GNU compilers. I have a degree in CS so I have a solid foundation... I have no clue about what hardware and other resources that I will need...If you work or are knowledgeable in this area, how did you get started and what are some good resource for a beginner? Thanks.

  • What is the best way to mock a 3rd party object in ruby?

    - by spinlock
    I'm writing a test app using the twitter gem and I'd like to write an integration test but I can't figure out how to mock the objects in the Twitter namespace. Here's the function that I want to test: def build_twitter(omniauth) Twitter.configure do |config| config.consumer_key = TWITTER_KEY config.consumer_secret = TWITTER_SECRET config.oauth_token = omniauth['credentials']['token'] config.oauth_token_secret = omniauth['credentials']['secret'] end client = Twitter::Client.new user = client.current_user self.name = user.name end and here's the rspec test that I'm trying to write: feature 'testing oauth' do before(:each) do @twitter = double("Twitter") @twitter.stub!(:configure).and_return true @client = double("Twitter::Client") @client.stub!(:current_user).and_return(@user) @user = double("Twitter::User") @user.stub!(:name).and_return("Tester") end scenario 'twitter' do visit root_path login_with_oauth page.should have_content("Pages#home") end end But, I'm getting this error: 1) testing oauth twitter Failure/Error: login_with_oauth Twitter::Error::Unauthorized: GET https://api.twitter.com/1/account/verify_credentials.json: 401: Invalid / expired Token # ./app/models/user.rb:40:in `build_twitter' # ./app/models/user.rb:16:in `build_authentication' # ./app/controllers/authentications_controller.rb:47:in `create' # ./spec/support/integration_spec_helper.rb:3:in `login_with_oauth' # ./spec/integration/twit_test.rb:16:in `block (2 levels) in <top (required)>' The mocks above are using rspec but I'm open to trying mocha too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • P-invoke call fails if too much memory is assigned beforehand

    - by RandomEngy
I've got a p-invoke call to an unmanaged DLL that was failing in my WPF app but not in a simple, starter WPF app. I tried to figure out what the problem was but eventually came to the conclusion that if I assign too much memory before making the call, the call fails. I had two separate blocks of code, both of which would succeed on their own, but that would cause failure if both were run. (They had nothing to do with what the p-invoke call is trying to do). What kind of issues in the unmanaged library would cause such an issue? I thought that the managed and unmanaged heaps were supposed to be automatically separated. The crash as far as I can tell is happening in a dynamically loaded secondary DLL from the one p-invoked into. Could that have something to do with it?

  • lock-free memory reclamation with 64bit pointers

    - by JDonner
Herlihy and Shavit's book (The Art of Multiprocessor Programming) solution to memory reclamation uses Java's AtomicStampedReference<T>;. To write one in C++ for the x86_64 I imagine requires at least a 12 byte swap operation - 8 for a 64bit pointer and 4 for the int. Is there x86 hardware support for this and if not, any pointers on how to do wait-free memory reclamation without it?

  • What did you develop using a microcontroller?

    - by DR
I've always been fascinated by microcontrollers and I'm planning to do a few hobby projects just to satisfy my inner geek :) I'm looking for ideas and motivation, so what did you develop using a microcontroller? If possible please state the microcontroller and/or development environment and an estimate on hardware costs beyond the basic equipment (if applicable). I'm interested in both successful and failed projects and any problems you encountered.

  • OpenGL texture shifted somewhat to the left when applied to a quad

    - by user308226
I'm a bit new to OpenGL and I've been having a problem with using textures. The texture seems to load fine, but when I run the program, the texture displays shifted a couple pixels to the left, with the section cut off by the shift appearing on the right side. I don't know if the problem here is in the my TGA loader or if it's the way I'm applying the texture to the quad. Here is the loader: #include "texture.h" #include <iostream> GLubyte uncompressedheader[12] = {0,0, 2,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0}; GLubyte compressedheader[12] = {0,0,10,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0}; TGA::TGA() { } //Private loading function called by LoadTGA. Loads uncompressed TGA files //Returns: TRUE on success, FALSE on failure bool TGA::LoadCompressedTGA(char *filename, ifstream &texturestream) { return false; } bool TGA::LoadUncompressedTGA(char *filename, ifstream &texturestream) { cout << "G position status:" << texturestream.tellg() << endl; texturestream.read((char*)header, sizeof(header)); //read 6 bytes into the file to get the tga header width = (GLuint)header[1] * 256 + (GLuint)header[0]; //read and calculate width and save height = (GLuint)header[3] * 256 + (GLuint)header[2]; //read and calculate height and save bpp = (GLuint)header[4]; //read bpp and save cout << bpp << endl; if((width <= 0) || (height <= 0) || ((bpp != 24) && (bpp !=32))) //check to make sure the height, width, and bpp are valid { return false; } if(bpp == 24) { type = GL_RGB; } else { type = GL_RGBA; } imagesize = ((bpp/8) * width * height); //determine size in bytes of the image cout << imagesize << endl; imagedata = new GLubyte[imagesize]; //allocate memory for our imagedata variable texturestream.read((char*)imagedata, imagesize); //read according the the size of the image and save into imagedata for(GLuint cswap = 0; cswap < (GLuint)imagesize; cswap += (bpp/8)) //loop through and reverse the tga's BGR format to RGB { imagedata[cswap] ^= imagedata[cswap+2] ^= //1st Byte XOR 3rd Byte XOR 1st Byte XOR 3rd Byte imagedata[cswap] ^= imagedata[cswap+2]; } texturestream.close(); //close ifstream because we're done with it cout << "image loaded" << endl; glGenTextures(1, &texID); // Generate OpenGL texture IDs glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, texID); // Bind Our Texture glTexParameterf(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); // Linear Filtered glTexParameterf(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, type, width, height, 0, type, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, imagedata); delete imagedata; return true; } //Public loading function for TGA images. • Image Preloading in Canvas

