  • Installing MySQL-Ruby on Linux and Ruby 1.9.2

    I am having an absurdly difficult time getting MySQL-Ruby to install on RedHat 4 using Ruby 1.9.2. I am behind a company proxy that prevents pretty much any package tool from connecting to external repositories so "gem install mysql" isn't going to cut it. I have tried installing the mysql-ruby gem locally but it fails with a mysterious: $gem install mysql-2.8.1.gem Building native extensions. This could take a while...     Let's say i have 3 smtp appenders in same log4net file whose names are: <appender name = "emailDevelopment".. /> <appender name = "emailBeta".. /> <appender name = "emailProduction".. /> Let's say i have 3 different servers(Dev, Beta, Production). Depending upon the server, i want to fire the log. In case of Development server, it would fire log from "emailDevelopment". I have a system variable in each server named "ApplicationEnvironment" whose value is Development, Beta, Production based on the server names.   • Flash AS3 Chrome Mailto link issues

    Hi I have a problem with flash in Chrome. I have a couple of mailto: links in my flash web page, when clicking on them in chrome they either don't do anything at all, opens up a blank page/tab and no email client or opens an email client once (have to refresh the page in order to click it again). Does anyone know the best way in which to do a chrome supported mailto? Seems to work in all other browsers. I have changed the target to _blank, _parent, _self etc. Plus I have one link actually on the stage and another running through AS. Hope that makes sense, cheers.

    I've been wondering this for some time. As the title say, which is faster, the actual function or simply raising to the half power? UPDATE This is not a matter of premature optimization. This is simply a question of how the underlying code actually works. What is the theory of how Python code works? I sent Guido van Rossum an email cause I really wanted to know the differences in these methods. My email: There are at least 3 ways to do a square root in Python: math.sqrt, the '**' operator and pow(x,.5). I'm just curious as to the differences in the implementation of each of these. When it comes to efficiency which is better? His response: pow and ** are equivalent; math.sqrt doesn't work for complex numbers, and links to the C sqrt() function. As to which one is faster, I have no idea...

    I have 3 lists, each with equal elements: email addresses, salaries and IDs I'd like to sort the email addresses alphabetically and in some way sort the other 2 lists (salaries and IDs). E.g., Emails: [email protected] [email protected] Salaries: 50000 60000 IDs: 2 1 The puzzle: I'd like to sort Emails such that [email protected] is first and [email protected] is last and Salaries is 60000 then 50000 and IDs is 1 then 2. Additional detail: 1. Length of lists are the same and can be longer than two elements. 2. I will subsequently pass IDs to functions to retrieve further lists. Those lists won't need sorting as they will adopt the order of the IDs list.

    We have a program where the user needs to do a Copy-Paste some content from Microsoft Word into a HTML editor (Visual Studio 2008). That content in the HTML is then used in our confirmation emails. Some of the characters like curly quotes turn into ? on the browser & in our confirmation email. For the browser... I was able to find how to resolve this issue by using jQuery. But for the confirmation email I cannot use JavaScript.     Hi Is it possible to check if the php can get some kind of a ping/flag back from exchange mail server to say "yes, email has been sent off to the intended recipient"? According to the PHP manual, the return of mail() boolean could mean; "It is important to note that just because the mail was accepted for delivery, it does NOT mean the mail will actually reach the intended destination." Does this mean, PHP can return success but actually there could be a problem on the mail server that php wouldn't know about it? and in this case no email has been sent and the user is none the wiser?   • Common DataAnnotations in ASP.Net MVC2

    Howdy, I have what should be a simple question. I have a set of validations that use System.CompontentModel.DataAnnotations . I have some validations that are specific to certain view models, so I'm comfortable with having the validation code in the same file as my models (as in the default AccountModels.cs file that ships with MVC2). But I have some common validations that apply to several models as well (valid email address format for example). When I cut/paste that validation to the second model that needs it, of course I get a duplicate definition error because they're in the same namespace (projectName.Models). So I thought of removing the common validations to a separate class within the namespace, expecting that all of my view models would be able to access the validations from there. Unexpectedly, the validations are no longer accessible. I've verified that they are still in the same namespace, and they are all public. I wouldn't expect that I would have to have any specific reference to them (tried adding using statement for the same namespace, but that didn't resolve it, and via the add references dialog, a project can't reference itself (makes sense). So any idea why public validations that have simply been moved to another file in the same namespace aren't visible to my models?   • An event for when xVal validation fails?

    I have a registration form leveraging xVal to handle all validation on the form. It works really well, with one exception: the user doesn't get feedback because another element on the page (a tip telling the user that their username will be their email address) draws on top of the span element xVal spits out when it notices a problem. If I had a way to detect when xVal has a problem with the email field, I could just toggle the visibility of that tooltip and be on my way, but I'm not sure how to do so. I know that xVal uses jquery.validate.js under the hood; is there an event or something I could tie into to do this?

    I have always read that Magic Quotes do not stop SQL Injections at all but I am not able to understand why not! As an example, let's say we have the following query: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE email='$x'; Now, if the user input makes $x=' OR 1=1 --, the query would be: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE email='\' OR 1=1 --'; The backslash will be added by Magic Quotes with no damage done whatsoever! Is there a way that I am not seeing where the user can bypass the Magic Quote insertions here?

