  • Linked lists in Java - Help with writing methods

    - by user368241
Representation of a string in linked lists In every intersection in the list there will be 3 fields : The letter itself. The number of times it appears consecutively. A pointer to the next intersection in the list. The following class CharNode represents a intersection in the list : public class CharNode { private char _data; private int _value; private charNode _next; public CharNode (char c, int val, charNode n) { _data = c; _value = val; _next = n; } public charNode getNext() { return _next; } public void setNext (charNode node) { _next = node; } public int getValue() { return _value; } public void setValue (int v) { value = v; } public char getData() { return _data; } public void setData (char c) { _data = c; } } The class StringList represents the whole list : public class StringList { private charNode _head; public StringList() { _head = null; } public StringList (CharNode node) { _head = node; } } Add methods to the class StringList according to the details : (I will add methods gradually according to my specific questions) (Pay attention, these are methods from the class String and we want to fulfill them by the representation of a string by a list as explained above) Pay attention to all the possible error cases. Write what is the time complexity and space complexity of every method that you wrote. Make sure the methods you wrote are effective. It is NOT allowed to use ready classes of Java. It is NOT allowed to move to string and use string operations. 1) public int indexOf (int ch) - returns the index in the string it is operated on of the first appeareance of the char "ch". If the char "ch" doesn't appear in the string, returns -1. If the value of fromIndex isn't in the range, returns -1. Here is my try : public int indexOf (int ch) { int count = 0; charNode pos = _head; if (pos == null ) { return -1; } for (pos = _head; pos!=null && pos.getData()!=ch; pos = pos.getNext()) { count = count + pos.getValue(); } if (pos==null) return -1; return count; } Time complexity = O(N) Space complexity = O(1) EDIT : I have a problem. I tested it in BlueJ and if the char ch doesn't appear it returns -1 but if it does, it always returns 0 and I don't understand why... I am confused. How can the compiler know that the value is the number of times the letter appears consecutively? Can I assume this because its given on the question or what? If it's true and I can assume this, then my code should be correct right? Ok I just spoke with my instructor and she said it isn't required to write it in the exercise but in order for me to test that it indeed works, I need to open a new class and write a code for making a list so that the the value of every node is the number of times the letter appears consecutively. Can someone please assist me? So I will copy+paste to BlueJ and this way I will be able to test all the methods. Meanwhile I am moving on to the next methods. 2) public int indexOf (int ch, int fromIndex) - returns the index in the string it is operated on of the first appeareance of the char "ch", as the search begins in the index "fromIndex". If the char "ch" doesn't appear in the string, returns -1. If the value of fromIndex doesn't appear in the range, returns -1. Here is my try: public int indexOf (int ch, int fromIndex) { int count = 0, len=0, i; charNode pos = _head; CharNode cur = _head; for (pos = _head; pos!=null; pos = pos.getNext()) { len = len+1; } if (fromIndex<0 || fromIndex>=len) return -1; for (i=0; i<fromIndex; i++) { cur = cur.getNext(); } if (cur == null ) { return -1; } for (cur = _head; cur!=null && cur.getData()!=ch; cur = cur.getNext()) { count = count + cur.getValue(); } if (cur==null) return -1; return count; } Time complexity = O(N) ? Space complexity = O(1) 3) public StringList concat (String str) - returns a string that consists of the string that it is operated on and in its end the string "str" is concatenated. Here is my try : public StringList concat (String str) { String str = ""; charNode pos = _head; if (str == null) return -1; for (pos = _head; pos!=null; pos = pos.getNext()) { str = str + pos.getData(); } str = str + "str"; return str; } Time complexity = O(N) Space complexity = O(1)

  • How do I best catch up with the latest developments in java?

    - by Fredriku73
I am applying for a job as java developer. I programmed some hobby apps in java until 2001, after that I have mostly worked in c++ and other languages. Meanwhile, it feels like java has grown a lot, and there are all kinds of acronyms (EJB, spring, etc) unknown to me. Where can I find a concise, clear explanation of the recent (5 years) development of java? What are key elements to understand?