    - by smokinguns
I'm drawing an Image on the canvas using the drawImage function. This is how Im setting the src property of the image: var img = new Image(); // Create new Image object img.src = 'test.php?filename=myfile.jpg' and then oCanvas.width = 600; oCanvas.height = 400; oContext.drawImage(img, 0, 0, 600, 400); The problem is that if the src isn't set then I get the foll error:"uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE) [nsIDOMCanvasRenderingContext2D.drawImage]" . I know I get this error coz the image hasnt finished loading. I added an alert just before the call to drawImage function to let the image finish loading and it seems to work. But it's a pain in the neck. How do I check if the image has finished loading? BTW I have to set the src property by calling a php file.

  • Cannot start jboss remotely in ruby (Net::SSH)

    - by Jared
I am trying to start/stop jboss remotely with ruby Net::SSH library. I am able to stop jboss with the following code: require 'net/ssh' Net::SSH.start('xx.xx.xx.xx', 'jboss', :password => "jboss") do |session| session.open_channel do |channel| channel.request_pty(:term => 'xterm') do |ch, success| raise "could not request pty!" unless success channel.exec "/etc/init.d/jboss_new stop\n" end puts "shell opened" channel.on_data do |channel, data| puts data sleep 1 if data =~ /Password: / sleep 2 channel.send_data("jboss\n") end end end end But when I substitute stop with start I get nothing in return, jboss is not started. I changed password to invalid and get a response su: Authentication failure Is there any gimmick here? Can you please advise what is wrong?

  • Should I always release self for failed init methods?

    - by leo
    Should I always release self when there is a failure inside init, or should I only do so if I have initialized instance variables first? To put it another way, is this pattern valid? Is there a time when I shouldn't release self inside an init method, or should I assume that if the control flow enters init, self has at least a retain count of 1? - (id)init { if ((self = [super init]) == nil) { [self release]; return nil; } //do some init stuff if (somethingFailed) { [self release]; return nil; } return self; }

  • vb.net : is it possible to connect to sql server 2008 via odbc but not through vb.net code?

    - by phill
I'm supporting an old vb.net program whose database it connected to was moved from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008. Is there a setting on SQL Server 2008 which will allow ODBC connections to access the database but not allow VB.NET to connect to it programmatically? the error i keep receiving in the app is: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server) however I can connect to it when I create a system dsn to the sql server instance and through VS2005's Tools Connect to Database. Here is the code I'm using to connect: dim strC as string strC = "data source=bob; database=subscribers; user id=bobuser; password=passme" dim connection as New SqlClient.SqlConnection(strC) try connection.open() catch ex as Exception msgbox(ex.message) end try connection.Close()

  • Multiple arrangements/asserts per unit test?

    - by lance
A group of us (.NET developers) are talking unit testing. Not any one framework (we've hit on MSpec, NUint, MSTest, RhinoMocks, TypeMock, etc) -- we're just talking generally. We see lots of syntax that forces a distinct unit test per scenario, but we don't see an avenue to re-using one unit test with various inputs or scenarios. Also, we don't see an avenue to multiple asserts in a given test without an early assert's failure threatening the testing of later asserts (in the same test). Is there anything like that happening in .NET unit testing (state- or behavior-based) today?

  • Batch file crashes when double clicked, but passes from command prompt

  • detecting returned errors with $.post

    - by sova
I'm using $.post to send a query to a JSP which returns some awesome data for me. If the query is malformed, however, the page returns with "error on page" and an HTTP Status of 500 Internal Server Error in jQuery, how can I detect this error so I can tell the user of the failure? runQuery : function () { $.post( admin_stats.runQueryURL, { buster : Math.random, statsQuery: admin_stats.getQuery(), jsp: 'admin_statsQuery' }, admin_stats.handleStatsQuery, "html" ); the returned data is an HTML table which is sufficient for this project at the moment. Also: totally open to criticism if this is ugly or not the way I should be doing things =)

  • How to communicate with a USB device under Windows and Java?

    - by Gili
I'd like to communicate with a USB device under Windows and Java but I can't find a good library to do so. I don't want the user to have to install any extra hardware or device drivers to make this work. That is, I want to be able to interact with USB just like other Windows applications do. I am familiar with jUSB and JSR 80 but both seem to be dead projects (at least for Windows).

  • Problem with loading compiled c code in R x64 using dyn.load

    - by Sacha Epskamp
    I recently went from a 32bit laptop to a 64bit desktop (both win7). I just found out that I get an error now when loading dll's using dyn.load. I guess this is a simple mistake and I am overlooking something. For example, I write this simple c function (foo.c): void foo( int *x) {*x = *x + 1;} Then compile it in command prompt: R CMD SHLIB foo.c Then in 32bit R I can use it in R: > setwd("R") > dyn.load("foo.dll") > .C("foo",as.integer(1)) [[1]] [1] 2 but in 64bit R I get: > dyn.load("foo.dll") Error in inDL(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now), ...) : unable to load shared object 'C:/Users/Sacha/Documents/R/foo.dll': LoadLibrary failure: %1 is not a valid Win32 application. nd.

  • Focus problem with multiple EditText's.

    - by Ashish
I have an activity with two edittext controls. I am calling the requestFocus on the second edittext field since by default the focus goes to the first edittext control. The focus appears to be in the second edittext field (the second one gets the highlighted border), but if we try to enter any characters using the hardware keyboard the text appears in the first edittext control. Any ideas why it would be happening?
