  • Good code architecture for this problem?

    I am developing a space shooter game with customizable ships. You can increase the strength of any number of properties of the ship via a pair of radar charts*. Internally, i represent each ship as a subclassed SpaceObject class, which holds a ShipInfo that describes various properties of that ship. I want to develop a relatively simple API that lets me feed in a block of relative strengths (from minimum to maximum of what the radar chart allows) for all of the ship properties (some of which are simplifications of the underlying actual set of properties) and get back a ShipInfo class i can give to a PlayerShip class (that is the object that is instantiated to be a player ship). I can develop the code to do the transformations between simplified and actual properties myself, but i would like some recommendations as to what sort of architecture to provide to minimize the pain of interacting with this translator code (i.e. no methods with 5+ arguments or somesuch other nonsense). Does anyone have any ideas? *=not actually implemented yet, but that's the plan.

    In the following example, I have a link that sends a variable to a function which checks if the variable is true and, if so, submits a form on the page. This has been tested and works in IE, Safari, and Chrome, but not Firefox. Trying to figure out what's wrong in Firefox.     Hi, im using symfony with doctrine, and Im trying to generate the schema yml file from a db. I get an this error SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'group' at line 1. Failing Query: "DESCRIBE group"I have a table named group in my database, and I suspect that this is screwing it up. Its not access problems as ive checked my db previleges. Any suggestions on what I can do? I have tried the quote-identifier attribute but with no luck : ( Im also struggling to find some good doctrine documentation. i cant seem to find where a list of attributes are, say for a creating a column in the schema.yml file. I tried reaching out to symfony forums but they are not responsive! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks..

  • Problem creating calculations 'engine' in two class java calculator

    i have hit a brick wall whilst attempting to create a two class java calculator but have been unsuccessful so far in getting it working. i have the code for an interface which works and displays ok but creating a seperate class 'CalcEngine' to do the actual calculations has proven to be beyond me. I'd appreciate it if someone could kick start things for me and create a class calcEngine which works with the interface class and allows input when from single button i.e. if one is pressed on the calc then 1 displays onscreen. please note i'm not asking someone to do the whole thing for me as i want to learn and i'm confident i can do the rest including addition subtraction etc. once i get over the obstacle of getting the two classes to communicate. any and all assistance would be very much appreciated. When I try: Category.objects.filter(type_id = type_g.type_id, parent_id = offset, status = 1) I get an error that get returned more than category, which is fine, because it is supposed to return more than one. But I want to filter the results trough another field, which would be type id (from the second Model) Here it is: class Category_info(models.Model): objtree_label_id = models.AutoField(primary_key = True) node_id = models.IntegerField(unique = True) language_id = models.IntegerField() label = models.CharField(max_length = 255) type_id = models.IntegerField() The type_id can be any number from 1 - 5.     Hi all! I'm working on a small project in regards of the upcoming World Cup. I'm building a roster/leaderboard/scoredboard based on groups with national teams. The idea is to have information on all upcoming matches within the group or in the knockout phase (scores, time of the match, match stats etc.). Currently I'm stuck with the DB in that I can't come up with a query that would return paired teams in a row. I have these 3 tables: CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wc_team` ( `id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `name` VARCHAR(45) NULL , `description` VARCHAR(250) NULL , `flag` VARCHAR(45) NULL , `image` VARCHAR(45) NULL , `added` TIMESTAMP NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP , PRIMARY KEY (`id`) , CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wc_match` ( `id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `score` VARCHAR(6) NULL , `date` DATE NULL , `time` VARCHAR(45) NULL , `added` TIMESTAMP NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP , PRIMARY KEY (`id`) , CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wc_team_has_match` ( `wc_team_id` INT NOT NULL , `wc_match_id` INT NOT NULL , PRIMARY KEY (`wc_team_id`, `wc_match_id`) , I've simplified the tables so we don't go in the wrong direction. When I run it it hangs on using (Stream postStream = request.EndGetRequestStream(asynchronousResult)) If I comment out the requestState.Wait.WaitOne(); line the code executes correctly but obviously doesn't wait for the response. I'm guessing the the call to EndGetRequestStream is somehow returning me to the context of the main thread??     I'm trying to capture the clicks of certain download links and track them in Google Analytics. In my debugging linkhref is being passed fine as a string. No abnormal characters, nothing. The issue is that, watching my http requests, Google never makes a second call to the tracking gif (as it does if you call this function in an "onclick" property). Calling the tracker from my JS console also works as expected. It's only in my listener. Could it be that my listener is not deferring the default action (loading the new page) before it has a chance to contact Google's servers? I've seen other tracking scripts that do a similar thing without any deferral.

How do I put a directory that is a subdirectory of current project? Why my xml file output is nearly empty? Is it because some properties, methods, ... have no xml comment?

  • Problem with loading a PNG image in JApplet.

    Hi there, I'm trying to load a PNG image from JAR file when running JApplet. The file is, I think, loaded properly - there are no errors. However it is not displayed. img.png is placed in the same directory as MainClass.java file. Here is the code: InputStream imageURL = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("img.png" ); byte[] bytes = null; try {bytes = new byte[imageURL.available()]; System.out.println(imageURL.available()); imageURL.read(bytes);} catch(Exception e) {System.out.println("bleah");} Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(bytes); Image imageScaled = me.getScaledInstance( 100, 150, Image.SCALE_SMOOTH ); jLabel6 = new javax.swing.JLabel( new ImageIcon( imageScaled) ); and the HTML exerpt: <APPLET codebase="classes" code="myapplet/MainClass.class" archive ="LittleApplet.jar" width=700 height=500> The image, as I wrote, is probably read, but not displayed in JLabel.   • javascript: problem with function

    hi I have this simple function: <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ jQuery(function($){ function here(b){alert(b);} ; here(6); }); //]]> </script> and i have this button on page: <button onclick="here(7);">TEST</button> The alert fires on page load, but not on button click. If i replace the here(7) with alert, it works fine. Why doesnt it work with function though? Alan