  • Parsing csv line to Java objects

    - by Noobling
    I was wondering if someone here could help me, I can't find a solution for my problem and I have tried everything. What I am trying to do is read and parse lines in a csv file into java objects and I have succeeded in doing that but after it reads all the lines it should insert the lines into the database but it only inserts the 1st line the entire time and I don't no why. When I do a print it shows that it is reading all the lines and placing them in the objects but as soon as I do the insert it wants to insert only the 1st line. Please see my code below: public boolean lineReader(File file){ BufferedReader br = null; String line= ""; String splitBy = ","; storeList = new ArrayList<StoreFile>(); try { br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(file)); while((line = br.readLine())!=null){ line = line.replace('|', ','); //split on pipe ( | ) String[] array = line.split(splitBy, 14); //Add values from csv to store object //Add values from csv to storeF objects StoreFile StoreF = new StoreFile();     hi, in my servlet i called an instance of a class.java( a class that construct an html table) in order to create this table in my jsp. the servlet is like the following: String report=request.getParameter("selrep"); String datev=request.getParameter("datepicker"); String op=request.getParameter("operator"); String batch =request.getParameter("selbatch"); System.out.println("report kind was:"+report); System.out.println("date was:"+datev); System.out.println("operator:"+op); System.out.println("batch:"+batch); if(report.equalsIgnoreCase("Report Denied")) { DeniedReportDisplay rd = new DeniedReportDisplay(); rd.ConstruireReport(); } else if(report.equalsIgnoreCase("Report Locked")) { LockedReportDisplay rl = new LockedReportDisplay(); rl.ConstruireReport(); } request.getRequestDispatcher("EspaceValidation.jsp").forward(request, response); in my jsp i can not display this table even empty or full. note: exemple a class that construct denied Report has this structure: /*constructeur*/ public DeniedReportDisplay() {} /*Methodes*/ @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public StringBuffer ConstruireReport() { StringBuffer retour=new StringBuffer(); int i = 0; retour.append("<table border = 1 width=900 id=sheet align=left>"); retour.append("<tr bgcolor=#0099FF>" ); retour.append("<label> Denied Report</label>"); retour.append("</tr>"); retour.append("<tr>"); String[] nomCols ={"Nom","Prenom","trackingDate","activity","projectcode","WAName","taskCode","timeSpent","PercentTaskComplete","Comment"}; //String HQL_QUERY = null; for(i=0;i< nomCols.length;i++) { retour.append(("<td bgcolor=#0066CC>")+ nomCols[i] + "</td>"); } retour.append("</tr>"); retour.append("<tr>"); try { s= HibernateUtil.currentSession(); tx=s.beginTransaction(); Query query = s.createQuery("select opcemployees.Nom,opcemployees.Prenom,dailytimesheet.TrackingDate,dailytimesheet.Activity," + "dailytimesheet.ProjectCode,dailytimesheet.WAName,dailytimesheet.TaskCode," + "dailytimesheet.TimeSpent,dailytimesheet.PercentTaskComplete from Opcemployees opcemployees,Dailytimesheet dailytimesheet " + "where opcemployees.Matricule=dailytimesheet.Matricule and dailytimesheet.Etat=3 " + "group by opcemployees.Nom,opcemployees.Prenom" ); for(Iterator it=query.iterate();it.hasNext();) { if(it.hasNext()){ Object[] row = (Object[]) it.next(); retour.append("<td>" +row [0]+ "</td>");//Nom retour.append("<td>" + row [1] + "</td>");//Prenom retour.append("<td>" + row [2] + "</td>");//trackingdate retour.append("<td>" + row [3]+ "</td>");//activity retour.append("<td>" + row [4] +"</td>");//projectcode retour.append("<td>" + row [5]+ "</td>");//waname retour.append("<td>" + row [6] + "</td>");//taskcode retour.append("<td>" + row [7] + "</td>");//timespent retour.append("<td>" + row [8] + "</td>");//perecnttaskcomplete retour.append("<td><input type=text /></td>");//case de commentaire } retour.append("</tr>"); } //terminer la table. retour.append ("</table>"); tx.commit(); } catch (HibernateException e) { retour.append ("</table><H1>ERREUR:</H1>" +e.getMessage()); e.printStackTrace(); } return retour; } thanks for help.

  • Objects in Java ArrayList don't get updated.