  • Problem getting ar_mailer/ar_sendmail working on new server

    Hey all. I've got a new app up and running on a new ubuntu server. It's working fine generally but i can't get ar_sendmail working. I'm following the instructions on this page: http://www.ameravant.com/posts/sending-tons-of-emails-in-ruby-on-rails-with-ar_mailer The setup is all done, ie i can "deliver mails" which just saves records in my Email table. Now i want to get the ar_sendmail daemon running to actually send them. (so i'm at 'Running ar_sendmail in daemon mode' in that web page). First thing: ar_sendmail --mailq >>ar_sendmail: command not found Ok...so, where is ar_sendmail? I have a look and there's an ar_sendmail file in the bin folder of the ar_mailer plugin, so i add the location of that to my path. I don't know if this was the right thing to do or not. Ok, so try again. ar_sendmail --mailq /var/www/apps/millionaire/vendor/plugins/ar_mailer/bin/ar_sendmail:3:in `require': no such file to load -- action_mailer/ar_sendmail (LoadError) from /var/www/apps/millionaire/vendor/plugins/ar_mailer/bin/ar_sendmail:3 hmm. Here's the offending file, there's not much there. #!/usr/bin/env ruby require 'action_mailer/ar_sendmail' ActionMailer::ARSendmail.run ok...so it literally is just trying to require this and can't find it. The file, action_mailer/ar_sendmail.rb is in the ar_mailer plugin, in it's lib folder. So, given that it's being called from inside the plugin, it should be able to see this right? I've got a feeling that i'm way off the track here and have missed something simple. Can anyone set me straight? I'm using rails 2.3.4 in case that's relevant. EDIT - i just realised something kind of dumb: when i call ar_sendmail from the command line like this, i'm just loading that one file, which doesn't know where it's supposed to look for the rest of the stuff, i think. Which really makes me think that i'm not trying to run the right thing. Is the ar_sendmail daemon a seperate program altogether, that i would get with apt_get or something? EDIT2 - i made some progress by installing the ar_mailer gem (which the guide said i shouldn't do) and that does seem to run. It's sending some mail request somewhere and clearing the Email table of pending emails. Running ar_sendmail in -ov (oneshot verbal) mode i see it report this for example: sent email 00000000019 from [email protected] to [email protected]: # So, it actually looks like it's working now and i just need to set up the ACTUAL THING WHICH SENDS EMAILS. sigh. still grateful for any advice. thanks, max

  • 403 forbidden while submitting a POST request with image data via iPhone application

    I am creating an iOS application which allows users to send image/text data to my webserver via a POST request. I am successfully sending POSTS to the server when image data is not included in the request. Any time i POST with image data the server spits back a 403 forbidden. I have tried adding the following to the .htaccess file in the directory of the script with no luck: Options +Indexes FollowSymLinks +ExecCGI Order allow,deny Allow from all web browsers and Android devices can successfully POST with image data to the script, the only device which cannot is the iPhone. POSTING with data to other hosting providers works as expected - it is just this host(ipowerweb.com). i noticed that when i try to POST to ANY script on the server with data returns a 403 forbidden. another note: i can successfully post to another server that is hosted by ipowerweb, but mine cant seem to handle it. My host has tried to resolve the issue but cannot, and they have marked it on their end as "resolved", so no more help from them. I wish to keep this host as moving would be a pain - i will change hosts as a last resort, so please help me! Why am i getting this 403 forbidden error only when i submit data via my iPhone application?   • Outlook MAPI session exception when outlook interface is closed

    I'm developing a email sender that retrieve data from a database, build up a MailItem with the Outlook Interop and send it. My email sender is running by a windows service that is notified everytime there's some data to send. I'm logging on the MAPI session of Outlook without problem and everything seems to work. But... when someone open Outlook interface and then close, my service crash at the first attempt i call a SendAndReceive method, with an exception that report that the session is assigned to another thread. I'm googling around for hours and i'm listening to the application_quit event, raised by the interface closing, trying to logoff and logon again to the application...but i'm still falling in the same error. Where am i wrong?Any suggestion? Thank you in advance

  • Unable to verify body hash for DKIM

    I'm writing a C# DKIM validator and have come across a problem that I cannot solve. Right now I am working on calculating the body hash, as described in Section 3.7 Computing the Message Hashes. I am working with emails that I have dumped using a modified version of EdgeTransportAsyncLogging sample in the Exchange 2010 Transport Agent SDK. Instead of converting the emails when saving, it just opens a file based on the MessageID and dumps the raw data to disk. (Really, the rules for Body Canonicalization are quite ... simple.) Here is the real DKIM email with a signature using the simple algorithm (with only unneeded headers cleaned up). Now, using the above code and updating the expectedBase64 hash I get the following results: Expected hash: VnGg12/s7xH3BraeN5LiiN+I2Ul/db5/jZYYgt4wEIw= Computed hash: ISNNtgnFZxmW6iuey/3Qql5u6nflKPTke4sMXWMxNUw= Are equal: False The expected hash is the value from the bh= field of the DKIM-Signature header. Now, the file used in the second test is a direct raw output from the Exchange 2010 Transport Agent. If so inclined, you can view the modified EdgeTransportLogging.txt. At this point, no matter how I modify the second email, changing the start position or number of CRLF at the end of the file I cannot get the files to match. What worries me is that I have been unable to validate any body hash so far (simple or relaxed) and that it may not be feasible to process DKIM through Exchange 2010.