    - by Sbm007
This is going to be a very long post, hopefully you can understand what I'm talking about and I appreciate any help. Thanks Basically, I've created a personal, non-commercial project (which I don't plan to release) that can read ZIP and RAR files. It can only read the contents in the archive, the folders inside, the files inside the folders and its properties (such as last modified date, last modified time, CRC checksum, uncompressed size, compressed size and file name). It can't extract files either, so it's really a ZIP/RAR viewer if you may. Anyway that's slightly irrelevant to my problem but I thought I'd give you some background info. Now for my problem: I can successfully list all the folders and files inside a ZIP archive, so now I want to take that raw input and link it together in some useful way. I made 2 classes: ArchiveFile (represents a file inside a ZIP) and ArchiveFolder (represents a folder inside a ZIP). They both have some useful methods such as getLastModifiedDate, getName, getPath and so on. But the difference is that ArchiveFolder can hold an ArrayList of ArchiveFile's and additional ArchiveFolder's (think of this as files and folders inside a folder). Now I want to populate my raw input into one root ArchiveFolder, which will have all the files in the root dir of the ZIP in the ArchiveFile's ArrayList and any additional folders in the root dir of the ZIP in the ArchiveFolder's ArrayList (and this process can continue on like this like a chain reaction (more files/folders in that ArchiveFolder etc etc). So I came up with the following code: while (archive.hasMore()) { String path = ""; ArchiveFolder current = root; String[] contents = archive.getName().split("/"); for (int x = 0; x < contents.length; ++x) { if (x == (contents.length - 1) && !archive.getName().endsWith("/")) { // If on last item and item is a file path += contents[x]; // Update final path ArchiveFile file = new ArchiveFile(path, contents[x], archive.getUncompressedSize(), archive.getCompressedSize(), archive.getModifiedTime(), archive.getModifiedDate(), archive.getCRC()); current.addFile(file); // Create and add the file to the current ArchiveFolder } else if (x == (contents.length - 1)) { // Else if we are on last item and it is a folder path += contents[x] + "/"; // Update final path ArchiveFolder folder = new ArchiveFolder(path, contents[x], archive.getModifiedTime(), archive.getModifiedDate()); current.addFolder(folder); // Create and add this folder to the current ArchiveFile } else { // Else if we are still traversing through the path path += contents[x] + "/"; // Update path ArchiveFolder folder = new ArchiveFolder(path, contents[x]); current.addFolder(folder); // Create and add folder (remember we do not know the modified date/time as all we know is the path, so we can deduce the name only) current = folder; // Update current ArchiveFolder to the newly created one for the next iteration of the for loop } } archive.getNext(); } Assume that root is the root ArchiveFolder (initially empty). And that archive.getName() returns the name of the current file OR folder in the following fashion: file.txt or folder1/file2.txt or folder4/folder2/ (this is a empty folder) etc. So basically the relative path from the root of the ZIP archive. Please read through the comments in the above code to familiarize yourself with it. Also assume that the addFolder method in an ArchiveFile, only adds the folder if it doesn't exist already (so there are no multiple folders) and it also updates the time and date of an existing folder if it is blank (ie it was a intermediate folder we only knew the name of, but now we know its details). The code for addFolder is (pretty self-explanitory): public void addFolder(ArchiveFolder folder) { int loc = folders.indexOf(folder); // folders is the ArrayList containing ArchiveFolder's if (loc == -1) { folders.add(folder); } else { ArchiveFolder real = folders.get(loc); if (real.time == null) { real.setTime(folder.getTime()); real.setDate(folder.getDate()); } } } So I can't see anything wrong with the code, it works and after finishing, the root ArchiveFolder contains all the files in the root of the ZIP as I want it to, and it contains all the direcories in the root folder as I want it to. So you'd think it works as expected, but no the ArchiveFolder's in the root folder don't contain the data inside those 'child' folders, it's just a blank folder with no additional files and folders (while it does really contain some more files/folders when viewed in WinZip). After debugging using Eclipse, the for loop does iterate through all the files (even those not included above), so this led me to believe that there is a problem with this line of the code: current = folder; What it does is, it updates the current folder (used as an intermediate by the loop) to the newly added folder. I thought Java passed by reference and thus all new operations and new additions in future ArchiveFile's and ArchiveFolder's are automatically updated, and parent ArchiveFolder's will be updated accordingly. But that does not appear to be the case? I know this is a long ass post and I really hope anyone can help me out with this. Thanks in advance.

  • Min-Ordered Bionomial Heap Insertion java

    - by Charodd Richardson
    Im writing a java code to make a min-ordered Binomial Heap and I have to Insert and Remove-min. I'm having a very big problem inserting into the Heap. I have been stuck on this for a couple of days now and it is due tomorrow. Whenever I go to insert, It only prints out the item I insert instead of the whole tree (which is in preorder). Such as if I insert 1 it prints (1) and then I go to insert 2 it prints out (2) instead of (1(2)) It keeps printing out only the number I insert last instead of the whole preordered tree. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this problem. Thank you so much in advance, Here is my code. public class BHeap { int key; int degree;//The degree(Number of children) BHeap parent, leftmostChild, rightmostChild, rightSibling,root,previous,next; public BHeap(){ key =0; degree=0; parent =null; leftmostChild=null; rightmostChild=null; rightSibling=null; root=null; previous=null; next=null; } public BHeap merge(BHeap x, BHeap y){ BHeap newHeap = new BHeap(); y.rightSibling=x.root; BHeap currentHeap = y; BHeap nextHeap = y.rightSibling; while(currentHeap.rightSibling !=null){ if(currentHeap.degree==nextHeap.degree){ if(currentHeap.key<nextHeap.key){ if(currentHeap.degree ==0){ currentHeap.leftmostChild=nextHeap; currentHeap.rightmostChild=nextHeap; currentHeap.rightSibling=nextHeap.rightSibling; nextHeap.rightSibling=null; nextHeap.parent=currentHeap; currentHeap.degree++; } else{ newHeap = currentHeap; newHeap.rightmostChild.rightSibling=nextHeap; newHeap.rightmostChild=nextHeap; nextHeap.parent=newHeap; newHeap.degree++; nextHeap.rightSibling=null; nextHeap=newHeap.rightSibling; } } else{ if(currentHeap.degree==0){ nextHeap.rightmostChild=currentHeap; nextHeap.rightmostChild.root = nextHeap.rightmostChild;//add nextHeap.leftmostChild=currentHeap; nextHeap.leftmostChild.root = nextHeap.leftmostChild;//add currentHeap.parent=nextHeap; currentHeap.rightSibling=null; currentHeap.root=currentHeap;//add nextHeap.degree++; } else{ newHeap=nextHeap; newHeap.rightmostChild.rightSibling=currentHeap; newHeap.rightmostChild=currentHeap; currentHeap.parent= newHeap; newHeap.degree++; currentHeap=newHeap.rightSibling; currentHeap.rightSibling=null; } } } else{ currentHeap=currentHeap.rightSibling; nextHeap=nextHeap.rightSibling; } } return y; } public void Insert(int x){ /*BHeap newHeap = new BHeap(); newHeap.key=x; if(this.root==null){ this.root=newHeap; return; } else{ this.root=merge(newHeap,this.root); }*/ BHeap newHeap= new BHeap(); newHeap.key=x; if(this.root==null){ this.root=newHeap; } else{ this.root = merge(this,newHeap); }} public void RemoveMin(){ BHeap newHeap = new BHeap(); BHeap child = new BHeap(); newHeap=this; BHeap pos = newHeap.next; while(pos !=null){ if(pos.key<newHeap.key){ newHeap=pos; } pos=pos.rightSibling; } pos=this; BHeap B1 = new BHeap(); if(newHeap.previous!=null){ newHeap.previous.rightSibling=newHeap.rightSibling; B1 =pos.leftmostChild; B1.rightSibling=pos; pos.leftmostChild=pos.rightmostChild.leftmostChild; } else{ newHeap=newHeap.rightSibling; newHeap.previous.rightSibling=newHeap.rightSibling; B1 =pos.leftmostChild; B1.rightSibling=pos; pos.leftmostChild=pos.rightmostChild.leftmostChild; } merge(newHeap,B1); } public void Display(){ System.out.print("("); System.out.print(this.root.key); if(this.leftmostChild != null){ this.leftmostChild.Display(); } System.out.print(")"); if(this.rightSibling!=null){ this.rightSibling.Display(); } } }

  • Java EE/GlassFish Adoption Story by Kerry Wilson/Vanderbilt University

    - by reza_rahman
Kerry Wilson is a Software Engineer at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He served in a consultant role to design a lightweight systems integration solution for the next generation Foundations Recovery Network using GlassFish, Java EE 6, JPA, @Scheduled EJBs, CDI, JAX-RS and JSF. He lives in Nashville, TN where he helps organize the Nashville Java User Group. Kerry shared his Java EE/GlassFish adoption story at the JavaOne 2013 Sunday GlassFish community event - check out the video below: Here is the slide deck for his talk: GlassFish Story by Kerry Wilson/Vanderbilt University Medical Center from glassfish Kerry outlined some of the details of the implementation and emphasized the fact that Java EE can be a great solution for applications that are considered small/lightweight. He mentioned the productivity gains through the modern Java EE programming model centered on annotations, POJOs and zero-configuration - comparing it with competing frameworks that aim towards similar productivity for lightweight applications. Kerry also stressed the quality of the excellent NetBeans integration with GlassFish and the need for community self-support in free, non-commercial open source projects like GlassFish.

  • Error java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: getNewTla using Oracle EPM products

    - by Marc Schumacher
Running into a Java out of memory error, it is very common behaviour in the field that the Java heap size will be increased. While this might help to solve a heap space out of memory error, it might not help to fix an out of memory error for the Thread Local Area (TLA). Increasing the available heap space from 1 GB to 16 GB might not even help in this situation. The Thread Local Area (TLA) is part of the Java heap, but as the name already indicates, this memory area is local to a specific thread so there is no need to synchronize with other threads using this memory area. For optimization purposes the TLA size is configurable using the Java command line option “-XXtlasize”. Depending on the JRockit version and the available Java heap, the default values vary. Using Oracle EPM System (mainly 11.1.2.x) the following setting was tested successfully: -XXtlasize:min=8k,preferred=128k More information about the “-XXtlasize” parameter can be found in the JRockit documentation: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13150_01/jrockit_jvm/jrockit/jrdocs/refman/optionXX.html

  • CON6714 - Mixed-Language Development: Leveraging Native Code from Java

    - by Darryl Gove
Here's the abstract from my JavaOne talk: There are some situations in which it is necessary to call native code (C/C++ compiled code) from Java applications. This session describes how to do this efficiently and how to performance-tune the resulting applications. The objectives for the session are: Explain reasons for using native code in Java applications Describe pitfalls of calling native code from Java Discuss performance-tuning of Java apps that use native code I'll cover how to call native code from Java, debugging native code, and then I'll dig into performance tuning the code. The talk is not going too deep on performance tuning - focusing on the JNI specific topics; I'll do a bit more about performance tuning in my OpenWorld talk later in the day.

  • Jersey 2 in GlassFish 4 - First Java EE 7 Implementation Now Integrated (TOTD #182)

    - by arungupta
The JAX-RS 2.0 specification released their Early Draft 3 recently. One of my earlier blogs explained as the features were first introduced in the very first draft of the JAX-RS 2.0 specification. Last week was another milestone when the first Java EE 7 specification implementation was added to GlassFish 4 builds. Jakub blogged about Jersey 2 integration in GlassFish 4 builds. Most of the basic functionality is working but EJB, CDI, and Validation are still a TBD. Here is a simple Tip Of The Day (TOTD) sample to get you started with using that functionality. Create a Java EE 6-style Maven project mvn archetype:generate -DarchetypeGroupId=org.codehaus.mojo.archetypes -DarchetypeArtifactId=webapp-javaee6 -DgroupId=example -DartifactId=jersey2-helloworld -DarchetypeVersion=1.5 -DinteractiveMode=false Note, this is still a Java EE 6 archetype, at least for now. Open the project in NetBeans IDE as it makes it much easier to edit/add the files. Add the following <respositories> <repositories> <repository> <id>snapshot-repository.java.net</id> <name>Java.net Snapshot Repository for Maven</name> <url>https://maven.java.net/content/repositories/snapshots/</url> <layout>default</layout> </repository></repositories> Add the following <dependency>s <dependency> <groupId>junit</groupId> <artifactId>junit</artifactId> <version>4.10</version> <scope>test</scope></dependency><dependency> <groupId>javax.ws.rs</groupId> <artifactId>javax.ws.rs-api</artifactId> <version>2.0-m09</version> <scope>test</scope></dependency><dependency> <groupId>org.glassfish.jersey.core</groupId> <artifactId>jersey-client</artifactId> <version>2.0-m05</version> <scope>test</scope></dependency> The complete list of Maven coordinates for Jersey2 are available here. An up-to-date status of Jersey 2 can always be obtained from here. Here is a simple resource class: @Path("movies")public class MoviesResource { @GET @Path("list") public List<Movie> getMovies() { List<Movie> movies = new ArrayList<Movie>(); movies.add(new Movie("Million Dollar Baby", "Hillary Swank")); movies.add(new Movie("Toy Story", "Buzz Light Year")); movies.add(new Movie("Hunger Games", "Jennifer Lawrence")); return movies; }} This resource publishes a list of movies and is accessible at "movies/list" path with HTTP GET. The project is using the standard JAX-RS APIs. Of course, you need the trivial "Movie" and the "Application" class as well. They are available in the downloadable project anyway. Build the project mvn package And deploy to GlassFish 4.0 promoted build 43 (download, unzip, and start as "bin/asadmin start-domain") as asadmin deploy --force=true target/jersey2-helloworld.war Add a simple test case by right-clicking on the MoviesResource class, select "Tools", "Create Tests", and take defaults. Replace the function "testGetMovies" to @Testpublic void testGetMovies() { System.out.println("getMovies"); Client client = ClientFactory.newClient(); List<Movie> movieList = client.target("http://localhost:8080/jersey2-helloworld/webresources/movies/list") .request() .get(new GenericType<List<Movie>>() {}); assertEquals(3, movieList.size());} This test uses the newly defined JAX-RS 2 client APIs to access the RESTful resource. Run the test by giving the command "mvn test" and see the output as ------------------------------------------------------- T E S T S-------------------------------------------------------Running example.MoviesResourceTestgetMoviesTests run: 1, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0, Time elapsed: 0.561 secResults :Tests run: 1, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0 GlassFish 4 contains Jersey 2 as the JAX-RS implementation. If you want to use Jersey 1.1 functionality, then Martin's blog provide more details on that. All JAX-RS 1.x functionality will be supported using standard APIs anyway. This workaround is only required if Jersey 1.x functionality needs to be accessed. The complete source code explained in this project can be downloaded from here. • How can I use Zend Studio for Java development?

    - by Itay Moav
I have the Zend Studio, which is a PHP editor based on Eclipse. I want to use it now to develop some Java. I think Zend has disabled all the Java centric project/views/perspectives that come with Eclipse (or may be not included the right plugins?) What steps should I take to use it, instead of having two Eclipse instances open at the same time.

  • Java update alert: issue with EAS 11.1.2.3

    - by inowodwo
(in via Nancy) Customers using EPM 11.1.2.3 and a web browser to launch the Essbase Administration Services Console will lose the ability to launch EAS Console via the Web URL if they apply Java 1.7 build 45. Development is currently investigating this issue. Workaround: If Java 1.7 Update 45 has been installed, it will need to be uninstalled and a previous version will need to be installed. Older versions of Java are available in the Java Archive Note: Though it may work, Java 1.7 is not supported in previous versions of EAS. Customers running a version of EAS Console prior to 11.1.2.3 need to install the supported version of JRE. Follow this in the Community

  • How do I revoke access to java applet on OSX when there's an error in the control panel.

    - by Marc Hughes
I can't access the screenr.com java applet on my mac. Poking around the java preferences, I saw an odd entry with a red circle (I assume that means to deny access?) for it in the security section. When I highlight that entry and hit the remove button, I get an error, as seen in this screenshot: https://img.skitch.com/20110114-ktq714darqdckub92s3cqucr9s.jpg Is there somewhere I can go on the filesystem to clear out all of these? Other solution?

  • Migrating Spring to Java EE 6 Article Series at OTN - Part 3

    - by arungupta
The spring season is characterized by migration of birds, whales, butterflies, frogs, and other animals for different reasons. If you use Spring framework and are interested in migrating to a standards-based Java EE platform, for whatever reason, then we have a solution for you. David Heffelfinger's, a renowned author and an ardent Java EE fan, has published third part of Spring to Java EE migration series at OTN. The article series takes a typical Spring application and shows how to migrate it to Java EE 6 using NetBeans. This new part builds upon part 1 and part 2 and also compares the generated WAR files and LoC in XML configuration in the two environments. There is an interesting discussion on Why Java EE 6 over Spring ? as well.

  • Java.net Reborn

    - by Tori Wieldt
Java.net, the home of  Java community projects, has been re-launched with a new look and new tools for developers.  The move from CollabNet to the Kenai infrastructure offers more flexibility for developers who want to host or contribute to community projects.  Instead of the large, fixed infrastructure per project (for example, several mailing lists per project), Kenai's ala carte features allow users to take only what they need. "We will continue to have the great mix of blogs, forums, and editorial content as well as new tools on the project side, including Mercurial, Git, and JIRA for developers," Java.net Community Manager Sonya Barry explains. The migration was huge effort. Over 1400 projects were migrated (and some 30 projects are left to go). A large part of the migration was a big cleanup of abandoned projects. With the high abandonment rate of open source projects, the was a lot to remove. The new java.net site is smaller, faster and now the percentage of good, current content is much higher.Check it out at http://home.java.net/
